Brick Diner - Omg horrid - American Near Me - Brick, New Jersey

I will probably go back here and give it another shot but let me explain in my pros/cons like fashion. Pros: So the lions share of the food was pretty good. I got the Reuben as I often do and even though it was almost sans Russian dressing they gave me a generous side cup and I was fine. I didn't really eat my fries but it was more based on being stuffed and not that they were bad or anything, run of the mill diner fries def not "bad". The restaurant is pretty huge, there is a dining room a luncheon section and a back room for a party or reception or what have you. Prices are fair, def not bad, no one will be bankrupted by Brick Diner. Cons: The server tried her best but and I might be picky because I eat out a lot but I couldn't get any space to breath, and I guess being over attentive is better than not being around at all but every time I called her over she seemed upset. Im sorry if the 20 times you were around I didn't need something and you decide to walk away when I finish my soda. The french onion soup was bad. The cheese wasn't cooked enough and im not one to send something back but my mom and her boyfriend encouraged me so I nutted up and asked them to but it in for awhile longer and she brought it back 2 seconds later not looking much different affirming my believe in not sending food back. Guess the broth was passable but it was like 4 bucks for some okay broth and crap cheese, I'll pass. I didn't get dessert but my moms boyfriend got the black forest cake straight from Shop Rite, it was easily the most awful cake I've seen in awhile and it was sold to him as the second coming. I don't wanna go on and on about this cake but we all tried some and by the middle of the small slice 3 fat people couldn't make it through it was almost a game of truth or dare, with the dare being try the cake again and the truth being "Isn't this cake horrid?" Verdict is the diner isn't horrible but some aspects can certainly be. Now all this can be substantiated or changed for the better (or worse) with a single visit. Our second visit was a worse experience than the first. A man, we assumed to be the OWNER, with a shirt soaked with sweat (obviously just back from a workout) behind the counter and in and out of the kitchen. My first and only visit was mediocre. I ordered a well done California burger. The menu says it includes lettuce, tomato, onion and mayo, served with cole slaw and pickles. It was served with only lettuce and tomato. It was served rare not well done. There was no onion, no mayo, no cole slaw, no pickle. I asked about mayo and the waitress brought it. Halfway done eating, I wanted to verify the rest so I asked for a menu. When I asked about the cole slaw, the waitress said, "Do you want that now"? Maybe they save that for desert where she comes from. She brought cole slaw and a pickle. I showed the waitress a cross section of the burger which was rare and said, "I did order well done, didn't I"? She said, "That's what I wrote down". Rude is key word. Forget the customer is always right... Not at this diner! Do not order hot food to go as it comes in styrofoam containers! You get home open it to find your food has melted into the Styrofoam and tastes completely horrible like your literally eating plastic. When we stop here it's for a late family breakfast after church or a late night stop midnight-1am on the rare occasions the grown-ups get out. I wish they were 24 hours as OB was. Can't tell you how many times we had a very large group with late night cravings & our only option was disgusting McDonald's or Dominos--and we are 35+ age adults in large groups who would certainly tip well. My favorite indulgence is the pork roll & cheese on a bagel or roll, French fries, and brown gravy to dip it all in. Jersey on a plate! The cream of turkey soup is also great late-night fare. I read the reviews and realized most were upset over their margarita or some other trivial thing that could easily be remedied and didn't really have significant bearing on the place itself. With that being said, the service was amazing. They couldn't have been any more accommodating or friendly. Our food and cappuccino was perfect and satisfying. Last time I was here, a couple waitresses were snapping at their manager when he told them to do stuff; it made me feel very uncomfortable. Been here multiple times, never had an issue, but my experience this morning was absolutely atrocious. Waitress never told us her name, didn't see a nametag, but the receipt said Aileen- if you are ever assigned to this woman, I would highly recommend for you to ask to be seated elsewhere. It started when I, being lactose intolerant, asked for any kind of dairy substitute instead of the half-and-half creamer I was given (I usually just suck it up and take lactase pills but my stomach was a little funny and I didn't want to if I didn't have to): she asked me what I meant, I said "something like almond-milk?" she immediately sneered, and used a very condescending tone when she informed me "oh, no, we don't have any of THAT here, besides, the kids would drink all of it anyway". Needless to say I was a very off put by the reaction, I felt I had asked very politely and that it wasn't such an awful question, she seemed almost personally offended by this and it showed for the duration of our stay. For food I ordered my usual, pointing to it and giving her the number off the menu- "what is that? You have to tell me what it is, we changed the menus very recently" (they were unchanged from the previous time we'd been there over two weeks prior), and asked for half bacon half sausage, to which she replied "oh, no, you're not allowed to do that. It's either all bacon or all sausage" (the last time I had been here I was able to do this no issue, and was even asked how I wanted my bacon cooked). To finish off our experience with this wonderful woman, we were left sitting for almost ten solid minutes, forks down, with her standing less than 30 feet away completely ignoring our existence. She attended the table next to us with her back to us and immediately borderline ran so we didn't have time to catch her attention to ask for boxes and a check so we could just leave. Our previous visit was absolutely wonderful, the waitress was a fantastic person who definitely understood customer service with a smile and how to make people feel welcome, but after this visit I'm honestly not sure if I'll be returning for breakfast any time soon. TL;DR- I don't know what almond milk did to so deeply wound Aileen, but I wish she wouldn't have treated me like dog shit on her shoe just for asking for a dairy alternative so I didn't have to suffer through my lactose intolerance to drink coffee at 9am. read more

This diner is worlds better than Rainbow across the street. Staff is very friendly and prompt. Our waitress was Tracy - she was great and had a sense of humor. Chicken orzo soup was delicious and boyfriend thought the matzoh ball soup was very good. His salad was fresh and the cucumbers were as fresh cut as can be. I ordered a cheeseburger with disco fries and it came with your generic diner cole slaw and pickle. Cole slaw seemed fresh and not packaged. It was on the sweeter side and not drenched or heavy. Pickle was crisp and not limpy. BF ordered chicken kismondo and it was pretty delicious. Not a bad meal when you don't know what else to do or want a bang for your buck with the dinner specials. My wife and I were visiting relatives, and they took us to the Brick Diner, inspired by my wife's mention that we often eat at a couple of diners in and near Seattle. I ordered a French toast dinner, which consisted of the French toast, maple flavored syrup, ham (or bacon or sausage), and a very small glass of orange juice. The French toast was OK, but wasn't anywhere close to my brother-in-law's home-made French toast, or that of a Seattle area diner, but good enough. The maple flavored syrup was OK, but nothing like real maple syrup. (Offering the real thing, even as an extra-cost option, is uncommon enough that I can't really count the fake stuff against places with normal prices.) The ham was fine; I generally order it because it's so reliable. I forget what my wife ordered, but she also found it good but nothing special. I couldn't keep track of what the rest of our party of eight ordered, let alone whether they liked it. The cost was reasonable. Service was good, except that the server never refilled my tea with hot water. But I can't expect the same kind of service as I get in Washington state, because New Jersey has has the same pitiful minimum wage as the federal minimum: $2.13 per hour for tip jobs. (Washington servers get a minimum of $9.19, plus tips; no exception for tip jobs. Naturally that draws only the best workers into server jobs.) It looked like everyone else at our table was served without even that small oversight. The server was good about coffee refills, just not tea. My three star rating means "A-OK". It's good food and good service, for a very good price. Others might rate that as four stars, but that would be grade inflation. read more

Ordered take out and they forgot a soup (which we were charged for). When we called the man on the phone legitimately started yelling "what do you want me to do about it." He was so loud he could be heard from the other room. All we wanted was the charge reimbursed and it took approximately 5 minutes of him yelling at us to get him to understand that it was on him to rectify the situation. The second, forgotten soup was listed on our bill and he insisted there was only one. I'm sorry, but typically in the service industry the customer is always right. We were respectful when we called and he became irate within seconds. If you can avoid whoever this man working there was I'm sure it would be a pleasant experience; however, be sure not to correct him or ask for something you ordered that they didn't serve you. I have been coming to the brick diner for the past two years. I work for a large hvac company, and eat out a lot because of all the hours I work. the food I eat at the brick diner is like eating home cooked meals. I don't like fast foods. the soup is really good also. there cakes are better than the ones you buy at the bakery. John and Pete the managers at brick diner are top notch.i go for breakfeast every moring before work and dinner at least three times per week. there prices are very good. Went in one night (early morning, actually) with a large group after a late night out. The owner just stood there watching us the whole time like we were a bunch of trouble makers-which we are not. Then my Ruben came out without dressing. The waitress brought out some dressing on the side. She explained that the owner (the watch-dog) said that the Ruben actually doesn't come with dressing. I'm sorry, since when?? I came to the conclusion that he said that to cover his ass so that he didn't have to take it off the check. Then my friend had asked for lemons on the side for his water. She brought out a dish of lemons and proceeded to pick us he lemons with her hands and out them in his water! Like, really? You just put your dirty hands all over his lemons! I'm sure that's how they do it when they're preparing drinks in the back (I'm not naive), but I don't want to see it in action. Thinking about what could be on her hands made me nauseous. If that wasn't enough, my other friend didn't finish his meal and asked for a to-go box. Rather than just handing it to him, she picked up his sandwich with her hands (again!) and put it in the to-go box for him! If the food was at least decent, I would (maybe) understand the owner/manager (whatever the hell he is) being such a prick. But the food is sub-par at best. Holy buttfuck where do I begin? Well... the slaw was pretty good. It's had just the right amount of Jizz sauce and it seemed fresh. The pickles kinda looked like chords though.
