During my last two visits to their auction house, absentee bids (some extremely high) were not bid competitively but started at artificially high bids - not from the floor or other absentee bidders. My partner was impressed when he most recently had them auction off a guitar that belonged to his mother. I was told on the offset what it was worth and the gentleman said he would make the bid for $400.
