Historically, mead is where we started, and Breaking Brew Meadery has brought it back in all its glory by providing more than one flavor to casually sip on. Along with the back story, this meadery provides mead classes, mead take-home kits, mead to go, and so much more. If you have never tried it before, I would highly suggest coming here for your first try. The staff is super friendly and very knowledgeable in their field, which takes their mead tasting to another level. They just extended their back area to add additional seating and make room for the events they'll be hosting, such as an open mic. After purchasing my fiance a make-it-at-home kit for mead, he was all in. Research, etc, and in that research he found out there are such things as meaderies! So we went to one, and it didn't let us down. The vibe in there is cool and chill, and the mead is even better. They had about twelve flavors on tap (there were only a few that were sold out), and we tried 8. All delicious and unique and definitely appropriately named. We sampled each others as well and were impressed the whole way through. We loved it so much we took home a four pack and drank them that evening! This would be so neat if somehow they could start doing small food bites to draw even more in that are looking to make it an entire experience! Its so close to us which is even better, as there aren't a whole lot of meaderies in Texas. We will definitely be returning! read more

A good take on breaking bad but all the takes on breaking bad are good... right? Welp I was watching a medieval film and heard the knights mentioning mead. So I decided to look up mead and to see if anyone in this modern era has mead and to my pleasant surprise, this place exist and it's the only one in town, way to corner the market. But seriously though, I came in with alot of questions and the owner/barkeep had plenty of answers. I tried literally everything on tap & left with a couple of cans to go. One of something like 5 meaderies (sp?) in Texas, I was pleasantly surprised this place was a couple miles From home. Low key, except Sunday's, when I discovered all the missing road traffic is here, Breaking Brew is a casual, friendly atmosphere with ZERO meta/metro/hipster arrogance...just good guys making good honey brews. Grab a flight the first time and give them a sample. If you find something you like, leave with a growler...these smaller batches may be out next time you're there! They also sell bottles and cans, so you'll be good there. If you like mead, definitely go. If you aren't sure, definitely give it a try. Ask questions..they are friendly and know their stuff. If you DON'T like mead, you haven't had the good stuff. Grocery store Mead is garbage and ok if heated and spiced/mulled for the holidays. Dare I say...it's the bee's knees? I know, horrible. If you have never tried meads before, this is the place to get your first and learn more about the process and how meads got their taste. They offer 4 more than enough pours for $10 for newbie's like me. The pours are actually big enough to share with another person to decide what flavors you'd like to order next. Mead is fermented from honey which creates a smooth clean taste and its gluten free! The taste to me is in between beer and cider. Not a whole lot or carbonation and not very tart like cider. It's a perfect balance. It was 30 minutes because closing when we stopped in. We mentioned that we've never had it and the owner happily entertained us and answered all the questions we had. Eh. I wasn't really impressed with this place, maybe I was expecting more as it's the only Meadery around town. I went with a flight so I could try a range of meads. I was kinda disappointed as they only do session meads rather than traditional meads, I mean aren't they just making ciders ?!? We came to this place for our friend's birthday. Right when we came in they welcomed us and it felt very homey and relaxing. They have games you can play while drinking. The mead is very good and prices are affordable . It's worth trying all the different kinds of meads they have. Our favorites were the magician and texas sweed. I think my favorite was the Magician as one I could drink a lot of. I did enjoy Dr. Bee as I am a huge Dr. Pepper fan. The traditional ones were a bit boozy for me: Mesquite was not my fav but others in the group liked it. And there was one made in bourbon barrels that was 13+% but it really grew on ya - first taste was"wow, that's boozy" but by the time you are done you think "that's pretty good". Mead's delicious. I was allowed to try some new mead that was upcoming, which was also fantastic and a lot of fun - it's a nice place to sit and have a couple drinks. The selection can change a bit seasonally. My favorites are the fruit flavors. They do drier meads than I was used to, but there's a little sweetness to the fruit ones. We love mead, and seeing a meadery open in our area, we had to go. Located in an industrial looking strip mall, it could be hard to find if you aren't watching out for the signs pointing to the meadery. When we got inside, we were greeted by a gentleman behind the bar. It wasn't busy, but we came on a Saturday afternoon. He explained every mead they had and where they got their ingredients to make them. We did 2 flights, which allowed us to try every mead they had. Our favorite of the bunch was ginger bear, but every mead had their own distinct flavor. We liked the ginger bear so much we took a can of it home with us. If you bring your own growler, they'll fill it with any of their meads. I'd recommend a growler since our can tasted a bit flat a few days later when we opened it. read more

The Meadtender was very knowledgeable and allowed me to sample the regular mead that I would take home. It has a mellow sweetness that can be enjoyed. I believe my favorite was The Bee Sting. I think I'm constantly searching for balance of sweet with heat blends. I don't like hot things. I'm not a big pepper fan...I know I know I have the palate of a toddler. Pay me no mind. This is a great combination. It made it hard for me to decide on what to get my friend. I ended up with three as well as a traditional mead. We just had a beautiful experience tasting their products. It was my husband's first ever mead and he wasn't disappointed. The owners are very friendly and the meads are delicious. Walked out of there with 96 onces of product. Please check them out. They use raw texas wildflowers honey and experiment with a bunch of flavors ranging from jalapeños to meads aged in bourbon barrels and cranberry and tarragon mix.
