Imagery Wine Dinner at Rouses Date of event: May 23, 2019 Location: Rouses Market at 4500 Tchoupitoulas Street, New Orleans, LA, 70115 I attended a wonderful five course Imagery Wine Dinner at Rouses (for real!). Jamie Benziger, third generation winemaker, hosted the dinner and shared lots of great information about the wines and her family. Chef Sally is the resident Rouses chef, who - along with Sous Chef Mickey, and her culinary team - skillfully prepares each course with ingredients from right there inside the grocery store. She also does such an excellent job at plating and presenting the dishes to guests. She and her culinary team are top notch and easily make you feel like you're at a 5-Star restaurant...not just Rouses. #TrueStory Check out the 5-course meal with my tasting notes: Reception Wine: Chloe Prosecco Bellini -The Prosecco was light and refreshing. To give it a summertime kick, they added a splash of peach purée, which was fabulous! Truly a perfect brunch starter. 1st Course Imagery Sauvignon Blanc Grilled Brochette of Bacon wrapped Shrimp and Scallops accompanied by Fresh Salad of Butter Lettuce, Spring Pea, Asparagus and Edamame. -Butter lettuce is my favorite and to pair it with shrimp, scallops, AND bacon was heavenly! The tastes and textures in this appetizer played well together. Plus, the crisp Sauvignon Blanc was mildly acidic, with notes of tart green apple and honeydew. 2nd Course Imagery Pinot Noir Provencal Tart of Roasted Peppers, Leeks, Eggplant, Zucchini, Tomatoes and Imported Cheese -The tart was akin to a puff pastry, which gently cradled the sweet and zesty roasted veggies. The addition of the various cheese and robust Pinot rounded out this delicious course. 3rd Course Imagery Chardonnay White Fish (Tilapia) Fillet Sautéed and topped with sautéed Shrimp and Poached Oysters drenched in Beurre Blanc and garnished with Lemon and Creole Tomato -But for this dinner, I do not knowingly eat Tilapia. However, it was a well prepared white-fish, similar in texture to catfish. Thankfully, the oysters were locally sourced and predictably fresh and briny. The addition of Creole tomatoes and lemon added a welcomed acidic component and paired well with the buttery Chardonnay. 4th Course Imagery Cabernet Sauvignon Beef Tenderloin Marinated in Worcestershire, Steen's Syrup and Black Pepper served with compote of Smokey Bacon, Mushrooms, Glazed Sweet Potatoes and Bergeron Pecans -This was my favorite course of the wine dinner. The beef was hearty and tender. The garnish accompanying the tenderloins was bold and peppery, which paired exquisitely with the Cabernet Sauvignon. Plus, the sweet potato and pecan dish was creamy and rich. 5th Course Chloe Rose Milk Bar Pie and Louisiana Strawberries -This wonderful end to the meal started with an oatmeal cookie crust, which made it super dense, crunchy, and delicious. Reminds you of an Ooey Gooey Bar or maybe a Chess Pie. To my surprise, the Rosé actually held up to this dessert, which was artfully topped with local strawberries. A wonderful finish to a truly superb wine dinner. As in each wine dinner at Rouses, Chef Sally skillfully incorporates local ingredients, which make each course so fresh and flavorful.

This was my first trip to a Rouses and I was completely impressed. Nice selection, quality products and very friendly staff. This is definitely where I will be buying my groceries from bow UPDATE: just got off graveyard shift and headed to get groceries and the store has changed hours without notice. Thanks for disrupting my day by not updating your website or providing any notification to customers.

A whole refrigerated room just for beer.

This is the probably the nicest supermarket I've ever stepped into. I say that after having spent most of my life in California and the prior year living in Biloxi, Mississippi where food insecurity is a real issue and their idea of a nice supermarket is the Super Wal-Mart. After really being turned off by the Winn-Dixie chain of markets in Mississippi and relocating to New Orleans, I was amazed by the layout and quality found at this particular Rouse's. This was the first time I had stepped into a Rouse's so I don't know whether all of them are quite this nice or if this one in particular is a stand-out branch, but it was an amazing first impression. This place is very spacious and clean, with a wide selection of high quality goods. Security officers make frequent rounds. And yet, I feel this place lacks the pretension of a Whole Foods. I like that they have a cafe area where a student might come in and do some reading. You can also stop in and buy dinner. Unlike Whole Foods, which prides itself on healthy fare - this place serves comfort food, which is more my speed, albeit unhealthier than what you might find at Whole Foods. I keep going back to Whole Foods because that chain has succeeded in cultivating an association with quality, albeit perhaps in a way that makes it less accessible to the general masses. Although I shop there, I only go there for very specific things - I couldn't afford to go there for every item. So too is it the case at this Rouse's. While the breath of goods you can find here is much more in keeping with the needs of the common middle class family, the prices here are higher than at other places. So to shop smart, I would not go here for every food item I need either. I'd probably go here for last minute dinner items, produce, meats, and alcoholic beverages (they have an entire refrigerated room just for beer!). But for the basics, especially the packaged, name-brand items like cookies or chips or drinks, I'd probably go to a Target or a Wal-Mart to get them slightly cheaper. Still, the shopping experience at this Rouse's is excellent.

Our rip on surf and turf with produce and meat from Rouses. Bangin!

Utterly wretched. Soviet Union; Dirty and broken, long lines, empty shelves. Give up, please. Sell to someone who gives an F.

Food and items available were nice. Cashier named Sherry with pink hair was rather rude and dismissive. Overall fine shopping experience.

You gotta come to fresh market on Thursdays for the $5 bistro meals!!! (Beware they do sell out of…read moresome items.) They also have a hot plate meal where you can get a rotisserie chicken, two sides, and 6 rolls - feed 4-6 people. (Perfect amount for 3 people sized family in my opinion.). Depends on the portion sizes your family eats. Either way, great last minute meal ideas after a long day of work. Or for your lunch break! The workers are all really polite here, but the checkout line is not fast so make sure to get a basket or cart to make waiting in line easier. It is always clean in here, and they always have lots of fresh produce. Plus a convenient parking lot.

This has always been my 'go to' specialty market in NOLA…read more The vibe is good, creative offerings and just a very pleasant, upscale place to shop. The staff, especially at checkout, always seem to be friendly and upbeat, which is nice. The pre-prepared foods, snacks, drink choices, bakery and deli are typically better than most, sometimes better than the larger Whole Foods on Magazine St. here. And, they have an amazing floral section at the back entrance. There's a convenient parking lot that wraps around the back and downtown side of the building, but the spaces can be tight, especially with a SUV size vehicle. This time I grabbed some coffee, bread, brownies, and wine. Unfortunately, I found many of the aisles and sections not stocked very well. The bakery section had very little product as did several other places. Just empty bins and shelves. Hmmmm? It is the beginning of Mardi Gras season so plenty of King Cake and specialty vodka. Nonetheless, I do like this store. Fun fact- this used to be the Bultman Funeral Home, in a classic building on the corner of St. Charles and Louisiana Streets. Yes, indeed, a mortuary as well.
