YUM! We stopped in for what I thought would be a light dinner but I did not realize the portion sizes or the flavor would keep me eating more than i intended. My husband and I split the nachos, and I ordered the tomato bisque and grilled cheese. The nachos were HUGE - like 6 people could have easily shared them - but they were so good, completely loaded with cheese, salsa, pickled onions and jalapenos, beans, and grilled chicken. We barely put a dent in them but not for lack of trying. The grilled cheese and soup were also really tasty. I wish I was less full and able to enjoy it more. I guarantee we would've spent some good money in there as tourists if they were open. Also it'd be helpful if they had some sort of signage to say "wait to be seated" or something. This is truly a hidden gem in the little mountain town of Nellysford! In the area for a day at Wintergreen, we were looking for a fun place to dine. We walked in and were immediately seated by a friendly and attentive employee. We ordered water (we are not alcohol drinkers) and just want to say: that water was delicious! It tasted like it was fresh from a mountain stream. For food, we ordered handhelds- two scrumptious hamburgers that both came with a surprisingly abundant side salad. The Minute-Man Marinated pickles were so salty and yummy on the saucy burger, and the honey mustard dressing for the swas among the best I've ever had! Portion sizes were great- more than decent amount of food for price- and the price was good as well. They served our food in a pretty fast manner considering how specific we had made our orders. Additionally, the enclosed patio seating was wonderful! Pretty mountain views surrounded us, and we greatly enjoyed looking at the fish pond, mini "gristmill", and more as we ate our burgers. Located on the long stretch of road home to a dozen breweries, wineries, cideries in Roseland, VA, Three Notch'd offers brewery hoppers a great place to grab a bite between pints. The restaurant sits on a large property that not only houses the main beer hall style restaurant, but a gift shop, axe throwing, a playground and an outdoor patio w/ lawn games. This in itself makes Three Notched a great place to spend a few hours to break up the brewery crawl monotony. Inside the beer hall, they have both ample bar seating as well as sit down tables for groups both large and small. Service: 5/5. The staff at Three Notch'd did an amazing job in catering to our large group of 21 hungry campers. I reached out to Three Notched a few weeks prior to our brunch date inquiring about a large group reservation. The sales and events manager, Dalton, was quick to reply and got us squared away for brunch. Fast forward several weeks later, we arrived promptly at our 12:30pm time slot and the staff had all of our tables ready to go, with fresh pitchers of ice water poured out and waiting. Our server did a fantastic job keeping up with the demands of our large group, taking a barrage of drink and food orders with ease. Props to both the kitchen and bar staff who were able to get all of our food out quickly and relatively at the same time, a challenging feat with a group this size to say the least! Food/Drinks: 5/5. We loved every bite! Three Notch'd has a well thought out menu of elevated bar food with a hint of southern flair. Both the beers on tap as well as the bourbon cocktails were creative and well executed. One particular cocktail, the Smoked Apple, used their bourbon combined with a blend of spices and apple butter to create a wonderfully tasty libation. On the food front, all dishes were generously portioned and hearty in nature to stand up to even the booziest of afternoons. We loved the flaky fish and chips as well as the perfectly cooked burgers (both the mushroom Swiss and pimento varieties). Not a fan. Service was SO slow. Took 15 minutes for them to bring us menus. Took 20 minutes to get drinks. Took another 40 to get our food. The brisket was dry, and the portion was so small for the amount it cost. The bathroom in the main building was broken so you had to walk over to "the lodge" to use the bathrooms there. They were so hot, and the toilet was full of toilet paper. It was also leaking water all over the floor so I left the bathroom with my shoes soaking. It also smelled so bad in there. read more

Food (4/5): It's elevated pub food at best....but still pretty good. It's hard to find decent food in Nelson County so it's good for this area. We had the mushroom Swiss burger, which was cooked to juicy medium rare perfection with Swiss cheese sauce. Not a fan at all now. Staff rest their feet on shelves next to bar glasses that they serve you in which is health hazard. Waitresses quick to tell you that all that come there are alcoholics and pot heads. And flat out tell you they're pot heads themselves. Very rude and very quick to be argumentative when you point things out to them or have concerns with your bill and not charged correctly. Cody who was playing role of manager is quick to throw tantrum when being confronted by a customer. No customer service at all when it comes to him and talking behind a customers back saying we're going to regret it for speaking out. We travel all over the US for work and this is by far the worst customer service. Trying to get a hold of corporate, general manager, or owner to discuss issues is a joke. This was one of our stops on our first day of shenanigans on our last trip. We needed food! And more booze. And they completely delivered! We were seated pretty quickly, by a super friendly hostess. Everything was so good. I was afraid the fries would be kind of plain Jane, but they had so much flavor and were melt in your mouth! For drinks we tried the Nelson gold and then the smoked apples. Both were very good. And we got to hop in the little store and grab a 6 pack and a beanie. We wondered around a little and captured a few pics. The view from the back is prettier. What an amazing time had at this establishment! Tucked cozily in the middle of the blue ridge mountains. Open, spacious, vibrant, and welcoming. Farmhouse vibes and a strong family atmosphere. I declare that Three Notch'd Brewery has perfected the IPA with their Minute Man IPA. One of my favorite beers with the perfect mixture of hops that lets you know your drinking an IPA without overpowering the rest of the ingredients. I was also able to sample their Hatchet Head Bourbon which, as a sipping whiskey, rivals most high dollar bourbons. Service was impeccable! Arrived right as they opened (11 AM on a Sunday) and were seated quickly on a beautiful side porch with great lighting by the hostess who then became our server. We had a mid afternoon snack and were very impressed with the totality of the brewery and Cafe. We had chili and the American burger. The chili was very good witj beans (we like beans in our chili), with just a hint of fire. The burger was wonderfully done with bacon? Cheese, marinated pickles, lettuce and tomato on a brioche bun. The burger came with 1 side and I opted for onion rings. The rings were outstanding...battered in a beer batter and served w an aoli and separate queso dipping sauces. So, I am a local and have been to Three Notch'd multiple times. Lots to love but hoping to also provide comments that will also make this an even more awesome venue. Would really enjoy better classic salad options, classic Caesar with chicken, salmon, steak. Not a grilled version. The entree menu is also lacking, big time. How about basic meals to include chicken, steak and fish. Serve those with a house salad and choice of side dish. I feel you try too hard to provide different food options and haven't nailed the basics we want as locals. Have heard this from lots of locals. My wife and I have a favorite brewery on 151 beer trail, but decided to try Three Notch'd knowing they had only been open for about a month. So our expectations were not high. Let me tell you we have found another favorite on the trail! I had the Pitmaster Burger-pulled pork on a smashed burger topped with cheddar cheese, whiskey rings & bbq sauce on a cornbread bun. My wife had That's Clucked Up sandwich-a beer marinated chicken breast with pepper jack cheese, bacon & bbq ranch. We both had fries, hot and crispy, just a little heavy on the salt. I had a beer flight, of the four, the best were the Local Larger and Notorious Stout. My wife doesn't drink beer much so she had a Tropical Twist, a vodka with mango, pineapple & coconut cocktail. Got there about 11:30 on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend. The place was remodeled from the Wild Wolf days. The layout was much improved. Had a good waiter named Logan. We started with a beer tasting. We had time to try a flight. I ordered the brisket sandwich and my wife the three-notched salad. My wife's salad was great and she enjoyed it. My brisket sandwich, however left much to be desired. Don't get me wrong, the taste was great. I loved the cornbread bun. However, the meat was mostly gristle. I almost had to do the caveman thing and take a bite, then cut the meat at my mouth so I didn't pull it all out of the bun. Every piece in the sandwich was like that. This is NOT a brewery, but a restaurant that serves their own beer. 6 months out of the year (cold weather) you'll need a reservation after a day hike for a pint and some nachos.
