For the past couple years, as we lived in Atherton, we've been driving across the bridge to our dentist in Castro Valley, but with our location, it's gotten to be such a hassle, and even more difficult finding a clinic with a team that has exceptional customer service. I took a chance with the Dental Center of Atherton and I must've gotten really, really lucky because I genuinely look forward to going to the dentist! The staff at the front like Cassandra and Jamie (sorry if I didn't spell it right) are super cordial, friendly, and overall just the best way to be greeted through the doors. Their customer service is great, which is never appreciated enough, frankly, so I'm happy to acknowledge it every time. Today I had a deep cleaning with Donna, And she was so patient and welcoming and knowledgeable, and you can feel the pride in her work and the happiness it brings her to not only help people with their dental hygiene, but also educate people on her expertise and empower people to have a better understanding of why things happen with our teeth and gums and the best practices to maintaining our oral health. I even requested to see her again specifically, which meant switching around my schedule appointment, because I had such a stellar time with her. I asked many involved questions, and Donna was more than happy to indulge me. Very very happy with the interactions we've had today - I literally got home and got to typing immediately, it could not wait another minute. My very first visit I also met Dr. Fong and Shima/Sheema (so sorry), and it should go without saying at this point, but they were also exceptional in their own right. With the location, being great, and the customer service even better, I'm happy to say that this place ought to have 6 stars. Looking forward to the next appointment! read more

My previous dental work represents my 82 years and some crowns are older than Dr. Becky, but she works to maintain them. I definitely have dental anxiety and low tolerance for pain, so I dread going to the dentist but Dr.Fong and his team have really helped take that fear away. I really appreciate how they take the time to explain what's happening, why, options for me and are quite gentle in their approach overall. I appreciate they ask me holistic questions since dental health is more than just our teeth. Dr.Fong also did a couple of procedures - he walked me through it so I would know what to expect, checked in throughout and they were painless, yay!! Jennifer, my dental hygienist, really does a great job in patiently explaining the process and procedures as well. She's got a great eIQ where she notices any subtle grimace and asks how I'm doing to offer any adjustments she might recommend. It helps me feel assured and safe. I've been going to Dr Fong since 2009 and I will tell you (as I have high standards for all of my well being Drs), Dr Fong IS THE BAR. Why do I say this: 1. He always has the most updated medical equipment on the market and is intentional about having the best for his patients 2. His and his staff's work has always been top quality for me and I've never had issues 3. He won't push you to do something that isn't needed and he will suggest when it is necessary for your well being 4. He is the NICEST most friendly man! 5. Setting appointments is easy. He does get booked up in advance but they always will work with you to find a time that works and will message you if they find a better time that suits you - proactive Dr! 6. Dr. Fong and the two dental hygienists, Jennifer and Sheema, are the best I've worked with. I am so happy I found Dr. Fong and his team! We have been going to Advanced Dentistry for about 3 years now. Dr. Fong has state of the art equipment right on the premises. Dr. Fong is personable and very caring. I do not feel like I'm being upsold when I'm there and my teeth have never been better. In the past, at other dentist offices, the exams were mostly too rough, or too soft. Sheema has the perfect amount of pressure during cleanings that doesn't make me want to avoid coming back. When my mom needed new dentures, Dr. Fong was able to help her. He was gentle and made sure that she was super happy with the fit. Did I mention that the place is so awesome that my kids also love seeing Dr. Fong and also Sheema? Thru my son's recommendation, my wife and I went to Brian's office for her teeth crown work. Dr. Brian is so patient and details oriented, we are both very very happy with her new crown. Brian understood that we came all the way from Walnut Creek CA to Atherton for this work, so he made the crown in his super clean lab while we were there. The new crown also needs to work with her existing denture. During the process, he also identified a cavity with her teeth for the crown work. He fixed the cavity situation too. My wife made a comment that she did not even feel any needle pain while Brian gave her the anesthesia treatment. The office is very new, clean and modern. Thanks much. read more

Went for regular checkup, doctor Fong is good and office seems well equipped. But their cost is very high compared to other dentist in the area if you are out of network. - They were asking 436 per quadrant for deep cleaning which is more than my insurance will cover. - Called other well reviewed dentist in same area who will do it for 300 per quadrant. - I tried to negotiate to the max which my insurance will cover, which will still have meant more co pay for me, but I was okay with it. But their treatment coordinator refused. Now i have to go to second dentist. Very disappointed with their price gouging on pretty standard services. read more

It's been over a year since I saw Dr. Fong and they classified me as a periodontal patient without telling me. As I said in my first review, I got the same basic cleaning I always get at the dentist, and then had to pay extra upon leaving since my insurance would not longer cover the "special" cleaning. After this bad experience, I've found a new dentist and had no issues with my cleaning/insurance covering the full cost. Over a year later, I just got a bill this morning asking for more money. This dentist office often shows up as in network when checking with the insurance company but when you show up at the door they are rarely happy with insurance payment rates and up-charge patients. The rates are high and arbitrary, transparency of charges is poor. Dr. Fong might work in the cases where he truly does take your insurance, but take "accepts insurance" with a grain of salt and expect to pay out of pocket. be careful if you are told to sign a piece of paper that shows you paying out of pocket on top of what insurance pays. The quality of care is not bad, I give him that, in fact its good but I suspect there is some insurance "doctoring" going on here. Be careful. read more

Let's start w/appearance: this office is very nice, clean, and comfortable. Not hard to find. Although, I couldn't find a private parking lot for this office, I had to find street parking. This is the only down side. Staff: Front desk staff was very nice and helpful. I was greeted when I entered. They were great at finding an endodontist that could do a same day root canal for me. Dental Assistant: He was WONDERFUL! He put me at ease, talked to me like a normal person & even made me laugh through my toothache. I am someone who suffered through extremely traumatic dental visits throughout my life. I grew up in the 60's; a time when they would strap you down in the chair, pry your mouth open using some kind of vice contraption to keep it gaped open, and then pull your bad tooth using what seemed like pliers straight out of your dads old tool box. All the while listening to the sound of high impact drills and faint screams in the next room. These horrifying memories kept me away from the dentist for years. I suffered through painful toothaches and even teeth falling out, just to avoid the dentist. After all of the neglect my teeth were in pretty bad shape. I knew I had to face my fear. Enter Dr.Fong. I expressed all my fears and concerns to Dr.Fong during our first visit. He was patient and understanding. I love that he really listens to me and is compassionate about my past trauma. Dr. Fong is extremely kind and never rushes my visits. He takes his time to explain what he's doing and why. His 'chair side' manner is 10/10! I have been going to Dr.Fong regularly over the last 5 years. He has helped me transform my smile into something I've always dreamed of. I have severe periodontal disease, which caused me to lose all of my top teeth. Thankfully, Dr. Fong has helped save the majority of my bottom teeth. I've been looking for a new dentist in my area my other was in San Francisco to far to go now that I'm older and retired. My friend referred me to Dr. Fong and I have to say thank you. The Dr. and staff are wonderful and it's so nice to work with them. I had all my old fillings replaced a crown put on WOW high tech not like the old days. I am also having an implant done. Extremely overpriced and 3 fillings fell out in less than 6 months which they would only replace at full price. Staff is pushy and difficult to deal with. They gave me a "periodontal" check (the DDS just looks in your mouth after a cleaning) and had to pay extra upon leaving since my insurance doesn't cover this and I was not notified of there was a charge. Ludicrous! Never been charged for the dentist just looking in my mouth, no one's worth $360 for two minutes of time. read more

Came to the Bay area and needed a significant amount of bone grafting and other procedures due to a dental implant and other bridge work that had not gone well previously in another state. Though it took 2 years, working with Dr Stephen Yang and Mauricio Ronderos , I had my implants redone and the result is excellent. Real team effort, all are very accommodating. Dr Fong went the extra mild to find my old implant hardware (had been discontinued) and orchestrated the work with oral surgeon and orthodontist. His office staff are great as well. Chalk another one up for a great experience with Dr. Brian Fong. This guy is amazing. I'd just moved further north on the peninsula a few months ago and wanted to find a dentist closer to home. I was fairly certain that I was having a recurrence of a rare and acute form of gingivitis and just need to see a dentist fast to get on antibiotics. The receptionists understood the urgency of my need and got me in the same day. There was a power problem in the office, so the plasma and water fountain were off in the waiting room! It was still beautiful. Dr. Fong was quick to understand my situation and very thorough in establishing a new baseline in the health of my gums so that we could make sure the situation was resolved quickly. He got me on a round of antibiotics and I was good to go. We went ahead and scheduled a routine cleaning for two weeks later. The cleaning went very smoothly and the hygienist was thorough, gentle and sweet. After the cleaning, my exam with Dr. Fong revealed some restorative work we needed to do. Dr. Fong completed the work over two appointments in the following 2 weeks. His state-of-the-art equipment allowed him to create a custom "onlay" to go on the top of one of my decayed teeth while I sat in the chair watching cable. This is a somewhat new procedure that involves a camera, a computer and a machine in the neighboring room that crafts the new fragment. This allows Dr. Fong to avoid destroying healthy bone on the top of the tooth to make room for a whole crown. Dr. Fong was very handy with the Novocain needle. There was hardly even slight pressure and I was slobbering in no time! I went to Dr. Fong at the advice of other Yelpers. I hate going to the dentist. Infact, I put it off for years because I hate the pain and I hate drills and I hate being strapped into a seat. When my teeth got sooooo bad that I actually had to go to the dentist "or else" a friend recommended Dr. Fong's office.... and he did not dissapoint. This place is top notch. When you walk in there are hardwood floors, leather sofas, flat screens TV's, and cute receptionists. The paperwork was a cinch. Every chair is private, you won't be sharing seats or sitting down next to other patients, you have your very own room with your very own FLAT SCREEN TV. I watched sportscenter and the history channel while I had my teeth taken care of. Everything is digital and "on-demand". The xrays are digital and were up on the flat screen in seconds along with with digital photos he takes with a camera of your "hotspots" for a side by side comparison. When I needed a porcelein crown made, instead of giving me a temporary crown and shipping out the request to a 3rd party (and thus needing an return trip, which equates to more needles to numb my mouth, more time away from work, etc. etc.)... Dr. Fong has this machine that uses lasers and carves you a new tooth right then and there... no return trips, no more time away from work, no extra painful injections! I felt zero pain... and thats saying something because I had a root canal and several crowns/fillings. Dr. Fong is very gentle, very articulate in his work, and very fast. He explained everything to me before he did it, and he did it with preciscion. A no -brainer. I'm telling you, this place is the "Four Seasons" of dentists... he's changed my attitude about dentists. read more

***third visit*** Dr. Fong is da bomb (hey, that sorta rhymed!). He replaced two of my old crusty metal fillings today and I didn't feel a damn thing. Nothing! Normally I can feel the novocaine shot and it stings like a bitch but with the fabulous Dr. Fong, not one bit of pain. He also made quick work of it, the hour flew by. Major bonus, I got to watch Cartoon Network while he worked, how friggin' sweet is that?! ***original review*** I was very impressed by Dr. Fong's office and his staff. On my first consultation visit, he spent loads of time with me explaining everything he was doing (not every dentist or hygienist does that) and advising what I could do to improve the situation in my mouth (like a lot of people, I have an allergic like aversion to flossing) but not lecturing. He was kind and super attentive. X-rays were taken with the fancy new digital machines and the hygienist made fast work of it. Second visit, for my actual cleaning was about as pleasant as a dental cleaning can be. Lindsay was incredibly nice and very thorough and was cool enough to not ask me questions while she had her hands and instruments in my mouth (why do other dentists and hygienist do this? we can't answer you!). She gave me a pretty new pink toothbrush too :D The gals in the front are real nice and friendly too without being overbearing or annoying. I have to go back to get some fillings (boo hoo) so am reserving a 5th star for after that work is done. read more

Advanced Dentistry and Dr. Brian Fong rule! The office is in Redwood City, so it's a bit out of the way, but well worth it! The waiting area is super comfortable with leather sofas, stone fireplace, hardwood floors, gurgling waterfountain and a flat screen TV. The receptionists are sooo nice. And Dr. Fong is a truly awesome dentist. I have never had a dentist give me a novocaine shot before that didn't hurt. When he did it, I didn't even feel it! I can't believe how gentle he is. I also really like the fact that there are TVs in each dental chair so you can channel surf while they're working on you. It makes the time fly. What I like best though is that Dr. Fong is really up to speed on all the modern dental technologies out there and he only uses composite fillings (metal fillings are bad for you and look ugly!). I highly recommend Dr. Fong to anyone looking for a dentist. He is the BEST ever. I've been very impressed with all the work he's done for me and my huband over the past year. read more

I'm very impressed with how calming this office is - not something you usually hear about a dentist office! I have had my first visit with Dr. Fong, and have two more appts scheduled - a cleaning & a repair of a chipped tooth. The appointments are long - he does take his time. I felt really comfortable talking with him & the staff, and he encourages questions. I'm a little concerned about the receptionist though. She seems to apologize for scheduling mistakes a lot. While I was waiting for my appt a gentleman walked in, she said his appt was later in the day. He had received an email for the current time. He left, then she called him within a few minutes to say they could fit him in. With my appt, I was supposed to get the cleaning then, but she had told the hygienist to take lunch instead. She's nice about it and all, but I hope these were isolated cases. yes, I realize the receptionist isn't taking care of my teeth, but she does manage the appointment book! oooooo - anyone with a latex sensitivity or allergy - you have your dentist! From the start, it's always been a pleasure to visit Dr. Fong's office. Go figure! Dr. Fong is very thorough and doesn't treat you like an idiot, but with a lot of respect. The office is pretty impressive - when you walk in it's like a HGTV showroom. And the equipment is the leading edge with flat panel monitors hanging from the ceiling so you can look over xrays and records with the doc. To speak of one experience, I just had a porcelain crown replaced recently. The procedure was painless and done in less than an hour. Since they have all the equipment right there, there's no need to come back in a week to wait for a 3rd party to have the tooth made. Few months later, I haven't had any problems at all with the tooth. The staff is very friendly, and it's almost like walking into "Cheers" where everyone knows your name. J recommended me to his dentist when I was looking for someone in the Pennisula. Dr. Fong split up our check-up and teeth cleaning into 2 sessions. Instead of it being inconvenient it was great to feel like you got personal attention from the Dr. Teeth cleaning was uneventful but didn't get Netflix so settled for basic cable instead. The hygenists, staff, and front desk is nice and I got a great goodie bag on the way out. The only negative was there was some misinformation with my insurance. The front desk told me Dr. Fong was in-network for Delta Dental PPO. Dr. Fong has Delta Premier and it was the same benefits. But in the end Dr. Fong technically is out-of-network and I had to pay an extra $50 for deductible. I had to catch the discrepancy myself and was told that the deductible was standard for in-network (which it's not). I may not have chosen Dr. Fong if I had realized he was out-of-network to avoid paying the extra $50 every year. Unfortunately he found 5 fillings that needed to be refilled so we'll see how that goes... And who knew fillings had to be refilled. =( read more

Wonderful dentist! I live in San Francisco and going to Dr. Fong is a bit out of my way but it is well - well - worth the trip. The front desk ladies are very friendly and just a pleasure to speak with. The office is clean and comfortable. Dr. Fong and his team do a wonderful job of listening to your needs and taking the time to make sure you're a happy patient. My smile has improved since going to Dr. Fong and I'm glad I found them. I have no problem scheduling, appointments anymore, it seems like that online form thing was a fluke. I get reminders by email which rocks because I'm terrible about picking up my cell when at work. Other than all the scheduling stuff, I've been in for an intro to the Dr., X-rays, fillings, and the dreaded "deep cleaning" procedure. I hadn't been keeping up my cleaning appts before I started going to Advanced this year (over 2 years without a cleaning!) so my teeth and gums were not in good shape. I've found the dental hygenists I've seen for most of the work done to be thorough (keeping an eye on known issues like my jaw clenching and drymouth) and very gentle, which helps LOTS because a) I generally hate having dental work and b) I have a really small mouth and lots of extra bony places so simple stuff like X-rays can cause lots of discomfort and even cuts in my mouth. I have a lot of work to do when it comes to flossing, but a few months out now from my deep cleaning (aka root planing and scaling) my gum pockets are not as deep as they were before. It's nice to see results, I was quite skeptical about this procedure. The office has lots of high tech goodies, like this tiny camera that can take photos or give a live feed from inside your mouth to a display in front of you. When I had the 1st half of my mouth deep cleaned, it was awesome and scary to see the clean and uncleaned teeth juxtaposed on the screen. Other than the wow factor, I find this reinforces the importance of proper cleaning in a visual way that you just can't get from looking at a mirror. I've gotten the usual toothbrush, toothpaste and floss when completing a cleaning, but also have been given samples of gum massagers and drymouth-specific mouthwash which is nice. The best was after being numbed for fillings or deep cleaning, the reception staff sent me off with a Jamba Juice gift card which I thought was very thoughtful. Overall, I couldn't be happier with a dental office. As much as I don't like having the work done, I leave feeling good about being on the right path to healthy teeth and gums. Dr. Fong is a total perfectionist. I was referred to him by a friend of mine and I'm super grateful. He has state of the art technology that for some reason made everything more comfortable. I have mental scars from when I was young, going to my old dentist with all of his old steampunk contraptions and torture devices. Walking into Dr. Fong's office and sitting in my chair, I felt totally at ease for the first time in a dental office. woo hoo! I really appreciate how thorough he is with his exams, didn't try to talk me into any services I wasn't ready for and took the time to explain what he was doing every step of the way. I've never had digital x-rays done before so I had a lot of questions. He's a super nice guy and I can tell that he really cares about his patients, I'm making all of my SouthBay and Peninsula friends go to him now. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a dentist in this area. I'm pretty bummed reading what others had reviewed about my dentist and in response just have to say that I've been to dentists before that seem to rush you in and out of their chair, and totally make me feel like a number. But Dr Fong made sure me and my health came first. Dude, if you're late, you're late. Suck it up and just COME BACK later. Also, I'd like to see what other quotes "cookie k" got from other dentists, I mean C'MON. Did he think dental work was cheap?? A dentist office with comfort from the waiting room to the chair - imagine that! Almost luxurious enough to make you WANT to go to the dentist. I waited until my first series of cleanings were complete before writing a review. Setting up a new patient appt. - Easy. First appt. with Dr. Fong - super comprehensive, more so than any dentist I've been too (and I am picky about dentists). First deep cleaning appt - what a pro. Numbing gel, Novocaine - completely tolerable. Bite blocker - super helpful. I was scraped, cleaned and out of there after some pleasant chatting and watching TV while in the chair. I was watching a bad daytime TV cop show of some sort while they were cleaning my teeth: Cop: How could a father kill his own son? I've been seeing Dr. Fong for over 10 years now (!) and my husband also sees him too. Dr. Fong is professional and skilled. He is a friendly demeanor and motivates his patients to take care of their teeth through matter-of-fact explanations instead of using fear. I like that Dr. Fong invests in his business. For instance, the equipment is new and advanced. As an example, after a teeth cleaning, the dental assistant can show me a diagram of all my teeth with the size of the gum pockets up on a screen. I'm also shown how my current pockets look compared to previous visits. The screens also double for watching TV as you're having procedures done. I just had a cavity repaired today and it was quick and painless. Dr. Fong was even able to replace an old deteriorating filling and was very patient in explaining why my old filling was failing. He's observant and saw that some of my old fillings (not done by him) were affecting my bite and fixed them for me. read more

I went through a spell (8 years) with no dental insurance so I was obviously nervous for my return to the world of hygiene. I chose this place because of the Yelp reviews and I wasn't disappointed. The hygienists are kind and gentle. They are probably a little more expensive than other places but it is well worth it if you are at all nervous about going to the dentist. EVERYONE BE AWARE THAT THIS IS ONE OF THE DENTAL OFFICES THAT CHARGES $100 AN HOUR OF HOW EVER LONG YOUR APPOINTMENT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE AND ON THE """"""FIRST FAILED""""" APPOINTMENT. Its ridiculous because I was charged $250 for my FIRST failed appointment and it cost me almost as much as the procedure I was suppose to have. Other Dental offices usually charge you a failed appointment fee after the 3rd no show and usually $10 or at most $50 but not on the FIRST. Yeah Never Going Back!!!!!
