Last fall we took the Fulton Street cemetery tour on Friday the 13th and despite the abysmal cold weather and steady downpour, we found the tour engaging and interesting. My boyfriend and I recently did a special tour of the Rad Women public art project throughout downtown Grand Rapids with GR Running Tours. Our guide Caroline was super friendly, energetic, enthusiastic, and fun to listen to! She made sure to keep everyone in the large group together and kept a pace that was manageable for all. We learned about all the women depicted in the murals as well as the local artists who painted them. The tour we took was 3+ miles but they offer shorter tours with all sorts of themes, including architecture, art, haunted spots, the history of Beer City USA, firehouses, etc.! There are many options. The tours are great for visitors and locals alike, as there is so much history to be learned. Highly recommended!

Ian was an excellent driver and guide as he zipped across and up the dunes and through the woods as he explained the history of how they got there. My fiancé and I got there about a half hour early, but did not board until about five minutes before our time. I would definitely do this again with friends, family, or even ourselves. You stop at the top of a dune for pictures as well which is a great photo op. There are four people to a row and one big seatbelt per row so keep that in mind when booking with a larger group. One group that we rode with had done this experience a handful of times before and they said they keep coming back when they are in town.

I appreciate the toddler friendly activities in the play space, though. It didn't look like much but there was a nice assortment of books, puzzles, stuffed animals, and a couple other things that could be pulled out and gone through one at a time to take up space. My son also enjoyed the nature trail storybook outside, although it was a bit long for little legs and we didn't get to finish. We were told to arrive at 6 for a 630 start but our tour guide did not show up until a little after 630 and seemed a bit disgruntled that we were all waiting on a super hot day. We were even told that they switched guides last minute to handle our reservation even though we were there with ample amounts of time. I'm not really sure why that was relevant to share with us but it was uncomfortable and made us feel like no one wanted to take our group. We also didn't get to choose our stops (I guess they said we didn't choose on time?? Though it's not like they had reservations for us, so I'm not sure why that mattered if we could have chosen the day before) but still had a great time! I think they should provide a bit more guidance with picking seats and how to work through but I really do think that we just had someone who was rushing through and it felt a bit awkward. I can't say that I'd opt to do this again in the future but glad I had the experience.

Sure enough, we were told that they could assist. Curiously it took us two hours to get to the location - from Zeeland to Holland via Pullman? - and it wasn't even the right place. DonStar had taken us to Evergreen Commons, a retired persons activity & community center! WTF? We want adult novelties and DonStar takes us to an old folks home?? -3 stars for gross inaccuracy. Plus, I could have sworn the representative was either drunk or had some kind of mental impairment - lots of rambling and use of the word "gosh". -1 star for unprofessionalism. Not being one to completely trash on others, I do have to say that the representative did a passable job of keeping us amused - when we could understand what he was saying. As we rambled about the countryside he regaled us with a story about his Uncle Goober and some unfortunate, embarrassing event involving a three-legged llama and some veterinary-grade suppositories. +1 star for entertainment value. All in all, DonStar isn't worth the hassle. You'd be better off calling Jimmy Johns for directions.

HE FRICKEN CALLED PIZZA HUT! Minus three stars. However, I did get to eat a large pepperoni pizza, and I was hungry, so plus one star. I will say that one time he did pull through for me. When I needed directions to a pharmacy, Don's instructions did lead me to a very close location. Overall, I do NOT recommend this service.
