Families and groups of friends are not welcome -- even normal conversation outside "quiet hours" can get you kicked out. My family arrived at 9pm, set up quietly, and went to bed. I was two sites away from friends who were simply talking, and I couldn't hear a thing. Still, management evicted our entire group -- 9 campsites in total. By morning, a sheriff was outside our trailer. To his credit, he was calm, professional, and quickly saw we were just working professionals with kids. He even helped us find a friendlier campground that had a far better view of the water. Meanwhile, this park hands out a bizarre two-page "sin list" that literally calls children a "deadly sin." Bottom line: This place feels more like jail than a campground. Unless you plan on absolute silence, you risk being thrown out. Stay at one of the nearby RV parks -- they're friendlier and offer better views.

While we were simply sitting outside and talking, the manager showed up unannounced, never introduced themselves, and immediately accused us of being too loud. Instead of handling the situation in a respectful or professional way, they became extremely aggressive and threatening. We were told to leave on the spot, and when we asked for clarification, they claimed that if we didn't leave immediately, we would be considered trespassing. The manager escalated further by yelling at us, and eventually called the sheriff. Adding to the hostility, the park even has something in writing called the "7 Deadly Sins of RV Camping" -- shockingly, one of those "sins" listed is children. That alone says a lot about how little regard they have for families or guest comfort. Unfortunately we will never know if our kids are considered "well behaved" in their eyes since we left before our kids could even set foot on this place. This place is absolutely not for families with children or for multiple families looking to relax and hang out together by the campfire. It seems they do not want people spending time outside their RVs at all, which defeats the whole purpose of camping. Everything said about the managers in the other reviews is true -- they are rude, unprofessional, and create a hostile environment for guests. This type of treatment is completely unacceptable and made our stay very unpleasant. Save yourself the stress -- don't waste your time or money here. There are plenty of other RV parks that treat their guests with courtesy and respect.

This site was small but we made it work. We had a van and a sedan and 3 tents. We were pretty close to other campers and it was quiet by 9pm. We were just steps away from the beach which is wide and mostly free from debris. We even saw whales! The location is great for watching sunsets. Bathroom is clean. Bring your own hand soap. No showers. Water spigot close by. You can get firewood on site. Closest grocery is Pelican about 15 minutes away. There's raccoons. They got into our cooler and ate our grapes and took off with our butter that was in a ziplock bag. Don't under estimate them. Use the wooden food cabinet or lock your coolers. Note: No cellular reception.

This area of California is relatively untouched-- much of the area is forest that runs all the way to steep cliffs atop the rugged rocky NorCal coastline. Due to the protective headlands and it's unique alignment on the coast, Gerstle Cove doesn't receive the full force of the Pacific swell; this has created a unique natural area with quiet waters for tide pools, pinniped haul out, and some great nature watching for visitors. Gerstle Cove has had some minor changes to its designation as a Marine Protected Area over the last several years. This is a quiet cove to launch a kayak or a small inflatable, and we've used both to head out a little offshore to fish. Great diving at different times of the year too, but check conditions and weather before you go. It's distance from civilization will likely keep this place wild for years to come. If you go, best to take only photographs and leave only footprints... and watch your step on the rocks-- they can be slippery or covered with living critters!

The views from my site (bluff10) were stunning. Restroom and shower were right behind my site. It was perfect. Harbor seals were hanging out on a rock just down from my site. Weird....just freaken weird…read more Ok, so our party consisted of 8 people and we booked two camp sites and both sites were down by the beach. WARNING! The beach is tiny so don't expect too much. The camp sites are very small and it may be too cramped for some people, so just a heads up. ANYWAYS, so everything was fine till the end. We had packed up our gear and were ready to load our cars. We had our trash ready to toss. We go up to toss the trash only to find out she can't take our trash BUT was willing to take our recyclables. So we were expected to sift through our trash and separate it. We all decided we weren't gonna do that and ended up taking our trash home with us. The real issue here is the lack communication. Why didn't the owner ever communicate with us during booking or prior to us setting up to keep the trash separated? We would've easily done that from the beginning. Also, why do you not have the capacity to handle the trash from campers? You have 9 campsites so possibly up to 40 people staying at your campground. Did you not expect any trash from the campers? So my warning to large parties who are considering this camp ground, consider the real possibility that you may be taking your trash home with you. Cause we did.

I originally booked a room at Ocean Cove Lodge for May 25-26 because the Booking.com listing…read moreindicated that the room had a hot tub. Before my arrival, I spoke with the property by phone and was told that the room I had booked actually did not have a hot tub. Since having a hot tub was important to me and was one of the reasons I made the reservation, I had to book a different room at the same property for the same dates that did have one. I discussed the situation directly with Sam, the owner/manager, and he told me that he would resolve the issue and that the original reservation would be refunded. Booking.com subsequently told me that they could process the refund, but they needed written confirmation from the property stating that the refund was approved. Booking.com contacted the property requesting this confirmation, and I also contacted Sam myself. Unfortunately, despite Sam having already promised me that the issue would be resolved and the original booking refunded, he never followed through. I sent multiple emails asking him to simply confirm the refund to Booking.com, including follow-up messages after receiving no response. None of my emails were answered. This was not a case of me simply changing my plans or deciding that I no longer wanted the room. I rebooked because I was specifically informed by the property that the room I had originally reserved did not have the amenity it had been advertised with. I then relied on Sam's assurance that the original reservation would be refunded. Mistakes in online listings can happen. What made this experience particularly disappointing was the way it was handled afterward. Sam personally told me that he would take care of the problem, yet when Booking.com needed a simple written confirmation to issue the refund, he stopped responding altogether. I gave Sam and the property multiple opportunities to resolve this privately before writing a review. Unfortunately, my repeated attempts to contact him went unanswered. Based on my experience, I would be very cautious booking here. The inaccurate listing was frustrating, but the much bigger issue was the lack of follow-through, communication, and accountability after the owner/manager had personally promised to resolve the problem.

I recently went on a small getaway with my boys (12 and 15) and they were not in the best mood…read morebecause they thought they would get bored. That completely changed upon leaving and the comment they both made as were driving away was "that was fun Mom!". Our cottage was very cute, extremely clean and there was even a record player and lots of vinyl to listen to (and listen I did!!). The general smell of fresh, crisp air was intoxicating in itself, but waking up to the aroma of freshly baked bread and pastries was mouth-watering. And the taste, texture, and variety did not disappoint either. The night before we enjoyed live music, a few games of Uno, some wonderful freshly baked pizzas, and to top it all off a slice of chocolate raspberry cake (all made by our wonderful host Mark). The next morning started with rain, so we took advantage by opening up a puzzle from the countless games in the community area and dug in. Once the rain stopped, the sun peeked out and we took a little walk to a nearby waterfall, enjoying the cool, green silence while investigating different vegetation and minerals as we walked. That evening we sat around in the community area enjoying more freshly baked goodies and other guests. The last morning, Mark and his small son were kind enough to wrestle some energy out of my boys and beat them over the head with pillows and cushions, while I laughed hysterically from my safe little corner. I barely looked at my phone for 2 days straight. How wonderful! And.... my hair and skin was amazingly soft after washing with the mountain water coming out of our tap. And how could I forget about the fairy ring of redwood trees (group of trees growing in a circle around the stump of an old growth tree, this is how they regenerate) right next to the grove. The oldest standing tree was 1,200 years old, meaning that the center "mama" tree that used to be there was probably two or three times older and BIGGER than the already standing behemoths. Mark made it feel like home away from home for us and my boys asked me if we could go back soon, probably to continue the wrestling match. I just want more fresh onion focaccia! And brownies. And cookies. And walnut tartes. And......

5 stars and more!!!!…read more We spent one night at Elim Grove Cottages this fall and had the most wonderful time. The first night we arrived, Mark was there to welcome us with one of his kids and invited us to join him for a campfire out in their backyard. It felt like we were family. After a long drive, it was really nice to receive a cold beer and a warm welcome like that. Our cottage was cozy and really inviting. The highlight for us was definitely the outdoor area. There are fruit and vegetable gardens, an outdoor fire pit and little outdoor spaces where one can read and just be. You can see that the owner has put a lot of love in this place. We were mostly left on our own and it was really nice exploring the area. There's a creek right next to the property and little trails that you can take if you so wish. And sky-high redwood trees everywhere! Breakfast was a treat of freshly-baked items that Mark himself made, and it's amazing. And we learned later on that Mark has won several awards for his bakery. It was a real treat meeting Mark and his kids in person, he has such a giving spirit that just inspires you tremendously. I was personally really moved by his story and his life motivation. It's not often that you meet someone with so much clarity in his life purpose, and it was really inspiring to meet someone like Mark. Even though we found this place after reading several reviews, we were still very much surprised by our time here. The cottages and owner truly surpassed everything we expected out of a typical B&B, and we can't wait to return soon. Highly recommended for those who just want to get away from it all. And for those who are doing the coastal drive along Northern California, make a little detour and stay at this place. You'll thank me for this.
