Where do I begin. I started my shopping for my wedding dress at a consignment shop that was highly recommended to myself and other brides on a Facebook group that I am part of. Because my then fiance and I were on a strict budget for our wedding, I figured I could find something "good enough" at a second hand store, or a consignment shop and stay well below my budget. Well that was a disaster! That shop made me feel underappreciated and less than beautiful! Two things that I thought a bride was supposed to experience with dress shopping. I left that shop and knew I had another appointment to go to at The Wedding Dress in Portland. I went to lunch with my neice, had a cocktail in hopes that it would ease my mind - it didn't. I felt disgusting. We arrived at The Wedding Dress and sat in the parking lot for an hour before the appointment. I almost drove away a few times just because I was so disheartened. Boy am I glad I didn't!!! I walked into the shop at my appointment time and the first few thing I remember were the smell, it was so clean and fresh and relaxing (not moth balls and misty!), the brightness of the dresses (and there was A LOT of dresses), and the sound of three voices greeting me with excitement and happiness! Those three voices turned out to be Shelley, Abbie and Lisa. I almost wanted to cry. I explained to the three ladies how my past experience was and they told me "That is not how it is supposed to be! We got this! You pick out some dresses you want to try on and we'll take it from there!" They made me feel appreciated. They made me feel beautiful. They made me feel so important. It was an amazing experience! The dress I chose was a Justin Alexander dress, which was ironic because the original dress I wanted was his design as well but totally different (lace actually). The dress was strapless and I needed straps to be designed and put on and the seamstress that works with The Wedding Dress, Dora, was AMAZING! After ordering the dress and when the dress came in, my experience just blossomed more with the ladies! I really can't sing their praises enough! I am not a skinny size 4 kind of bride. So I was discouraged to start with but not once when I tried on dresses did I ever feel that I was overweight or not beautiful! Abbie, Shelley and Lisa know how to make you feel absolutely stunning and help you every step of the way! I couldn't be happier with my experience and will stop in to visit the ladies from time to time! I went to around 4 bridal salons previous to this one and I couldn't find one that matched my classic look until I came here! All the dresses I tried on were so beautiful. Best dress shop ever! Incredibly friendly staff that actually seem to enjoy what they do and want to help. My BFF is getting married this year and we literally walked in off the street and had a better experience than shops that we made appointments at (cough*cough*dont got to David's bridal). They helped us find several dresses in her size, and even called later when they found a dress in Back- which turned out to be "THE DRESS". Fantastic customer service, good hearts and good humor! I grew up in Portland, CT and have always wanted to get my wedding dress here. I moved 1,500 miles away, but still came back to visit and bought my dress in June! The dresses are all beautiful, there's a wide variety of styles, and Abbie is amazing! read more

Dress came in. Dress is beautiful. The mfg did a great job dying my dress a color of another dress they mfg. Mfg making a shawl that matches my dress. I'm sure it will be lovely. Seamstress they recommended has my dress. Shoulders need to be pulled up and she do hem. Looking forward to 2nd fitting this weekend. read more

I had a private appointment on a Sunday. My family and I had the whole store to ourselves with a complimentary bottle of champagne. It made the moment of trying wedding dresses all the more special having the store only open for us. Abbie was amazing and so helpful and helped me find the perfect dress. The Wedding Dress was a great experience! My consultant was Abbie and she couldn't of been more perfect. She made me feel comfortable and gave truthful opinions. She was very personable and did not pressure you into buying anything. They have a wide variety of dresses with a wide range of prices. They also offer a $150.00 store credit as well if you purchase a dress at the time of your appt, which was a great bonus since I found THE dress! You can use it towards anything in the store and you don't have to use it the same day. I went dress shopping with just my cousin on a Monday morning and it was great because we had the whole store to ourselves! Since my Mom wasn't with me at the time they were very accommodating and let me come back a couple hours later to try it on and show her. I found my dress at The Wedding Dress this weekend and could not be more happy with the experience. If you are looking for a relaxed, fun experience this is the place to go. If you on the other hand feel that looking for a dress should be uncomfortable and stuffy then perhaps this is not the place for you. I live in Manhattan, however my family lives in Ct. Therefore, many people had asked me if I would going to Kleinfelds for my dress. For many reasons including price, horrible reviews, and most important I wanted my mom with me I chose to look for my dress at The Wedding Dress. My salesperson, Maryann was wonderful. She was extremely kind, made me feel special, honest, and I never once felt pressured to purchase anything. The prices are extremely reasonable as well. My mom is a avid "Say Yes to the Dress" watcher and she couldn't believe that I got such a beautiful dress for a little over $1,000. She assumed a dress with all the detailing that I had would be closer to $5k. I highly recommend that anyone give this store a chance. read more

This was my first store for my wedding dress shopping and I absolutely recommend this place. I didn't end up getting THE dress here, however they had a great selection. Their prices were reasonable and my saleslady/bridal sales consultant, Nicole, was great! I was nervous for my first dress shopping experience and had no idea what to expect, but she made me feel comfortable and was super nice. I tried on tons of dresses and she was very patient, never pushy, and was willing to put me in the same dress a few times when we couldn't decide. Superb customer service! I was looking for something off the rack for a wedding that was only 3 months away and was in a bit of a panic because it was the only weekend my mother was in town and a competing salon in Middletown lost my appointment in their computer system. Not only were they incredibly kind and accommodating of my crazy last minute request, they set me up for a same day appointment when they were in the middle of moving to their new location! Not once did they act inconvenienced or rush me, even though I'm sure they had to scramble to make my appointment work. Wonderful place! read more

Great variety of dresses at great prices! I stopped here with my sister (the bride) without an appointment but Nicole helped us out anyway. She was of great assistance in picking and trying out dresses. She also helped us take some great pictures too. When it came to bridesmaid dresses we were really unsure of combination of colors we would want and unfortunately the swatches provided by designers was not very helpful but she helped us get an idea by using the fabric from the sample dresses that they had. IF you want good service do not go here. They got the wrong sizes on our dresses for bms and did not want to exchange the dresses. All they said was that they went by the size chart, which obviously is wrong. not the same as the swatch---again their answer was that they cant do anything about returning the dresses or exchanging and that they have no control. The color the bride chose was The price to alter was pretty high . I would not reccommend this shop. GO to Davids Bridal. read more

I loved this shop. The selection was good, there were some very different things in here. Prices were good - I would say $300 on up. The woman who helped me was great, gave honest opinions, made great suggestions (her name escapes me unfortunately). It was just a pleasant place to be, very comfortable. Nice people, small shop. Lots of dresses. The girl that helped us was nice but very unprofessional dressed and talked about her night the night before. Said if we wanted liquor there was a packy down the street (we didn't ask). If your going to try on dresses the person helping you should not be wearing ratty jeans. Just didn't make it feel special. I had a great time shopping at the Wedding Dress. I really liked my saleslady (Lisa) who was super friendly and down to earth, unlike some other wedding shop people. She let me take my time to choose a large number of dresses to try on, and I was happy that they carried most of the dresses that I was looking for by Casablanca and Essence of Australia. I found a few dresses that I liked, and I came back a month later when my mother was in town to see them again. In the end I went with a dress at another store, but shopping at the Wedding Dress was by far one of the most enjoyable experiences I've had while shopping! read more

My granddaughter fell in love with two dresses she saw in their window. She tried a few on along with the ones she loved. Thank goodness the sales woman/owner suggested the another dresses. The young lady Lisa who later helped with her fitting & eventual pick up was fabulous. The one we bought looked perfect on her & she loves it! I had a wonderful time shopping at The Wedding Dress. The sales women were wonderful. They gave their honest opinion of the dresses I tried on, were helpful and very patient. They listened to what my dream dress was and helped me to find the perfect dress to match those dreams. I tried on at least 15 different dresses and not once did they get impatient. They even offered to make a dress special for me if I could not find what I was looking for. I did find the perfect dress and accessories and purchased them there.
