He came to my hospital room that evening and said "You will never need surgery. You just cannot move it until you see me in 6/7 days. Gravity will heal your arm." He left never to return. I carried my fractured right arm around with my left arm for over three weeks with major pain and swelling. My daughter and I followed their instructions daily as it got unbearable. We finally got another orthopedic surgeon in Seattle who was shocked and said emergency surgery should have been done three weeks early. Gravity was never going to heal my arm. No one should ever have to endure such inhumane treatment. Being a senior citizen doesn't mean you don't matter or don't deserve the best health care possible.

Finally I was referred to Dr Rodricks at Rainier Foot and Ankle. Right away he could tell something was wrong. He listened to my story from the beginning and asked questions no one else had. He confirmed what I always knew, my ankle was significantly damaged. The MRI showed not one but two tendons each with two significant tears in them. I'm 8 weeks post op now and on the mend! I finally am looking forward to regaining my active lifestyle and while the recovery is slow and requires lots of patience, I feel confident that if I follow Dr Rodericks instructions I will be back to loving the life I'm living.

I could bend my knee to 135°+ and lay it completely flat. He stated that I was far ahead in my progress and was happy for my recovery. The staff are all friendly and personable. I did have to go through my PCP for the necessary MRI before I was able to schedule an appt with his office, but everyone I dealt with was extremely professional and friendly. Upon being examined by Dr. Shonnard, he was warm, friendly, professional and thorough. I've since seen 3 more doctors to add more opinions to the mix and none of them have been as thorough in their assessments and examinations. He explained what was going on in my neck, what his believed my main option is and why, patiently answered what questions I had, requested that I schedule a followup appt and sent me home with a very clear letter explaining exactly what the operation entailed and what the risks could be. I was encouraged to do additional research and come back to the followup with any other questions. My husband was present for both the first and followup appts and between those appts I did get a second opinion (which was the complete opposite). Dr. Shonnard was still very warm, and very thorough and confident in his decision and was able to clearly explain why he thought his surgical approach would be superior to the second opinion's approach. He answered all the questions we'd come up with after reading the letter and doing research. Because of the aggressive nature of this surgery, I'm still waffling on getting it, but my pain and symptoms are increasing rapidly and my 4th opinion has brought me full circle to believing that it really is my best option. Every other surgeon I've seen has spoken highly of Dr. Shonnard and he is well known and respected in his field.

They saw my brother for a broken femur, which is obviously not a small thing, and from the moment we were there, the care felt different. The provider who saw him took her time, didn't rush through anything, and actually answered all of our questions in a way that made sense. You could tell she cared, not just about the injury, but about him as a person going through it. Same goes for her medical assistant. Super kind, attentive, and just easy to talk to. It didn't feel cold or clinical the way some places do. It felt like they actually wanted to make sure we understood everything and felt supported. Honestly, after seeing how they handled his care, I've been seriously considering switching my own care over to them. That says a lot coming from someone who's pretty particular about where I go.
