Dr. White is a very good Doctor and his team are all very professional. Me and my family has been comparing here for years and dogs we had and passed. I had to put down a few my dogs here, and the staff are very sympathy. The cost is fair here and I know Dr. White may retire soon. New ***Beware!!!*** I was very disappointed to have called the veterinarian who was listed on my new puppy's paperwork as having been the one to give them their check up. I informed them that the person I bought the puppy from had scammed me and that the genetic health testing I had done proved they sold me a dog that was not what they said it was, not to mention the fact that it carries two copies of a dangerous genetic disease Meaning the parent dogs should have never been breeding together to begin with, and that it was unethical to do so. Carol, The receptionist was very rude. She said "I don't know what you want me to do about it because I'm not going to do anything to one of our Loyal clients" After I replied with "I was afraid that would be your answer and that you weren't going to care that these dogs were being bred unethically with health problems because you obviously make a lot of money off of them" She hung up on me. As a breeder myself, I pride myself in Taking all the right steps to ensure the utmost health and quality of the breed is continued, so it is disheartening to find breeders like this, and even more disheartening than a veterinarian would condone this. All that to say, A veterinarian with the ability to hide/lie for someone doing something unethical is not Who I would ever want taking care of my animals. If money is their top priority, animals would never be. I think it's important to mention that I am not someone who runs to the Internet to give bad reviews the minute someone does something wrong to me. We had to switch vets due to moving and chose to try out Dr. White. He is very kind and thorough. The appt waits can turn very long, though. My dogs are quite overstimulated or nervous at the vet, so having to wait in the lobby with other animals going in and out can be extremely stressful. I feel it adds even more stress to the visit, which did not happen at our past vet where animals + owner were escorted to a private room in a timely manner. My major issue with the practice is the following: They do not call and let you know when vaccines are expiring or an annual is due. I went to the same vet for fifteen years before this, so maybe this isn't common elsewhere, but it's inconvenient enough that I am beginning to look for other options. I would think it'd be common practice to call to schedule something when an annual exam is needed soon? I greatly appreciate the proactive stance my previous vet took in caring for my babies. read more

I am based in Houston, Texas. Not San Francisco. I sought out Dr. White's services after being disappointed with other vets. Initially, I trusted him as he appeared "kind" and "honest". However, in the last month, I noticed a pattern of subtle ways of interacting and making recommendations that sought to generate income. Some of those recommendations were based on hunches, guesses, and misdiagnoses. MANY were suspect and unnecessary. Moreover, he MISDIAGNOSED my doggie's back problem and weak hind legs, as "Arthritis" and suggested the application of an injection called LIBRELA. He claimed that that poison had been on the market for the past three years and yielded, in his experience, satisfactory results to some of his clients. When I asked if he would recommend it for my doggie, he said "If it were my dog, I would". I WAS FOOL TO HAVE GONE WITH THAT OPINION. TWO DAYS AFTER THAT INJECTION, THE HEALTH OF MY DOGGIE WENT DOWNHILL AND FIVE DAYS LATER, HE HAD TO BE EUTHANIZED. Interestingly, a few days prior to that injection, Dr. White did blood work and the results were very good. Alarmed about what I noticed soon after the injection, I called his office to report my observations and one of the receptionists was very rude and suggested that "there was no way Dr. White could have predicted what happened to my doggie" Alarmed at the rapid deterioration of my doggie, I took him to another vet. She carefully checked him, specially his back, hind legs, and reflexes. She found his reflexes were intact but diagnosed him with IVDD (Intervertebral disc disease), hind limb weakness and ataxia secondary to IVDD. NOT ARTHRITIS. That vet said that she could not do anything and referred him an Emergency Veterinary Hospital. I followed through. Once there, a nurse took the intake. I described the problems I had observed following the application of the injection without naming it. She cautiously asked about the injection's name. She volunteered with the name of that poison. "Was it LIBRELA"? She asked. And I said "YES". She then stated that one of her dogs had had that injection recently and soon after, his health deteriorated and had to be euthanized! In the emergency hospital, the vet found that my doggie had arrythmia, fluid in his lungs, and had problems breathing. That he could not go back home because he could suffer badly from asphyxia. He had to be put on oxygen and stay in the hospital. The prognosis was poor. The other option to save him from unnecessary further suffering was to euthanize him. I noticed deception and dishonesty from Dr. White when he would first recommend a procedure for my Corgi. When I asked about pricing... he would suggest that "it was not that necessary". This happened several times. I should have known better!!! Never again, will I use his services in the event I get another dog. I am heartbroken. Dr. White is really great. Yes, the wait time is a little long and I'll explain why. Every time I have an appointment, Dr. White addresses my concerns and answers all of my questions. The first few times I saw him, I was surprised how much time he spent in our appointment but it was greatly appreciated. So now when I have an appointment and it's running late (avg. 15-30 min), I know he's just taking the same amount of care and patience with that pet owner as he does with me. You know what's nice? Being able to ask your vet questions rather than hope you can find the answer on Google. I have gone to several veterinary clinics before sticking with this one- the low-cost ones that are walk-in only with horrendous wait times then only have a 10-minute appointment window. The upscale offices that want $80 just for an exam fee. The ones who want to do freaking blood tests and x-rays for any symptom. This office has reasonable wait times, with reasonable appointment windows. Can you get an appointment same day? Probably not. But this isn't an emergency veterinarian clinic. The exam fees and routine vaccines are also reasonable, they're pretty close to the low-cost clinics I've tried. And most importantly, I've always had reasonable expectations for treatment set out for my pets. For people complaining about the office staff, I very rarely encounter veterinarian office staff whose demeanor is above luke-warm. I've heard some of the people they encounter while waiting for my appointment and I don't think my demeanor would be above frigid if I had interactions like that on the daily. I will say, for spay & neuter, there are lower cost options. I definitely opted to go elsewhere for my dogs spay after I got the estimate. read more

I'm a new dog owner and so I'm still going around town looking for an affordable but reliable vet and one of my friends referred me to this little vet clinic so I figured I'd give it a shot. My little stray dog Barney whom I adopted about a month ago started having bloody diarrhea. Like extremely bloody diarrhea and he was vomiting and wouldn't touch his food. He had lost a lot of weight and he was really weak. Time to go to the vet, right? I made an appointment to this clinic and I arrived a little late. No biggie, I waited probably around 10 minutes after I got there before I was called in. The vet tech (I didn't get her name) was really helpful and super nice. Dr. White was extremely helpful in explaining what might have been going with Barney and was really patient in answering my questions. During the exam, Barney's stool was tested. He was given an injection to stop his vomiting and he was given some antibiotic pills for a week. His blood was also tested for PCV/Hematocrit testing, which I learned was to test whether or not he had HGE (hemorrhagic gastroenteritis) which could be fatal to dogs. I was also asked if Barney was on any kind of heartworm medication, to which I responded "no". And just like that, I was given a free sample of Heartgard. No pressure to buy at all. Just a simple question of whether or not he was on heartworm prevention medication and then, "ok, we'll give you a sample". That's it. Pretty awesome! So, with all the tests, the exam, and the free sample, I was expecting to be paying a crap load out of my pocket but it turned that the cost was still within my budget so I was pleased. All in all, I was very happy with my visit to this clinic. I'm going to try a couple of other vet clinics, but I think I'm going to end up using Dr. White for Barney's long-term care. read more

I came in for a sick Guinea pig of mine, Dr. white and vet tech Jade were wonderful. Only problem is, Kate, the front desk receptionist is so rude. Called multiple times to discuss a private matter with the vet tech as I was advised to do, and Kate refused to let me speak with anyone other than her. Kate lied numerous times claiming that she was having someone else call me, and then lied about leaving me a voicemail which she NEVER did. She was so unprofessional and upset me to the point that I will never come to this establishment ever again. She laughed as I explained that my other Guinea pig had passed from a past visit. I was explaining that I was told something by the vet tech, to which she responded by laughing and accusing me of lying. So unprofessional and rude, it's a shame that she is the reason for me never wanting to come back to see Dr. White. I will be taking my business elsewhere. read more

Before, I took my guinea pig to two other clinics and the experiences between those and Briarcrest are night and day. I can't sufficiently express my gratitude for the expertise and compassion displayed by Dr. White and his staff. I called to make an appointment for both my frogs. It was extremely important that they be seen because I suspected them of having chytrid. Not only did they blow me off the first time I called but when I called back because they had gotten worse, they couldn't get me in for another 8 days. I said fine because I wanted them seen by a great doctor even if it was just a follow up. Today they called to confirm and not only did they NOT have BOTH frogs scheduled.. They wouldn't fix the mistake and see both in the same appointment. I tried telling her that I didn't need any tests done I just needed a clean bill of health so I could put them back in their enclosure, but it didn't matter. She said only one frog was allowed. She was very rude on the phone and frankly acted like she didn't care at all. I guess when you want the best doctor, you have to put up with rude, stuck up employees as the price. They know their the best so they don't care about how they act. Laura if you're reading this, please change your attitude. This was my second visit to Briarcrest clinic as I thought my precious (cue Golum voice) cat was sick since he had been throwing up. I really liked my first visit with Dr. White as neither he nor the technicians had forced booster shots, vaccines or additional blood work down my throat like most vets I've had in the past. They'd move down a few doors (I'm not sure when) so the waiting area was definitely less cramped. Wait time was short as the tech took me and my cat into a waiting room. We waited for about 10 minutes while my cat roamed around and explored the room which I think kept him calm. When Dr. White came in, he checked my cat and took his time to explain a lot of the science behind cat issues and answer all of my many questions. Dr. White was patient and did not make me feel like I was just another quick in and out cash cow. When Dr. White was checking my cat, I've never seen my cat so calm with a vet before. Dr. White must have some kind of pet aura. The best part was he didn't insist I do any additional blood work on my cat as he thought he was healthy and fine. No one tried to sell me missed boosters or vaccines. This is exactly what I want in a vet clinic. Check over my cat for the problem I brought him in for and send him home. Total bill $45 - the exam fee. Briarcrest has earned all my future pet visits. read more

I brought my cat here after we found some mystery blood in our restroom, but found absolutely no wounds when we looked her over. I am extremely reluctant to bring my cat anywhere because she is petrified of car rides, and she is very people aggressive. To paint a picture, I've actually had another vet ask me not to bring my cat in because she was "so firey". I had warned the clinic about her aggressiveness before we came in, and I was told that they deal with cats like her all the time, and not to worry. When we got to the clinic, my cat was terrified but silent inside her carrier. As soon as the nurse walked into our examination room and got close, all hell broke loose. My cat was screaming, howling, hissing, spitting, and batting at the sides of her carrier furiously. The nurse opted to wait for Dr. White, as he is apparently very good with aggressive cats. My cat calmed down when she left, but then acted the same when the doctor came into the room. Dr. White let me know that if I preferred, they could put a bag around her carrier, and push some sleeping gas into it to put her to sleep for her examination. He assured me that there would be no hangover or drowsiness, and she would wake up 5-6 minutes after they removed the gas. Although I was nervous, I happily agreed to this option for the safety of my cat, for her stress levels, and so they could be thorough in their examination without her thrashing around, possibly hurting herself or them. After her examination, Dr. White came back into the room and spoke with us for at least 15 minutes. He was kind, and he took his time explaining what might be going on with my poor kitty. He made sure to look her over and check for absolutely anything that could have caused her issue, and we were very impressed with how much he seemed to care about us, and our pet. The front staff are helpful and friendly, the vet is a true professional. I couldn't be more pleased, and I will continue to come to them any time my cat needs care. read more

Be careful. While the doctor here is nice and cares for your pet. The staff is not giving out correct information to patients when calling in. I was quoted over the phone 2x a price for service around 350 before scheduling the appts. They made me schedule a pre surgery appointment to look and make sure the dog was okay for surgery to find out the day before that the price is going to be closer to 600.00 almost twice the quote but also said eveb after seeing my dog they still could not give me a specific price and it could still go up when you pick up your dog after surgery. I called them to confirm the surgery since i hadnt recieved any instruction on drop off, pick up, etc. They didn't communicate any of this during my visit and I would have not known of the price increase until the morning of, when they then give you a print out of the cost when you are admitting your pet and already took time out of your day to get your dog there. I bet half of the people they play the trick on just pay the increase because of the inconvenience of having to start the process over. Make sure everything you get quoted is on paper prior to scheduling anything with this office. I've had many pets and have never had any issues getting a solid price from a vet on an everyday service like spay/neuter. Feels like a gimmick. read more

I've had nothing but positive experiences with Dr. White and his staff. I first brought my hamster there due to tumors and Dr. White was the only vet in the area who deals with small rodents and other exotic pets. He was very kind, helpful, and knowledge. The prices were fair and he didn't charge me for anesthesia because he stated he needed it for the exam but the resources used are minimal because of the size of the hamster, which I thought was extremely kind as a new client. Unfortunately, I had to put down my hamster due to old age and Dr. White was exceptionally empathetic about the entire process and very understanding. He mailed me a hand written card expressing how sorry he was for my loss. I recently found a kitten and Dr. White has been extremely helpful in the process and checkups to make sure she is healthy and is very knowledge of all the illnesses she had due to being on the street. I was searching for a veterinarian who sees exotic animals. I had a lizard named Lizzy. I took her in to see the vet because she stopped eating. I had Lizzy for a little over 8 years. Dr. White treated Lizzy and had her stay with him for a couple of days giving her natural sunlight to improve her appetite. Sure enough Lizzy started to eat after a couple of days. He suggested I change her bulb to one that emits more vitamin d. I took Lizzy back for a check up because I wanted to know how long she would live? I asked the vet how long Lizzy would live since I already owned her for 8 years. Dr. White said, "That is the healthiest looking bearded dragon I've ever seen, she will live at least 25 years." Oh, I didn't know I'd be investing 25 years of my life with this lizard, I had gotten it as a present from an ex-boyfriend for my 20th birthday. Dr. White has also seen my white boxer Beaux. Today Beaux had an emergency and Dr. White took him immediately, even though I called the day of. He didn't hesitate to see me. Beaux has been to Dr. White for an infected tooth that is now healed, ulcerative colitis which is treated with sulfa medication and now Beaux is been seen for foreign objects he's ingested. Beaux was imaged and foreign items identified, he was given some medicine to induce vomiting. Beaux is being transferred to the hospital now to receive an endoscopy and possibly surgery. Dr. White is very reasonable in price. I used to go to Banfield in Pet Smart due to it's proximity, but the insurance they make you buy and pay monthly for to reduce their fees which still are astronomical with your Pet Smart insurance, I've stopped being lazy and started driving to save over $100-$300 on my vet costs. I recommend Dr. White for any animal needing a good vet. Beaux's case is quite complex, it wasn't that Dr. White could not treat him, Beaux is need of seeing a specialist in Gastroenterology. read more
