I called Brian a few times to do some trimming and take down a few trees. He came out, explained the scope of work to me and we agreed on price. After I saw what he was truly capable of I asked him to take down a tree in a congested space where it had a high potential for damage to the house, stairs and other plants. He put the tree right where he wanted it. Brian knows his stuff. Don't call him if you want someone to hack up your rental property, and leave a mess. He's a professional who can explain diseases, infestation, future growth, remediation, treatment and proper pruning. Not to mention limb sniper. I'm still dumbfounded how he puts on all the gear and ropes himself up into the canopy without spikes. Another thing I learned from him. Spikes are an easy way to climb but provide an entrance for the aforementioned risks to your trees. I had a great time talking with him about all the stuff in my yard I pointed at. Thin skinned, as another reviewer reported? You bet. And beyond that -- Disrespectful. I previously engaged Brian Humble to trim several ornamental trees on our property, and based on our satisfaction with his work, I asked Brian to take a look at a very large, ailing (non-ornamental) tree on one of our rental properties. I feared we needed to remove the old tree, which Brian confirmed was the right thing to do. He quoted the removal and stump grinding and I scheduled the job with him. I did not seek other estimates, as I was comfortable engaging Brian again. Yesterday I mentioned the unfortunate old tree to our weekly landscaper, who also mows, blows and trims the rental property, and he advised me that he and his team could do the tree removal. I had not thought they did this type of work (which also is why I had previously engaged Brian to work on several trees.) The landscaper quoted me for the removal and stump grinding on the spot, and his quote was less than half what Brian had quoted ($1,200 versus $2,850). The landscaper also committed to complete the work in 1 day, whereas Brian had estimated 3 days, working alone. This would be much less disruptive to the tenant, who works from home. I quickly reverted to Brian today to request that he remove us from the schedule (with 11 days advance notice) as we'd received a significantly lower quote and time estimate for removal. Brian's response: "Oh wow, It would have been considerate to let me know you were getting other estimates instead of telling me I got the job because I wouldn't have blocked those days out for you. I'm going to pass on future jobs. Take care Beth!!" I clarified for Brian that I had not sought other quotes, and it is true that I did not know our landscaper performed tree removals. It's also apparent to me now, that you don't need an arborist to remove a tree; there are less specialized workers who can remove a tree for a significantly lower price, and potentially more rapidly. That all said, I had not wanted to insult an arborist (Brian) by asking him to do the work for less than half his rate. I did not hear back from Brian, after attempting to address his concern in a kind manner, adding to my disappointment. No one should make an earnest, forthright customer feel judged and unappreciated -- and state his intent not to do business again? Just be on your way, for goodness sake, if you must have it be so. I have used Brian to take care of the trees on my property since moving into my new house two years ago. I have a variety of fruit, nut, and non-producing trees. Brian climbs into and hand prunes the trees, leaving them not only looking amazing, but happy and healthy! Our citrus trees have been getting out of control with all the rain we have been getting, and every time he trims them they end up looking perfect while still bearing tons of fruit! He has a talent for sculpting trees to not only look great, but flourish. I also trust his Arborist knowledge and ability to give honest assessments about the health and risks posed by the trees on the property, and work with him to plan what to do with my trees as they potentially become problematic. read more

Brian is my go-to arborist for all jobs, both big and small! He has no issues climbing into trees to trim pesky limbs, or taking the tree out entirely. He's also great with identifying tree health and has shown he's super knowledgeable. Brian is fantastic! -There are many gardeners round about who offer to trim my mature trees... but they are not Arborists with the knowledge and expertise to focus on their growth, shape and health, which Brian has constantly displayed. Arborists work WITH the environment - not in spite of it! -Brian has the honesty to be upfront with what really needs to be done and what can wait till when. -He also lives up to his name - he's "humble!" I ask a lot of questions and he always patiently shares what he knows, and if he doesn't have an answer, he doesn't shy away from saying it. -His work ethic is superb: he is prompt in responding to any requests, works really hard and sticks to the job till it's done, and cleanup is spotless. -Overall he has integrity in doing the best job he can. I have a 50 year old tree. It had a major broken branch. Brian came and took a look. He was polite and on time. His estimate was very reasonable. We scheduled the service. The day of service he was on time. Took care of the tree like it was his own. He cleaned up after himself and the area looked better than when he arrived. I received the referral for Brian from a friend of mine. He had been caring for her trees for years: maintenance, fertilizing, trimming, etc. He's a certified arborist so he doesn't just cut and trim, he works on the health of the tree. Unreliable and thin skinned: After I drove for 40 minutes to meet him I found he had blown off my appointment and when I called he said he would come now. But 'now' seemed to come after a lengthy explanation of how he thought he had an appointment, but he couldn't find it and... After some of this I sad, "Just come." He said, "Now I won't come. Good-bye." If you have a 4-year-old this will sound familiar. I'd look elsewhere. read more
