Perq is one of a kind. A spot that feels equally as tucked away from the vibrancy of Hillview as it is easily accessible. The owners are thoughtful, hard working and know their craft and their customer well. The line is always worth the wait -- grab a spot on one of the cozy couches or sit in the sun outdoors (pup approved!) while you wait for your beverage or one of the delicious breakfast items. One of my favorite memories from visiting Perq for many years: I once grabbed a few coffees and pastries to bring to a friend. I accident left a muffin behind. The owner took the time to track me down and send a message over social media letting me know they think I left it behind and they'd hold it for me or I could have a credit towards a future visit. Unreal. If you have visited Perq before you know there was likely a line yet the owners took note of this and took the time to go above and beyond. After seeing great reviews online, I was so excited to try Perq. I was in Sarasota for the day and my usual breakfast spot is closed on Mondays. I placed on order online for food ahead of time. I was also going to place an order for coffee online, but their menu and online ordering system is confusing. When I pulled up, I realized parking was going to be an issue. Your only option is street parking in a very busy part of town. They have plenty of spots in the back, but they are reserved for employees only. All but one of the employee spots were available. After circling the block a few times, I was able to park a block away on the street. When I walked in, I mentioned I was picking up food but I also wanted to order a coffee. The man at the counter rudely told me that I had to pick up my food at the counter in the back. When I asked if they had nonfat milk, I was again met with an attitude and he said "we only have local milk and three dairy alternatives." It was very clear that I wasn't being respected because I wasn't a local. Imagine my surprise when a small/medium sized latte, with no syrup, was $9.10. Absolute highway robbery for an average latte. For food, I ordered an avocado toast with shaved egg. I had a much better experience interacting with the woman at the food window. She was incredibly kind, made an effort to talk to me and my food was ready 20 minutes early. It was good and fresh, but I now know that I'm not a fan of the texture of shaved eggs. I'm in Sarasota a few times a year and I will absolutely not be going back. read more

I waited about 10 minutes before I was able to order which gave me enough time to figure out what I wanted. We stopped in here for breakfast before heading back home to Indianapolis. We each ordered a cappuccino with almond milk and a Breakfast Sammy with cheddar. We also got a blueberry cake donut and a pistachio muffin to share because they didn't have a whole lot of pastry options. There was only one person working when we went and it was very busy, so it was a little bit of a wait. Granted it was a Friday morning, so that could be why (or just because they are great). The coffee only came in one size, which I was a little sad about since we needed the pep for driving, but that's okay because they were delicious. The breakfast sandwiches came out super hot and after they cooled down a bit we devoured them. The parmesan egg was incredible!! So savory. We split the pistachio muffin and blueberry cake donut later on during our drive. While both were great, we both wished we had each just gotten our own blueberry cake donut. Such a gem of a spot! The owners are a husband-and-wife team he crafts the coffee, and she makes everything homemade in the kitchen. They're originally from Australia and rotate their coffee roasters weekly, featuring espresso blends from all over the U.S. I had what might be the best coffee I've ever tasted: a single-origin Ethiopian blend from Portland, Oregon. Fantastic drink, service, and ambiance. This coffee shop does it all very well. I didn't try any of the food, but it looked delicious. The mocha I had was wonderful. Outside, it was a perfect day to hangout and the area to sit outside is welcoming and pleasant. The negative would be that there was a long line because there was only one barista taking orders and drinks, not sure if that's normal or not. The drink was also pretty expensive. I will be a little bold here and say this is the best coffee shop in Sarasota. In terms of food, coffee, and ambience, it wins all hands down. What really makes this coffee shop special to me is the variety of food and how fresh and delicious it is. Some of my favorites are the bagel sandwich, parfait, and biscuit sandwich. Their bacon is next level and the egg they use on their sandwiches is really well seasoned which just makes everything extra tasty. Coffee is a little pricey but worth every penny. Tried their most popular breakfast sandwich and I would say it's worth the hype. I'm usually not a fan of baked eggs but everything on the sandwich worked perfectly together. I've frequented a few time and have either gotten a latte or their cold brew and it's great, quality coffee. My only gripe is that they're a bit pricey. I got the same drink my first two visits but the price was different, a bit confusing. Service is TERRIBLE. Nice spot. But the owner, though a nice man, seems to be a terrible owner. Too cheap to hire just one more person who can make all the drinks while he rings in the orders, or vice versa. But you've got one guy standing at the register taking orders answering questions and making all the drinks while the lines are always out the door. It's ridiculous. This is such an easy problem to solve which makes it all the more annoying. People have shit to do. Especially in the morning. I make a daily coffee run to Perq. If not daily, at the very least a couple times a week. Their coffee and matcha has never disappointed me. Their espresso is far superior to anyone else's in town. My favorite drink has been memorized and is perfectly made right on the spot every time. The service is amazing and so is their food! I was reading the reviews since I am an avid yelper haha, and I was surprised by the amount of people who said it was unfriendly service. I was greeted right away, was given an explanation as to why all the coffee was called something different, and even got an honest recommendation when I did not know what I was in the mood for. This guy knows his coffee! However, I will say I spent $13 on this coffee you see in this picture. I did get a quad shot and used oat milk with a combination of maple, but even so, at any coffee place I've ever gone to and got a custom drink like that, it has never been that much. This is a really great, local coffee shop. The coffee is truly delicious, they definitely take pride in their craft. However, the drink prices are HIGH. The food prices are pretty fair. I ordered a 'caramel iced coffee'- the barista let me know they don't have caramel but they make a similar sauce in house. Now, their sauce was even better than a caramel so I'll give them that but I was shocked when he said my total for 1 coffee was $7.49 My receipt said I ordered an iced latte with a $1 charge for the flavoring, so maybe they treat the latte like their iced coffee. Just be aware. (I didn't order a specialty dairy substitution but imagine that would be extra too) The atmosphere, the staff and the drinks are all lovely. It's a great shop. It's a casual spot designed with light wood, green tones, and natural sunlight for a warm feeling. Drip coffee can be seen if you look up towards the ceiling which was a neat touch. There's plenty of indoor and outdoor seating to choose from. Now the coffee and food are insta-worthy. I ordered a scratch-made chocolate chip scone. It was decorated with a generous portion of chocolate chips. The inside was soft and outside has the typical scone like crust. Absolutely delicious! I ordered a mocha with decaf and was pleasantly surprised when I got it. Now I've ordered many mochas, but I have never received one with artwork on top. I was tickled pink. Easy 5/5 star rating. The bartender is very friendly and knowledgeable about coffee. So many options to pick from including many milk alternatives. All of this at a competitive price at other specialty coffee places. My sister and I opted for the honey almond milk ice flat white which is the equivalent to an iced late and it was phenomenal!
