Ordered seafood chowder to start and mussels for dinner. They came 2 minutes apart. The offer was to leave the mussels under the heat lamp while I finished the chowder. I declined and pushed away the chowder. The mussels were good but 2 didn't open and 2 shells were empty. The waiter "spoke to the kitchen" and took the chowder off the bill. All of this before I even finished my glass of white wine. Won't be back, even though I'm staying at the hotel. All in all I arrived at 5:45 and was out at 6:15. read more

Overall I'd say 3.5 stars but I'm rounding up to 4 for the excellent battered fish and whiskey sour. We were staying nearby in Brentwood Bay and checked out the pub for dinner. The ambiance is nice, though most tables don't actually have a good view of the bay. I had the fish and chips, and the fish was absolutely perfect, served with an herby tarter sauce. I've had so much terrible fried fish even in coastal towns, so I really appreciate when it's done right. The chips were nothing special but good. I would have liked malt vinegar with mine, but they probably clocked me for an American, and the servers didn't come by often enough for me to ask. I had a whiskey sour, which was truly delicious, so the bar tender was on point. My husband had the Mac and cheese, and it was just all right. I also had a salmon cone on the side, and the quality of the salmon was solid, as expected. There are not many other options for dinner nearby, so they can rely on steady customers regardless I think. It's good enough that it's worth stopping in if you don't want to venture toward Victoria for a bite. The service was very slow, which is probably a larger organizational problem between the kitchen and servers or a staffing issue, so I didn't fault my server for it. The servers we had were friendly and replaced an incorrect item with no issues. I took advantage of the slow service to enjoy the Blue Jays game on the TVs inside the pub. read more

Thai was an upsetting and under-whelming dining experience from start to finish. We were only 1 of 4 couples in the dining room and our meal took 2.5 hours total. The zucchini wrapped halibut was absolutely horrible, no seasoning and very very dry, the lingcod was flavourless and the sides were drab and no flavour. The bread and butter starter was 4 small toasted pieces with butter with little to no flavour and the pink scallops were the opposite l, they were swimming with salt. The new menu launched on June 21 is not at all what you would expect from the island. It is fall/winter menu, it focuses on game meat; boar, bison, elk, rabbit etc... These are proteins that are meant to be eaten in cooler weather, not 30 degree summertime. Really let down with the menu. The only bright side; their pub menu looks fabulous, we should have eaten there. We won't be back even though we are staying in the hotel for a few days. Less than good service. Good food. We initially sat outside to enjoy the sun. Sun got too much for my pregnant wife and we requested to sit inside, where it was half empty. We were then told they were only going to let us do that because there were lots of people waiting outside and they would not let us do that the next time we come back. FOOD-- prawn linguini - a hit! Really creamy and delicious. Good amount of shrimp. The envy of the table. Comes with garlic bread that was great for sauce mopping Steak sandwich - probably not worth $26 but fine for steak. Good but would not order again. Chicken Brie sandwich - average. Mussels - sooo good. Comes with a mix of sausage and corn. Great with fries and baguette. Seafood chowder - amazing!!! They offer beer flights with a rotating tap. Their wine is very, very good as well. SERVICE our server was super sweet and attentive. Friendly and had great recs. AMBIANCE beautiful and right on the bay! Great food - far better than what we would have expected for a "pub." Yes, there are some pub style options, but menu has many fresh, local, and lighter fare options. The freshly shucked oysters were a great starter. I had the salmon bowl and requested the fish to be prepared rare - it was done perfectly - vegetables were al denote, and the broth base was light and not overpowering. My boyfriend got the beef dip on a pretzel bun. The pretzel bun was a unique twist on an old classic and we shared a bowl of the BEST seafood chowder I've ever had with loads of fresh salmon, clams, and halibut. We didn't have many options on where to dine as it was late on a Sunday, but I'm so glad we gave it an opportunity. Tons of local craft beer and cider on draft and available for off premise. Excellent service by our bar tender, great attention to detail, enchanting seaside atmosphere. I would definitely eat here again if I was in the area. read more

I'm really surprised by so many lukewarm reviews of the Brentwood Pub as I've eaten here a few times and always enjoyed my visits. My husband enjoys their selection of beers and I usually choose a glass of wine, cocktail, or mocktail. Then, for dinner, we've had the curry rice bowl (~$18), chicken quinoa kale salad (~$16), and sushi rolls ($5 - $18/roll). We've experienced good service and nice apologies whenever there's been a delay. If you sit outside, the views and sunsets are gorgeous! Note - they won't allow anyone underage in including babies but let us eat the pub menu in the fancier restaurant dining room (where we sat outside) when we brought our newborn son :) read more

The diningroom does not disappoint. Our favourite server is Nolan however we have excellent service with most servers here. Restaurant was full but Nolan created seating for us as we waited for our other guest to arrive. Got the Groupon for the Chef's Tasting menu while we waited to be seated. Our server showed us how to redeem it while we made our selections. The Chef's Tasting menu had meat, fish and vegetarian options and portions were ample. All three mains were full of flavour, cooked well and the dessert was the perfect finish. Thinking now to buy another Groupon for the next rush of out of towners to arrive on our doorstep! read more

But the Caesar salad is laughably overpriced at $17 for lettuce, dressing, croutons, and a drizzle of bacon. Artichoke dip was tasteless with hard, cardboard-like pita. Took some friends for dinner to celebrate an engagement and it was a real let down the sushi rolls were horrible lower quality then even at a grocery store the rice was dried out and old prawns tasted like they were cooked and sitting in the fridge for a day or two also our server was nearly non existent except before she gave us the bill she laid on her act pretty thick... Starting with an unimpressive onion soup; three of five mains included haddock (no comparison to Arctic Char previously offered), dry pork loin and an OK lamb dish - staff either didn't care or were puzzled that guests would like mint sauce with it. A mediocre crisp desert was served without whipped/thick cream because the chef decided to cancel it? Had to request some on the side. When making the reservation, impressed by being asked if there were any special requirements or occasion: a birthday. As the desert was being served, just told they didn't have any candles so "just sing Happy Birthday amongst ourselves"! And they calculated this dinner for four at $268! It's disappointing that such a delightful location has fallen to this unsatisfactory level. read more

Saw others eating who had arrived after us! Waitress apologetic but busy. Our food arrived lukewarm and one diner needed his reheated. They redid his dinner but then added too much sauce unfortunately ..another wait. Overall service slow, had to wait for order taking, meal service, then wait staff forgot to bring the machine for credit card. This inn and spa are beautiful and the hospitality impeccable. Unfortunately, the food in the restaurant is not good nor is it worth the high price. The ingredients are fresh and look good on paper but the execution is just not tasty. I had the tuna... it was very basic and not well seasoned, served with a bit of grilled asparagus and citrus squid ink risotto. The risotto was barley, too salty, and not citrusy at all. My beet/arugula salad was ok but again pretty uninspired given the price. They do offer decent friendly service, and a sushi and young diners menu, which is appreciated--but does not make up for the fact that the food is meh. Enjoy your stay at this beautiful inn but go somewhere else for fine dining. read more

Waited over an hour between appetizer and main only to be told that a take-out order snuck in ahead of us (as if that should matter). Mediocre, apologetic service for a supposedly high end resort, had to ask for things more than once. Dessert brought to the table before the dinner plates were cleared. Ice cream melted before cutlery arrived to eat dessert. No apparent coordination between kitchen and wait staff or between wait staff. It didn't seem that busy and looked like a lot of staff until you needed something. Burgers looked good, Mac n cheese was ugly, in a puddle, not on its own dish crisped with breadcrumbs. Tagine flavourful but meager and not in an earthenware pot. Salmon add-on overcooked and dry. If you don't order 3 courses you will leave hungry. Not many places to go in Brentwood unfortunately, but I get tired of excusing places because it's only Brentwood, or its only Victoria. I think they just don't care read more

Without a doubt the worst service I have experienced that I can remember. It wasn't overly busy and it looked like enough staff on hand. 3 of us ordered a beer, 2 arrived to table. Asked for some waters, 2 out of the 4 of us received a glass, had to reorder my beer, saw it sitting at bar until I decided to grab it myself. Food took very long to arrive. No water refills offered, empty beer glasses remained on the table the entire meal even after we ordered 2nd beers. Staff looked bored. Was blown away how terrible the staff was. I ordered from the main menu and proceeded to watch him eat and finish his meal without receiving my meal. Wait staff ignored our table - Luke warm water with no ice and no one asked to refill my glass. After an hour wait had to chase down the waitress to ask where my meal was. Had to ask waitress to remove dirty dishes from our small crowded table. She tried to butter me up for the long wait and no service but it was too late. I would never go back to eat there. Started with the beer tasting flight. We ordered the cauliflower tempura, salt and pepper dry ribs and a bacon and sweet potato flatbread. The tempura and ribs were good, the flatbread was a bit disappointing- Dry bread and cold. The server was great, and the environment was really nice. Seven family members had breakfast in the restaurant yesterday morning. We were really pleased by the quality of the food and there was lots to choose from on the menu (thus 3 stars). What was disappointing was the overall service (zero stars). Our waitress was either incompetent or new to the job. If she was new then the management really let her and us down. If she was experienced then she's in the wrong line of work. Of the 7 orders only one arrived correctly. One order had the wrong toast twice! and one never did get their toast order which was part of the meal not an add on. By the time the bills arrived we knew to check them closely. We were paying for three people but our bill had four meals on it, one not related to anyone at our table. Coffee didn't appear on anyone's bill even though it was served to five of us. We were hoping to make this location a regular meeting place for our family but we will think twice about returning again. Compliments to the chef though. read more

As locals, once again we're disappointed with our experience at the Lodge. We've been going on and off since it opened. The setting is stunning and we have had such a mixed experiences every time we attend. Food is good, service is bad, Service is good, food is bad. Today i had to go up and get menus after waiting 5 or so minutes for any acknowledgment that we were seated. I decided to have sushi. I ordered a couple of rolls and asked how much for individual nigiri sushi. He said yes that it is $2.50 a piece. This price was not on the menu. I eat a lot of sushi and 2.50 is a high price for tuna nigiri so I expected a decent slab on each. Disappointingly, when it came there were three translucent paper thin pieces of fish. Something I would pay $1.50 for at at any other sushi joint. The rolls were good but I was even more surprised when I received the bill and it said $3.50 each. The waiter was surprised but made no offer to adjust. He said he would mention it to the manager. We left displeased again. So disappointing because the setting is amazing. I'm sorry guys, we can't take guests here anymore when we feel the quality and value and service is on a dive. read more
