1 star. Will be finding a new place to take my pets. This weekend I brought my car and dog. I was charged $600 for a few routine vaccinations for each pet and charged for TWO office visits. They sent me a survey and I said, "the prices are too fucking high". They sent me a text stating my pets health is an "investment" and that if I used harsh language they would tell me to find another vet. Your fucking loss. I'll find another vet then. read more

Had a sick dog and had to drop her off. Was called later and told yup she is sick. We need $500 for the exam, $400 for blood work and $700 for X-ray. There will be more charge later as this is for diagnosis only. Already told she has an infection. Absolutely heartless and nasty to treat people and their pets this way. Unfortunately, I have to knock off one star. As part of the check up, we were told we'd be given a quote for teeth cleaning. It's been almost one month since our vet visit. Two weeks ago, I sent a follow up email. And we still haven't heard back. They were very prompt when we were interested in establishing care here, but I'm a bit concerned by the lack of follow through. I've taken my pets to Brier Veterinary Hospital since it opened over 20 years ago. When Dr Earls was there, I was confident that I would be treated fairly, and my pets would get great care. Sadly, that is not the case now, and hasn't been for several years since she left. I have taken my business elsewhere and if you are smart, you will too. Resolving your pet's health issue is not the focus there anymore. The focus is how much of your money can they get from you through repeated unnecessary tests, treatments that don't work and billing you time and time again for office visits for THE SAME SIMPLE PROBLEM they are apparently unable to cure. Take my advice. Go elsewhere. Your pet and your wallet will thank you. read more

I've spent a long time thinking about leaving a review for this vet clinic, or just moving on. I think I owe it to other pet owners to share my experience, and will try to be as fair as I can. The good - every vet we worked with at this clinic was absolutely wonderful, and we have no doubts about their skillsets. My only complaint is how rarely they were a part of our visits, as almost everything is handled by the techs. The front desk staff were always kind and helpful. We worked with at least one other staff member who was so great and obviously adores dogs and has great skills with them. The bad - there is one person who works here who has no business handling dogs. This person seems entirely uncomfortable around dogs of all sorts (observations from the waiting room), and this person seems to have significantly traumatized our pup. This person is so bad we have taken our business elsewhere and completely transferred clinics to someone else. There are several interactions I could mention that demonstrate the issue, but the last and final straw was a visit for a simple blood draw. This staff member came out rather flustered, did not greet our dog in any way, said they were going to take him back for his nail trim (he was there for a blood draw...), then proceeded to grab his leash and DRAG him into the back room. We tried to calm him and assist this staff member with getting him to go into the back and they just freaked out that we weren't allowed beyond the door and yelled at us. We sat anxiously waiting for an eternity, and heard the loudest squeal from the back. Shortly thereafter this staff member returned with our extremely traumatized pup, declared he was too anxious and would have to be medicated and come back again. Reading the visit notes, it says that he "freaked out for no reason" but let me tell you, having a stressed out stranger come grab your leash and yank you around against your will and drag you away from your people would sure freak you out for a valid reason, no? I don't understand how someone with such poor basic animal handling ended up in such a role. Needless to say, we immediately switched clinics, never to return again. We have found a vet who is willing to work with his new found anxieties about the vet, and it was horrifying to see how his demeanor has completely changed at the vet now after this bad experience. He is TERRIFIED of humans who match the demographics (age, gender) of this staff member I am writing about, and he is perfectly fine with all other types of people at the clinic. Could not be more obvious they completely traumatized him. I left private feedback for this clinic, and never heard anything in response. This disappoints me and is why I have chosen to leave a public review. I hope this may help others who are trying to instill a positive experience with the vet in their young dogs; perhaps consider a different clinic. read more

We took our dog there last year to find out what was wrong with her and she was dx with Cushings Disease which fit her symptoms well. The vet could have done more tests to confirm her dx more specifically (and gave us the options and the cost) but we decided that we felt it was accurate after researching it ourselves (my husband and I are both healthcare professionals) and decided not to treat (which is a common decision for this dx). 11 months later we took her back to euthanize her due to her decline and urinary incontinence (even with diapers). The staff were exceptionally sympathetic and sensitive, their price for the procedure was half of what we got quoted elsewhere, and they told us we could have as much time as needed before we finally put her down. The process was very smooth, very sad, but she was very comfortable and I don't think she knew or felt anything other than the initial IV. Not only that, but we got a sympathy card from the clinic with 16 signatures from staff expressing their sympathies for our loss and even mentioned our dog's name about 10 days later. So my two visits there have been very positive and I would recommend this clinic. I am sorry to read the negative reviews, but I want to counter with our families positive experience on a very sad occasion. read more

Even though my dogs don't like coming here (at no fault to the vet techs and doctors!), I do and I've continued to come here even after moving further away from the business. I love that they remember me and my dogs every time I walk through the door and are always attentive and quick to assist upon arrival. I've been taking my pets here for 12 years and have had a great experience until this week. I called on Monday morning to get an appointment for my dog to see the vet because he had diarrhea for quite a few days. I was able to get in at 12:30 which I was happy about since I really needed to get him in asap. We were scheduled to see someone we had never seen before, Dr. Matthew Achenbach. His vet assistant/tech was someone we hadn't seen before either. Both of them seemed inexperienced. Dr. Achenbach rushed us because according to his vet assistant/tech he needed to go on his lunch break. He wasn't thorough with what he was diagnosing my dog with or with the directions for the medications he was prescribing him and no notes were put on the bill/exit summary. Dr. Achenbach said my dog probably had a pancreatitis flare up which he seems to have every few months but could also be stress/anxiety or could have gotten into something.The vet assistant/tech ran me up for the wrong amount and luckily the front desk caught it before it went through. Before I left, I decided to ask the vet assistant/tech about the meds and she said she didn't really know about them and the vet went to lunch. I left upset and decided to call back to get a more thorough explanation of the meds. The vet was busy so they sent the phone call to the vet assistant/tech who still had no clue and told me she would have the vet call me. The vet did call and talk to my mom who was in Mexico and called me and left a voicemail (I was busy working when he called me back.) Usually they call or send a message to check on your animal within 24 hours of your visit with them but I got nothing. I am seriously considering another vet clinic after this horrible experience and will definitely not recommend Brier Vet to others. When a doctor or staff member is publicly called out online, it hurts and breaks trust in the important doctor-client-patient relationship. Dr. Achenbach is an excellent doctor. In my 24 years in practice and 12 years as a practice owner, I have met and worked with many doctors. He is intelligent, thorough, compassionate and very kind. As you referenced above, he called you back to further discuss the case. I wish you would have answered or returned his call instead of waiting three days and writing this review. As I reach the end of a long career in veterinary medicine, I know I'm in the appropriate position to say that this is a difficult profession. There is a lot of professional burnout and depression in the field. I find myself now mentoring and ushering in a new cohort of veterinarians and I want them to thrive and to last in the field. I'm quite impressed with the service that we received from this vet clinic. I took my parents' dog (Cooper) for an emergency visit due to lack of appetite and vomiting. The initial check-up was thorough and they even had the medical history in order. Dr. Earls was understanding and remembered Cooper from previous check-ups. We ended up doing some blood work to identify the cause of his sudden lack of appetite. The follow-up call was also thorough. Dr. Earls prescribed some medication for nausea and gastrointestinal. Prescription pick-up was a breeze and the staff are very friendly. The vet is located in a small business area. This means limited parking. There's plenty of parking by Albertsons which is down the drive way. This vet has prescription food and flea treatments. read more

I recently became a new client at the Brier Veterinary Hospital, where my dog received a checkup and a surgery. Overall, I was happy with the care that my dog received during the surgery. Following the surgery, When I got home, only the painkiller was in the bag from the vet, though the vet tech and front office staff claimed that they gave me both an antibiotic and a painkiller for my dog. I also checked my car and the bottle of antibiotics wasn't there, so I went back to the clinic to get the bottle of antibiotics. When I told the front office staff that I had only received the painkiller, the person became combative, defensive and disrespectful over the issue. When I returned for the surgery follow up, the Brier Veterinary Hospital still insisted on charging me twice for a medication I received once and insisted that their vet tech put the original bottle in the bag. In the end, the vet office charged me for two bottles instead for the one bottle I actually received that my dog benefitted from ($126.78 instead of $63.39). Given that over two visits there, I authorized over $1,500 worth of charges, I was surprised and saddened that this business would choose to damage the new relationship with me as a client over $63.39 rather than benefit from the over $20,000 I would have likely spent there over the life of my young dog (based on how much I have spent on healthcare for previous dogs). I will be finding a new vet as soon as possible. This is not the way you treat people, and it does not make good business sense. read more

Have gone here for years, though not consistently, and every time they are just so lovely and considerate. Had to put our oldest cat to sleep last week as he had deteriorated, they were very kind, thoughtful and the whole process was truly as gentle as it could be. They did not rush me through any of the steps and were happy to allow me to ask questions, talk about my cat as well as my own feelings. I cannot recommend them enough!! read more

I love Brier! One of the best vet hospitals I've been to so far! (: The staff always greet Delilah with warmth, I always get compliments of how brave she was and how well she did! She's actually the most behaved here than any other vet I've gone to with her. She seems to do great and I honestly love how the staff actually remembers Delilah! I believe I've only been there twice now but they are great! Pays much attention to detail, always goes through the report thoroughly on what was done and what is recommended. We take our 2 dogs and cat here. The service has been outstanding. Dr. Gerard has been the most compassionate vet I have ever visited. The explanations we receive are thorough and never condescending. The recommendations have been spot on. I'm not sure what more you could ask of these folks. The care I recieved here tonight was nothing short of amazing. Imagine you're at the dog park with your puppy and two bigger dogs run him over. Suddenly he's on his side screaming and flailing around. Panic set in as I lifted him up. Even the slightest movement sent him into screaming pain. My boyfriend googled the nearest place and we arrived shortly before closing time. They saw immediately that he was in an extreme amount of pain and took him in despite it almost being closing time and me having to deal with how I was going to pay. They were super understanding and went over a treatment plan with me. They were so sweet with him. Poor guy. Also way cheaper than an emergency vet. They even gave him an adorable little cast which made me smile in a time of extreme stress lol. Very reassuring and everyone was super nice. Thank you. read more

If they would have called I would not have approved!! They also said my cat was freaking out, stressed in his cage. I wish they would have just called me and I would have picked him up - I live 5 minutes away. They didn't call me and instead injected him with some steroid. So disappointed! I was recommended this place a few years ago and I loved it! Dr. Earls and owner at the time was amazing to work with. However, new owners are more concerned about making money. Today I showed up for my appointment for a dental cleaning on my dog which they somehow scheduled someone else's dog by mistake. They then provide me with an estimate for the cleaning which was from $1000.00 upward. The tech agreed with me saying it was outrageous. She came back out with an estimate from $500 to $1000. I still wouldn't agree to it. She tried to explain how the there are new owners and they are doing things different. I used to feel like my pet was the most important thing at this clinic but obviously the most important thing now is money!!! read more

What keeps me coming to any medical clinic, whether it be for humans or pets, is the front office. The doctors here have been friendly and compassionate-only positive experiences. The staff has been... ok. I have had multiple instances of them not contacting me with reminders about vaccinations, plus they aren't great about returning phone messages promptly or getting me checked out promptly after a visit. We rescued a bulldog/Boston terrier mix and she is in great hands at Brier Veterinary Hospital (locates in Mountlake Terrace not sure what the name history is). They are very serious about COVID safety and conduct all business from your car. The techs and Vet shower her with attention, she loves going in! I had to bring my dog here yesterday for an urgent allergy matter because his primary vet did not have availability. Under very few circumstances will I take my pup to a vet I'm not familiar with, but I'm honestly impressed and happy with the care he received at Brier Vet. They scheduled us in ASAP (I'd made the appt 1 hr prior) and when we arrived, we were put in a room almost immediately. They wasted no time getting my pup's medical history (and they were extremely thorough), and Dr. Schultz came in shortly after. She was very gentle and thorough with examining him, which I appreciated since I'm sure that my dog was in a lot of pain. She informed me of the treatment plan in detail and even let me know of a cheaper medication alternative as the recommended Apoquel can be expensive. They did a remarkable, clean job bandaging my pup (all four paws), and judging by the lack of dramatic Shiba screams, I'm sure they were as gentle as possible. For the exam, 4 full bandage applications, a full course of antibiotics, anti-inflammatory/pain meds, and 2 weeks of Apoquel we paid a little over $260 (keep in mind they offered a cheaper alternative). I think that was well worth it's money and certainly appropriate for the care my pup received. Dr. Schultz obviously knows what she's doing since my dog seemed much more comfortable shortly after his first dose of medications, and today, post second dose, he's mostly back to his normal self aside from his wobbly celery stick legs (see picture). read more

First impressions are very telling and my first visit to Brier Veterinarian was a wonderful yet sad experience. Our dog Courtney had had health issues for 6 weeks and the day we decided to let her go we went this vet. They were not Courtney's regular doctor but we're very close and they fit her into the morning without a scheduled appointment. Our experience was extraordinary. They treated both us with love and kindness. Her passing was pain free. Today, one week later, we received a thoughtful sympathy card signed by the whole staff. A small but significant detail that touched our heart. Sadly, we have not even received an acknowledgement of Courtney's passing from her doctor of 14 years. I have been a client here for many years and recently made an appointment to get my cat's teeth cleaned. I waited until Feb. as I was informed this is the month they offered discounts. I took my cat in on the day of the cleaning and was provided an estimate of the service. I was quite shocked at the price they offered. They informed me they were under new ownership and I should have received an estimate a couple of weeks before the service which I did not receive. Quite unprofessional and gives the feeling they are hoping clients will go through with the service since they have taken the time off work. I have no problem with capitalism but these folks are out to squeeze as much money as they can out of people when they are in need. Too bad they chose profits over loyalty. We recently had to have our 15 year old dog put down and our regular vet doesn't do house calls. It was very important to us that our boy cross the Rainbow bridge at home in our arms so I asked around on social media for recommendations for the service and was told to check Brier Veterinary Hospital out. I sent an email and someone replied within minutes and I was able to get everything set up easily. When they came to take care of our boy, they were empathetic, patient, and incredibly caring. Here are my reasons: -The front desk staff were very professional and super courteous. -The vet tech was really friendly to both human and animal members of our family, and knew her stuff. She gave me recommendations of a better flea and worm med before the vet came in. -The vet was SO competent, friendly, great with my two dogs, helped me save a ton of money on meds by recommending a medicine that better met my needs but was cheaper that what I was using, respected my decision making process on what plan to take but gave me all the information so I could make an informed decision. She was super competent and knew all about different procedures to the point that should could really explain the pros and cons of everything, and she was respectful and not demeaning in her explanations. I loved her. -The whole office was kid friendly! There were kid books in the rooms, the vet let my kids listen to our dog's heartbeats, explained measurement: ccs and mLs. My hubby and I have 4 cats (aka 16 paws of destruction) our youngest is 6 our oldest is 17. Needless to say we've seen our share of vets... Recently our middle fuzzy child was having some problems. We'd moved to the area about a year ago and wanted to find a LOCAL vet. (hey two of the four are Siamese - you try listening to them cry while you drive 30 minutes to the vet!) Anyways - after much research we decided on visiting Brier Vet. They are new to the area but I was able to snag some reviews on Carol. My hubby has the more flexible schedule so he made the first visit. But I am the "know it all" and the ultimate cat mom. Carol allowed my hubby to put me on speaker and participate in the visit. Turns our we needed to do some xrays and teeth cleaning on her. On the day of the procedure everyone took amazing care of her. Annnnd after all that the Xrays came back clear (cats issues can be such an enigma!) But Carol already had a plan of action in place and we'll keeping trying to figure it out. I have five pets, and all five see Drs. Earls and Johnson whenever we need to fix what ails them. Both are incredibly conscious about the cost of veterinary care, and make sure to consider that your pocketbook is not bottomless when suggesting diagnostics or treatments. Our younger dog has been treated for a lupoid condition using vitamin supplements found at Costco, and a bad case of acid reflux using a common acid reducing medication, with great success. Our older dog has been seen more than a few times as well, for ulcers, hotspots, and one notable tooth removal that was wicked difficult. The vet techs put the cutest wraps on our dog's foot when he lost one set of nails, and it had a little minion on it! Our cats have gotten equally wonderful care, dealing with neutering, sudden weight loss, health decline, and end of life for one of them. I'm consistently impressed with their entire office. Poor kitty. The vet people fixed a small issue and were very quick to get us a same day appointment and saw us right away even though we showed up early. (30 minutes early!) Our kitty started drooling excessively and we got him in to the vet immediaetly. The vet (Carol) was extremely helpful and diagnosed him with a spider bite in his mouth from the kitty attempting to eat the spider. A shot and some fluids later and everything was fine! I was not happy when Dr. Bob sold out but figured how bad can it be. Bad!!! no bedside manor with dogs ,this Vet is only concerned about how money they can charge for their services, tests were done that were not needed and they cost a fortune. I guess they need that money to pay for the renovations that Dr.Bobs office didn't need ,he was just a good Vet that was excellent with dogs and cats ,he didn't charge and arm and a legs when it wasn't nessasary. We moved to this vet after leaving our previous vet of 15 years. We LOVE Dr.Earls, they work with our 16 year old senior dog and our highly reactive younger dog. They are amazing, knowledgeable, and kind. It was hard for us to find a vet that is this patient and non-judgemental as we navigated caring for and treating a dog that was not socialized with humans as a puppy, but this team has been a wonderful support in both our pets physical and mental health. Both the doctors and support staff have been so kind, prompt, and knowledgeable; they even let our 2 dogs stay in a kennel together when my reactive dog had to stay for a day to decrease her anxiety. I love Dr. Earls. Her quick diagnosis of my dog saved her life. I have been going here for several years. I had two vets previous to settling at Brier. The first place was tiny and a bit too dirty so we switched over to a new place nearby. That place was spacious and clean but the doctor was very pushy and she was pushing us to get my dog knee surgery. I wanted a second opinion and Brier was recommended to us by a family friend. The prices are fair, the staff are capable and kind, the doctors are knowledgeable and the space is clean. Two weeks ago, my dog wasn't eating/drinking and was vomitting so I called to see if I could bring her in that day. They didn't have room but they asked me to bring her in so that the doctor could take a look at her in between appointments. It turned out to be pyometra and so I took her to an emergency vet in shoreline to get surgery. long story short, my dog is fine now but honestly, it's thanks to the team at Brier. They even called me a week later to check up on my dog to see how she's doing. I love that this place connects to me and my dog with a lot of empathy all the while being more than capable of delivering quality care. read more
