At some point, the stepdaughter who is the POA and Health POA,only allowed us to visit on Tuesdays. We live in Mesa. Because of her rules, they could never answer any questions. Around March of 2024, he was moved to memory care. It seemed good until my brother kept losing weight. His stepdaughter would not take him to the dentist, he had many teeth missing and couldn't chew. Their needs to be accountability of the facility who needs to do what's best for the health of the resident. They did not. They just let her dictate and eventually he starved and recently died. When I mentioned in March that he only took one bite of his food, they were not concerned, also said he wouldn't drink a shake. When my sister and I would bring something for him to eat, it took time with him to coax and get him to eat. Their staff does not have the time to spend with a resident that long. We witnessed other residents not being properly taken care of. Most can't open the patio door to go outside, it's too heavy. I had to jump up quickly to save a man from falling flat on his face. The recliner was broken. My brother died of starvation and they cared more about following the stepdaughters wishes than doing what was best for my brother

My mom has been living at The Fountains at La Cholla, a Watermark Property, for over a year now…read more She started in Independent Living, and has since moved to Assisted Living. At every step of her journey, she has received exceptional care and abounding compassion. When she moved to assisted living, one of the associates found out that she is a pianist. That associate then donated a keyboard for her to play on headphones in her room. That's only one example of the kindness that I've seen displayed over and over. They have gone above and beyond at every turn. My gratitude goes out to everyone at the building. Highly recommended.

Uncompassionate administration and incompetent nursing staff…read more When Watermark bought the Quail Park of Oro Valley Assisted Living facility, the administration and nurses were fired (or left on their own accord), which should have been a red flag for us. Watermark overdosed my mother-in-law with insulin two days in a row which cause her blood glucose to bottom out. We had to report this to their primary care provider so she can force them to follow her medical orders. When they realized their mistake, they evicted my in-laws and handed the letter directly to my mother-in-law and ignored my wife's wishes to have her handle the situation. As a result of the stress it place on my mother-in-law, she underwent congestive heart failure and ended up in the emergency room and was hospitalized from Christmas to after New Years. This could have been prevented if they had let my wife handle the situation. My wife has Power of Attorney (POA) for her parents for all financial and medical decisions. The Interim Executive Director, Brenda, informed my wife that the Power of Attorney was not valid because it was not court ordered or medically invoked. We verified that the POA is indeed valid for all financial and medical decisions with our lawyers and state agencies and should not have been ignored. Brenda had the audacity to send my wife, as their POA, the bill for their final days. We later found out that a medical technician was being presented as their nurse. Several times we called the facility and requested to speak to the nurse and were transferred to the med tech. Brenda often referred to her as their "Nurse". I confirmed with the AZ Nursing Board website that she is not a licensed nurse. I would give zero stars if possible. Beware and stay clear!

I must agree with the review that says problems start at the top of management. The owner passed…read moreaway and his daughter inherited the building (that's what I heard anyway). When concerns were brought to her about Janice and her staff she mocked me and did nothing. Janice was a marketing director. She became the Executive Director and I do not believe she ever had prior caregiving experience. She never checked / or seemed to care on what was going on inside those houses. She was often understaffed and residents were neglected. From my miserable experience of having my father there I heard of 2 people who died from falls that may have been prevented with proper staffing and care. I also was told of a women who died because she was ill and staff was not doing much to help her. One staff member advocated for her to be seen by a doctor or nurse, but her voice was dismissed and the woman died. That employee was heart broken and left her position there promptly. The final straw for me and two other family members of residents : they were allowing employees to bring their sick children to the home while they "worked" and they all had Covid with symptoms!!! In fact they were pushing them to come to work even though they were symptomatic. Avid this place. It's very sad to see that many of these facilities are mainly focused on making money rather than providing the best care for helpless seniors. It can happen to any of us, anyone of us can end up in a place like this and change needs to happen!! Avoid Villas on Houghton and La Cañada as they are both ran by the same Janice and same corporate office management.

She had anxiety and depression with her dementia on days when Bishop wasn't there. There were falls and issues on days when he wasn't there. Mom and other residents said he made the best food. Most of the time The Villas had staff quitting and short staffing where people had shuffle to cover other Villa as well as their own. Thank god Bishop was there making my mother smile till the end! We love you for being such an exceptional human being and knowing mom was getting the very best care when you were there.
