Very simplistic café. Little to nothing on the walls. Not depressing but also not super refreshing. Open seating concept with not enough seating to those who were in the café. We arrived about an hour after they opened and there was not much left in the pastry cabinet, yet people were still ordering them? We were confused--maybe the issue was their lack of restocking the showcase and the locals knew that? The staff felt rushed, so we didn't ask about food and ordered two dirty chai teas and went next door to the other coffee shop (Out and About Coffee) to grab pastries. Next door also had more seating and food options.

You can tell a lot about a coffee shop by the way they make their cappuccinos, especially their oat milk cappuccinos.

This is our favorite coffee shop in downtown Sarasota. The service, coffee atmosphere. Everything is exceptional.

Just want to show off the beautiful new cups that our delicious lattes were presented in!! Always looking to improve the presentation and the ambiance of the shop! Thank you for the upgrades!

This place was so nice! Very relaxing and the people who were working were very kind and very helpful! The matcha colada was great! And so was the vanilla latte!

EXCELLENT Local coffee shop. Exactly what I wanted! Nice bright clean space with their coffee machines and expert baristas. The espresso was rich and smooth and the drip perfectly roasted. Their motto is good people great coffee and I love that! Good location near the marina in the heart of downtown Sarasota. A quick walk from almost all the hotels and there is plenty of street parking to pop in if you are via car. We will definitely be back!

If you love quality black coffee with great tasting notes, this place is for you. The cold brew is probably the best I have had in awhile! We did not sit inside, but plenty of space to do so if you need to get work done or catch up with a friend. They have some pastries available, but we did not get any, so I cannot comment on those options. Breaking Waves is located in the Bayfront area with a lot of shops & restaurants. Street parking is 2 hrs and there are parking garages in the area as well. If you like syrups, sugar, and dessert for breakfast there is a Starbucks down the road.

My husband and I are coffee drinkers and have had coffee all over the world. I would have to say, this is the Best Tasting Coffee we have had. My husband's Standard drink is the Breve Latte and mine is the Cold Brew. Gosh they were amazing, Two days in a row! Such a quaint little comfy welcoming spot. The staff are kind and pleasant too! This was my first time to visit this coffee shop in beautiful Sarasota, Florida. My wife and I are in the area visiting from Colorado. The location is great near Sarasota Harbor, and parking is rather limited. I arrived this morning right after they opened, was not greeted upon entering, the person who took my order did not greet me, was not friendly, and kinda acted like I was bothering her by being here today. The inside dining room area is decent, simply decorated, clean, and the seating is hard and uncomfortable after sitting 5 minutes. They have upbeat music playing. My coffee is okay, nothing to write home about. There is free WiFi and it works well.

Absolutely loved this coffee shop!! The ricotta toast was amazing and this was the best vanilla latte I've ever had. The staff was incredible friendly and even remembered us when we came back the next day! Definitely check out Breaking Wave Coffee if you get the chance!

The coffee here is great. I love the Flat White with Almond milk however I am giving it 4 stars instead of 5 because their website is terrible. There is no menu on their site or phone numbers. It is just one page and there's barely any information on it except for the hours. Also, I am not sure why it is not open on Sundays. I would love to have gone in for a coffee on a Sunday morning. read more

I moved to Sarasota about a year ago. As soon as I started working downtown I tried every cafe around... This is hands down the best coffee shop in the Downtown area. The coffee is the best around, but more important, the staff here is amazing! They are all Super friendly and genuinely awesome people. I would highly recommend checking this place out! I frequent Breaking Wave on a regular basis and the experience is always the best. read more

My husband and I always stop by Breaking Wave while we're in downtown. Coffee and staff are equally amazing. The atmosphere is comforting and clean. A perfect place to meet up or get some work done! It's quite funny to hear about the bad review that Somer C. wrote today. While outside seating is limited, with only two tables, my husband and I happened to witness a women sitting at the only other outside table to just use Breaking Wave's wifi and seating without purchasing anything. The staff politely asked her if they could get her something to drink, to which she responded "no". In the nicest way possible, they simply explained to her that seating is for paying clientele. The first time around telling her this didn't stick, so someone else had to say the same thing to her when she didn't leave or buy something. Which honestly, is a no brainer. 99% of establishments are like this. $2.50 green tea literally tastes and looks like water. Three stars instead of one because the barista was very nice and took it back and made me a different one. Still tasted light but did taste like something. The place is clean but not a lot of seating area. Not a lot of customers either, but it's new. Also there are mini pain au chocolat and they're $2 which is way too much for pain au chocolat let alone a mini one. Coffee looks professional though. Didn't stay to try it. Costumer service was amazing, they were out of banana bread but quickly recommended the avocado toast which was INCREDIBLE! SOLID specialty coffee shop. I loved the Ethiopian espresso in my cortado made with extra creamy chobani oat milk! Also the Guatemalan pour over was fireee. We had fun chatting with the owner too and talking about the joys and challenges of owning and operating a specialty coffee shop. The coconut macaroons were also delicious and gluten free! We will definitely be back for more coffee during our vacation this week. read more

I was super excited to try this place. I couldn't decide between and iced latte or an iced dirty chai. The barista was very friendly and helped me decide on the chai. Said dirty chai cost $5.35 but the real kicker here was that it literally tasted like W A T E R. Such a disappointment. Probably won't be back. read more

I have been to Breaking Wave a couple of times and it is very good every time. Today my wife and I had two different pour overs and they were extremely clean, balanced and flavorful and needed no cream at all. We also had a very good croissant with strawberry jam. You can't go wrong here. read more

5 stars for the customer service, the location, and the friendliness. However, the chai lattes are not that good. I ordered a chai latte with oat milk. they don't take like chai, but they also don't taste like oat milk?? It was a very weird taste. Great new spot in downtown Sarasota's lower Main Street. Breaking Wave is a quiet little space to grab a coffee before walking along the waterfront in the adjacent Bayfront park. The coffee selection looks great and the cold brew did not disappoint. Don't miss the almond croissants, however - there's a butter layer inside worthy of a review in and of itself. My arteries may be the lesser for it, but let's be honest- the world spins on salt, sugar, and butter anyway. Eat the damn croissant. read more

We got "stuck" in Sarasota during the pandemic due to vacation, and have frequented this place for take out cold brew and hot coffee. This is by far the best coffee in this area. Great service, product, and sweet location on Main St in downtown. Can't recommend it highly enough! read more

I usually leave pretty good reviews of establishments but i've never encountered an employee to be so rude to me. i didn't order anything at first because i was doing homework and it wasn't until i was about to leave when an employee told me that i should not go there establishment unless i order something. i was going to order a pastry to go after i finished. which i did order. It was basically empty and i've never been to an establishment where this was allowed or it was a problem. it was a very disrespectful thing to say and i've been a costumer before. the disrespectful attitude was not necessary. I will take my business elsewhere, where it's not a problem that i do my work first and then order something. no apology was said. read more

They charge you twice what they should for a cup of what is usually unpleasant coffee. When you go to a COFFEE shop you shouldn't be thinking "Duncan Donuts and WaWa do better coffee". Well for decafe, Kahwa is a waste of time and money. But so is very coffee shop in Sarasota that doesn't respect decaffeinated coffee drinkers and gouges with these crap pour over beverages. The staff is friendly enough and you can almost always find a seat, be it inside or out. I will still go there once in a while as my friend likes it and deserves to be happy in their coffee choice. I will just continue to drink what they have and deal with it; but it will never be my go to coffee place.
