After a long day of ferry rides and car travel, my family and I wandered into Tommyknocker's Cornish Pasty in Port Townsend, and it was exactly what we needed. We have four very different food preferences, yet we all found something delicious to enjoy. The staff greeted us warmly and let us pick our own seats, which made for a very relaxed start. As for the food: Mac n Cheese: A huge hit with both my husband and son. Balsamic Strawberry Salad: Fresh, crisp, and really tasty. Chicken Tikka Masala: This was the standout dish of the day! This is a great casual place to eat in Port Townsend with so many vegan options! I'm so grateful to have lots of options here. I got the Vegan Vindaloo Pastie, which reminded me of a giant samosa. So good! I tried my family's food as well and my favorite was the Vegan Shepherd's Pie. The Vegan Crab Cake Burger was also a solid choice. Delicious casual pub that's perfect for a quick bite while in Port Townsend. They have a very large variety on the menu with lots of vegetarian and vegan items. One of my favorite restaurants whenever I'm in town. I usually get the mac and cheese but decided to go for the smoked salmon linguine this time. The food took some time to arrive but all of the foods arrived very hot and fresh. The restaurant has 4 TV's that usually plays some sports games. It's a great place for brunch for groups of any size! Mac and Cheese 5/5 Super rich/cheesy and always hot since it's served in the cast iron. I love that you can customize the mac and cheese to add whatever you'd like. The size looks a bit small but I usually get two servings out of it. The penne is always cooked well and absolutely covered in sauce. Smoked Salmon Linguine 5/5 I would drink this sauce if I could. The pasta is cooked perfectly and has just enough chew and bounce. The service was excellent--friendly and attentive even during the rush. We ordered the Kids Flatbread Pizza, a Baked Potato (GF), and the Lamb & Mint Pasty--everything was delicious and fresh. Great spot to reconnect with friends, old and new. We came in on a Thursday and they had something for everyone. Our friends visiting from out of town are vegan and the menu had a solid and delicious options for them to choose, they got the Vegan Eggplant and Lentil Lasagna and vegan Mac and Cheese. This cozy British-inspired spot at 711 Water Street has such a warm, inviting atmosphere perfect for a relaxed meal in a charming seaside town. Two generous 3oz patties made with Dungeness and rock crab, perfectly crispy on the outside and tender inside, served with a flavorful pesto aioli and fresh salad greens dressed in their house Tommyknocker's dressing. Every bite was packed with sweet, fresh crab flavor without any filler overload. Hands down one of the best crab cakes I've had anywhere. My wife went with the Crab Mac 'n Cheese, and she couldn't stop raving about it. Loaded with real Dungeness and rock crab, creamy housemade cheese sauce, and perfectly cooked pasta it was rich, indulgent, and comforting in the best way possible. She said it was "perfection" and she'll be dreaming about it for weeks! The service was friendly and attentive, the portions were satisfying, and the whole experience felt special. Our party of five was pleasantly surprised with this little spot. My wife and teenage and young adult daughters consider themselves Mac & Cheese connoisseurs. The Mac & Cheese scored between 9 and a perfect 10 with all three women. It was served hot and melty in a skillet and stayed hot until all gone. I didn't order it but tasted it (several times) and thought it was amazing, and I would put it in my Top 3 of all time. The other meals were also very good and so was my ice-cold local pilsner. This was not our first visit to Tommyknockers. We have vegan friends and they love this place so we visited last year and loved our meals ... whatever we ordered. That, I don't remember. We loved the interior. It's small and kind of quaint. The restaurant is definitely unique in what it serves. You order at the counter and the server delivers to your table. Beyond that it's kind of self-serve for whatever. Three of us ordered the bangers and mash. We did not care for it. It was made in a very thick, hard crust. Tommyknocker's is as close as you might get to a British pub (minus the bar), from the decor to the food to the noise. Our guests from the British Isles were delighted with the pasties. They said the Pasties couldn't be more authentic. The place was close to our hotel and they had the Seahawks game playing which was why we decided to come here for dinner. Nice ambiance and the servers were friendly and helpful. They ran out of the pasties we wanted so went with the pulled pork melt and the chicken ricotta pasty. The pulled pork was very tasty and would recommend it. The chicken ricotta pasty not so much. It lacked flavor. I would come back again to try what we originally wanted to order which were the Traditional Steak and Ruben. I think this was a mistake but I was charged twice for the pulled pork melt. I did not catch it until I looked at the receipt the day after. I actually had to think a bit to make a decision because each vegan option sounded good! (I went with the vegan flatbread pizza and was not disappointed. It had a little more balsamic than I would have liked-- but, still, it was a treat!) There is a "pub feel" in that you order at the counter then go sit down. This isn't at all a problem for me but I thought it worth mentioning for those who are looking for more of a formal setting. There were 3 employees visible and each was working away at their designated task. One was taking orders, one was cooking, and the other was busing and tidying the place. All were nice and helpful. I had high expectations from the awards in the windows and the other reviews. It's interesting because I would not say the food is bad, but I don't remember it as being necessarily good either. Just okay. If you're as hungry as we were, it will satiate your hunger, but it left us feeling a bit wanting. 1. Smoked Salmon Chowder (bowl $14)- This was pretty good. 2. Flatbread pizza with mushrooms (add $2) and sausage (add $5) = $20 - This would be a pass. 3. Lamb and Mint Pasties ($18) - Nope 4. Our favorites are the Chicken Tikka Masala (with naan and basmati rice) on Fridays, Mac n Cheese dishes (big enough to split--its very rich, and you can add crab, bacon, mushroom and onions, pulled pork, or homemade sausage for extra $), their flatbread pizzas, the Pigs in a Blanket (homemade dough with bacon wrapped smoked piggies inside and a cheese dip on the side), and the pasties!! THE PASTIES! They make their dough on the premises fresh...the attention to detail in the tastes are evident in their foods. My Husband was born and bred in the UK, grew up eating pasties and what this restaurant sells is not the real deal. The last pasties we had were in Cornwall home of some of the best pasties in the world. Unfortunately these were nothing short of a culinary disaster. The pastry was hard, thin and soggy at the same time. Other than the saltiness from the chorizo, there was no seasoning for the chunks of chicken. Definitely not worth the money or calories. Tommyknocker's was fabulous! It is a small place sporting British fare, with some Northwestern spins. Their main draw is their pasties, which are huge- close in size to a calzone. They can easily make for 2 meals. In addition to their expansive menu they also offer a daily special. We ordered the strawberry salad, pigs in a blanket, scotch eggs, lamb mint pasty, bangers and mash pasty, reuben pasty, lentil-eggplant lasagna, and the daily special: english breakfast burrito and a cup of basil tomato soup. The salad was HUGE- we split it as an appetizer between 6 people. It was absolutely delicious! The strawberries were fresh and sweet, and well balanced by the vinaigrette, cheese, pepitas and other accompaniments. Pigs in a pretzel blanket were fluffy and served with a cheese dip. I would highly recommend these. My party enjoyed the scotch eggs and reported that they held quite a bit of spicy heat. The three pasties we got were wonderful. The fillings were encompassed by a beautifully flaky golden pastry dough. The lamb one was served with a lovely mango chutney that offered just a hint of heat, a thousand island sauce graced the plate of the reuben and the banger one was served with a side of gravy. They make their banger sausages in house and they are phenomenal-easily the most flavorful banger I've ever tasted. I was pleasantly surprised by the lasagna, as I'm not an eggplant/yam fan. The flavors melded together to create a lovely aromatic dish. The lentils were cooked perfectly and the dish as a whole was composed beautifully. My grandfather could not sing enough praise for the burrito and soup! That tomato basil soup was incredibly robust and flavorful. The service was so friendly, and we were able to seat our party of 6 outside on their picnic tables. They offer inside seating as well for smaller parties. There is also a variety of drinks available (I had the fruit punch and it was refreshing, but very sweet). Okay so the world needs to know about the Vegan Crab Cake Sandwich. It was INSANE. I am not exaggerating it was one of the best things I have eaten in my life. I added the vegan mozzarella cheese - do it! The "crab cake" was so flavorful, moist on the inside, and crispy outside. The vegan pesto aioli was out of this world. The interplay between all the flavors was pure magic. I rarely write reviews but need everyone to try this sandwich.
