I've been taking my fur babies to Breton's for over 20 years. It's a home away from home place. Joyce and her husband are professional and they know how to handle dogs. Recently I had 2 of my dogs boarded there, Mika our young pup (a year old) had a difficult time adjusting, Joyce took extra care with her. I emailed Joyce several times while on vacation and she responded right away! I felt assured that Mika was in good hands! Thank you Joyce!! DO NOT GO HERE! MY DOG ALMOST WENT BLIND! My dog stayed here while we were on vacation for 4 days. We went to pick her up, got her in the car, looked in her eyes and they were so red and covered in gunk you couldn't even see them. NO ONE TOOK HER IN, CALLED A VET, OR EVEN TOLD US WHEN WE CAME TO GET HER THAT THERE WAS SOMETHING WRONG. We rushed her to the vet and got it taken care of but if it progressed she would've went blind. If we had been gone on a longer trip she would be blind. She had just gone to the vet the weekend before and had no issues. I can only assume the people who work here do not even look at the animals they are watching. My animal could've gone blind and they did NOTHING. I am not even going to post the photo of her when we picked her up because it is disturbing. Luckily after a lot of stress and a long vet visit she is doing better but she can barely open her eyes and they are rolled back in her head. I really do not know what else to say but PLEASE take your animals to someone who is going to pay attention to them. read more

I used to like this place a lot a few years ago (5 stars a long time ago). The people were so great and helpful. When my dog refused to eat (because he was so sad and missed us) they would offer him Mc Donald's cheeseburgers!! So thoughtful! I believe the management and staff have since changed and I've not had the best experiences of late. The people are not as informative as they used to be and I had to take my dog to the ER after a stay at this place. He had a hot spot that was was so severe and infected that I had to take him to the ER and pay nearly $650. The kennel never called me to ask for advice or offered care to him!. They just said, "it was his fault," so I was not very happy about the lack of empathy or care. read more

This was the only place in the Bay Area that provided cat boarding for my 3 cats on relatively short notice. I had called one other boarding place but they were full and recommended me to Breton's. I'm so glad they referred me because my search was leading to all dead ends--plenty of dog boarders but only cat sitters in your home, which doesn't help when you are moving. Joyce provided excellent customer service, very friendly, efficient, answered all of my questions, and I also love that their website and voicemail message are very informative. Well, yes, I know I am a freak for thinking my dog is a family member...make fun all ya want! Sorry had to get that over with first. When it came time to go on vacation I wasn't sure what to do with the dog (i hate calling her the dog but don't want to use real names on the Internet, you might steal her or put her head on someone Else's body for some sick doggie porn!). SO i did research. I asked every one i knew that had a dog, that thought of having a dog, that once had a dog, as to where the best place to leave my precious flea bag. I consulted my vet, I consulted weird people at local dog parks and I was given some ideas. I visited places. My best choice was Bretons. They were clean. My dog came home clean and i did not opt for the bath that they offer at the end of the stay, the place just did not stink like some and so she didn't need it. The staff is awesome.They have raised wooden beds, as most places had only concrete. The were allowed to go indoors and outdoors. In the summer the outdoor area has misters. The indoor is air conditioned. They are not allowed to frolic with other dogs but that is fine with me. They take them out for a bit, and you can pay a little more and they will play with them longer. They administered meds to my dog at no charge (yes some places charge..) Breton's is family owned . The family lives in the adjacent property so I felt pretty safe that someone was always near....oh in case of fire or something...At all the other kennels the staff leaves and doesn't look back. I like that they actually knew my dogs name and knew where to find her they didn't have to look it up and print a map (yes some places do that.). All in all if she had to go to doggie jail this was the place. read more

Great facility, been taking our dogs here for years now. Wouldn't trust anyone else with them. Dogs have a good amount of space and activities through the day to keep them busy while we are away. I have only had a dog through my parents-that is until moving in with my wonderful man and his wonderful dog. This being said, when we decided to go away for a long weekend this summer and needed to find a place to board our doggie, this was the only place that had an available spot. The staff was incredibly friendly, the place clean and had good energy. The prices were reasonable, and when we picked up the dog, he was of course happy to see us, but no worse for wear. He even licked the workers when they said goodbye to him. So, when we decided to go away again for the weekend later this summer, we called them first thing, and got a coveted spot on the reservation list. Our dog was greeted by name and by memory. He didn't wimper or whine when we left and I would recommend this place for sure! read more

Our dog Stormy stayed at Breton's for 3 nights while we were in Disneyland last week. It was the first time we boarded him anywhere. I felt he was taken care of very well! When we picked him up they took the time to tell us how his entire stay went, what he ate, and even made a suggestion about where we might get him some play time with other dogs at a doggie day care. My dog was so traumatized by my giving him eye drops when he suddenly developed KCS. Because I was unsuccessful in putting the drops in his right eye he could very well be blind. I searched everywhere in the net for answers, even sedatives didn't help. The opthamologist asked Brenton for help and he offered a free lesson. In less than an hour I was able to get the drops in his eyes and I had training tools to work with. My doggie has hope again. I can't express enough gratitude for his help! I had such a good experience with Breton's School for Dogs and Cats. My mother had surgery and I left my dog at the kennel to go home and assist her. I ended leaving my dog there for an extra week. The staff was great, they even bought his special hypoallergenic dog food for him after he ran out of food. Buddy was very clean and smelled good when I picked him up. The staff had washed his bedding and toys. The facility was clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Buddy seemed to enjoy the workers and the all knew his name. read more

Based on other positive reviews, when our rescue dog's orthopedic surgery recovery period overlapped with our pre-paid vacation, we gave Breton's a call and carefully explained our dog's condition (torn ligaments in one front leg, a cast on the other as it healed from surgery to fix torn ligaments). We expressed concern that there was a drop (about 18") between the day/night housing areas. They assured us they could handle a "special needs" dog and that they had a ramp between the housing areas that could be navigated by a dog with a cast on her front leg. When we got there the day before we left town, it was clear that our dog would not be able to navigate the ramp. We spent an hour with one of the staff assigned to her trying to find a solution. We all finally agreed that our dog would reside in a cage near the doorway and they would walk her the short distance from the sleeping area to the daytime area (where the food was kept) each morning, and back each evening. We left them with strict instructions that they were NOT to open the doorway between the areas because we did not want her to jump or fall the 18" drop onto the concrete floor. They kept reassuring us & told us to "call anytime" to check on her. Well, "call anytime" meant you had to call during weekday office hours because they never answer the phone otherwise. Since we started our vacation on a Friday, by the time we reached our destination it was Friday evening PST. We called and left several messages throughout the weekend, becoming more and more concerned when no one called us back. Finally, we called on Monday afternoon PST and spoke to the owner. She was so pleased & boasted that she had "trained the dog to jump & climb between the two living quarters -- without using the ramp!" I was dumbstruck. Even after I told her she violated our instructions, she didn't get it. Finally, I asked, "What makes you think it's OK for a dog with TWO BROKEN FRONT LEGS to jump 18" onto a concrete floor?!?!?! Do you have ANY IDEA what kind of DAMAGE you may have done to her legs?!?!?" It was the hint of liability that finally snapped her back to the reality of what she had done. I can't believe someone who takes care of animals for a living could be so stupid. About the only smart thing she did was load our dog into her car and drive her to the orthopedic vet. I called them immediately to tell them our dog was coming and needed to be evaluated. To my relief, they offered to kennel our dog for the duration of our vacation while they evaluated her legs. The owner of Breton's never contacted us --- not even to inquire about our dog's condition. If I could rate this facility with ZERO stars, I would. read more

I've had my dog since she was a puppy...she's 12 now. I called Breton's to get more info on boarding her while we are out of town for the weekend. Not only did I not make a reservation for her, I couldn't even get my questions answered without the lady on the other end sighing and acting totally annoyed. I don't feel my questions were unreasonable; I asked: 1. Are dogs kept separate from one another? 2. Where do they use the bathroom? 3. What is the pricing? After each question she acted as though I should know all this already. Well, it turns out that I don't need to know. I will not be using this boarding place! read more

We've taken our dog here twice within the past month (once for a 1 night stay, and another for a 4 night stay). The facility is clean and appears to be well-kept. Our dog is about 25lbs, and is classified as a miniature dog...getting us the lowest rate. Each dog has a private kennel that is kept warm in a temperature controlled building. The kennel opens up to a private dog run during the day, where a dog can go in/out of his kennel as desired. The dog runs are separated by plexiglass, so there is no physical mingling with other dogs, but they can see/bark/talk to each other. If you pay a little extra, there is "play time" that is offered during the day, where your dog can go into a common area. No other dogs are in the common area at the same time. Both times we picked up our dog, she was still very clean, and didn't have that "kennel" smell. Food is provided during your stay, but you have the option of brining your own food/bowl as well. Bathing services are also available for an additional charge. read more

This is my spot for my little bad a$$ munchkins. Clean and always accommodating us. My little babay's kids run on in without looking back, thank GOD 'cuz Momma be ret to drop 'em off, okay? I've been a loyal customer of Breton's for years. I used other kennels before, and was never impressed with the facilities-- they usually consisted of cages in small rooms or even closets with little attention or play time for the animals. I always felt horribly guilty leaving a beloved pet in those places! Then a friend told me about Breton's. Breton's facilites are clean, light, bright, and roomy. The staff always makes us feel welcome, and let my kids go back to see where our pet will be staying and say goodbye. They always make a reminder call when I have a reservation, and welcome us when we don't. You won't find a better, cleaner, safer place for your pets. read more

This place is wonderful. I was in between moves and could not find a place that would allow cats. This has been a very stressful time. I moved out of the home I was renting a room from and could not believe the cost of places to rent, not to mention the fact that most places will not allow pets. I went online and either no one answered the phone, or the places that were close to me were too expensive. I found Breton's online and called and spoke with Joyce. She was so kind. She put me at ease and gave me instructions on how to get to their place. They made me feel special and so relaxed about leaving my pet in their care. When I picked up my dog on a hot day afternoon at a schedule earlier than I gave them, I realized what a mistake I made. The poor animals were all hawling and locked up in small cages with no water, they were exhausted and barking like crazy. The care taker seems was taking a nap and not aware of any discomfort or the despiration the dogs were experiencing. I will never go back to this place again. You pay to only have your dog locked up in a cage. You have to pay extra for everything, including walking and playing time. Ya, they were nice, to the person who pays cash but not to the animals they are supposed t take good care. My dog lost his voice the next day and it real made me very sad. read more

We can't say enough positive things about this place! They always take our dog Krypto in with short or no notice. He jumps out of the car and runs right in. (I have to pull him into the vet). This is an excellent, safe and clean place to kennel your dog in the Danville area. We have an 80 lbs Bull Dog and he always comes back happy, clean and well cared for. We pay a little bit extra to have him exercised and the staff really seems to care about your dog. High recommended. We have kenneled him for up to nine days and as short as 2 days and we always feel great about him being with Brenton's and he is always willing to go with them. read more

Top notch. Our dog was sent home from all the other boarding places we tried due to anxiety. She doesn't like to be in a pen with lots of other dogs. Breton's fixed the problem! The pens keep the dogs separate, yet they still receive exercise and attention. She came home calm, happy, and suffered none of the anxious fallout we dealt with before. I would NOT suggest bringing puppy's under a year old here. There young male trainer acts with force and is not loving towards your puppy. In situations where a puppy needs a little bit more patience and love he completely disregards them and does not put in the effort needed to actually get to know them and play with them. We paid for ALL of the extra play times possible and we're only gone for 3 days. When we picked up our puppy he was almost unrecognizable. He acted like he hadn't been played with in days, and was extremely filthy. We will not be going back or continuing to suggest this place to our friends and family. This experience makes us not want to ever board our puppy again. From the state of our dog to the demeaning and disrespectful comments we received from the moment we got there we were absolutely appalled! I wouldn't suggest it! read more

Breton's is "The Happiest Place on Earth" according to our dog. By the time that we are even within 2 miles of their location, our guy is squeaking with excitement! He had never been left at any type of boarding facility as he has major separation anxiety issues. They pamper him just as we do. We also tend to call once in a while to check in and they never seem to mind. He always appears to be freshly groomed weather we have requested it or not. He naturally is excited when we pick him up but he is tired from all of the attention, exercise and playtime that he has had. I am very thankful for such a wonderful facility and fantastic staff! read more

I have taken my two Kerry Blue Terriers to Breton's 3 separate times and been very pleased with the care of my pets. My girls are like night and day in energy levels, and the Breton staff are very good at finding a way to get them active! I had always heard horror stories from friends that Kerries don't do well at boarding kennels, mine must be an exception. My girls enjoy their time there and happily get out of my car to go inside! read more
