Puerto Rican salsa playing in the background, I entered what truly felt like a small family restaurant in San Jose. What broke the magic for me was the choice in sides. I was recommended arroz con gandules, the staple that it is, with tostones. Rather than plantain tostones, I was instead subjected to bread fruit tostones. They were objectively not good. The waiter was nice, but I definitely would've liked further clarification on the different types of tostones available, as I had never heard of "bread fruit" and would've probably subbed it out had I known. Authentic Puerto Rican food in central Louisiana-who knew? Detoured here on a recent road trip to visit historical sites in the region. A recent article in a LA mag called Country Roads put this place on our radar. Quaint location in downtown Leesville. Our server was helpful in guiding us in dish selection. We decided to try a popular appetizer and mains featuring pork and beef. Food was tasty. I'm glad I took the detour to have this experience. read more

I'm from NY and was visiting family in Fort Johnson, LA. We googled Spanish food and Brenda's kitchen came so we decided to give it a try. We had the food delivered via Door Dash. It was quite pricey considering the rice, beans and fried 2 pieces of chicken did not come with any salad or piece avocado which we we typically get from other Spanish food places. The other plate was a fried pork chop, white rice and beans. We also ordered 2 orders of fried plantains. The entire order with tip (no drinks or other side) was $47!!! That's pretty steep. The food itself was ok. I think I would need to visit in person to give this place another try and see if they'll throw in some green salad or potato salad. read more

The food is consistently amazing! Authentic and fresh cuts of meat as well as properly prepared plantains and a simple but refreshing salad. The service is always friendly and theres plenty of free parking adjacent or in the back. The ambience is coloquial and theres plenty of room between tables for conversing in private. Great atmosphere! Amazing service staff is friendly and energetic Chris helped us through the menu and although I'm not new to Puerto Rican food it was nice to hear his take on the house favorites. This place did not disappoint we tried the empanadas, mofongo and arroz con cóndules with pork all amazing and the sauces Chris anticipated what we needed and refreshed our drinks and brought a sample of one of their drinks. if I could give more stars I would we will definitely be coming back y'all need to run to this little gem best place I've found in Leesville!!!! read more
