Had to go to Mississippi on a Saturday for an errand and figured I might as well make it a fun trip by getting some beer to take home. Bridgetown Beerhouse wasn't empty but it also wasn't overly crowded like some other nearby places at this time of night. They have some outdoor seating along the store and in the converted street parking. Inside has bar seating with multiple taps and some round tops. TVs had the game on (which game? I don't know, I don't do sports. I just know people were watching and cheering). There are multiple fridges well-labeled with types of beer, which is what I went straight to. I took a while debating what I wanted - the bartender greeted me but didn't offer help choosing. That's fine, they were busy enough, but expect to be on your own here. What a cool little beer spot to stumble upon in Nopo! I was in the area picking up some food from Miss Delta after doing a night of food delivery and had 15 minutes to kill before my dinner was ready and so I wandered Mississippi. I did not know Bridgetown Beerhouse existed. I am a beer guy and I'm studying to become a cicerone (beer version of a sommelier) and so John's Marketplace, Market of Choice and Elephant's are my regular haunts. BB was heavy on the IPAs and surprisingly sours but I managed to find four beers that I had never tried before and some from local breweries that I hadn't tried yet, like Grains of Wrath. The prices were comparable to the other businesses and for the folks in Nopo, they can't go wrong here or for the good German beers just up the street at Prost. For me, this was a nice find and when I'm in the area, which isn't very frequent, I'd totally go back to see what goodies I can find. This may be my favorite corner brew pub/bottle shop. It's no big shakes, just a cozy little neighborhood spot that fits my perfectly. They always have a nice taplist of about 12 solid beers on tap (and 4 fridges of bottles if those don't suit you). read more

I'm a little slow to review this place. I think I started going in 2013, so 8 years ago! They were legit awesome. Everything I've heard since tells me they are still awesome. (I stopped working in the area long ago so I rarely get the chance to visit nowadays.) I don't remember the owners name, but he is an Atlanta Braves fan, however, he would still allow me to watch weekday afternoon English Premier League matches on their TV. An amazing selection of beers produced both domestically and abroad, and the owner Mychal's knowledge about beer is nothing less than encyclopedic. Found a bunch of new beers, learned a bit in the process, discovered that I'm apparently a fan of Rauchbier (who knew?) and while it's never exactly a chore to go beer shopping, rarely have I had such a good time doing so or received such excellent guidance. read more

Dark cool spot to get some good brew in! I came here in search of Ruination Tenth Anniversary IPA - they were sold out! Never the less, I enjoyed my visit on this hot summer day. This is a bottle shop/pub with several beers on tap. The selection is small yet impressive. I'm a huge fan Bridgetown Beerhouse! I'm a little biased, as I host a bottle share here weekly, but it's just such an awesome spot to hang out. It's a small place, but the draft list and fridge are expertly curated. Regardless of what style you like, they're always well stocked on the best of the best. They encourage you to bring in your own food, and you have a plethora of choices right outside the door. I am predictable and almost always grab Mee Sen Thai 1/2 block away. Bridgetown is also super dog friendly. If you're a smoker, or you just want to catch some rays, there a few seats out front. If you're a sports watcher, there are two TVs inside. Thanks to this shop, there is rarely a bottle of liquor in my freezer anymore. Located right off of Mississippi behind Fresh Pot, this is a gem. Forget the Nu-Rite (unless you are lookin' for some malt liquor), this is the place to invest in some great beer. I stop in maybe 2 or 3 days a week. I am a lightweight when it comes to beer, and pretty picky. I go for one of the big 750mL bottles of Belgium style beers typically, ranging between $5-13. But, I've got a thorough buzz on and my palate is HAPPY after one of these rare and tasty brews, so paying a little more seems worth it to me. The beers are very fairly priced. Almost all of the beers that I buy here and love are $1 more at New Seasons, and sometimes even $2-3 at Whole Foods! Some beers that I have enjoyed: Thelonious Monk, Bourbon County, Bison Chocolate Stout, and Black Bear XX. (I drink darrrrrk beer). read more

I popped into this shop (located in the old location of sameunderneath) this evening to see what they had. The shop opened on the 20th of January, but they're off to a good start. A good selection of bottles in both six packs and 22oz bottles. The gentleman behind the counter was telling me that they're still waiting on some more things to show as well, so the selection will only get better. Local, regional and international beers are all available. I chose a Belgian style from Washington's Lazy Boy Brewing and a Old style Ale from Eel River in California. Both bought on the owners recommendations. Haven't made it to the Old Style, but the Belgian was quite nice! Talking with the owner, he was planning on having tasting events in the near future, just as soon as he gets everything running smoothly. I was so sad to move out of the inner SE beermuda triangle that was formed by beermongers, belmont station, and the excellent beer selection at both the 39th/hawthorne fred meyer and the 39th st. mini-mart at yamhill. I was worried that there existed no nearby specialty beer shops, and that I would have to settle for New Seasons' admittedly not bad, but not incredible either selection. So when I discovered Bridgetown Beerhouse, I was so happy! Their selection is small compared to Belmont Station, but pretty big overall, and full of many yummy, yummy beers. Plus, the owner Mike is both very knowledgeable about his stock, as well as super-friendly. So if you're in the neighborhood and need that fancy Belgian wit that Fred Meyer doesn't carry, this is the place to go! read more

This is a good little spot to stop in and share a brew. I haven't been drinking much beer lately but when compelled to grab a pint with a friend the other day I wandered in here and found a great selection of bottles and small tap list. It's the type of beer place that in any other city would stand out for its awesome selection however in Portland is simply another on the list of great bars with excellent beer selections. The ownership is super friendly and welcoming, the crowd is a solid neighborhood-y beer drinking group, and the space is comfy and laid back. Plus they have a flat screen over the bar for basketball or varying sports games. If I lived nearby (and decided to get back in to drinking beer again) - I'd be all over this place. read more

Does he hate South Africans? Women? Tall people? People in pants? People in shorts? I have no bloody clue. The would-be muscle-bound beer gut stands out as an exemplar of Portland's Worst Service. I don't want much, and I don't expect much. Although I do expect a G-d beer, within a reasonable window. It is a beer place, after all. He could just say, 'I'll be with you in a moment,' or 'What can I get you?', or 'Hey, man,' and achieve the barest of minimums. It is not my business how much he fronted to open this minimart; he should, while acting in the capacity of bartender, comport himself as a bartender would. Which is to say, he could ask what the h*** the customer wanted. Nu-Rite-Way is in process of expanding their beer selection. Huge selection of great beers (and if you need it, a few of the Hamm's/Oly type) to go. Excellent rotating taps, so far always including a cider or sour beer, and not everything is an IPA - well-thought-out variety! A few tables and bar seating inside, and three tables outside with parasols, with smoking permitted. Great, friendly, knowledgeable service, a friendly collection of regulars, with a wide age range of patrons on most days. Food: Black-pepper flavored kettle chips. You don't have to pretend you go to happy hour for the hummus or overcooked chicken wings here! (And you can bring your own food if you want.) Bike parking right nearby, and wifi. I think it's fair to call this a neighborhood dive. It's an interesting space with some potential, but it's extremely cluttered. It's the kind of place where you can throw a dead cat, and then whatever it hits you ask "why is this here, what purpose does it serve"? Yeah, I know, you probably don't care. I feel like I'm drinking in somebody's garage. Again, I know, you probably think I'm too fussy. Oh, and the place smells bad, like maybe a bit mildewy. So why 4 stars? Not only was I super thirsty, and exhausted by the repetative selection at the nearby New Seasons, I also had been craving some advice on broadening my horizons with my habitual beer "tasting". I needed something with a really high alcohol content, and I needed it to be reasonably cheap. I stumbled into Bridgetown Beerhouse, and my demands were graciously met by Mike, the owner. While displaying a knowledgable and quite sexy demeanor, ...he led me to a delicious bottle of Chipotle Porter that really knocked my socks off. The rest of my Tuesday was quite splendid. The beerhouse is exactly what it's name implies. You go there to buy and/or ingest BEER. If you want amazing beer, there is nowhere else in the area to compete. For the people who give less than 5 stars just because they don't have food... 1) It's a beer shop. It's not a pub. You go there to drink beer and perhaps watch sports. 2) They DO have food. Albeit, only snack bags and a peanut dispenser, but technically, that is food! This is my favorite place to get beer in PDX, and I feel ashamed that I haven't been there more often. I've been here a few times and normally just love perusing through the many coolers of bottles but on this night, I was in a rush and asked the guy behind the counter to help me narrow down my choices. In no time, he pointed out some great bottles, introduced me to a few new breweries & rare batches and I made my choices in no time. There are many bottle shops, pubs, breweries, and the like to satisfy your beer needs in Portland. Every neighborhood has several these days, but there is one beerhouse that deserves some special praise. That beerhouse is Bridgetown. Bridgetown is not even in my neighborhood, but I will often hop on my bike and ride all the way to Mississippi purposely for the ambience, the delicious beer, and the friendly service. Mike, the owner, does a great job keeping beer stocked which you can take to go or open at the beerhouse for a small fee. The layout inside is rich with dark woods and there are tables outside to enjoy the Portland weather (if it is cooperating that day). Bridgetown allows dogs inside as well, so bring your pup and it will get lots of free loving from the patrons. Though they do not serve food at Bridgetown, you can bring in whatever you want from nearby food carts or some other establishment. There are games available to use as well if you are looking for something to do with friends. The bar is accessible and a TV hangs above the bar for viewing pleasure. One of my favorite memories at Bridgetown was watching World Cup matches there. But, the best part of Bridgetown is that I have never once, NEVER, gone in and not been able to find a beer I want on tap. Mike has excellent tap rollover "sense" and somehow always has the right kind of beers on for every beer drinker's taste. Not every bottle shop or pub can say that. There's just a sense of community that you can only experience by being a local, by investing in the social environment. That whole "Cheers" feeling you get when you find good beer, good service, and good patrons. Well done Bridgetown. read more

What a fun place this is! 20 oz. pints, and the barkeep was a hoot to talk to. No chars? What is that about? Probably some sort of OLCC thang I reckon. Super Legit taphouse and bottle shop off N.Mississippi. The setting is dark, wood, brick, unpretentious----yet super geeky knowledgeable staff and customers. Crisp TV monitors showing the sports. They offer a concise 8 rotating tap list. You will get very unique brews here. Within the last year or so they expanded the bar to seat more folks. The owner carefully selects the bottle beer and cider offerings. He will have the latest items. I find it to be cozy and inviting. No food, couple outdoor tables. read more

Been here 3 times (2 nights in a row even) and had a great experience. The guy behind the counter (owner?) was friendly and helpful. They've got a varied selection and its very relaxed. He was knowledgeable about what they had and what we wanted but we were able to browse on our own without feeling smothered as well. Went home with the Total Domination IPA and some great (and strong! woohee) BarleyWine per recommendation. Both were great choices. Definitely beats heading to the corner store for some beer, and the prices are the same. read more

This place had a surprisingly good selection of adult beverages from all around at fairly competitive prices. I have a taste for bitter, sour, and astringent foods, so I was very pleased to find a healthy selection of lambics (and not just those icky sweetened ones which I loathe). I stopped in for a nice day-off lunchtime drinky treat and came out of there inspired to whip up a little cheese fondue with my exquisite brew.
