Food, service, and views sing at Breakwater. So many yummy options; I settled on a burger and green salad, and it was all delicious. If you like a crispy burger from a very hot grill, this is your place. I thought it was the perfect burger, served with a house made roasted pepper relish. The salad was delicious and artistic--see the photos. My husband enjoyed the fish tacos and said they were pitch perfect. We both had refreshing watermelon/mint lemonade. Nice little place overlooking the ocean, you could see the mountains of Washingron State in the background. I had there wings, while a little small, they were tasty. They came with a parmesan dill sauce for dipping, would have preferred ranch but it was still good. Wife had the clam chowder but it was different than she is used to back home. read more

I ran out of water and ended up drinking my husband's water. The chowder was really good. The recipe was none like I ever had and had a great sweet creamy fresh flavor. It comes with a piece of bread that tastes like corn stuffing. It was good on it's own, just didn't match well with the chowder. My husband really liked the chicken wings. Said he wished they had those in Texas. Said it'd been better with ranch dressing instead of the cilantro parm sauce. Said it was good, but after a few wings, the sauce got boring and one note. We went for three days straight and every day was better and better. - The smoked salmon was fresh and the bagel perfectly done; the crispy capers were unreal. - the breakfast sandwich was to die for! Had the $22 nachos. For that price they could have put more salsa, sour cream, and guacamole(extra$). It all came in small shot glass size containers. Very little melted cheese. We ordered the local sausage breakfast sandwich, the classic Canadian bacon eggs benny, a latte, and a mocha. All were excellent, but that first bite of the eggs benny was the single best bite of food I had on our entire 7 day vacation. Happenstance brought us to this location. Fate made it worth e stop. What an incredibly awesome way to start our weekend. We stopped at the taproom rather than the bistro - wicked good choice of I say so myself. The staff was wicked awesome mostly because of their attitude and knowledge. I have secretly restricted dietary constraints while the hubby can eat pretty much anything. The staff talked with the chef and was able to provide options from their menu that I couple work with for food. Our waitstaff provides an initial option without chief consult and her knowledge was spot on as it was helpful to provide me with base nutrition I could use for decisions. Needless to say not only was the meal during happy hour wickedly delicious, it was phenomenally good and magically delicious! Not a place I would recommend, service lacking, waited 10 minutes to order on a not so busy of a time period. Ordered a tea with meal ended up getting a large cup half full of hot water with tea bag wrapped in a cloth that looked like a piece of toilet paper. Upon looking a cup I find a large crack. Went here after arriving in Victoria on a cruise. It offered a nice change of food from what we had been eating on the cruise for the last few days and the views from the seating were spectacular. The couple of drawbacks were pricing ($12 for a grilled cheese?!) and the fact that being right on the cruise ship pier they are not able to accept American currency. For being located in such a tourist destination you would think that would be a given. In any case the food and service were both great. And I enjoyed the convenience of not having to walk all the way downtown to get to it. read more

It is on the water so you can't go wrong for a drink on a nice day. The place screams fish and chips and a beer. If that is what you want with a view then this is your place. The menus is not vast, but we keep coming back for a break after a great day at the beach for a walk. The service is good, the view is great, and the food... kinda doesn't matter but we keep coming for the other things :) read more

This place has an amazing view by the water we came over here after exploring the lighthouse, I ordered the salmon bagel and soup, it was amazing! The salmon was so fresh and the bagel was toasted perfectly and was a good size for brunch. You can choose from the house salad and the soup and I chose the soup, it's a heathy portion of amazing tomato soup! With onions and chunks of tomato, they even give you some crackers. Post Shi Shi Beach backpacking, we stopped here and I got the Seafood Platter with mash potatoes and country gravy. The interior was very quaint, clean, and charming. The staff and service was peppy and great! As for the food itself, it included a trip to the salad bar, which was a nice refreshing touch before gorging on deep fried goodness. The Seafood platter had shrimp, oysters, calamari, cod, and clams and it was all perfectly deep fried. Nice golden color on it all that delivered a crunch with each bite. The mashed potatoes and country gravy had a very nostalgic home goodness to it. Unfortunately, i was starving after the hike and gobbled it all up before I could take a picture. Highly recommend this stop. Side note: My friends milkshake was the most impressive milkshake Ive ever seen in my life, no exaggeration. Order it and you'll see what I mean! read more

Last time I was satisfied with my experience at the Breakwater would probably be back in 2015. Back then it was pretty successful at being two things - a cafe and restaurant. You'd wait to be seated if you were planning to stay or you'd go up to the cafe counter to order and leave. I've been there twice this year and I'm definitely not going back. First visit was in early January and I went with family. Not realizing there was a change in how they ran it there, we waited by the rear entrance door to be greeted because it was quite busy and I figured it wouldn't be a seat yourself type of place. We were glanced at several times before I finally stopped someone to ask how to go about getting a table. We were then finally notified that we had to go to the counter queue to order and then find a table ourselves. Service was not friendly and we felt largely ignored by the staff. Second visit was today, I decided to just grab a drink to go. When I walked in, their menu screens had been shut off so I had no idea whether I could even order something, neither did I know what they were offering. When I was finally asked if I wanted to order something, I vocalized the fact I didn't know what they had. The barista looked at me blankly and then listed off a few options, none of which I was interested in. I asked if it was possible to get a tea latte and unfortunately paid way too much for the size I noticed I was defaulted in the end. The barista who made my drink then wandered into the back office with it in his hand because his manager had asked him something. In conclusion, in my experience, the service has been atrocious and I've felt like more of a bother than a valued customer both experiences this year. Until the staff become more welcoming and informative, I will not be returning. read more

Our server was extremely forgetful and basically negligent. She placed a meal down infront of my partner who was unmasked ( we had been masked to this point) and it wasn't his meal, he spoke over meal. If I knew my meal had been infront of someone else speaking during covid I would have been upset. She got our fish and chips order wrong didn't being the side we asked for. This fish was great but one piece was the size of a nugget and the other about palm size. We sat with dirty dishes for nearly 30 minutes until we tracked someone down so we could pay.
