The several times I flew out of here, I arrived an hour before my flight, used my app to check-in, check my bags and go through TSA in less 20mins lol. American Airlines only fly in and out of this airport and they always fly to the DFW airport for your connecting flight unless your final destination is in DFW. Flights to and from this airport is definitely more expensive vs if you flew out of Houston or Austin, but if you mind the 1.75hrs drive and possible traffic and don't mind spending a little more convenience, then this is a great option. There's ample parking, a small area to chill and eat and a decent sized waiting area for your gate. There are only 2 gates so you won't get lost lol. All staff that I've dealt with have been nothing, but super friendly and fast. I live less than 10mins from here so I've always had a free ride so I don't know how the parking situation is here or how much it costs per day.

This is not an airport to come and hang out too early to avoid the "crowds". The runway area is fairly large, which helps with the military-related air traffic and of course the private jets that probably come in on a football weekend. The Texas A&M fire school is still close by, and the ride into the main campus area is longer than I remember when I first landed here in 1979.

Once in, the driver explained the process when coming back and to write down parking location and what gates he was stopping. Ending up giving him a good tip. Once I arrived at the airport, waited until the airline employee was ready to check people in. Had the tickets already printed to it was breeze! Going to security was another positive experience. Line wasn't long (5am) and the Jet blue employee was friendly and helpful. I was at my gate in no time. My longest wait was actually waiting to board the plane at the gate!

The biggest issue isn't one dirty table or one uncomfortable terminal--it's the obvious lack of management, attention to detail, and basic quality control throughout the airport. The floors are dirty. Tables look like they rarely get cleaned or wiped down. AC vents visibly appear to have mold or significant buildup on them. Parts of the air-conditioning system don't seem to work properly, which apparently explains the portable AC units and swamp coolers scattered around trying--and failing--to keep areas comfortable. Some of them seem to do little more than blow warm air around. But what really stands out is the complete lack of care. There seems to be very little pride or urgency from employees or management regarding the overall condition of the airport. These aren't small cosmetic issues. Cleanliness, functioning HVAC, facility maintenance, and basic customer comfort should be the bare minimum for a major airport serving a city like Austin. What makes it worse is the impression that leadership is well aware of these problems, yet the lack of quality control continues. At some point, responsibility has to fall on the people managing the facility. Austin deserves better. Travelers deserve better. Employees deserve a better-maintained workplace. Stop accepting mediocrity as normal. Do better, Austin.

Terminal 2 was clear when I arrived so I didn't have to run through a bunch of people, it was a pleasant arrival. Signage for bag claim and shuttles could've been slightly better. I was able to navigate fairly easily for the most part, however it seems the closer you get to your destination it's easier to get confused or lost. I adored the astronaut cow near the IAH entrance and the big photo-op letters! The quirky cowboy aesthetic was phenomenal. I arrived during the World Cup so the airport had plenty of soccer mannequins and memorabilia. Gift shops had space suits and Astros merch. The gentlemen at the shuttle/rideshare area were so nice! They gave me thorough directions on where to locate The Parking Spot shuttle. Additionally, when I returned a few days later for departure I had a favorable experience with a Clear TSA agent, she was very polite and helpful. I never have heartwarming experiences with TSA, I did here! She walked me through the fast lane process and brought levity to a stressful environment for many. Seats are comfortable in the terminals, bathrooms could be cleaner. I saw some trash on the floor in the men's restroom.

In the lower gate A numbers (A1-A15) they now have 2 new eating restaurants. In addition to the Breakfast Klub (southern breakfast/brunch food), they now have Simone Biles Taste of Gold (American, cocktails) & El Tiempo Cantina (Mexican, cocktails). I'm pretty sure they changed out a few of the fast food restaurants but I honestly didn't look at those. They had live music in the center near Breakfast Klub, in the area they call "Symphony in the Air". The live saxophonist & drummer sounded really great. Another change was the exit to baggage claim. It was surprisingly a much longer walk! From the lower A gates you now must walk all the way around toward the higher gates to get to the baggage claim exit. Its about a 5 min walk to get to the baggage exit/escalators. During this walk through the connector hallway of the lower & higher A gates, there is an Art display area called "Houston Airport Artist in Residence (AIR)". The display from local artist is wonderful to see. The enhancements for terminal A are good. Previously, it always felt like one of the more neglected terminals. I know IAH still has a lot of construction underway. I look forward to seeing additional airport improvements.

I arrived mid-afternoon, they must've timed the flights out right! I hate when I arrive to an airport and there's loads of people waiting to board my flight and watching us as we exit the plane. Not here, it was calm and relatively relaxed. Again, I'm only talking about my arrival terminal at the time (the rest of the airport is massive and always busy).

The TSA agents, the snack lady, the folks that handle the bags, they attempted to be helpful, but as this is a small airport ..they were sorely understaffed early and at the last flight. If you are waiting on a maintenance issue that isn't immediately resolved on the very last flight of the night...and you don't want to stay in the lobby downstairs, get an Uber out of their early. There are no hotels within walking distance. There are no 24-hour eateries. Yours just stuck like chuck. Alex N. from the AA team gets shout outs for being helpful. Just like the gentleman in the morning after 5pm, he was a lone ranger behind the AA desk and baggage. Even when the flight was finally cancelled (and the crew went to a hotel), Alex was helping the stranded get their bags. Unfortunately, in this situation you have to get your bags unchecked and then recheck them in the morning. This experience was a bummer.
