He also offered clear explanations about why the work would best be done a certain way. When it came to the work itself, his crew was outstanding. They arrived on time, kept on schedule, and cleaned up the site at the end of every work day. I have never seen such an organized, well managed job site. They were truly exemplary in all respects, but especially in regards to the quality of their work. When it comes time to replace my fence, my patio cover, or my driveway, I will definitely call Michael.

He explained the entire process ahead of time and gave me detailed guidance about the watering schedule, mowing schedule, and recommended equipment for maintaining the new lawn. The crew was amazing--efficient, professional, polite, and extremely hardworking. Carlos, the crew lead, was especially impressive. He is calm, knowledgeable, and very detail-oriented. He listened carefully to every concern I had and made sure everything was addressed properly. The project was completed ahead of schedule, and they even installed a fence that we provided to protect the new lawn from foot traffic and our dog while it gets established. The finished lawn looks absolutely beautiful. The new sprinkler system is quiet, efficient, and works perfectly. They used new, quality materials and clearly did not cut corners anywhere in the project. After comparing several companies and estimates, I am very happy that we chose Pacific Landscaping and Maintenance. We received a better, more complete project at a very competitive price. Some things I wish I knew then that I know now might help others when planning their yards. Yes, Smart Landscape does a lovely job. Here's what would have made my upkeep a lot easier. 1. Extra protection ground cover to eliminate weeds. Some yards get no weeds because a super heavy cover has been used. I've spent countless hours pulling weeds since yards were done. 2. Go over what plants are going to be used. If I'd done that, I would've saved money and work to remove those that had needles that made it difficult/dangerous to remove. 3. If the designer had visited front yard, he would have seen the slight slope and the DG pathway would not have been a logical design choice. Rain washes it away and I'll have to eventually figure out a way to close up that space. 4. At that time, I didn't meet with the designer. I should have. Although it's a lovely design, I would have pointed out a change or two I'd have preferred. 5. Gray DG is not readily available and it has been difficult to keep the pathway refreshed. Someone said that he was going to provide it, but never did. Overall, I am glad I hired Smart Landscape. UPDATE: I needed to come back to add another star after carefully considering how wonderful Danny and his team are to work with. I had met with no fewer than nine landscape companies before Smart Landscape and they were nightmares for various reasons. Danny is wonderful to work with and makes sure the customer is happy.

Dear Southern California: I want to start out by saying that there is no way on this planet - not in this lifetime - for this gentleman, Mr. Tom Cramer, to receive anything other than a first-rate glowing report on every level. I just noticed 2 reviews and I would bet everything I own - if I only could - including my beloved beautiful home in Clairemont (92117) that those horrible reviews are completely bogus and possibly even written by jealous competitors..... In all my years and I'm 63 years old I'd have to think long and hard to recall meeting a more excellent person. Manners wise - he's as humble and personable as they come. Skills wise - there is no better tree guy in the country. Period. I'd put Tom's skills up against any person in the land. Shame on the guys who fear him and/or his excellence. The way to handle jealously is to go out and improve your own skills and show respect to the guys who worked hard, kept their nose clean, and made something of themselves. I called Tom recently because our ficus tree was gigantic and bothering every neighbor who could see it. I loved it, but that's beside the point. I wanted to try and do the right thing where the neighbors were concerned so I called Tom and within 48 hours - when I asked for it to be done by the way - he cut her down. I watched every limb and every nuance that was performed on the old tree. Everything has a season and it had had it's day in the sun and was time to make way for some blue San Diego sky! Do yourself a huge favor. Do not even think about calling anyone else - not in San Diego anyway. This is the man and you will know so the second you shake his hand - I promise you. He's honest, good, decent, highly skilled, a wonderful family man, and the hardest worker - as is his crew - in Clairemont for sure and I am certain in the whole of San Diego county. We got an estimate from Tom for removing a very, very tall and wide multi-trunked tree from our front yard and for grinding the significant stump. His bid was not the lowest but we ended up going with him for several reasons: First, he struck us as professional, knowledgeable, and straightforward. Second, he was able to immediately furnish proof of insurance and workman's comp and he was able to clearly explain what he would do and how long it would take. Third, we had a hunch that he would be a man of his word and do the work well and in a timely manner. And, fourth, we sensed that he really would leave our property in good condition once the job was finished. We were correct on all counts! Tom and his crew really know what they are doing. They expertly handled a difficult job without compromising safety or good manners. It was truly a pleasure to work with all of them. It's interesting that the only bad reviews shown here are by folks that never used this business!! We had a large (50 year old, Balboa Park-ish) tree growing from a neighbors house, so large, it spanned into 3 back yards. It was in our phone and electrical lines as well as resting on our rooftop. There were pine needles a foot deep everywhere below the tree. It was a MAJOR project just to get to it, as we have a shed and car being stored right below. Tom made it all seem easy, even though it was a TON of work. Tom was not only the best quote that we received, but the way he and his main trimmer are true arborists. They cut everything so selectively and carefully, and the tree looked sculpted when they were done! Everything was clean and carted away, even some of the pounds of needles that really had nothing to do with his trimming. He and his men went above and beyond. I couldn't agree with Steven P's review more- Tom has a solid business ethic, practice and principles, and will get the job done right, leaving you better off than you expected! read more

We needed a large (40 FT) mexican palm removed from our property that was located in a narrow courtyard and only a few feet from the neighboring condo building. TC was the only certified tree specialist that got back to us with a writen estimate and at what I thought was a great price. His crew was on site ahead of time to do all the setup and then Tom arrived to supervise the removal and stump grinding. It truely amazed me how quick it went considering how big the tree was and had not been trimed or maintained in about 12 years. As you can imagine it made quite a mess with all the sawdust and grinding but his crew made fast work of it all. I cannot say enough about TC Environmental, both Tom and his crew are friendly hardworking guys that do great, safe work. read more

Not only that, his bids are more than fair, and most likely not going to be beat by any other trimmer in town. I needed a full renovation in my backyard, I needed 2 old dead trees removed, new trees instead, my irrigation pipes were broken tree roots destroyed them. TC Environmental removed the dead trees, they also took the stumps out, I got my irrigation system running perfect with new pipes, new trees. Well great service, they took care of everything in a couple of hours, when my wife came home she couldn't believe it, our ugly yard turned into a paradise. Thank you guys. read more

"I choose TC Environmental to remove 2 trees (and stump grinding) and pruned 2 others one quite large. Tom and crew did a fabulous job my trees never looked better. These guys did an awesome job trimming back the volume while maintaining the beauty and integrity of the branch structure. They were also extremely courteous and cleaned up beautifully. He came with his team and were able to trim and prune both the plum and lemon trees, and removed the guava tree which was old, not bearing fruit, was leaning over into our fence, and I was already debating to chop it down to a stump. (The day of the assessment, he inspected the guava tree and said if we just chopped it down, the roots would continue to sprout out more trees --similar to redwood trees and sequoias--and showed me the newly sprouting trees coming out. Yikes! He said in order to get rid of it, we need to remove the roots completely.) We decided to move forward with removing the entire guava tree. Everything they did, they did a fantastic job! Hernan and his team were efficient, professional, polite, and knowledgeable. I highly recommend them with no reservations.
