The Brent Hotel is attached to the Oschner Hospital in New Orleans, and offers a convenient place to stay for those visiting with their family members, friends, or loved ones. Given that this is the case, I feel it is a good facility even if it isn't the swankiest hotel in the Greater New Orleans area. The rooms themselves are comfortable, and many of them have a view into the magnificent atrium. This is really the show-stopper of this facility. It is a five story covered area with some of the largest and most spectacular tropical plants I have ever seen. There's fountains and nice seating areas where one can rest and have conversations. Another great option is the pool and jacuzzi area. These are both heated, and give guests a year-round place to relax and even exercise. Since the Brent House is attached to the Oschner Hospital, the Cafe Bistro, PJ's Coffee, and Smoothie King are all right there for the guests to enjoy. There's even the Brent House Barber Shop for your convenience. While one would probably rather not be staying with someone who is hospitalized, this is a fact of our lives. When one must do so, it's really nice to have a nice place to stay right there at the medical facility. The staff are very helpful, and accommodating. Everyone needs some relief from the stressful situation that hospitalization entails, the Brent House offers a place for the caregivers and family to have that relief. read more

Quiet and comfy hotel on Ochsner's main campus. Very tastefully appointef lobby. Great place to stay, especially if you have someone receiving medical care at Ochsner Health next door. Has a small business center for those who need to do some work, and the atrium is beautiful and peaceful. There is also a fitness center if you need a place to work out, and both a barber shop and a beauty salon in case you need a haircut (definitely good) or a new hairdo. There is an outdoor pool in case you want to take a dip and cool off. read more

Maintenance,housekeeping Front desk. All need improvements. Tub is always stopped up, thermostat doesn't work correctly. The last time we stayed there was a leak under the flooring woke up to wet carpet told the person at front desk who seemed mildly concerned. Old fridge in rooms that are noisy, old microwaves, old furniture the rooms still looks like the seventies but not retro just old. Hotel needs complete renovation, Everything is old. The only reason we stay multiple times was because family member was in ICU at Ochsner. Please do better it can't possibly be that there are no funds to make this a very nice hotel for patients and their families please don't take advantage of people who need a place to stay that's in close proximity to the hospital. Amazing front desk service, every room has been clean and spacious. We stay here often due to my mother being a transplant patient. They're always kind and do their best to accommodate you. This nice hotel located next door to the large Ochsner's on Jefferson Highway was a wow! My friend stayed there while attending a job interview. I imagine it would prove convenient for out of town care givers and families alike. I dropped my friend off and went to search for parking. I was a bit confused and ended up back at the drop off area. We quickly ran up to his room to drop his bag off. The biggest surprise was the indoors live garden atrium with water feature. It was dark but I snapped a pic. His room was comparable to any big hotel chain, I personally found it to be very spacious, nice and of modern decor. The only confusing part is the drop off/parking issue. There's little to no stand by parking area. It was late so I was lucky. You actually have to drive around behind the hotel to the parking structure(which we saw as we drove to dinner). I never got that far but I'm fairly confident that signage leads you to the hotel. The room was ok but the shower was clogged and it took multiple calls to get someone to fix it. Our car was hit in the parking garage. Trying to get security out to document etc was frustrating. There doesn't seem to be communication at this facility. The fitness room wasn't accessible due to the door lock having a low battery so the desk had to let me in each time. When we first arrived, the room was super hot. We set the temp to 62 and it blew hot air. They had to come up to change it to AC. Then we never could control the temp - it was either AC or heat. Not both. Very odd. Just a lot of little things that added up making the stay not ideal. read more

I stayed for three nights here because I was attending and presenting at a conference held here (about the history of medicine in case you wonder who the devil holds a conference at a hospital). And yes, the Brent House Hotel is attached to the hospital! Ochsner Hospital offers a lot of complex transplant and cancer care here so it makes sense to have an attached hospital where families of patients can stay and have easy access to their loved ones and clinical resources. Since I was here lecturing on hospital architecture it was certainly an interesting thing for me to take in as well. That said, there were some issues. For one, my first night here the room was utterly freezing. I kept adjusting the thermostat to no avail, too: it just seemed to blow cool air--as if blowing in air from outdoors (this was early March, mind you). The next day I brought this up with the staff and they explained that something had to be mechanically switched over by a worker: not something apparently that a guest could do, but some switch or hidden valve had to be manipulated. And that was done, and I had heat! Probably some sort of older water-based heating, but I saw nothing akin to a radiator so it's still a mystery to me. Anyways, next two nights, at least I did have heat. Also, the staff varies in personality: there was a very nice, younger, Hispanic dude at night who was helpful but a steely older lady at other times who seemed to wish she was elsewhere. For me, no big deal, but I feel like since some people staying here may be very ill or have relatives who are very ill, some more empathy and sweetness would go a long way. My room itself was fine: its design was a bit odd with a large foyer off of which was the bathroom and opposite, the closet. Then, a large yet cube-shaped bedroom with king-size bed. The window was sweepingly commodious, stretching the entire length of the room but alas, it only overlooked the very mundane and boring Jefferson Highway. Imagine however a window of this caliber at a high-rise hotel in the CBD! The bed-linens were thinner than most, something I noticed all the more that first night with no heat. The parts of the hotel/hospital I was in were nice enough. The hotel lobby is a bit odd . . . I can only say the style looks a bit like something from I Dream of Jeannie or Bewitched but not quite that clearly 1960s. It's hard to describe but fun. Sadly, it doesn't stretch very far into the building which instead becomes typical modern hospital mundanity very quickly. Do however, if walking over on the first floor from the hotel to the hospital cafeteria, look for framed black-and-white photos of the hospital's history, include its first aeromedical helicopter as they're pretty cool (again, I write about hospital history and architecture though, so maybe that's just cool to me!). read more

IF I COULD GIVE THIS A NEGATIVE ZERO, I WOULD. This is theist disappointing experience I have ever encountered throughout my traveling lifetime. First off, THIS PLACE IS A HOSPITAL. It's an old hospital that was renovated into a semi hotel. This place is right next to a hospital but it is MISLEADING AND DECEIVING when it came to searching for a hotel in New Orleans. I looked on the website and it seemed promising. The pictures were and so was the inside of the room. When I arrived I was appalled with the fact that I SAW HOSPITAL BEDS in those so called "hotel rooms". It doesn't even say on the website that it's part of a hospital and that it a PARTIAL HOSPITAL/HOTEL. I even called them asked to book a room and not once did the front desk agent mentioned it was a partial hospital hotel. Ontop of that I bought it online to buy it for a cheaper price, (asking price on the phone was about $130-140 a night) and to get the deal online it was about $65 total of $95 after taxes. After I booked it online, and arrived there, I checked on my phone to cancel immediately and it turned out that it was NON-REFUNDABLE. I WASTED ABOUT $100 and didn't even stay at the hospital/hotel. I was pissed off because I came from California and doing a road trip from there to Louisiana really upset me. PLEASE DO NOT, BOOK A ROOM HERE. You will waste your time and money. The Brent House is a great place to stay in NOLA and it seems like not too many people know this. It's not like it's out of the way of all the city happenings. The hotel is connected to the main Oschner Hospital on Jeff Hwy so it's literally just a few minutes drive from St Charles Ave, Carrollton Ave, or Magazine St via River Road The hotel has over 130 rooms, a beautiful atrium, a small Elmwood gym, a barber/beauty shop, pool, and two food courts located within walking distance in the hospital. There is rarely a rowdy crowd staying here which is always a plus. Lots of ppl that stay here are family members of hospital patients or patients themselves so they are not staying in town to party. Parking is convenient in the attached garage down the hall from the hotel itself. The rooms are pretty nice and they have a few suites and junior suites on every floor. Rates are usually between $79-109. This is the place to go if hotel occupancy is full everywhere else. They almost always have rooms even during the busiest times in the city. The front desk staff is warm and welcoming. Rafael and Joycelynn are two of the nicest in the business. Brent House you have been the go to spot for my friends whether it's during crazy busy Mardi Gras season, Jazzfest, Bayou Classic wknd, or just a random spur of the moment NOLA trip. We appreciate all the hospitality you have shown us through the years. You always come through for me and my friends. I kinda wanted to keep you to myself but I think I'll set you free. For what it was, I'm a fan. Brent House Hotel is connected to the nearby medical center, and appears to cater primarily to families of patients. As such, it doesn't appear their goal is to impress tourists, and that's fine. Don't let that scare you off, though. We found Brent House Hotel was just fine for our short stay in NOLA. The rooms are standard hotel rooms with all the basic amenities. The lobby does seem a little tired, but the rooms are alright. The front desk staff could be a little more thorough when checking guests in. My family and I had three separate reservations. When I arrived, I found that they had checked my brother in under my reservation. It took about 15-20 minutes to get everything sorted out, and it WAS sorted out to everyone's satisfaction, but it could have been avoided in the first place with a little more attention to detail from the staff. In the end, I felt we got good value for the rate we paid, and overall, I'm satisfied with my stay there. read more

The staff is absolutely clueless as to what customer experience means. 1) It took 24 hours to get someone to unclog our tub 2) A woman fell in the lobby and hurt her ankle. 3 of the hotel employees just looked at her and did NOTHING. Just walked right by her. 3) My car was hit in the parking lot by a hotel/hospital employee and we waited for 70 minutes (i called 3 times) before someone came out to help file a report (and that person wasn't even the person who was supposed to come out. He came out because the rest of them were too lazy) .. I then called the hotel 5 times to get a camera video of the person who hit the car. I called 5 times (everyone i spoke to just kept blowing me off) for this video and have yet to receive a call back from the hotel 3 weeks later. First of all this Hotel is connected to a hospital booking.com does not tell you that whole booking I think it's mostly for families that have sick family members to stay close by... Then next the lady at the front desk was over charging a rom for 4 nights an 3 days was $506 plus $25 she said could be used towards snacks an stuff but she ran the card for $581 an that does not equal $531 so we informed her she fixed the issue.. the good side to this is that the room are very spacious but the bathroom is small an the toilets are super low.. Where to start? The hotel itself is beautifully decorated with a modern design. It's only slightly awkward that it's attached to a hospital. You would honestly never know. There is stunning atrium and a fabulous patio with pool and deep, HOT hot tub. Now for the bad. The walls are extremely thin. I have traveled extensively and have never stayed in any public lodging that was this bad. Bad enough we heard our neighbor's full conversations during g the evening but we had front row seating to their drunken booty call at 3am. It was a wonderful experience to share with our 11 year old to say the least. If arriving at a hotel and seeing lots of stressed out parents and relatives coming and going - also hanging out in the parking garage at night - doesn't bother you then this 3 star hotel that has no alcohol on the premises may be fine for you. I arrived at 10pm after a very stressful day - needing only a quiet place to rest and have a drink - And instead encountered hospital visitors - people hanging out in the parking area - which did not make me feel safe. The parking garage is quite a distance from the hotel entrance. The hotel is also not close to local sights and food spots. You will require a car and driving time. None of this was convenient or desirable for me. As for the room it was ok. Bathroom was clean. Carpets look like they needed a thorough cleaning. Party of one here for a family member having cancer related surgery. Everyone here has been incredible, attentive, and caring. The room was very comfortable and clean. The closeness of Brent House to the hospital is a huge benefit for patients and family/friends alike. Within a three minute walk is a PJ's coffee, pharmacy, gift shop, cafeteria, barber/beauty shop. There is an atrium which is spectacular and provides a place to gather. A fountain and a beautiful Christmas tree complete the scene. Very convenient place to stay if you are here for a patient or working at the hospital. I've now stayed here a total of about 9 weeks (I'm here for work a lot these days). Make sure you ask for one of the remodeled rooms, since these are pretty nice with a large flat screen tv. The rooms also have a microwave and a fridge. Bathrooms are functional, toilets seem a bit on the low flush. Gym is lame. The only place to eat in the hotel is at the connected hospital. I would recommend you eat at Southport Cafe, which is at the other end of the hospital and not right next to the hotel. But your best bet is to leave the hotel and go towards uptown or downtown. read more

If you're visiting a patient of the hospital, you want to stay here. You take the elevator down, walk over to the hospital elevators, and go up. Parking is adequate and there's no ticket punching and validating. This is a quiet hotel. No one who's visiting a hospitalized relative is going to be whooping it up. The hallways are a little on the dark side and there is no luxury feel. You get what you need, a good, quiet, clean room to stay in. There is a nice atrium, however. I'll stay here next time I'm in NO for a few, non-vacation days. $100 a night for a good quiet hotel is a bargain, better than rolling-the-dice on some other hotel and getting noisy neighbors. The WIFI was very fast. You can stream Netflix on your device in HD, for example, but if you're bringing a Roku, you can't get past the html agreement. The WIFI extends all through the hotel and hospital without interruption. read more

We stayed here during Mardis Gras, as it was a more budget-friendly option and they had good availability. I wouldn't recommend staying here for any reason other than something hospital-related, though. It is indeed inside the hospital- you may see wheel chairs and such being carted around near the main lobby, which was a little bit of a weird atmosphere for me. If you're staying here for the hospital, the rooms are nice enough, quiet, and you can't beat the convenience. However, the amount that we ended up paying in Uber fares to get downtown probably out-weighed the cost-saving benefits of the hotel in the first place. The hotel is connected to the hospital. Super easy to get around once your in. The rooms are good size and have chairs, fridge, microwave. Everything you need. Walls and doors are paper thin, so you will hear everything! People walking down the hall, the tv next door and more... The house keeping was amazing everyday! Super clean. It is dated with a small tv but good channel selection. Good size pool and hot tub. Also short walk to the food court which is nice. I would gladly stay again. If you can get over the fact that the hotel is part of Ochsner Medical Center, then it's a decent option. Here are my pros and cons: Pros: Short driving distance to Downtown, French Quarter, Airport, Metarie, and any other NOLA attractions. I stayed for Wrestlemania weekend and it was one of the cheapest options to be close to the city. Free self parking in the garage. Free WiFi access. Room was clean overall, does have a microwave and mini fridge to store drinks and leftover NOLA cuisine. Cons: The walls are paper thin. You can hear conversations clearly if they're speaking loud enough. Not ideal for the light sleepers who wake up easily. Don't expect great customer service. No greeting or acknowledgement when I walked up to check in. Water from the shower was either too hot or too cold. You have to turn the knob ever so slightly to get the temperature right. Not much options in the area for late night food and don't expect a lot of typical hotel amenities and conveniences. Remember, it's part of a medical center. Overall, Brent House would be either a last resort option or if you're looking for something inexpensive right in the New Orleans area. read more

We stayed here for a family event and had access to a car. With that being said, it was easy for us to get around, so being further from the city wasn't an issue. Being attached to a hospital was not an issue for us either. It was cool having the hospital cafe readily available, though it wasn't open super late. This was the MOST disappointing experience EVER. It started off by being deceived through HOTELS.COM and then the Brent House Hotel website. The website posts pictures that are so NICE, and pleasant but FIRST of all FAILS to mention that they are located IN A HOSPITAL, and that they are pretty much in the ghetto, the outside of the building looks a PSYCH center. When we got there and were shocked out of our minds, the lady proceeds to tell us that "they are not required to state that they are located in a hospital" ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING me?! Also the website of HOTELS.COM said tthey would match the price of another website and that was not the case at all, they charged me over the amount. Also was stated that at the time of our booking there were only 3 rooms left, that was another lie, the place is deserted! In a little bit of fairness, if you have a family member IN that hospital sure its a convient place to stay, but when you drive 8hours from another city to stay in a nice hotel it is UNACCEPTABLE. Not a good sign when the first thing you see when you enter your hotel room, is a cockroach scampering under your bed. This hotel is connected to a hospital with an excellent reputation so I was expecting something at least a little like the Ritz Carlton next to the Cleveland Clinic. Instead there are stained carpets, stained floors, toilet and tub in the bathroom. There is a mini fridge and microwave but I would recommend you not leave food where the roaches can get at it. The best thing you can say about this place is it is directly connected to the hospital, very helpful for those with very ill family members. Never ever again! Chose 1 month in advance due to 2 queen room available. Showed up & was told they over sold. We were put in a 1 king room w/no heat. Promised us a 2 queen for the next 2 nights & gave a discount for the 1st nite. Next nite, no room change & told I wasn't given a discounted rate, that's just the 1 bed rate! Arg! I'm freezing & sharing a bed while I have a cold. Plus, the vending machine is empty. The only thing I was given for my troubles is an extra blanket. Worst customer service ever! Booked 3 rooms on hotwire.com through them and 2 hrs later showed up to check in. At that time our group was told that they are sold out and there was only 1 room available period. After the email confirmation was shown to the receptionist to verify the booking (and subsequent charge to my credit card) it then took over 2 hrs for them to "call someone" to credit me my money so our group could go elsewhere.... 2 hours my friends and I are never going to get back... what a wasted evening.. Well the first thing you realize when you pull up is that it is attached to a hospital. We booked on line and had no clue this was the case. Kinda sketch at night but on another note the room was really nice and the bed was comfortable. Room was pretty clean. This place is nice if you are visiting a patient in the hospital etc, but I don't think I would stay here again because we wanted more of the new Orelans experience & were not aware of this location. I stayed at this hotel because of a heart procedure my daughter had to have done at Oshner. The Brent House is is a service of Oshner and connected to the hospital. It's very convenient if you are here for a patient. You can park free in the parking garage attached to the hotel/hospital so I was happy to see that. There is a small gym and even a little barber shop in the hotel. A nice green courtyard is sandwiched in the middle of the hotel. To eat, there are two available places. Both are actually in the hospital but are easily accessible. My only complaint was that the main cafe closed at 5pm. The food at the cafeterias were not gourmet by any means, but wasn't bad either. It's expensive to eat here though, but it still beats having to venture out. We stayed in a junior suite. It had a flatscreen, king bed, microwave, stove, fridge and single serve coffee pot. The bathroom had a jet tub. The room was rather small for a junior suite, but then again I wasn't expecting a five star visit from a hotel run by and attached to a hospital. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. (I just wish the bed sheets weren't paper thin) The hotel overall showed some age but appeared real clean. The staff was very friendly and helpful during the stay. Overall, I would definitely recommend the Brent House if you have to be close to Oshner. I'd give the hotel itself three stars, but the service from the staff and location (if you need to be near Oshner) makes the Brent House a much more desirable place to stay. read more
