5 stars for my family's favorite breakfast spot in Brick; even since moving to North Carolina over five years ago, I visit Irv & Karen's every time I come up to visit! My favorite platter is two eggs (over easy or sunny side up) with bacon, potatoes and rye toast. Perfect every time! Especially with some ketchup & hot sauce; yum yum! Sometimes I do enjoy switching it up and getting a pork roll egg and cheese on a Kaiser roll which is of course THE breakfast sandwich of New Jersey. So delicious and I really really enjoy it considering it's a challenge to find Taylor Ham pork roll in NC (only certain grocery stores carry it). My kids always enjoy the pancakes and the French toast platters. The Reuben sandwich is the real deal; hearty with the pastrami piled high, authentic and full of flavor! Their rye bread is the best. While sitting at our corner table bottom of framed pic on wall fell down. *Waitress/service. Excellent, lovely women. When the waitress brought sandwiches we questioned that this was pastrami. She commented that SHE EVEN QUESTIONED THE COOK. We were hungry, we ate it and thought perhaps a different cook was on. * Checking out, women behind register( heavy-set with short brownish hair) while she was processing my credit card I saw a notice (4x6 card)amongst all the other clutter that they would be adding a 3.5% charge for Credit card use. While questioning this she handed me my card back, already charged. I then went to add the tip and she very rudely stated 'no tips 'can be added to the credit card. I looked around for THAT notice and she responded that it is stated on the menu, and over there is an ATM machine. Silly us, we never looked at the menu. Just ordered what they advertise. I ended up having a $100. bill that was able to get broken down so we could leave the lovely waitress a fair tip. For the 25.00 $$$$ it cost we got @ 12.00 worth of value. NO BANG FOR THE BUCK!! Came back home from California for the holidays. Since Irv's 33 Deli changed hands we were looking for a place that had the same taste Irv's did so many years ago. Thanks to Yelpers, we found this gem. The pastrami sandwiches were outstanding- very understandable why this is there specialty. The best we have had in a very long time. Piled high on rye bread- just so good. The knish was really delicious and as good or better than Irv's 33 served many years ago. Yea I mess with this place heavy. I'll start with the cons I guess. Cons: It's sorta pricey, it's 10 bucks for a closed Reuben and 13 for an open face...I don't know if its a $$$$ rating like yelp has it but Its on the higher end of $$ for sure. It's small which can also be what gives it charm but If you are coming here with a party bigger than 3 or 2 fat people you might be annoyed. Parking can also be a pain im sure (it was deadish when I went so I dunno but it seems limited.) Now the pros Pros: It's the best freaking Reuben I swear to Christ. Its all I had outside the sprite but its all I needed really Im sure their other products are great, the guy next to me ordered a regular breakfast (eggs, sausage, hash browns, toast.) and it looked and smelled great but I would highly recommend the Reuben, just do it, even if you are like a vegan, come on just do it. The service is fast and the waitresses were awesome, very salt of the earth like people there staff included. Credit card accepted (cash tips only). Ambiance was cool. The verdict is the Reuben alone gets it a five star rating. The waitresses, service, and what have you are just nice extras and the cramped feeling and slightly high price are way worth it. Ordered pastrami sandwich, which is their specialty one would assume with the name being Irv and Karen's PASTRAMI. The sandwich was half the size of what I recall having had maybe 6 months ago. But most disappointing, was the quality of the pastrami. It was sinuewy and thus chewy to the point where I had to take a piece out of the sandwich. My GF had a toasted bagel which was dry and stale. If bagels aren't your thing, instead of serving substandard ones, DON'T PUT THEM ON THE MENU. On paying my bill I asked the woman at the register if they had changed suppliers because the pastrami wasn't the same quality that I remember. She just shrugged and rang me up. I arrived 15 minutes prior to closing and thought I might not get great service. I was wrong. The team of servers and cooks were great. And Karen was there but you couldn't tell who the owner was by how well each person treated you. They were all great and worked together so well. The food was great. The only thing I've tried is the Pastrami Sandwich on Rye, with mustard and russian dressing. I am a huge Pastrami fan (real pastrami, not the Boars Head stuff). Usually, the only place you can find a truly good Pastrami on Rye is at a kosher deli. So i popped into Irv and Karen's with a bit of trepidation. However - they delivered. STRONG Pastrami on Rye. It isn't always consistent (occasionally, the pastrami is a bit chewy or tough), but most of the time, it's a winner. When it's hot and fresh, it's a melt in your mouth flavor bomb that few sandwiches can match. read more

I truly wish I could give more than 2 stars to this deli since their food is quite good. However, the good food is not enough for me to continue being a patron of Irv and Karens. Many of the people that work at the deli are quite rude and inconsiderate. They clearly care more about getting your money than they do about you, the customer. Tried this place for the first time, and I wouldn't go back just because of the rude vibe and dirty looks we received. They close at 3 and we got there at 2:45. We were doing take-out regardless but were greeted rudely at the door by someone telling us we were either getting takeout or nothing. The lady behind the bar area gave us such a dirty look that I almost turned around and left. We quickly ordered two hot pastrami sandwiches. The order was supposed to come with two orders or cole slaw which we didnt receive. We watched the staff make the "hot pastrami" by microwaving it to get it hot. The sandwich was sloppy. The meat was extremely fat and chewy. Even if the food was good I still wouldn't go back just because of how rude the staff was. Terrible customer service. Fatty, chewy pastrami meat. Felt uncomfortable from the moment I walked in. None of the staff greeted me, wasn't sure if I waited to be seated or seat myself. Waitress was appropriate but not 'friendly', pastrami sandwich was small and just ok, pricey for the size, and waitresses seemed to be arguing as I went to pay for it saying 'I got the last guy, you get this guy'. I've past this place a million times always saying i have to get a pastrami sandwich. Well I finally did and it was great. Let me start by saying the place is a small luncheonette in a small strip mall with about 15 tables and a counter. They serve breakfast and lunch and open from 7:30 am to 3 pm Monday -Saterday. I went in on a Friday about noon and this place was packed. I orders my Pastrami on their own homemade Rye with swiss and mustard togo. This was one great sandwich. The meat was tender and hardly any fat and the bread was soft and very flavorful. Not cheap ($11) but worth it. I noticed about 8 women running the place and they all had smiles even as busy as they were. I wish they were open Sundays so i could go for breakfast. I don't know how the rest of the food is but from the looks of things it must be worth it. I'll be back! read more
