Came with a nice cooling dill sauce that was so delicious. Took a star away cuz it was super salty but luckily saved by the dill sauce and water. Fried catfish: 4 stars. one of the best batter for fried fish. The batter on top was think and crispy and light so you couldn't taste the oils. Lately the service has been great, but the food has been falling short. Over the last three visits, food has not been up to par. One dish, the rice was cold, the next the chicken was cooked to death. It was a bit frustrating because a number of the dishes that we were hoping to order were either already sold out at 6 o'clock on a Monday night, or they were not ready. For instance, the ribs would be roasting and they would be ready in an hour. we were not waiting an hour. My husband ordered meatloaf, which honestly was disappointing. The only complaint was I ordered my ribeye medium well and it was more on the well side, but I come into that issue at most restaurants. It's either a little under or over what I order so it wasn't a big deal. It was still very good. I will probably order medium next time and hopefully it will be closer to what I was expecting. The brussels sprouts were really nice. They weren't overly oily or greasy, even though they seem to be fried, which is nice. I've had Brussels other places that were super greasy/oily. I had the roasted chicken and root vegetables. It was cooked perfectly and very flavorful. The burger was delicious and the smashed potatoes were yummy and very unique with pimento cheese mixed in. They have really solid BBQ and a good homemade Hot sauce. Another great option for this spot is their cocktail menu and bar. My husband loved this place (why it's getting a four star rating). He got a Reuben and wings. I thought it was fine, but then again, I only had a drink and some of his potato chips. The chips we're very greasy and seemed a bit under done because they didn't spread out the chips when frying them this place is definitely not set up for a vegan so I ended up going next-door to a vegan place and getting myself some food. My conclusion is that it's somewhat like a porridge. Tasty, but nothing I must have. Wood Smoked Pork Ribs - Pretty good. I can taste the smoke, while the meat was quite moist and flavorful. Probably best dish of the night. Fried Chicken Gizzards - Definitely over fried and tough to chew. Seasoning on the breading was also lacking. Smoked Fish Dip - I have had some amazing fish dips in Spain and other parts of Europe. This was not that quality unfortunately. Ok, but not worth the price. Server was friendly and helpful. War Mouth is a delicious spot for some upscale BBQ in Columbia! I had a great time here for dinner with three on a Friday evening. No reservations were necessary and we were seated immediately. The appetizers were tasty and I recommend the bread plate for a nice mixture of flavors. The toast was especially good. I'd probably skip on the cheese plate next time as it was a bit sparse. Although the cheeses were all tasty. I had the barbecue plate which came with pulled pork, rice and hash, slaw, a slice of bread, pickles, and crispy pork skins. The portion was substantial and filling. The pork and rice and hash were especially good! I enjoyed eating them with bites of the thick cut bread on the side. The food here is excellent, and the service was also great. My one issue is that they have terrible high chairs that do not have a middle strap to hold your child in the seat. As a new parent I did not think about this right away and was not informed she could fall through the seat. Well, she fell through the seat and luckily she caught her self with her arms. This terrified her. I was told by the waitress they usually let people know that could happen. It's infuriating because they could just add a strap to the chairs. I brought my daughter here for her 1 year birthday because she loves to be out around people and it's exciting for her. When she fell through the chair it was terrifying for her, and her back was really red afterward. Luckily there was nothing serious. We had a foldout chair we ended up using to solve the issue. If you know something is an issue, why not fix that issue? It's crazy they would rather risk a baby falling through a high chair instead of spending a few dollars to put a strap in the center to hold the baby in place or buy new high chairs. Again, service, food, and atmosphere are amazing but take a little time to think about the actual damage your baby seats can cause to a small child. A few screws and one strap is all you need. Please just fix this shit. read more

We were a little wary about the place being where it's located, but I'm not familiar with that neighborhood. This was one of the most disappointing experiences I have had in any restaurant. We were greeted nicely by the younger male bartender, but the kindness stopped there. The middle aged woman took her time to even come to the front because she had to finish her conversation with the servers first. They were not busy at all (one two top inside and one table outside). She asked if we wanted to be sat (uh, yes) and outside or inside. I asked for inside and a booth due to back problems. She told me I couldn't sit at a booth because it was only for 2 or for 6 and unless we wanted to squeeze we had to sit at a table . So as I was sitting at the table in the empty restaurant, she threw the menu at me and then told me "if it was a problem, mama, she would move me then". After I said it was fine to stay, she then proceeded to go talk negatively about me to our future server and two other bartenders, loud enough for me to hear. After my husband told our server that it was uncomfortable and we didn't appreciate the interactions and that we just wanted to enjoy a nice lunch, he asked what we wanted him to do about her and about it at all? We got up and walked out. Needless to say we will not be back and definitely Will not recommend to anyone. Please train your staff on restaurant etiquette, common sense and just being nice. read more

Ok...totally done with The War Mouth and their "gypping" customer on ingredients. If you wanna have local support, get your act together! Ordered the smoked turkey sandwich tonight, which over the past yeR has been fabulous. Tonight...ordered my "go-to" and NO BACON JAM!!! Do you know what made that sandwich exceptional? The bacon jam. And although TOMATOE BACON JAM was written CLEARLY on the menu's description. And when I brought it to my server's attention, she attempted to rectify the situation and was told by the cook that they "no longer make this". REALLY???? Then take it OFF the friggin' menu! And charge me less, by the way, because the key to that sandwhich is certainly NOT the orange processed cheddar! The poor waitress offered tomato jam as an alternative, which was nice but c'mon. Tomato versus bacon? We all know the difference in that taste. If this type of thing was the first time it happened to me here...maybe. But this is a consistent deceiving practice by this place and it sucks for the customer and for their staff. They did the same nonsense back in 2017 when swapped out the listed cheeses on a salad for a lower quality cheese but refused to change the price and not being honest about it. The poor server said this was the first she's heard that they don't even make it anymore! What a shame for her. She was so nice too. We would never take it out on her of course..but some people would. This is beyond ridiculous! Poor communication all around from kitchen to FOH obviously because had the server mentioned this caveat up front, .like ..."hey..we no longer have bacon jam", I, the customer, would have certainly made another selection. Because again...it was the KEY ingredient to the quality of this dish. Needless to say, my dog is now enjoying my dinner from the WarMouth. Again..if you are going to list ingredients to a dish...and charge an amount for that dish...then put ALL of the ingredients in the dish...or here's a thought..update the menu so you don't appear deceptive. Again...fool me once..fine...fool me twice...DONE! Rabbit parpardelle? Have to admit..noodles were nice and cooked well but sauce was more like a soupy Alfredo sauce at best..not a vodka sauce. Came to Columbia to visit family for the holidays and wanted to order some really good food to serve for dinner with friends because who's cooking on a holiday, right? The War Mouth was super close to our Air B&B and the menu looked amazing. Plus we could order online earlier in the day and schedule the pick up for dinner time. As soon as I placed the order I got a call from the CHEF who let me know they were out of one of the sides and gave me substitution options. Top tier customer service! We picked the food up at the specified time everything was wrapped and labeled properly. And smelled divine! Apps- crawfish dip with fried saltines very tasty. Thank goodness I got two orders of cheese straws because I could eat a bucket of these by myself they are so good! Our guests had the burnt ends over grits and gave it a thumbs up. Entrees - ribs, chicken bog and ribeye were consumed with gusto! My favorite sides were the hoppin John and squash casserole. We finished up with pistachio pound cake and bourbon cream pie. The pie has quite a kick- but we are bourbon people so we loved it! Will definitely go in to dine next trip so we can experience the ambiance. read more
