Great brewery! The service was attentive and ambiance was brewery-typical with outside seating in the shade. Love the meads!

Great place to meet with friends or watch the game. I had a flight, and these were the biggest pours I've ever seen on a flight very filling. Good variety of pours to choose from if you are not sure what you like there. My only concern I had was that they shared the restroom with another bar next door, and the other place was a bit rowdy. Going to the back for the restroom, I saw a lot of people hanging out and being loud. As a female, take someone with you to the restroom if you see a crowd hanging out by it just for safety.

The short - cool spot that offers a variety of ales/IPAs. There's a couple of lighter beers to choose from, but Rockfish seems to tailor primarily for those that enjoy ales, so I would check their menu beforehand in case to make sure you have to drinks that sound good to you. The bartender was very nice and knowledgable on the questions we had about their selection. The venue was relatively small, so I could see it filling up quick during busy hours. They also have seating outside under a canopy, but I could see that getting uncomfortable on a hot day (I didn't see a fan or cooling unit). They do have food options at the location like pizza, pretzels, nuts, and basic accommodations and there's a small selection of party games to pick from if you want to play with a group. Rockfish is a cool brewery tucked away from the main downtown of Charlottesville and shares a space with some kind of plant store. I'd recommend checking it out!

Quaint spot with good beer and both indoor and outdoor seating. I loved that they offer flights. I had a light farmhouse ale and three IPAs that were all good. They have a couple of games. The bartender who served us was super nice and knowledgeable. It's connected to a plant shop and they share a single stall bathroom.

Small relaxed brewery with a long bar. Great place to try some beers so I had a flight. Solid beer lineup, the dark lager and NE IPA were my favorites

A most excellent Porter. Deep, syrupy and flavorful but not on the bitter end. Enjoyed at the first sip and at its last My first visit to Rockfish. Asked the bartender to pick amongst the broad and interesting list, and he narrowed it to their lager and porter and offered the decision back to me. I doubt a bad choice anywhere on the list. Adding it to mine, of local breweries that warrant a methodical and thirsty return .

A very underrated brewery in Charlottesville. Thankfully for us fans, they are opening another location on the downtown mall. I think this will help get them more of the respect they deserve. There really isn't a bad beer in the portfolio. Their New England IPA is my current favorite. Their Witbier also is at the top of my list. I enjoy the food trucks they have at their Preston location. Typically there is something for everyone. Pizza has been a big hit recently. They have outdoor seating, great for bringing the pups. The seating is covered and heated during the winter. They have a few spots in the lot in front of the brewery. There are some street spots as well. When Fifth Season is closed next door, you can use their spots as well. Now excuse me while I had downtown to check out their new location.

Rockfish is a nano brewery so seating inside and outside is limited. I tried a flight of 4 (you can choose 4-8 5oz beers for $7-$13), I chose the New England IPA, Strawberry Pineapple Gose, American Pale Ale and West Coast IPA. My husband ordered a pint of the California Common. The beer was good, my favorites were the IPAs. I think that this spot is worth checking out if you are in the area.

Salmon tacos were so flavorful and the ingredients were so fresh you could taste them individually. The Gose drinking tasted so good, almost like a hard cider but way better.

I can always find something I like on tap at Rockfish. Big fan of their English Brown Ale. I appreciate their Kellerbier and New England IPA as well. Typically have something sour like their Banana Passionfruit Gose on tap as well. Definitely something for everyone. Super friendly owner and staff. Can't wait until their new location opens Downtown.

They know beer. Great old school bar where the quality of the beer is first priority. Bountiful variety of brews. I tried the sour and the red ale. Both were perfect in flavor, hop and distinction. I was there at a YELP party. Otherwise, I may not have discovered this beer lovers find. Thank you YELP (John) for another great discovery.

My Wahoo daughter brought me here during Family Weekend, and now I totally get why this place is a UVA favorite. The building itself is part of a beautifully restored historic industrial complex off Preston Avenue. It's an adaptive-reuse space (formerly part of the old Coca-Cola bottling works), and the design keeps that industrial character alive: tall ceilings, exposed materials, and a layout that feels open, social, and easygoing. The outdoor area is especially smartly done. They've got roll-down fabric walls and overhead heat lamps that keep the patio comfortable even when the temperature dips. It's basically an all-weather beer-garden vibe, and it works. Here's how our meal went down: * Shared starter: the Jumbo Bavarian Pretzel. Warm, soft, perfectly salted, and killer with both the mustard and the cheese sauce. * My entrée: the Local Steak Salad -- gorgeous presentation, tender grass-fed beef, and those pickled turnips, radish slices, and greens in herb buttermilk dressing absolutely tied it together. * My daughter's entrée: Bratwurst, which disappeared quickly, so that tells you what you need to know. Service setup is counter-service for food with table drop-off, and drinks are ordered directly at the bar. It's efficient, friendly, and gives the whole place an easygoing "European beer hall meets Charlottesville neighborhood spot" feel. Kardinal Hall is one of those places where good food, good architecture, and good energy all line up. If you're in town -- especially visiting UVA -- this is a must-stop.

This was a fabulous evening, arriving at around 5:30 pm to a packed parking lot but the inside was not at all busy. Mrs. K. and I chose our drinks and meals. I very much enjoyed my Very Italian Pilsner and later the Lemicky Light Lager. We dove into a Cowboy Bill Burger, onion rings, cheese curds and perfectly seasoned fries. It was all the food groups and delicious. I'd say my only complaint is that they closed this evening at 8. If they were open until 9, I would have stayed longer and had another beer. Still, it was a lovely time and an easy five star review. [Review 1106 of 2026 - 1555 in Virginia - 26285 overall]

The bun was hard and broken. Wife felt that she should have returned it and was way overpriced. The inside beer area was clean and roomy but very loud. You can order at the counter or by scanning a QR code from the tables. It was our first time, so we had some questions, which the server patiently answered. He was just delightful- friendly and knowledgeable about the food and the drinks they had on tap. Food was brought to the table as quickly as possible- they cook to order, and we had burgers, a chicken sandwich, and schnitzel platters. The burger people complained a bit about the buns being so big and making it hard to eat, but they were happy with the sandwiches overall. The chips that came with were delicious- not at all greasy, and nicely salted. The schnitzel comes with two sides. One had a salad and fries, the other coleslaw and warm German potato salad. The fries were hot, crispy, and properly seasoned, and the coleslaw and side salad were pretty standard. The potato salad stole the show- warm, baconey, and vinegar forward. Just excellent. The schnitzels were tender and nicely breaded, exactly right. The gravy on the side was peppery, but nothing special. The only disappointment was the bottled horseradish mustard on the table, which had no horseradish or mustard flavor. I wish they had a German mustard or even a spicy deli mustard on the table. Drinks- they have lots of beer, cider, and wine choices on tap, but for non alcoholic and soft drinks only cans or bottles of Boylans. I really appreciated that they have self serve ice water. I wish they had a couple nonalcoholic beers or ciders on tap. Overall, this is a fun restaurant. The pork shanks they were preparing for the evening special looked spectacular, so next time we'll come in the evening!

The main area is mostly open seating around a few games -- it was an autumn night, and inside, there's actually not much game stuff. A karaoke stage, a pool table, a few video games. You get your food here. Like I said, I expected instant food and for it to taste like it came out if the microwave. It took about fifteen minutes, maybe a bit more, and I was feeling annoyed. Then it came out. This is not food that is prepared instantly. And it's really GOOD. I ordered Buffalo wings, and ... I'm a bit of a wing snob. I'm not exaggerating when I say these were among the best wings I've ever had. Crispy, perfectly cooked, moist inside, and just the right spice with good flavour? Yum! The nachos, fully loaded, were good, though perhaps not as distributed as could be. But, also a good variety of tops, and everything tasty. The cheese curds were also good, though I thought the marinara was a bit of a downer. Guys, Russian dressing, spicy mayo, tiger sauce... marinara is for mozz sticks. Whatever. They're still good. While it was cool out, I spent some time checking out the outdoors area. There's some fire pits, more karaoke, and the bulk of the games. It would be a lot more fun on a nice night, but it was chilly and I bailed early.
