I don't usually enjoy shopping, and after tagging along with friends for bridal dress shopping in the past, I was bracing myself for a stressful experience. To my surprise and delight, this wasn't the case at all. From the moment we entered the shop, Lisa made the entire experience sweet and seamless. I should also note I drove an hour and a half to come to this shop despite living closer to all that San Francisco offers in bridal gowns. She truly understood what I was looking for--not just in terms of style, but also respecting my budget and reassuring me that six months was plenty of time to get my dress ready. Bridal Veil Yelp: I am female and came to be fitted for a tux with tails. I was ~39 at the time and taking my soon-to-be-Sweetheart to a prom for adults who never got to go to their own. This was 10 years ago and I was sheepish coming in--not sure how they would be with me. Lisa and her Mom who own Bridal Veil were so warm, welcoming and excited for me, and with expert and eagerness, they got me suited up, fitted and I had my suit that week! I was afraid it might not drape well on me, but I looked and felt the way I wanted that night, had a wonderful evening, and I have sworn I would write this review all these years, but it was one of those things where I felt like I had so much good to say, I needed to really sit down and write something special and I never did. I went in recently after all these years to thank them again and ask if I could be fitted for a suit for my wedding. Lisa didn't have the kind of suit I was looking for but referred me to competitors (who does that?!??) and grabbed a tape measure to give me my measurements so I could get the ball rolling ASAP. She gave me the name and number of the best tailor she knows--a Master Tailor here in Aptos--and she gave me a congratulations hug. Such an incredibly warm, professional, top-notch yet hometown establishment who really take care of whoever walks in the door. They bring 100% presence to whoever they're with and really listen, and yet are snappy about it too--I didn't expect such fast service when it was my turn! They are clearly committed that you have the very best, what *you* are visualizing whether--it's from them or another--and always leaving you better than when you walked through their doors. Thank you Lisa for fitting beautiful bras that are comfortable and have brought shape back to my breast. I did not realize that poorly fitting bras damaged my breast by losing collagen. Within a couple of days of being in a well-fitted bra, my breast were more round and lifted, even when I was not wearing a bra. The occasional pain I had in my breast (from not being properly supported) was gone. I will always come to you for bras!! So much more comfortable to ride my horse with my girls supported. read more

I planned my wedding in 2 1/2 months and so I was a bit worried I wouldn't be able to find the perfect dress I had envisioned. I made an appointment with Lisa and was very nervous, seeing the reviews on yelp that said she was brutally honest, I thought she was going to tell me that I should've come in sooner and that there was no hope! Lisa was so very accommodating for my group of bridesmaids and my mother. When we met, she asked me about myself, my husband-to-be, and our venue. Without even asking what style I had in mind she pulled 4-5 gorgeous dresses and I had the feeling by looking at them somehow she could read my mind. I was not only pleased with her incredible experience and eye for detail, I was also pleased that she was realistic and when she saw me in my dress she pretty much said this is the one, but lets try on the others for the bridal experience :) Literally, the first dress I put on was the one!! How did she do that !? It actually was different from the simple lace fit and flare I had imagined myself in, but I loved that it was different! It just made me the bride I wanted to be for my groom and I knew I couldn't say no, though Lisa did let me sleep on it :) I called first thing the next morning and said I'll take it ! It was in my price range and I could buy it off the rack, so I was able to have it altered immediately. I had a great experience here shopping for my wedding dress. Bottom line is that I bought a dress that I feel great in within my price range. The other reviewers are a little unreasonable from my point of view. For example asking to get fitting for something you refuse to buy from them - that's ridiculous. I can't believe one would expect that and then give a one star review after they nicely did it for you! Or being mad they don't want you to buy a dress that doesn't look great. But I digress... Joanne and Lisa are bridal gown experts. The know what is flattering immediately and how to make you look your best. Come prepared with your price range and how you want to look and feel - they will take care of the rest. I was positive I would never buy a strapless gown and ended up buying one on the spot because these ladies knew what was going to be the most flattering on me and what would look best. Not to mention their seamstress can put any kind of sleeve on any gown if I want. My gown was marked $700 but I had told them from the get go I didn't want to pay more than $600, so they sold me the dress for $550. I tried on many things that were the style I thought I wanted and in the end what they had picked out for me within two minutes was what I bought cause it looked so much better than everything else. If you want to buy something very specific and they don't think it looks good on you, yes, they will try to talk you out of it. One should appreciate that they are trying to make sure every woman looks her best. They have a wide range of sizes and their prices are very reasonable for wedding gowns. The other wedding boutiques I've been to didn't have my sizing (since my bra size is 34FF, which is very hard to find), were totally overwhelming, wouldn't see me without appointments months in advance, etc etc. I did not want to go through a huge ordeal for my dress and they made me feel and look great. They didn't rush my purchase either. Let me also say that they didn't balk at the fact this was a lesbian wedding and even offered to do a suit for my fiance. While I can see why people are frustrated with coming here, I am so happy I found these ladies when shopping for my wedding dress. I had already gone to 3 major wedding dress stores and every dress I liked was severely overpriced and would have required a lot of tailoring. My top dress had a price tag of $2000 which was more than I was willing to spend. My mom drove by this shop one day and recommended that we make an appointment and check it out. Lisa and Joey have strong personalities, yes, but they I liked that they were straight up with me. They were one on one with me my whole appointment. My wedding was in 6 months, and so many other stores stressed the hell out of me. They weren't excited about the short time frame, but they worked with me, only showing me dresses that would 100% be ready by my wedding day. Some dresses just didn't look good and they let me know. But we did find some that looked good and one that was a perfect fit. They let me stay a little after my appointment and take the time I needed to make sure that that dress was "the one." I bought my wedding dress there for $750 that required less than $100 tailoring (bustle and cups only). It was a steal! The ladies held onto my dress until the day before the wedding and it was so nice to not have to go through the steps of hiding it from my fiancée. As long as you aren't scared of strong personalities, definitely check out this bridal shop when looking for your gown. You can save a lot of money and hassle. read more

As a same-sex couple Lisa and Joanne made us feel so welcomed and loved, hugging us on the way out we could feel the happiness they felt for us and we left feeling great about walking-in. I was dreading going back into Men's Warehouse to get fitted because it was crazy-busy and chaotic and we didn't feel like we were priority. It was minutes to 4pm on a Saturday or Sunday, I just happened to see the "Tuxes" sign while trying to park in the lot behind Men's Warehouse and thought it couldn't hurt to see what Bridal Veil had and comparison shop... ...we were immediately greeted and assured that their 4pm closing time didn't mean anything. From there I felt like they swept us off our feet with their warm customer service! I rented a tuxedo here for a black tie wedding. The measurements went quick and the rental configured fast (I'm pretty decisive). Tuxedo came in on schedule, they had me try it on (wisely ordering two coat and vest sizes because I am between sizes). the world according to noelle ~2012~ My sister was getting married and she highly recommended Bridal Veil Fashions. So on February 12, 2012 we headed from San Jose to Capitola. Upon entering the parking lot at Bridal Veil Fashions a car cut us off and almost hit my Volvo station wagon. We noticed the lady jumped out of her car and ran into the Bridal Veil Fashions shop, the person turned out to be one of the owners. I was thoroughly annoyed at the incident but decided not to say a word. Bridal Veil Fashions is a tired looking shop with very limited dress selections. I placed my order for my bridesmaids dress on February 12, 2012 and paid it in full. Two months before my sister's wedding I called and inquired about my dress. They simply said it was on it's way. A month before the wedding, I called again. They again stated it was on it's way. Three weeks before the wedding I called because I was having major surgery two weeks before the wedding. Again, Bridal Veil Fashions said it was on it's way. A week before the wedding they finally told me the dress was on back order and would hopefully arrive on Monday, July 2nd. Just note the wedding was held on July 7th. My sister was kind enough to pick up my dress. Last minute I was able to get my seamstress in the Willow Glen area of San Jose alter it ASAP. Another issue I had: When the bride brought my dress to San Jose days before the wedding I tried it on it was 2 feet past my ankles dragging onto the floor. Also, the halter strap was longer which at the time of being measured at Bridal Veil Fashions I was told all the dress would fall at my knee and the halter strap would fit to my measurement. Who is at fault here- Bridal Veil Fashions or the dress manufacturer? I do know for a fact that another bridesmaid in our party had an ill fitting dress as well and had to get it altered ASAP, this unhappy bridesmaid also ordered her dress from Bridal Veil Fashions. I have issue with the fact they never told me the dress was on back order. I've had experience ordering formal dresses and bridesmaid dresses where other stores were upfront if items were back ordered. I also take issue with the fact they claimed they would call me with updates on my dress, never called with updates and literally left me hanging till the very end. Also too they were often short and slightly rude in all our phone interactions as if I the customer who paid for her dress in advance was inconveniencing them. I had a horrible experience here. The mother is the one who helped me- I've heard the daughter is better to work with but I don't know. First off, they will not let you try anything on until they get your price range, and they won't show you anything outside of it. I didn't like that- I found it rude. Second, I came in with a stack of dress photos as examples of what style of dress I liked, and was told "oh, honey- these are all out of your price range." Well, I stated very plainly that I wanted something LIKE those- a knockoff, whatever. She told me there "are no knockoffs" of gowns- um, LIE! All the advice I got was to bring in examples of the styles I liked and the salespeople were supposed to find similar things. Why couldn't she understand that? By this point I already wanted to leave, but I went ahead and tried on the boring, ugly dresses she picked for me. I told her I wanted something more unique, maybe with some color on it- I stated this about 4 times until she finally showed me a dress just like what I described. I couldn't believe that it took an hour of arguing with her for her to finally show me the type of dress I wanted. She is annoying, condescending and rude. Also, a friend of mine got her dress here and I was with her when they tried to tell her it was not the wrong color, even though the tag CLEARLY stated that it was! They are liars as well! I would recommend the Bridal Veil -- to someone I hated. Okay, those are strong words. To someone I didn't like. At all. Let's break it down: 1. I first walked in with my mom with intention to browse. They asked if we had an appointment (we didn't). Bee-tee-dubs, the store was completely empty. Now, I understand we might of committed a bridal faux pas by just barging in, but I live in Southern California and have limited time with my precious Ma. We were greeted with perfectly snotty attitudes - this should of been our sign to hit the road. However, we persisted... 2. So, we started perusing the selection of dimly lighted dresses. I found a couple of dresses of interest, including an Alfred Angelo that I liked. They only had a dress that was four sizes too big, but we tried it on anyway. I was contemplating the dress and the owner insisted that we make a decision immediately for my wedding that was nearly a year away. She also claimed that she can't predict when designers just stop making certain styles - so, if I wanted the dress, I should order it. I was concerned with the dress length (I'm a six-foot monster), but was assured that dresses are not cut shorter in smaller sizes. 3. We finally got the dress and guess what -- it's too short. Yup. And not just too short with heels -- it's over an inch off the ground when I'm barefoot! Whaaaaaaaaaaaaa? The owner suggested some ridiculous alterations but otherwise offered very little sympathy -- uh, pass. I understand that I am an adult with free will and made the decision to purchase that dress. However, I feel like the wedding dress shopping experience should be enjoyable. It really was not. I felt pressured and deceived. The Bridal Veil left a very bitter taste in my mouth and I encourage you to just say no. In the meantime -- anyone want to buy a dress? read more
