Before…read moreour first visit, she struggled with brushing her teeth and would fight me every night, so I was worried about her first dentist visit. Luckily the office is very kid-friendly, and the toys in the waiting room loosened her up before they took us back. Every member of the staff clearly adores kids, and they were great at interacting with her without overwhelming her. She had such a great experience that she was excited to go back for her second visit (and she suddenly liked brushing her teeth, but I'm unsure if that's related to the first visit or just the whims of a 2 year old). Overall I highly recommend the practice. The front office staff is sweet, the hygienists are skilled, and Dr. Loving is helpful and kind. We will keep coming to this office as long as we live in North Austin!

There are not enough words to capture what Loving Pediatric means to our family. My daughter,…read moreyoungest of four kiddos suffered some really challenging medical trauma before she was 2 years old and the memories of that fear and pain lives in her body. She's cured every time she walks into a medical office of ANY type since she was able to communicate. When we walked into the dentist office for the first time it was no different. She was terrified. Dr loving and her team met her in her fear and held her. They have tenderly and patiently nurtured her and helped her rebuild trust not only with her body, but also with her medical providers. Giving her space to ask questions, taking time to show her and patiently moving at a pace where she could engage the courage she needed to step into situations and spaces that felt scary and overwhelming. Including things in her mouth, shots, x-rays, any anything where she felt a loss of control. Today we went in for an emergency visit, she had cracked a molar and turned out she needed a crown. 1 hour later we walked out with a smiling little girl, who she'd maybe two years before the procedure started. She did amazing and she left feeling proud and happy about her new "princess crown" a feat that ONLY happened because of the care and attention that has been provided by Brandy and her team. I can not recommend them enough. I have kids ages 15 - 6 and have had multiple different dental experiences since becoming a mom, hands down THIS IS THE BEST! I wish we had known about her earlier and can guarantee we will be with her as long we she will see my kids. I'm so thankful and feel like they have not only helped instill confidence in my daughter related to her experience at the dentist, but they have truly helped her heal from medical trauma that could have caused anxiety for the rest of her life. The best. Thank y'all so much!

Our family loves this pediatric dentistry practice. The entire experience from the waiting room,…read moreto the cleaning, the exam, and the consultation are as pleasant as possible. The friendly staff know how to skillfully approach children in a way that builds trust and makes the whole visit a fun adventure. I should mention that my expectations may be different than some other parents because I have worked in the pediatric oral health field and I have met most of the dentists in the Austin area, even observing their chair-side manner. There are many competent dentists around town that will get the job done but won't make your child eager to return for the next dental exam. Not so at Dr. Sherwood's office, where the staff take great effort to make the experience entertaining, personal, and educational. My child loves the variety of diversions in the uncrowded waiting area like the ride-on pony, the assortment of toys, and the multiple video game systems. When his cleaning and exam are over, he wants to stay for a while longer in the waiting room just to continue to explore all of the fun activities there. Speaking of waiting, I really appreciate that our hygienist comes to fetch us right on time and the dentist performs the exam very shortly afterward. I feel like there is much less waiting around than I experience with my own dentist, and that's really helpful when dealing with a fidgety child and a busy school/work schedule. We haven't had to deal with any cavities or dental emergencies yet, but if and when we do, I feel at ease knowing that we'll be going for treatment to an office my child already loves. The other reviewers are right when they talk about the financial arrangements. This modern practice, like most others in dentistry (which operates on a different business model from most of the rest of healthcare), makes it very clear about the expectation for payment and the penalties for no-shows. Unless you go to one of those strip mall chain places or a well-established practice (by an older dentist with no debt, low overhead, and very few amenities or new equipment), dental care is simply expensive. Our family is fortunate to have very good dental coverage, but even then, we pay some out of pocket expenses for our visits here. That's okay by me now, but if I were on a limited budget, I might not choose this office. Tip: Before you go, check out the website and download the new patient forms.

We were concerned because of the stories of overdiagnosis and unnecessary frenectomies and went all around Austin talking to IBCLCs, PTs, SLPs and pediatric dentists and felt like we couldn't get consistent and straight answers out of anyone about our daughter's specific case and what options we had - whether we wanted to do the frenectomy or not. Enter Dr Poplin, who was incredible - talking my wife and I through our anxieties and concerns, showing us clearly how the tongue and lip tie was affecting our daughter, and giving us options on the path forward. We never felt pressured, only educated on everything we needed to hear to feel confident doing the procedure, even having their own in office IBCLC Naomi to answer the feeding side of things. Dr Poplin did the procedure and took us through the aftercare with exceptional care and follow ups with us as our little one recovered. It's very rare that you find someone so experienced and thoughtful of the entire experience - the baby, the parents and the recovery process. If you're even considering a tongue or lip tie and want an honest and experienced perspective, Dr Poplin and his staff are the absolute best. There's no one else I would trust more!

My first experience with this place was with Dr Najy K Zarroug, and from the start it was off. Last time I had any dental work done was done by my regular dentist (he's since moved to San Antonio) and he did it all in-house. The cleaning, root canal, cavity, tooth extraction and crown. This time around, my current main dentist cleaned my teeth and sent me to a root canal doc who also prepared a crown, then I went back to my regular dentist to put on the crown, I then sent to an oral surgeon who charged for a pretreatment meeting followed by the day he took two teeth out. Badly. Upfront I let them know I'm terrified by the dentist. The root canal doc prior to seeing him and my former dentist all have enough shots that I stay pain free but from the start Dr. Zarroug wasn't having it. He kept going repeatedly without providing more pain relief, my demeanor in the chair (scared and begging) was upsetting him at one point angerly saying 'I should have had you put to sleep for this!' Which didn't help calm me down. He eventually gave me a few more shots but there wasn't much at that point left. We left and about two hours later I was out of the gauze he'd sent me home with in case of bleeding from the wound. At this point the bottom part of my jaw was literally just full of blood and literally overflowing onto my face. Driving back in the car the smell of raw fresh blood was thick in the air. I got back and pretty hysterically demanded help from anyone but him, I was forced to deal with him again as he was the only doctor there, and he gave some excuse about only using 1 stitch to hold the spot where two back teeth had been in order to get me out of the chair faster as I was clearly upset. He sort of apologized while blaming me for my attitude and for general squirming. He eventually, with the help of another employee, gave me more pain management shots and sewed in 4 more stitches and I left, swearing never to return. I swore I'd do the two teeth left on the other side somewhere else but my main dentist shared that a member of his family had a horrible experience with Dr Zarroug and asked me to use the other surgeon there whom his family member liked Dr Andrea Quarroni. I gave in as I was in a place where I had to do something because the situation had gotten so bad so I went back. The new doctor was super kind and gentle and we set it up. I told him about my poor experience prior focusing on the bleeding and my fear of dentists. I trusted him very much We decided to knock me out which was the right choice and I still stand by that, but afterwards I was back at home it began again. Less than 2 hours later my mouth was full. It seems the doctor that day did one thread into 3 stitches (I don't get it either) but again two hours later when I was told it would have bleeding it's again pouring blood and I'm now on the phone with the after hours regarding my bleeding which won't stop trying all the tricks he suggested (tea bags on the wound, doubling my gauze and keeping it on for 30 mins and repeating that for 30 more mins after) He offered to see me tonight in his office 30 mins away sharing he'd had other incidents involving this clinic prior. I'm going to try to keep gauze on it (it becomes saturated within 15 mins) and return to another dentist tomorrow. While Dr Quaroni was much kinder and such I feel he dropped the ball with my stitches. He was told of my bleeding issues and still there's another bleeding issue. This place is VERY pay us now, hardcore when it comes to getting paid so I'd expect the pre-paid services to be quality, maybe it's because they know if they billed people they'd never get paid. On that same topic of them wanting to be paid so badly but who pays for my pain and suffering as blood runs literally from my mouth 12 hours later, are they gonna pay for my gas if I have to drive 30 minutes in the middle of the night... Avoid this place especially the location on 38th at all costs! Between my two trips there, and now the stories from my own dentist and the on call dentist it seems like you'll be avoiding a regrettable decision!
