I love this Breaux Mart! They are so great when it comes to picking up some New Orleans treats and some essentials. I love to pick up coffee, milk, some fresh fruit and spices. Everyone has always been friendly all the years I have come to shop here. The security guard greets you and says farewell when you leave. I saw this mentioned in another review and had to mention it again because it feels nice. Its a nice little market. The meat and fish appear to be fresh. I have been to some other markets in New Orleans and sometimes it appears that the meat and fish just sit there and do not move. Prices for flowers and some things are very high though. read more

Great neighborhood grocery store, they have everything in a small compact space with a decent parking lot and a security guard. They even have some cool ethnic food items and a great Deli/ready to go section.. service is always friendly. DO NOT COME HERE OR PARK YOUR CAR HERE. Came here to grab a couple groceries, then ended up walking across the street for a bit to get a drink with some friends. I left my car parked at the Breaux Mart because there was very little street parking, they had plenty space in their lot, and I had been a paying customer so I figured it would be fine for a bit. WRONG. I get back after about an hour and my car was missing. They use one of the most predatory towing companies I've ever seen, who charged me $300 to get my car back after less than 24 hours and were rude every step of the way. Should I have moved my car once I finished shopping? Yes. Was it necessary to have it towed for an insane price instead of booting? Absolutely not. read more

Breaux Mart is a small grocery store that carries all the basics. Additionally there is a heavy emphasis on regional Southern Louisiana cuisine. They have a decent grab-n-go selection and a hot bar at lunch. It's a bit cramped, and the lighting isn't great but it suffices for day to day needs. It's location on Magazine is convenient and there is free parking in front of the store. I recommend walking around to the west side of the building ... there are several huge murals depicting the history of food markets in New Orleans. read more

Pandemic review: Breaux Mart has been my go to grocery for the current insanity. It's small enough to get in and get out quickly and big enough to have almost everything you need. They were on the front edge of requiring masks and putting up distancing marks and plexi for their checkout people. They even had signs to tell folks to stop fondling the fruit and veg. The prepared foods are consistently good and y'know I deserve a little container of fried shrimp when I brave the grocery! read more

Oh, Breaux Mart... *shakes head* Are you trying to poison your customers? You do know that green potatoes are toxic, right? They contain a substance called solanine which, while not lethal in small amounts, can still cause significant digestive upset and worse. Yet you guys proudly display your bright green taters, all cheerfully wrapped in individual microwave-safe plastic. Not cool, y'all. Perhaps it's time to hire a new produce guy, someone who's actually familiar with the stock and what is and isn't acceptable to feed to consumers? Just a thought. Been going here for years and used to be quite satisfied. However, I feel like the quality of products over the past year or so have declined dramatically. More specifically, it seems like every time I go in now I have to check the expiration date on EVERYTHING! 1 out of 5 times, a product is wayyyy past the expiration date. I was hungry and for some stupid reason decided it was a good idea on a Saturday around 2pm to trawl Magazine Street for a parking spot and something to eat. Ended up checking out Breaux Mart (a parking lot makes me so happy) and I was pleasantly surprised. The hot bar was fresh and after taking a stroll around to scope out what there was to offer all around the edges of the store I went back to it and made a plate. Crispy fried shrimp and catfish plus a big scoop of baked mac (like your mama makes on the holidays) ran me less than $8.50. I couldn't buy the ingredients to make all that for less than I paid for a hot plate and it was delicious. read more

I may be a bit biased as I live walking distance from this Breaux Mart, but they always seem to have exactly what I need. Sometimes their prices are higher than the other stores sometimes they are lower, but I don't mind thanks to the convenience. I find their meat prices some of the best around. They carry boars head deli meat at the deli counter, and a number of good looking prepared food. Their meatballs in the prepared food section are very good for pasta or sandwiches. I've also ordered sandwich trays from here and they are always fresh and easy. They also have the new Haydel's hand pies, and a large selection of halo top ice cream. Right after work around 5-6ish the lines can be rather long, but all the employees are so friendly it really isn't that bad. They have a security guard at the door who always greets you and bids you farewell. Also if you haven't checked out their Instagram, it's pretty entertaining. read more

Formerly an A&P, the Magazine branch of Breaux Mart has come along quite a way since then. Product: A decent selection of typical grocery items, Breaux Mart is more like a traditional market than more recent "big box" stores with every exotic foodstuff under the sun. This chain, and this store in particular, focuses mainly on locally sourced goods with a smattering of widely available products one might find at any grocery, pharmacy, convenience store, or big box such as Target or Walmart. Where I find Breaux Mart excels is their deli. There are usually specials on meat cuts, so be on the lookout. Probably the cheapest place I've found pork chops or roast in the area when they are on special, and none of that tricky "2-for-1" business like Winn-Dixie. (3 stars) Service: One of my biggest rubrics for service is how long employees have been there. They longer they've been there, the better trained they usually are and more competent they are. The staff here, on the whole, has had very little turnover over the years. I lived for a long while in the Garden District and Irish Channel, and many of the employees I became acquainted with outside of their work. (4 stars) Facilities" Although the basic building has not changed on the exterior, past new paint and signage, the innards and parking lot have had major overhauls. ***NOTE***: Do not try to park here unless you are a customer of the grocery, and only when you are shopping--they will have you towed, as this is the busiest stretch (between Washington and Louisiana) of Magazine street. The is a private, walled parking lot well-maintained. Aisles have not appreciably changed over time, but the inside has been well-renovated. (3 stars) Overall: A decent grocery to go to if you live in the area that is specifically a grocery and nothing fancy like Rouse's or Whole Foods. I would call it a good local option over Winn-Dixie. It amazes me that I have not reviewed this Breaux Mart. Let me begin by saying that every Breaux Mart I have ever visited has friendly staff. Whether it was the location in Algiers that is no longer there, or the Gretna location I used to frequent, Breaux Mart hires only the best. The Uptown location follows that trend. My primary experience with this store is buying beer during Mardi Gras or running in for something quick. The store is much smaller than the giant supermarkets that are close by, but I think I would frequent this location if I lived near by over the bigger stores. During Mardi Gras this is the go to spot to pick up beer for the parades. They have a very large selection of beer in cans including all of Abita and Nola Brewing's offerings. Another great thing about this store is their parking lot. While it is strictly for customers till 9 p.m., after then feel free to park there. It is a safe spot if you're going to the Bulldog or another neighboring establishment. Just don't park there before 9, as you might get towed. if you're in the area and need beer, or other items, check out this store. i think you'll like it. read more

Located on Magazine street, amid a mix of boutique shops, restaurants, and residential homes, Breaux Mart is provides convenience to people who live in the immediate vicinity and just need something quick from the market or like to make frequent trips to the market to get things fresh. To be clear, Breaux Mart is not a supermarket - it is relatively small. But even still, it is well stocked and when I was there I couldn't think of anything off the top of my head that I could have wanted that they didn't have. I like this place. I prefer the one on the WestBank, but this one is ok too. Decent selection though a bit higher on many things than Rouse's. Ample off street parking as well. One caveat...Don't be one of those people who parks illegally and then gets mad for being caught. That's just...sad! It's like saying, yeah. Were Breaux Mart my neighborhood shop, it would be better and get more stars. However. It is not. It requires enough of a trek that I'm annoyed to see the selection rivaling Zara's instead of Rouses. Please, don't go too far out of your way for this. In the neighborhood, though? Sure. The prices are more than I'm comfortable paying, even in a shiny Uptown neighborhood. (Rouses, you've spoiled me!) They do have a decent selection of both name brand and "off brand" canned and boxed foods, mostly from the Shur-Fine world. My beef is that my neighborhood store has the same stuff, for much cheaper. Where I'd pay $20 for a bag of groceries at Zara's, the same bag would cost me closer to $30 at Breaux Mart. And, really, Yelp, this is a niche complaint, but Breaux Mart's king cakes are really terrible. Utterly disappointing verging on "I wish I could use this as a frisbee anyway because that's all it's good for." Breaux Mart is never crowded, but I can't tell if that's a perk or an indicator of larger problems. Accessibility notes: Automatic doors. High shelves for seated shoppers. Automatic cart available. I love Breaux Mart. Their prices are good. It's easy to get in and out, and the cashiers are always extremely pleasant, as if they actually like their jobs. They carry only what you need, and not 50 brands of every single thing, the thing that makes it a chore to shop elsewhere. Really want something they don't have? Leave it on the suggestion tray. And to all of the idiots who are parking there and getting booted - good, you got what you deserve. They have a tiny parking lot, and you are hurting their business by taking up a space to go have a beer at Bulldog. And don't BS us and claim you were coming right back. We know your type. I used to go to this grocery back when it was owned by A&P. Since Breaux Mart has taken over the prices have gotten higher and the quality of customer service has plummeted. Worse, when visiting recently I have seen Breaux Mart's contractor illegally booting people. When I get groceries I don't appreciate being spied on by some sleazy fellow staking out the parking lot. Although the law requires Breaux Mart to make the booting decision themselves, they have left it up to this dubious individual who isn't complying with various provisions of the city's boot law. I've complained personally to Breaux Mart but they refuse to take any action. The prices are bad enough, but when combined with this kind of callous disregard for the law and for their customer base, it's clear that Breaux Mart isn't the type of place I want to shop. read more

This is a BIG AVOID. First time shopping there. Went across the street to check store hours at another place, then went back into the store to shop. While I did that, they evidently spied on me with a camera (that's what I was told), and immediately ran to boot my car, charging me $90 for leaving the lot. They are entitled to enforce parking, but this is as sleazy as it gets, and they are obviously corrupt and out to bilk as many people out of $90 as they can. And to the people who've said that we're whiners for being mad at being caught for "illegal parking," you're morons. No other grocery store in New Orleans has this kind of sleazy racket to catch customers doing "illegal parking." Their signs are not lit, so if you park at night, as I did, you can't even read the signs. Forget this place and head for Rouses or Zara's or any one of another decent places to shop nearby. I won't return and neither should you until they stop being idiots. They obviously can't make enough money by selling decent food, so they've got to do it with a parking racket. read more

The meat department could still use some work - though the added butcher case helps a LOT - and a more diligent eye is needed in produce. I heart Breaux Mart for my own reasons, those being easy in and out for the quick 12 pack or pint of ice cream. Otherwise my experience with this space = neutral. Once upon a time this was a drag ass A & P, and thank the grocery gods Breaux Mart not only took it over but gave it an almost 100% facelift post K. The staff are friendly, and the prices can be cheap though they're likely average to above average (though a 12 pack of Tecate is just $9.99!). Great parking lot, great location, and there's a convenient service counter at the front of the store for quick checkout or purchases of the harder stuff. read more

This is a pretty fantastic Breaux Mart. I wish the one by my house was this well stocked. This is mainly going to be a review of the beer selection. It's pretty great. I stopped in here and they had a great selection of Stone Brewery beers, including the ever elusive Stone "Enjoy By". I was impressed by their diverse selection of brews. They even had Lazy Magnolia Jefferson Stout, which I had only ever had on tap and had never seen in a bottle. Well, I bought it and it wasn't as good as it is on tap, but that point is that they had it here. They also had a bunch of beers that I hadn't heard of, so if you are in the area, and you don't feel like going to Stein's or Whole Foods, this Breaux Mart is a decent place for beer. As others have said, don't illegally park in the parking lot, because you will be towed. read more

When I moved here and was getting a feel for my grocery store options, I wasn't sure about this place. I had heard that the selection was sparse and not great in comparison to Rouse's. For the most part that is true, but I don't think that's what Breaux Mart aspires to be. They are definitely an easy option if you live along the Magazine bus line and have anything you may need to pick up for tonight's dinner or even a quick lunch from their deli. Quite honestly, I usually run in here to get alcohol or beer. The prices are right and the beer selection has lots of good craft choices. I also am a big fan of their fresh squeezed OJ. So in a pinch, I'll definitely run in here for a few things. Their staff is really nice and easy parking and access to the Magazine bus are key. Bonus points for their awesomeness on Twitter. I will always support local businesses that use Twitter to be more aware of what the community needs and takes the opportunity to engage with us. read more

Fortunately for those of vehicularly challenged Bureaux Mart definitely meets a need for those of us just far enough away from Wal-Mart to keep it from being a quick viable option (thank goodness because the guilt I feel by shopping at a Wal-Mart in the middle of my 300 year old hometown is overwhelming). The Good- 1. As previously mentioned convenience (location, not hours) 2. Meat Department -very fresh and moderately priced, seafood- fresh as it can be and moderately priced 3. Staff is friendly and pretty knowledgeable, although cashier on this trip seemed put out by my option to use both cash and card;, but you know I probably deserved that. 4. There are pretty good deals on regular grocery items if you take the time to read the add and just look at the signage. The bad- 1. Produce lacks space and variety. ( Not sure that can be helped without a remodel. 2. Freshness on produce not being featured for the week. 3. Lacks consistency and signage. Good Luck finding the price on bananas without putting on reading glasses and choosing from the myriad of old tags. 4. Needs a good old fashion scrub down and did I mention REMODEL. The store is clean, but not spic and span. If you are from the Midwest you know the difference. This is a very convenient grocery to where I live but they are a bit on the smaller side and often lack many things you can find in larger stores. The BEST thing about this grocery is they often have the cheapest prices on beer of nearly anywhere else in the city (cheaper than Walmart). If I'm pressed for time and need to do a quick in and out this grocery is by far one of the easiest places to do that as parking is very easy and I've never had to stand in a long line here. read more

Review for Sushi only. Purchased a raw sushi roll that was supposedly made that day. Consumed it within 10 min of leaving the store. Rice seemed old. It was kept at the right temp in the case though, so that's good. There was no Low Sodium Soy Sauce available in the bin. I got there kind of later in the day 4:30p and there weren't as many non-mayo choices. I hate Mayo in Sushi! It was ok for a quick bite. I thought $7.99 for the roll was a bit high. They get bonus points for selling cold Powerade Zero though. My personal go to drink. read more
