A beer, cider tap cart tucked way back on the left at the Bite on Belmont Food Cart Lot. SE 42nd and Belmont. Hindsight has Four rotating taps. Several offerings of beer, wine, cider, and non-alcoholic products in the can or bottle. Prices are fair - cash or card accepted. Tables out front to share with other diners, drinkers of the Bite. Hot in the summer sun, but tables have umbrellas for a little shade. The vendors shut around 9pm, could stay open later, especially in the summer. Karyn is the owner, operator, and works most days. She's an East Coast native, friendly, open-minded, and working to create a great community at the Bite. She selects mostly local - Oregon beers and ciders. Always something new on. Occasionally you'll see an out of state beer. There's a good community with this lot and the vendors - they lookout for one another and can recommend some nice food options. The folks in line at Slappy Cakes across the street will pop in for a Mimosa while they wait 1 plus hours for a table. Ha! The facade outside facing the street is understated, so remember to head all the way back for some local beer.

The neighborhood vibe you're looking for and a rotating selection of taps. The proprietor here cares about her customers and it shows.

Great little beer and wine cart. There are just a few beers on but they always have a great cider.

The improvements of their outdoor space is awesome! Thank you for that, from devoted Crux…read morebeer-lovers. We make it a point to come here when we are in Bend, and now we will stay longer, and come more often. The music playing on the speakers was an extra treat, thank you. Again, made us want to stay longer. Well done, decision makers!

As a big fan of Crux brews I was stoked to see this PDX location open a couple of years back, and…read morehappy to see the creativity, vibe and level of service is still spot on. This isn't one of the fancier brewpubs in Portland (looking at you 10 Barrel and Deschutes) but that's never been the Crux brand so I'm happy to see them stick to their down to the earth origins and focus on making really good beer. The bar is nice and long and a good place to post up for a couple of pints, with plenty of cheery tenders to pour them for you. The space is overall industrial-feeling with tall ceilings and minimalist decor and mostly bare walls inside, but there's also an outside patio area with picnic tables in the parking lot, though that's best in the summer. We got the General Tso Cauliflower to start which was a great share plate, with awesome flavor in the sauce, though the actual cauliflower was a bit undercooked. Still, we polished it off no problem. Fish tacos were also a good call, and the thin, crispy fries were a crowd favorite. There are so many good sours, IPAs and other craft beer options here, my buddy just opted for the 4-brew flight (mostly IPAs) which we all sampled and loved, though it's kinda pricy for what's basically 20 ounces of beer. The one-off vintage 14% special beers are where it's at, but at that ABV level, we just decided to share one barrel aged Imperial Stout. So friggin caramelly and delish - the perfect dessert. The space was pretty quiet for a Saturday night but our service was absolutely next level, so it made for a super pleasant gathering for our small group. The food at this Crux location is probably best described as better-than-average pub fare, but not mouth-watering, and the ambiance is low key but also nothing super special. The beer and the staff though, are awesome, so I will be back for more.

John's Marketplace has a great craft beer selection to go, as well as to drink there. I love that…read morethis place is dog-friendly and it has food carts (with some vegan options) just outside in case you get hungry.

What we personally witnessed today at John's Marketplace was HORRIBLE!…read more There was a very friendly canvasser collecting signatures to help Portland get more police. Well sadly, a couple who don't like police went in and complained about the canvasser. My husband and I had just finished giving him our signatures and out walks the couple who complained about him. As they walked out he asked them one more time if they would like to sign. They said no and actually called him an idiot. I couldn't believe that. Then someone who works at John's walked out and told the canvasser that he needed to leave. The canvasser calmly asked him why and the worker just got angry and threatening toward the canvasser. The entire time the canvasser stayed super calm and polite. The worker told him he was going to call the police, so the canvasser said he was going to walk over and away from their door (we watched him move away from John's). The worker called the police anyway. We asked the canvasser if he wanted us to stick around and he said no and that he's not worried about the police being called, because he knew the police would help defuse the situation. I would bet real money that if the canvasser were collecting signatures for something that couple liked, there would be zero complaints... John's Marketplace has now lost a couple local customers and we will be sharing this with our friends (we were all customers, but not anymore). I would have totally backed them asking the canvasser to leave if he was being rude, but we personally witnessed that he was being completely professional and pleasant. Had the worker not been such a jerk to the canvasser I probably wouldn't even have thought to write this review, but he was a complete jerk when he had to option to be calm and explain his position (the canvasser was extremely calm and didn't need some guy treating him so poorly).

Years later, and I still enjoy Great Notion. When an out-of-town guest asks for some "fun beer,"…read morethis is where I take them. The Blueberry Muffin is an all-time favorite, and even though I get annoyed when they're sold out, it's never enough to keep me away. Most times I get a flight and try a bunch of different things. This location is charming. It has the industrial decor that now feels cliché but was groundbreaking for beer and burger spots a decade ago. With a very large patio and big garage doors, it's great during summer especially. Staff is knowledgeable about their beer, patient while we deliberated, and did us a favor to help the beer travel on the plane. The kitchen is now operated by Matt's BBQ Tacos (which I will review separately).

My wife and I drove over 30 minutes to visit this location because we were looking forward to enjoying good BBQ, tacos and a beer. Unfortunately, the political signage displayed throughout the windows and establishment made us feel unwelcome, so we decided not to stay. Great Notion and Matt's BBQ Tacos, you've pushed away customers who came ready to support your business and spend money with you. I wish you the best, but it seems you've chosen to operate not only as a restaurant and brewery, but also as a platform for political messaging. That's your right, of course, but it's a direction that may alienate customers who simply want to enjoy good food and drinks without politics being part of the experience.
