    The view of Bridgeport Resevoir

This was our first time staying at Bridgeport Resevoir. The staff was very friendly, Spots were clean, and it's not super crowded like a few other places closer to the Twin Lakes. They have a little store that sells snacks, a few amenities, and ice cream. Power and water hookups at our site with the option to use their shower rooms for $4. The down side is the water in the Resevoir was so low you couldn't go out on a boat and there aren't many trees. On the plus side they are planting a lot more trees and putting some time/love into their place.

    The Sunset here

My family and I just came back from our 4 day camping trip here. Here's our feedback: PRO: - provided showers and restrooms ( weren't the cleanest but they worked) - beautiful scenery to the mountains ( lake shallow during this time of the year) - provided table Con: - closeness to other sites. You can hear the campers next to you. - you can hear trucks and cars passing by, very loud. - Swarms of bugs would gather at night with any flash of light. ( bugs are out of control given the lake being so close) - rules didn't apply to all. The quiet hours start at 10 pm, and other campers were still playing music past this time. Seems like no personnel came to enforce these rules. - the workers came to trim trees at random times throughout the day, and they played their own music on their phone. On our campsite, while enjoying our breakfast. Which was rude! Please fix that. Tips: Stars are best to see around 230-3:30 am . We woke up to see the Milky Way. It was fascinating. I almost didn't wake up, but when I did I was happy that I did. I appreciated that they let us borrow a skillet during our stay, since we forgot ours.

Owner Chase & friendly staff have made great improvements since last year! Prices are great & they offer long pull thru's with complete hook ups to dry level tent spots & dry RV camping! They have a few nice yurts! Their views, sunsets, & mountain peaks are phenomenal! Town is only 2 miles, with 10 great spots for dining or drinking! Watching small planes take off & land from camp... cool! If you like to stargaze... this is the place! A cute, clean little store with a nice book exchange is convenient for most forgotten items. We like everything here but the flying bugs, but when you're on the lake in summer... they're there. Kayaking is great!!!!!

This location is awesome. Rates are reasonable and they have ice, firewood and best of all, showers and clean bathrooms. We originally had reservations in the dry tenting area, the owner was nice enough to call us the morning of our arrival and offer a lake view spot. Check in was a breeze and she gave us a map with places to check out around the area. Great service. Can't wait to come back!

This is one of those random finds that looks so-so but then turns out absolutely great. The tent camps are right by the lake and run $20. The staff (Jeffrey especially) was super friendly. We rented a fishing boat for another $20 for 1/2 an hour and they told us to keep it as long as we want. The bathrooms were about the nicest camp bathrooms I've seen. The place is in the desert so it's a bit dusty, and the lake is 1/4 filled with lake grasses and lilies, but apparently has some really good fishing. Tooling around the lake (actually doing boat-donuts) we saw a bald eagle, plus a bunch of other birds and critters. Bottom line - they aren't fancy or deluxe, more homespun than anything - but they are friendly and won't damage your bank account.

Lots of pros and cons with the park. The good news is that is conveniently located a Short distance off of 395. The view of the lake and mountains in the distance is very nice. The lake is pretty low this time of the year, but still pretty. Great water pressure which is nice to have in the rv. I also borrowed a tool and it was easily taken care of. They also have a military discount. "NEVER FORGET." Some things we didn't like were the dirt roads in the parking area which had lots of dust blowing when the other rv'ers were driving their ATB's and cars. Picnic tables are worn and looks like they have seen better times. The sites were not exactly level, but manageable with levelers. We had 30 amp and it was steady and didn't fluctuate. Lots of bugs from the lake being so close. Laundry is $2 a load to wash and $2 to dry payable in the office. Only one washer and one dryer. We didn't use the showers because they charge $2 to use them. Sometimes it's nice to have a Little elbow room to shower, but not for $2. Finally they add on an additional charge to swipe your credit card for their 'square' which is about 2.8% of your total bill. Other than that things I mentioned above we liked the area with the exception of gas price gouging. Almost $5 a gallon for regular. I do appreciate the fact that they worked with me when he had to leave early. The two star rating is just for the facility.

So with the Sierras being artificially crowded this year we were forced to find RV spaces in spots away from our normal haunts. This was down the road from June Lake but still in Beautiful Bridgeport and we were a bit worried as the reservoir has always felt Crowley barren to us. But what a hidden gem of beauty and excellent service delivered by owner Chase and the very sweet Judy. From the start of working out a space (no easy task during covid travel times) to our last day, they were awesome and the park was truly great given that we are a family that many times has to dry camp. The 'full' hookups worked flawlessly, the entire park was clean and well apportioned with all the essentials from bags for the dogs 'duty' to easy to find trash cans...anything we needed for an easy stay was at our disposal. Restaurants in town are beyond adequate and as a fisherman you can't beat Bridgeport for options. Streams, lakes and rivers flies, lures, bate, trolling. We did it all. Point is great option as a place to base out of and great people to work with.

Best fishing experience. Visited in late August and the days were warm but the clouds rolled in during the afternoon and conditions can get windy and rainy. Lots of vegetation in bloom during the summer months making motoring a bit tricky. But still a great fishing experience, lots of action and never pulled in anything smaller than a 2 lb rainbow trout. Can't wait to get back. Friendly staff at the Bridgeport Reservoir Marina with a $10 launch fee. I'm told this place is under new ownership, real nice guy and great looking campgrounds.

    Beautiful sunset

This place was wonderful! The staff is very friendly and helpful. We met a lot of great people camping and the views are absolutely stunning. Bring a screen tent, it can get very buggy.

We showed up as first come first serve and we're lucky to get a beautiful spot right on the lake. They have nice deep fire rings, picnic tables and bear lockers. We didn't see any sign of bears. The sites are $27 a night and you can buy wood for six dollars a bundle or two bundles for $10. There is a 14 day limit on first come first serve sites. This time around, the road to Upper Blue Lake was open, so we headed up there to check it out. There are a couple campgrounds up there that have nice sites and include bathroom facilities. We ran into a couple of backpackers who convinced us to take the "short" hike to Granite Lake to do some fishing. We grabbed our fishing poles and gear and headed out thinking that short would be a quarter mile or so. The hike actually turned out to be 2 1/2 miles with about a 700 foot elevation gain. If we had known the distance, we probably would not have done the hike, but once there, we got a couple of very nice rainbow trout. We did not have any cell phone coverage in our camp, but at the 9100 foot elevation of Granite Lake we did have some pretty good cell coverage.

Since it has been receiving little to no water from Walker River since 2011, the fish and the fishing has become obsolete. Walker Lake is a natural lake in the Great Basin. It is 11 miles in length and only 5 miles wide. At its deepest, it is 68 feet. History tells us many years ago that the Northern Paiutes ancestors inhabited the area around the lake and depended on the fish and birds it provided to live. Through the Walker Basin Restoration Program they were able to deliver water to the lake in 2019 for the first time and they aim to restore Walker Lake to a state where it can house fish and birds again. I've done a few summer weekend trips here, but as a child. So don't remember many details, just that it was always a blast, camping with a large group and delving into lake activities. As an adult, I've mostly come to this area during the winter/spring months, and that's only because Dodge Ridge Ski Resort is in the same area. But never really knew how close the actual lake is to the ski resort...until recently when I finally did both in a one weekend stint. The actual lake is man-made, it is a reservoir meant to harness water, snow melt is my guess due to the regular snow fall every winter in these mountains. Then PG&E bulit a dam and used this for hydroelectric energy and you can see the raging water on the bottom of the dam if you hike over to that corner. We hiked only half of the lake on a gorgeous clear winter's day. I wanted to hike the entire circumference of the lake, which is only a little over 3 miles, but we had a small child in our group, so we kept it manageable. The trail is well kept and very easy to stay on, not many off shoots to other trails. It climbs in a few spots but nothing too difficult (at least to me). The lake is in view in practically every spot on the trail, so very very scenic and picturesque. Even though a man-made lake, seeing the clouds drift by the snowcapped mountains and all the pine trees all around, that I never felt like it was a man-made lake. Very natural contours and plant and tree habitat. I saw an occasional deer and tons of birds enjoying the sun on an otherwise cool winter's day. Even saw a couple of eagles soaring from the trees to the lake line, may have even been bald eagles as I observed white heads. I didn't have binoculars to confirm, so just a hunch, but it still felt special. Not much activity on the actual lake during my winter visit, maybe just a few people fishing off of rocks near the shore. No one was boating or swimming in these months. But in the summer, it is a much different story, as my memories recollect. Now i want to come back during the summer/fall and do some camping and kayaking. A promise I am making to myself and will surely bring into fruition. Trust.

Both Utica and Union reservoirs each feature two small first come, first serve campgrounds that fill up fast to capacity and have limited resources. Seriously though, this place could have zero bathrooms and I would still give it five stars. Utica has a large day use/overflow parking lot across from the Sandy Flat campground that is totally free.
