For having such a small footprint they shop has everything you could possibly need for home brewing and wine making. If you are a novice they have a wide variety of kits and if you are a seasoned pro their grain selection is next level. The employees are super knowledgeable especially when it comes to different yeast strains and flavors. What I like about this shop is if you are trying to make a clone of your favorite brew and they don't have it they will research it and put an ingredient kit together for you. Home brewing is not super difficult and they have starter kits ranging in price from $100 - $200 for the equipment. Price wise they are compare to Amazon.com and certain things like grains, sugars, cleaners, and stainless steel equipment are priced significantly lower. Amazing selection of things fermentational! Actually, I went in to find brewers yeast. Turns out, there are lots and lots of types used by brewers for specific kinds of beers and ales. My challenge was, I'm trying it for pizza dough! The staff was super helpful, admitted that no one had ever come in for baking products! They offered a more generic brewers yeast in packets similar to the baking yeast offered at grocery stores. A couple of years back, I decided to try my hand at cheesemaking, starting with a fresh mozarella. Brew Your Own Brew had rennet and citric acid available, along with some tips on what other customers' experiences had been. Find a reason, any reason at all, to shop this store! I have been a patron for, at least, 17 years. The owner, Gary, is the best! If anything is amiss, you can count on Gary to fix it personally and compensate you for any inconvenience you may have. When I started home brewing in 1997, my goal was to make beer as good as my favorite store bought beer. At that time, my favorite commercial beer was Sam Adams Boston Lager. Well, with Gary's help I am proud to say that I have surpassed that goal! His recipe called Ying Yang ( a clone of Yuengling Lager which is not available in any store in this area) is the best beer I have ever made! Gary has other home brewers that work in the store that are always available to help you. But if they do not have the answers, I have always found Gary to be very helpful. A week later when visiting Tucson we met. The back of the place invites folks to come learn and share. The supply end of things is good too. I'm an novice brewer and needed some advice. I went to BYOB and they hooked me up with everything I needed and allowed me to look around. Everyone there was very helpful - they didn't treat me any lesser than a brewer with more experience. I highly recommend them for anyone starting out or anyone needing supplies. One problem: parking. Parking is bad - you can find parking in front or at the Blue Willow restaurant, but otherwise it's hard to find parking. Other than parking, it's really a great place for all brewers. read more

This is a home brewers haven! I actually don't brew my own beer, but this shop is great for stocking up on bottles, labels and other items for bottling in general. In my case, it's for homemade limoncello and liquor infusions. I find that the prices are right, the customer service is great and it's easy to find what I need. I remember how excited my dad was when this store opened. He took up home brewing years ago as a hobby after trying out one of those Mr. Beer kits with the mini plastic keg. One thing led to another - and now an entire room of his house (plus some of his garage) is dedicated to his hobby. He moved on to making wine, but not before mentoring his kids in the craft of home brewing. Me and my sibs have since taken up brewing, and Brew Your Own Brew has been a fantastic resource for our brewing and vinting needs. Brew Your Own Brew is a great little home-brewing store with friendly, knowledgeable staff and all the supplies you'll need to start brewing at home. In addition to an array of brewing equipment and materials, they carry a wide variety premade beer kits - cream ales, IPAs, stouts, lagers, you name it - to appease any taste. In addition to premade kits, they have a decent selection of ingredients for customizing your kit or putting together your own recipe. The guys who run this shop are a fantastic resource for developing recipes. When we wanted to brew a Sapporo clone, the owner did some research for us and put together a custom kit. If you've ever been remotely curious about home brewing, I would encourage you to give it a try. It's not difficult, and you'd be surprised how good even the simplest of kits turns out. You won't save any money brewing your own beer, especially once you get into the more complex brews... but it tastes so much better than anything you'd purchase at the grocery store. It's also a lot of fun, and a couple of swing top bottles of beer with a clever label makes a great gift. Brew Your Own Brew carries supplies for making homemade root and ginger beer (sans alcohol) and for making wine (which takes more patience than beer, but is still a lot of fun). They even have some supplies for making your own cheese. Even if you hate beer and wine and have no interest in brewing anything - stop in anyway. Brewing is part microbiology and part chemistry, and I can't tell you how many times I have come in here to grab supplies for my kids' science fair projects. Check them out! read more

I almost always go to BYOB when I need beer or winemaking supplies. All the workers there are friendly and are quick to learn your name. They will help you with a recipe and are fairly knowledgeable about beer making. Another nice aspect is that you can put together your ingredients yourself if you know what you want. They have almost anything that you could possibly want. Do not be deceived into thinking this is a tiny store front as the building runs long. I found their customer service excellent. We got one-on-one attention for at least an hour and the staff was super knowledgeable. We stopped in to grab a gift card for our neighbor and walked out with a scoby and supplies to start brewing our own kombucha. They also have cheese making kits, brew your own soda, wine, lemoncello, and mothers for various vinegars. In about seven days my kombucha will be ready to bottle and I cannot wait!!!! I am very minute and a juvenile in the beer brewing world. The part that impressed me was that, even as small as I am in this space, the young gentleman took time with me. He was patient and listened to me to understand my needs. I spent less than $20 in there today. But, the experience I was given will bring me back for all my needs even though I live 20 mi away from the store. He advised me on what he would recommend and would not recommend, which is very helpful. He was honest, which goes a very long way. I held off on spending more money on an item, that he advised I not do. It's a cool little place. I'll be back! Used to be the only place in town. Over the last 2 years I found the service ranging from between unhelpful and condescending. Look online or elsewhere for brewing supplies, they'll probably be cheaper, even with shipping. My favorite experience was showing a recipe (not even all that complicated, maybe 6 types of grain) to the staff, who sighed, then told me "all the grain is in the back, knock yourself out". I had to lift the grain buckets around and figure out the settings on the mill by myself, it took about 5x longer than needed. read more

This is a great brewing store. I tried the other homebrew store in town, but this one is miles ahead. Wish I had realized it before I spent $100 at the other place! This store has helpful, friendly employees who are willing to explain nuances of brewing to me, someone who is only on my 4th batch of beer. Not only that, but these guys are a lot more laid back, which really helps for the new brewer. I like that their yeasts and hops can be viewed by the customers, so I can see what they have and then find a recipe that uses it (the other store in town keeps their ingredients hidden and inaccessible, you have to ask for what you are looking for). Moral of the story, this is a great place and a bit cheaper on some products than the alternative in town! read more
