I do not recommend if you are a bride to be and want to be treated with respect, or want to feel special in anyway. I brought my sister here with some of her bridal party to look at wedding dresses for the first time ever. Going on their website it says do not schedule an appointment. Nowhere on their website did it say how many people can come with you. The second we walked in the door. I assume the owner came to us. Asked my sister if she ever tried on dresses before she said no this is her first time and she's very excited. The owner of this establishment, then proceeded to body shame her. Ask her if she was going to lose weight in time for thewedding,? Started squeezing her neck and back and talking about how big she is. Now I don't think anyone should be treated this way if they are plus size however she is not plus size. She has a petite average body type. This ruined the whole bridal experience for her. They would not let us in the store, saying that there was already a bride looking in the back. They did not want us wandering around looking at dresses was what we were told. . We could not do anything and we were told to leave. This really sabotage her excitement for wedding dress shopping. You should not be in any customer service position never mind bridal dress attendant/owner to make brides to refill this way. Shame on you. read more

This is an interesting place, and I'm sure I'll probably be back! It's a consignment store, but not everything is used. There are sample dresses from a couple of other stores, so they may have imperfections but are a really good deal. If you purchase a dress that needs cleaning, they send it out to be cleaned which is included in the purchase price. I went on a Thursday which is one of the nights they have evening hours, and it got crazy in there! I was told Tuesday's are the quieter night to go, because the seamstress is there on Thursdays to fit dresses for brides who've already purchased their dresses. You have to pay extra for alterations, but that's probably typical. There are only four dressing rooms so at one point ladies were waiting for fitting rooms, but I found so many things that I liked once I started trying things on that I was there for over four hours!!! I found a dress that I thought could have been the one, maybe it still is, but it had a little pull on it so I was reluctant to by it, especially considering the amount of altering it needed since it was a size too big. The women there were great, as the one helping me started looking for more in my size once she realized what I really seemed to like and was looking for. The reviews are mixed so I was a little worried, but I'm so glad I stopped in and I would definitely recommend giving this place a shot. Oh, and you didn't hear it from me but there's a coupon you can use in the CT Brides magazine, which they have right in the front of the store! If it wasn't only the second day I went looking for dresses, with a wedding being planned over a year away, there were three dresses I found that I would've been really happy with and worn with confidence on my big day. I had a wonderful experience with Brides to Be - I got my dream dress and the owner of the store was even able to take the price down a little bit to help with taxes. I couldn't be happier with the dress I got and all of the ladies at the shop were very supportive and sweet during the whole process. I couldn't possibly afford a brand new gown of this type, as that would run in the thousands! I finally found an original second hand Monique Lhuillier gown here in something close to my size two, and put it on hold. Phyllis and Becca are lovely to work with and really listened to help find the perfect match of a gown for my needs. After looking all over in other bridal salons, I kept coming back here. I love this dress! The ladies were wonderful and always helped me with personal and caring service. As the dress was still a bit pricy even at less than half the original cost of around $6000, they directed me to a coupon on their website which gave me a substantial percentage discount. I got so many compliments on my gorgeous gown. Famous people have worn this designer for their weddings and I I truly felt like a celebrity wearing this dress! Love this shop! I came in over the weekend with a friend searching for a wedding dress. For a small/mid-size store, they've got a pretty impressive selection in a range of styles, sizes and prices, with some racks designated for high-end designers. While waiting for my friend, I chatted with an employee about consigning my own wedding dress, and was happy to learn that they only accept and feature styles from the last 4 years. This is such a smart move and gives brides-to-be the most current designs without having to shove aside gowns from the '80s (although those would be a blast to try on). My friend alllllmost left with a new dress - tags still on - for $400, which would have been a steal. They've also got racks of prom, bridesmaid, and other special occasion dresses! read more

My parents still live there. I'm the type of person who hangs out with the help in the kitchen. That being said, when I stopped by brides-to-be to find out what it was all about the woman there was obnoxiously snobby, and close-minded. What kind of shop owner doesn't think outside the box? And welcomes more variety? I inquired about perhaps bringing my wedding gown in, and her first question was, when did you purchase it? If you know anything about wedding gowns you know, wedding dresses do not change over 4 years there primarily the same styles, but regardless the dress was purchased 3 years ago which by the way you can purchase this same EXACT gown at David's Bridal today for more than I paid for it 3 years ago. But in snob Ville you cannot bring David's Bridal gowns in at all. Well lady ... apparently you do not need size variation, nor do you need design variation. So sorry to the bride-to-be that wanted my dress, in that size, and that design, because Miss snobby Glastonbury brides-to-be owner decided that you're not to have that choice. A gorgeous White beaded sweetheart strapless, A line, Pick up, with ruching beaded throughout, With a bustle, gorgeous dress, as most wedding gowns are. The same wedding gown you find everywhere, Kleinfelds, Boston Mariella's ,David's, doesn't matter the same design is all over the place. I know for a fact that most bridal places do not have a major selection of sizes and designs in their store. So what harm would it be to have different sizes in the same design? Are you telling me that you're only going to carry one design , per each size? Typical crappie, selective, small town, shops. So if you're going to promote your shop as individualized and very unique then yes I understand that, but you won't be in business very long. That's why people go to Kleinfelds in New York, or they purchase online. Now for me to get my next dress for renewal of wedding vows, I'm not wasting my time going there, why bother. I want sizes and selection, and if I know going to that place, I wont find sizes and selection, I'm going right to Kleinfelds, Or I'll take a chance and purchase online. Better yet I'll go to David Bridal. They have an awesome selection, prices, and sizes and they offer alterations. And that is why in 2 years from now when you go to find brides-to-be I highly doubt it will still be in operation. I am putting a wedding together in just 3 months, as we are timing the wedding for when my fiancé's daughter can be here (she is in the service). Most bridal shops special order and need 4 month's lead time, so... into Brides To Be I go on a Saturday afternoon, just to get an idea of what they have. The owner and one other person were in the shop and they were so helpful! They listened to my description of my perfect dress, they pulled a few different ones that they had and I found The One in under an hour! They were not pushy at all, offered to hold it for me so I could think about it, but I said "heck no, I'm taking it home with me!" The dress I got was never altered or worn, it was a leftover, just waiting for the right person, and for about 1/3 the price it would have been elsewhere. This consignment shop is a great place with lots of selections, but the seamstress should only be doing simple alterations for prom dresses. My wedding is in May of this year, and I started my dress search with Brides to Be back in November. The women working there were so nice and honest when it came to trying on the dresses, so I grew a connection to them. I didn't end up finding my dress at the shop, but still wanted to support them, so when I did find my dress I brought it to Barbara for alterations. Without going into all of the details of my not so great experience, my over all feeling after I left that shop was sadness and just shock. I left with a wedding dress that didn't fit me, and suggestions of using "double sided tape" as a fix and to just "make sure to pull the dress down all night". She was a half hour late to my appointment, which can happen sometimes! I can understand that, but when she finally got to me, she basically pushed me out the door, and told me that the dress looked great and that she was done! When I was obviously upset and concerned about it all of the things that were wrong with it, she just said "theres nothing I can do"... Being in shock, I handed her the money because I just wanted to get out of there, and she took it. Knowing that I was not happy, and that the dress didn't fit me, she took the money and let me leave. I didn't feel like a bride to be, I felt like a fool who paid $350 for her to make a dress that didn't fit me, not fit me even more. I now have to take it to a qualified seamstress, and pay $500. My experience here was a guest of the bride, my soon to be daughter in law. She found a beautiful gown and the person helping her was attentive and helpful. The problem is with their seamstress. They told us the dress would be altered in a week. The first fitting she asked my future DIL if she had gained weight? Such a nice way to cover up your inaccurate alteration! BTW she is tiny and has zero fat! Three fittings later the dress closes but hurts her it is so tight! It was perfect to begin with- why on earth was she taking it in. Now my DIL is in tears 5 weeks from the wedding and she needs a seamstress to help her. They need to get rid of the seamstress! Just don't give this woman your business! read more

Though I did not say yes to a dress there, I would say yes to this place if anyone asks. Brides to Be is a consignment boutique that sells used wedding and prom gowns; some of which are gowns that have never been worn. For those who understand the astronomical cost of a wedding gown and the alterations that go into the dress, I recommend stopping in and taking a look; it may be your luck that you would find the dress of your dreams. For additional savings, go on their website to possible coupons and look at Connecticut Bride magazine. The inside is not special; small, outdated room crammed with dresses separated by size. The dressing rooms are very small, but as a bride to be, it doesn't matter how unfancy this place is because the dresses cost so much less than a typical bridal salon. Becca is a calm, patient dear who waited on me. When none of the dresses fit me, told me not to get discouraged and assured me that I would find the perfect dress. I saw other ladies who had better luck and looked really fabulous after alterations (which made me jealous : /). My recommendation is to go during the day/weekeday because I went on a Saturday with my mom and it was very hectic. I completely loved my experience at Brides to Be. I was totally overwhelmed with the idea of buying a wedding dress, didn't know what I wanted and didn't envision the idea of wedding shopping to be any fun. My experience shopping at BTB was fun and not at all overwhelming. They were helpful and encouraging, even picked out a few more options for me once they figured out my style. I got a gorgeous dress, veil, and hairpiece for $350. Much better than anywhere else I was looking! I really adore Brides to Be. I went in on a random Tuesday (after Tropical Storm Irene no less!) without an appointment. But Phyllis was at hand and was completely into "dressing me up for fun" just to see what I would like. She made me feel completely at ease and made me LIKE dress shopping (prior experiences made me feel weary..). FWIW, I saw a variety of dresses in many different price ranges- from $150-$2,000, David's Bridal to Jim Hjelm. I love that this consignment shop carries sample and lightly used dresses. It was down to two dresses- one from Priscilla of Boston and the other from Marisa (which Phyllis highly recommended because the maker specialized in making dresses for petite women (I'm 5'0"!)..). But I still had my dream dress, Priscilla of Boston's Vineyard Collection Maeve, in the back of my head. Phyllis told me that if she found my dream dress, that she would give me a call. She was SO kind! Ultimately, I ended up finding my dream dress at another (awesome) salon. But if Brides to Be had my dream dress I would have preferred to have bought it here because of my fabulous experience with Phyllis. I WILL do my alterations and buy my accessories here though. I want to give Phyllis what business I am able to since she was so amazing! Edit (4/27): Although Barbara hems dresses very well, I decided to go elsewhere due to lack of funds. I was very excited to visit Brides to Be because I was not exactly sure what style I would like for my wedding dress and didn't want the pressure of a bridal salon etc. My plan was to have some fun and get an idea, and if I got lucky and found one, even better! My three friends and I went on a Saturday and Becca helped us-she was very friendly and after seeing a few dresses I had picked out, went downstairs and brought up more selections. I ended up falling in love with one of the dresses she had brought up, and purchased it within the week. I will be using their seamstress to do my alterations, and am looking forward to working with them for that. All of the ladies are very sweet and knowledgeable. I love this shop! I needed an off-the-rack bridal gown for my wedding that was only 4 weeks away. Becca spent hours on a Friday with me as I tried on everything in the store that came in my size (and larger!). The prices range from $400 (lowest I saw) to designer dresses which were $1000+++. I learned that most of their dresses ~80% are new, never been worn and came directly from the designer. Probably extras or from past seasons? Only about 20% are pre-owned and these are still very high quality, they all look new. I found my dream designer dress at over half off retail price, paying right around $1000 for something worth $2300. They also have a seamstress on site for any necessary alterations. This was my first and last place to go to buy my dress. I love consignment shops period, and I was actually working at a resale shop myself. Becca had come into to my shop first and when she found out I was engaged, invited me to her shop. At that time, I didn't even know a bridal consignment shop existed. So, on a random day, I stopped in just to try on dresses for the hell of it. Becca and Phylis made my day. They were so nice and didn't pressure you to buy something if you weren't sure. My whole life I thought I knew what dress I wanted, and then I ended up buying a dress on my first attempt at a bridal store. I ended buying this gorgeous Blue By Enzoani dress. It retailed for almost $2,000 and I got it here for $750. It was perfect for me, didn't need alterations, and everyone loved it on me. I kept hearing "Wow! That dress is so you!" I'm so happy I was introduced to this place. I got a dress, I never thought I'd get. Love, love, love this place and I highly recommend it!!!! read more

I loved going here. They have a huge selection of dresses, some are consignment, a lot are sample dreses - they clean the dresses for you when you purchase if need be. I saw dresses from $200 to mmm...I would say $3,000 - but that was a Reem Acra (hoity-toity designer) The ladies that work here are wonderful - everyone is so nice and you feel like the genuinely want to help you. I tried on some dresses they hadn't seen on anyone yet and everyone came to take a peek which was amusing but nice because they are excited too. They have a variety of sizes here which is nice if you are a bigger bride. They sell some accessories here as well. They also have some bridemaid, mother-of-the-bride, flower girl dresses. If you can get in here during the day during the week you will have a better time, it can be quite busy thursday night and saturday. read more

Brides to Be is the first place I was actually able to try on dresses without an appointment!* I HATE making appointments for things (not sure why...I just do). I walked in with my sister and was immediately greeted by two of the NICEST bridal consultants ever (and of couse I cant remember their names). They allowed us to browse pick a few things and set up a dressing room for us. Easy Peasy. Seriously, these ladies are really nice and really helpful. NO PRESSURE at all. The dresses...well they're consignment so they dont have the greatest selection; that said, they had many pretty dresses and I'm sure that many women find their dream dress in BTB. I didn't buy my dress but I would without a doubt recommend it to someone who (1) doesn't want to make an appointment (2) doesn't have a particular dress in mind (3) doesn't mind pre-owned dresses. *although this was the first place I didn't have to make an appointment to try on a dress, I also found another shop the same day that I was also able to try on dresses without an appointment. I lived in Glastonbury and went to Brides to Be for my first dress search in Early 2007. (I was married in November 2007). I tried on most of the dresses they had available in my size and did not find one that I liked--but it helped the owner get an idea of what styles I was interested in (being a bridal newbie and not really I didn't know all the 'terms') and she wrote them down on a business card so I could come in later to see if they'd gotten anything new in. I did not end up buying my dress here, as I found one I liked in another store before I went back. I did, however, buy my veil here--it had a lovely pearl border and probably would have been really expensive new, but I got a great deal--and since it was "ivory" you couldn't tell it was used (perhaps a diamond white veil wouldn't have looked as good). My favorite thing from Brides to Be however, was the white cape I rented! I got the idea to wear a white cape a few weeks before my wedding and didn't want to spend hundreds of dollars, so I googled rented capes and lo and behold that was another service Brides to Be offered--and they had the white satin cape available the weekend of my wedding--phew. It was really beautiful and I got a lot of compliments on it--so I recommend it to all winter brides. My only slight concern with this store had to do with the cape though, it came in a full zip garment bag--however since I left on my honeymoon after the wedding, my mom was kind enough to bring it back to the store--except there were so many things she had to take care of (getting them back from the hotel to our houses, etc), she brought it in the wrong garment bag and the person at the store who told her this was rude about it and made my mom feel very bad. My mom quickly went back to the house and found the correct garment bag and all was well, but considering how many garments and accessories there are involved with a wedding, I felt the woman could have been more understanding. Even if my mom went home and couldn't find the correct garment bag--we would have paid to replace it, its not like we were out to steal a stupid garnment bag!! GET A GRIP!!! I would definitely recommend checking this place out--you never know what you'll find! But if you rent anything-make sure you return every bit of it our you'll get a tongue lashing! read more

I went to Brides to Be in January/February of 2019 in search of my wedding dress. I loved the quiet atmosphere, and I didn't feel rushed, pressured or overwhelmed. Cindy helped me out and was super attentive and amazing! 5 stars for Cindy! I tried on several dresses and ended up picking one and buying it that day. I had such a good experience that I didn't think twice about going to their seamstress to take in my dress. That was a huge mistake. The first fitting was April 25th 2019. I needed my dress shortened, the bodice taken in and sleeves added (I bought my dress strapless). For the record, I am 5'3'' and 120 pounds. Average and not overweight. She started putting pins into my dress before I even said what I wanted her to do. I had to keep reminding her I wanted sleeves added to my dress because she kept forgetting. I felt like she was in a rush the whole time. She didn't take a tape measure out the whole time. I know some talented seamstresses can get away with that, but it made me uneasy. I gave her a $100 cash deposit at that time, and she told me the remaining balance would be $300. The second visit wasn't until June 20th 2019. The bustle was completed and it looked nice. The shortening of the dress wasn't finished because pins had fallen out (ok, fine it happens), the sleeves hadn't been put in because she wanted to make sure that she gave me what I wanted (again, fine, totally normal) . . . but the biggest problem is that the bodice now wouldn't zip up even halfway, when it was big on me before! The first thing she asks is "have you gained weight?" First of all, no, I hadn't. Second of all, I find that completely unprofessional. She then proceeded to ask if it was "my time of the month." Again, no. Afterward, she made another comment about how LONG it took her to shorten the dress (the dress has a lot of tulle and layers). This gave me the impression she had underestimated the amount of time it would take her, and therefore underestimated the final price she charged me - which she established after the initial fitting! It made me every subsequent visit feel like she was sick and tired of dealing with my dress - she already spent too much time for too little money, so why should she put much more effort in? Feeling somewhat embarrassed and guilty about how time-consuming and troublesome my dress (and apparently my body) was, I paid her the remainder of the balance. Another huge mistake. The third visit was July 11th. The sleeves were completed and came out quite nice. The shortening was complete and was the appropriate length, but I was saddened by how the edge looked. In order to shorten it, the beautiful lace applique had to be removed along the edge. I was prepared for this and she told me there was nothing she could do about it - but a second opinion has since told me something a little different. The bodice STILL WOULD NOT ZIP UP. It was constricting my rib cage - not my belly or my breasts (I'm not a particularly large-breasted woman). She said she would try to let it back out again and told me to come back August 1st (Note: August 1st is about A MONTH BEFORE MY WEDDING). I left embarrassed and sad and not in love with my dress the way I had been when I first bought it. August 1st the bodice finally zipped up all the way (after sucking in my breath and wrestling with it). I could not take normal breaths, let alone deep breaths and it was so constricting it gave me back cleavage. It did not flatter my body at all and I felt anything but comfortable. Additionally, a button for the bustle had fallen out, so I had to sit and wait for her to sew a new one on. The seamstress and another employee gushed about how beautiful I looked. At that point I was taking this dress home regardless, so I left without saying anything, and I cried the whole way home. Now I am bringing it to another seamstress 24 days before my wedding, and losing time off work and more money to fix her mistakes. This new seamstress noted that the bodice was taken in at the completely wrong part and she now has to let it back out 2.5 inches! She also told me that the way Barbara had cut the lace was not well done and was frankly, lazy. Not only this, but she told me she doesn't take any money until the job is completely done, which is what Barbara should do and what any bride wanting to learn from my mistake should do. I have another appointment with this new seamstress in August, but it may not be completed until the DAY BEFORE MY WEDDING. No bride should leave the dress shop a month before their wedding in tears and with the dress fitting WORSE than it did than when she bought it. I'm not one to leave such reviews or affect people's businesses, but it was a disservice to me to take my money and take on a project that she was either underqualified for or didn't have enough time to give to. If you are looking for a simple hem, she is fine, but if you have a more complicated dress, find someone else. read more

First off, I went to Brides to Be for my first wedding dress 13 years ago! I had such a good experience the first time I thought I'd try my luck again. (Can't say the same for the marriage, ha ha). Becca, a sales associate, immediately greeted me and I remembered her right away from the first time! She always stuck in my mind because back then she insisted a certain dress would look good on me and I was having none of it. I did not think the dress was my style at all. She finally asked me "would you try it on for me?" and she was so sweet, I gave it a shot. Lo and behold, the dress fit me perfectly (not one alteration needed) and it was PERFECT. I bought it on the spot! And it was only $250! Hoping for the same luck this time around, I gave her a basic idea of what I wanted and told her I completely trusted her judgment as far as what she thought would look good on me. Within an hour, she did it again! Picked out the perfect dress, right in my price range! She's awesome. It's funny because she said she always tells people about the girl that really didn't want to try the dress on that she had in mind....and it was ME! I would highly recommend Brides to Be to anyone!! We went with my friend who had the unfortunate luck of having Suzanne wait on her. She was rude. Horribly rude to me, my friend and even my friend's friend all at different times. We are a quiet polite bunch but she managed to be mean or insult all three of us. That being said, the dress selection wasn't bad (various styles and price categories) and all of the other sales associates working there seemed so very sweet and pleasant. I was there for support basically and trying to stay out of the way. I was admiring the beadwork on a dress because of its intricate beauty and Suzanne snatched it out of my hands, shoved it back on the rack snapping, "That's a size 4, don't even look at it. " Imagine my humiliation. I stepped outside to gain composure. I have class even if she doesn't. My friends cited several similar instances. I found my dream dress here and it was truly amazing! The price, AMAZING! The alterations, AMAZING! The ladies, AMAZING!

I was married last June, so this review is a bit late. However, I had a wonderful experience there and as a very picky bride, that is quite the compliment. I think I found my dress within the first few dresses I tried on. I worked with Phyllis and Barbara (for alterations). I had multiple visits because I needed a few fittings, and I had found loose beadwork which they were more than happy to re-secure. The only setback to this store is that it is not completely bridal, and you have to share the spotlight with other people that are very close to your vicinity. The two stools they had with mirrors are set very close to each other (nothing that the store can do, its just how it's designed), so I had to stand opposite a teen in a prom dress while I was in a wedding gown. It was not the optimal situation for when I discovered "the one," but for a total of $700, I guess I cant complain much. That includes alterations! Would definitely recommend to a friend getting married. The selection here is not as "cookie-cutter" as a David's Bridal or similar store, so if you want something a little "different" and don't want to pay the designer price tag, Brides to Be is for you! read more

Brides to Be was the first bridal salon I visited after getting engaged recently. I can not say enough good things about the quality of the customer service. Although the store is not the fancy boutique you see on Say Yes to the Dress, the ladies at Brides to Be make you feel so special by their attentive customer service, knowledge, and easy-going atmosphere. I am on a tight budget and it was nice to see that Brides had a great selection of dresses I could manage to afford. It sounds like their selection changes frequently so I will definitely be back before my wedding to enjoy another shopping experience at Brides to Be. Definitely worth taking a look! read more

Judy was the woman who helped me look at wedding gowns. She was absolutely fantastic. I haven't met anyone who was more willing or more perceptive than she was. I was looking for a specific type of dress and she thought of other dresses that were very similar to my taste level. A lot of places, the saleslady will bring stuff that are pretty, but not my taste. She knew what I would like and brought additional dresses that were in their basement. What I liked about this store was the way they arranged the dresses BY SIZE, their large selection of dresses in my size (10), and the fact that you can look for a dress for yourself. At a lot of other bridal salons, I feel a bit intimidated by the saleslady breathing down your neck when every time you want something they have to get it for you.This was NOT the case at all here. I would have really preferred to be able to more visibly see the silhouettes of the dresses instead of trying to pull out each dress to see and then having to push back dresses into the racks. Their price range is rather fair, especially considering wedding dresses can be pretty pricey. I would say that the dresses that I really liked were from $400 to just under $1000. Normally, I would give a store like this only 3 stars, because I have not bought a dress yet (haven't decided whether to have a large wedding or just town hall due to personal reasons), but Judy's service was so great that I had to add another star. As mentioned previously, I have not bought a dress from here or anywhere else yet. Therefore, I cannot comment on the actual purchasing, receiving, tailoring, etc aspect of any transactions. I also showed up on a weekday, so it wasn't too busy. I recommend you do so too if you don't want to fight with people for a fitting room and mirror, since it is a small shop. I walked in to find my prom dress and immediately fell in love with their atmosphere! Everyone working there was so sweet, I told them exactly what I wanted and they got it for me. My dress was the second one I tried on. To make it all better all of the clients were all so so sweet. Overall I'm in love with this shop!! read more

Very kind and helpful staff! In high school I purchased a formal dress from here, and I've consigned a few bridesmaid dresses with success. Years later now I now live 3,000 miles away and I am a Bride to Be. I was absolutely stumped as to where I should ship my dress and have it steamed in CT. Brides To Be popped up on my yelp while searching and I remember how kind the ladies were there, so I thought I'd give them a call for suggestions.
