Charged me $350 to tow my car LESS than a quarter of a mile. I don't care if your tow trucks run on liquid gold it does not cost that much

When I was moving into my apartment I parked in the spot I had rented and ran inside for one minute to get my parking pass, when I came back outside they were taking my car away and would not listen to me when I was explaining there was no way for me to have had a pass yet because I just got there but it was indeed my spot. Nice ticket for my move in day. About a month later I got back to my spot and there was someone in it- when I called to get them towed I was given a lot of attitude and told it would take 2 hours to get there. The owner of the car got outside after a hour and told me they were parked there all day and were able to leave before the truck got there. I find it crazy that I as someone who rent that spot for myself will get towed in one minute but the person parked illegally in my spot gets off on nothing. Note that I was stuck outside to wait during that hour (evening and winter time) because I can not park in any spot that's not my own. read more

My neice was towed by this company less then 5 miles, the car slid off the road & into the ditch on her way from class, in the evening one night. I drove out the next day, the terrible lady at the dest would NOT let me pay for my car. The horrible lady at the desk repeated a few times "No we do not have the man power or trucks today". I asked her (ugly lady) if it was burried in the back or something, she replied with a no. I asked again "how much do I owe you?" of course her answer was again "No we do not have the man power or trucks today" I finally asked "Are you telling me I can not get my car today" Terrible lady replied "no you cant" I went outside and it hit me this lady thinks I want her crappy company to tow my car home. On my way to Ann Arbor I had made arrangements for my car to be picked up and towed back to my house. I NEVER once asked brewers to tow my car back to my home, NEVER inquired about that. My only questions were "how much do I owe and where is my car". I went back inside & inormed the thing at the dest that I had a tow company on the way so how much do I owe you. In the end Brewers caraged me $572 for less then 5 mile tow. I had tow company from Warren go to Ann Arbor, pick up my car and drive it to Mt Clemens for $375. I am normally a level headed person when it comes to expectations for services received from a company. I am not sure what type of relationship that this towing company has with the local government but this is the first time I can honestly say that a company that I have dealt with made me feel like I was dealing with the mob. My kid is a student and just had to deal with her first accident due to weather. Any person who has received a call like that knows the fear that goes thru you. We immediately went into action calling our insurance company to get a tow truck out but she was told by the people on site that they had already called a company and they were on their way to pick up the car. This company, Brewer's, picked up the car and took it to their location where they store cars. This whole process took them less than 45 min. That is how close they were to their storage. The total charge for everything was over 500.00.... closer to 600 range. The car was in their care for less than 24 hours. This whole process felt like you were dealing with shady people from the beginning to the end. I don't know what kind of "relationship" that this company has with Superior Township, where the accident happened, but like I said before... it felt like the whole process made you want to take a shower. Bonus info. If you have a car that needs to be picked up to be taken to a shop for repair they will charge you $150 for you to have another tow company to pick up your car that you have almost paid 600.00 dollars for. read more

I really detest Brewer's because they do their job so well. They have definitely towed my car a few times, and it cost me hundreds of bones to get it out from their possession. They seriously do not mess around. I saw a guy go up to the towing dude as he was hooking his car up, and the towing guy refused to not tow his car. "Rules are, once it's hooked, there's no turning back." The best thing they ever did was not tow my car when I called them to ask them to tow it to the nearest Firestone so I could replace my four flat tires. Instead they wanted to save me money so they towed me to the nearest gas station so I could fill my tires up with air. Eventually, the police had my car towed by Brewer's for "abandonment" (leaving it parked in the same spot for more than 48 hours). When I went to Brewer's to re-claim my beautiful '98 Buick Regal, they told me it would be something like $600! But they said that they would knock off a couple hundred if they could keep my car. So, guess what? I wound up paying THEM $400 so they could keep MY car. That's why I love Brewer's. read more

This review is for the mechanic/repair work that Brewer's can also do, not for their towing services. One word: Nope. Don't even think about taking your car here for repairs. Just don't do it. They charge outrageous rates and try to sell you services that are unnecessary. I had been going to them for a couple years before now on a friend's recommendation when I needed to get my radiator fixed. I kept going back for oil changes and other work (broken headlights, etc.) but nothing too major came up while I was in Ann Arbor, until recently. I took my car in because I suspected something was wrong with either the transmission or the brakes. After keeping my car for a day, I got a call saying that I needed my front brakes replaced. I told Jim that I would come by the next day to pick up my car (implied: driving it off the property). When I arrived, it was still on the hoist, so I had to wait 10 minutes for them to put the wheels back on and get it back on the ground. 10 minutes later, Jim comes back and says he may have rendered my vehicle undrive-able. I gave him an hour to see if he could fix it (while I fumed), and when I came back 90 minutes later, I was able to drive it off the lot with an estimate in hand. They were going to charge me $881 to replace my front brakes: rotors, pads, calipers, hoses, everything. They also charged me $85 for just looking at it. I sought the opinions of three other mechanics (who all inspected it FOR FREE), and two of them agree that my brakes are just fine. STAY AWAY from Brewer's. read more

So, the truck that I've been driving for the past few months while I shop for a more economical compact vehicle died last night on the highway. The radio lost power, the headlights and dashboard lights turned off, my speedometer wasn't responsive, I couldn't even roll my windows down or use the windshield wipers! Obviously, this is a pretty scary experience, but I was able to safely guide it off the road and opted to call AAA in the morning to get it towed back to the house where we can replace the alternator ourselves. They assured me I would be able to get it towed in the morning for free, so I went to bed with some of the stresses of the drive put to rest. I called AAA this morning and they told me it would be Brewer's doing the towing, that they would be there in roughly 45 minutes, and I requested that Brewer's give me a ring when they were on their way to pick up the truck so that I could meet them over there. 15 minutes later, I get a call from their dispatch lady (who was pretty much the only reason I'm giving this place more than one star) saying the driver was at the truck and where was I? I explained that I was expecting a call and asked if AAA relayed that aspect to them when the service call was initially placed. She said no, that AAA was notorious for not following through on things like that. I lamented with her for a moment on that, and said I would be able to be there in about 10 minutes. Well, obviously I had to get Dan's roommate up to drive me over to the spot, and once he was roused and on the road, I received another call, this time from the driver. He very rudely asked where I was. I explained that I was on route and (clearly) relying on others for transportation, so I apologized for my lateness. I also tossed in there that I was supposed to receive a call prior to his arrival to avoid this situation in the first place. He shortly asked how far away I was to which I honestly responded 5 minutes. He came back with, "yeah, you told my dispatch it would be 10 minutes and it's been 10 minutes and you haven't shown up yet." Insert expletive. RUDE! It truly wasn't my fault, and I was extremely apologetic about the mix-up even though it happened between AAA and the dispatch center. We showed up to the truck already being lifted onto the tow and I popped up in the cab with the driver. Despite his inexplicable rudeness during the phone call, he was still performing a service for me, so I tried to be friendly and polite by starting up some chit chat. Needless to say, he was not a willing participant and we rode the majority of the short trip in silence. So, yes they were there quickly and the dispatch lady was at least understanding of my particular situation. However, I will absolutely refuse to use their services again, even if it means waiting longer for a different tow truck. That is inexcusable. You drive a tow truck! Your whole job is to help people get out of the crappy situation that is having their car die on the side of the road. To be so callous, rude and sour to customers is a surefire way to put any service company under. read more

This was by far the most pleasant towing experience I've ever had! Michael was great! Before he towed my vehicle, he made several attempts to het it started. He had great energy and made the entire ordeal stress free! I will be using Brewers for my towing needs from now on and I would highly recommend them to others. Yeah it always sucks getting your car towed, but their receptionist Emily is actually really nice. She was friendly, talkative, and knew what she was talking about, which I think is pretty hard to do when you're working at a place where people are pissed at you every day. Nobody really likes having a car towed- it's usually under trying circumstances. But Brewer's has made it fairly painless. I totaled my Prizm a little under two years ago, and it was taken to Brewer's junk yard. They made it easy for me to pick up my keys, which I needed to get back to my insurance company, and were friendly and helpful when I asked to retrieve some belongings from the trunk and glovebox of my car before it was junked for good. I had a good enough experience with them that they'd be first on my list if I had car trouble and needed a tow to a local mechanic. read more

Just call Nationwide instead!!! God awful service over the phone, I called to get my car towed from a shop in Ann Arbor to my house. Whoever answered the phone told me I had to be on site when they get the car (good thing I have more than one car right) the conversation even ended with "we'll see you then" after she told they'll be there within the hour. So I drive 40 minutes to the shop and wait, after an hour and 10 minutes go by (total)I called them again for en ETA. The same woman answered the phone, said she's never talked to me, I said "I called you an hour ago, you told me I had to be here, and you said your guy would be here within the hour" she responds "I didn't take down your information I thought you would call me when you got there" (even though that was never once mentioned) I've had multiple tows where all of the pay, logistics, and information was handled by the drivers on site and I've had tows where it's all over the phone. Called Nationwide (another tow company just up the road from them) a professional answered the phone who quickly and efficiently handled the entire process and I didn't need to be there at the time of pick up either. It was a tough day on M-14 outside of Ann Arbor, with bad weather and numerous slide-offs on the freeway. So, it understandably took significantly longer than predicted for the truck to come, but the young man who arrived to rescue me was personable, polite, helpful and efficient --despite the fact that he was wet, cold, and already tired at 2:00 p.m. If this is the kind of person they hire to do their emergency roadside service, I'd call them again in a heartbeat. read more

So, I call Brewers to find out what the damages are and they quote me an amount of $245.00 for the tow and one night's storage/hostage fee. Groovy. The guy, Dylan, was so incredibly nice and helpful. He even offered me a ride back into town because he was headed that way. After wrecking a car, Brewer's refused to let me access my trunk (claiming liability purposes.) The trunk contained several thousands of dollars worth of audio equipment. The company assured me that they would unload the trunk and call me when my possessions were available for pickup. Several days later, I was informed that this equipment had been "donated." I had an awesome experience with the two service men that showed up to my house. Kevin and Rodney were so thoughtful and very careful. Kevin said to me, after I commented on how appreciative I was of their care of me, that he endeavors to treat each customer as though they are family. I felt that from the very moment he stepped out of the truck. Even though my problem was not able to be resolved with a jump Kevin attempted to help me find a solution to the situation. Don't use this company for voluntary towing. While visiting our son and parking in his Apartments private lot, our car was towed while we were out. Admittedly, we did not have a permit for the parking. But nobody in the Multi apartment house called to complain, there were open spots, our son was entitled to one but did not even have a car on campus. Again, nobody complained. Instead, the property management company had an agreement with Brewers that they can troll the private parking and tow at will. Although we were frustrated by the towing, our real problem came when we went to redeem our vehicle. We were verbally and nearly physically assaulted by Brewer employee, Ed, when we tried to understand why and who authorized the towing. We did not realize that Brewers could tow without even receiving a complaint. Ed was belligerent, unprofessional, intimidating, and threatening. He lunged at us, pointed fingers in our face and the F word was a personal favorite of his. Can't really do anything about the $255 we had to pay to get our car out, but wanted to pass the word that this company has questionable business practices and volatile employees. If I actually voluntarily needed a towing company, I would stay away from this company. read more

Absolutely worst experience I have EVER had with a business. I work in customer service, and how I was talked to was appalling! They have no sympathy for the fact that people are stressed and irritated during situations and instead will insult you, yell at you, and treat you like you are scum. After towing the car literally 5 minutes before we got to the parking spot, we called and explained we had a child, wasn't from the area so had no idea where they were. We had no ride or extra money to pay for a cab, their response? To yell, not let us get a word in, and hang up on us. Forcing my child and I to walk 45 minutes, only to call the police on us when we got there because we were upset and raising our voice (never called anyone a name btw), and try and tell us they won't accept our credit card only cash because the lady was apparently butt hurt that we were upset with how they handle business. Regardless, once the owner came out it calmed down and they let us use the card and get my car. But by far the worst service I've ever experienced in my life. Avoid them at all cost!!! read more

This company just wants your money out of your pocket! I helped my son to unload his stuffs to Courtyard Student Aparment. We parked the car at their parking lot for less than 10min to help my son moving a box of books and cloths. Somehow Brewer's acts fast enough to tow the car to his BP gas station across the street. When we get the station the towing car still inside the lot. We explained the situation, but they still charged $180 ($120 towing fee+$40 administration fee+$20 storage fee). I have AAA and they called Brewers twice in the last month to help with a dead battery. In both instances, I waited and then called after the time they were supposed to be at the house. I was told that it would be another 10-20 minutes. The first time, it got so late that I called a cab to get to work. The second time, I hopped ride with a neighbor.
