We ate in the bar - loved the vibe down there! The food was amazing! We started with salads - Caesar for the Hubby (as usual) and the Spring Salad for me (I subbed blue cheese for the goat cheese - I'm not a fan of goat cheese). Both salads were super fresh. They make their dressings in house and it shows. Ribeye rare for the Hubby and Filet mid-rare for me. We both had the crème fresh mashed potatoes. Steaks were cooked perfectly. And let me tell you, if you get anything, GET THE MASHED POTATOES!!! I swear these were the best I have ever had in my life. No joke - that includes my homemade and my Moms and Grandma's. Seriously. It's worthy to note that I asked for salt & pepper, as there was none on the table. It takes a really confident chef to not have salt & pepper on the table. So of course, I tasted first. I honestly did NOT use not one grain of either. The food didn't need it. Everything was seasoned perfectly! We ended the meal with crème brûlée, because if it's on the menu, we are ordering it. It was exceptional! Easily the second best we've ever had - and we've eaten a LOT of crème brûlée in our years. The service was absolutely spot on. Recently came in for a 13 person bday dinner. Abby, our waitress handled the table with ease. The decor was modern with touches of wood. Ambiance was business casual to upscale. Food came out quickly. While here I had the following. Crab dip-not my fave. The flavor reminded me of hamburger helper. There was hardly any crab but, there was tuna. Brussel sprouts-deelish. I love the cook and seasoning of them. Crispy but tender. NY strip steak- juicy, adequately seasoned and cooked to perfection. I ordered medium and that's what I got. The steak itself was a nice serving. The asparagus was deelish as well. The dish could use a few more stalks. To wash it down I had a glass of the montepulciano. A dry red with a sweet bouquet. Since it was my first time visiting Harrisonburg, I had a small group celebrating a bachelor. The exterior of the building was historic but parking was limited in front of the building and luckily they had additional parking diagonally from it. As you walked in, the interior was gorgeous designed, wine shelves, a two level dining area and offers exterior seating (if weather permits). There were 6 items ordered: 1) Crispy Brussel Sprout 2) Shrimp and Grits 3) Steak Burger 4) 16oz Ribeye 5) Grilled Filet Mignon 6) 12oz Ribeye. The appetizers ordered were delivered as tapa style and were delicious. All steaks ordered were perfectly prepared, well seasoned and tender. The steak burger was tender, juicy and served with sauté onions, swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato and house steak sauce. The combination of this burger and how well the burger was prepared, I should have ordered another one. It was served with a dill pickle, a ramekin of ketchup and duck fat fries. The restaurant was clean, all staff were friendly and had immaculate service. Reggie was very attentive, friendly and made sure our glasses were filled without us asking. Our server was Ventura, he was very attentive, friendly, humorous and knowledgeable. The entire staff made me feel like I was apart of their family. I really wanted to love this place. The Local Chop & Grill House has a gorgeous setting--elegant, warm, and inviting. Unfortunately, the service and food didn't live up to the atmosphere. Service was slow and surprisingly curt. It felt like we were more of a bother than guests, which was disappointing given the restaurant's reputation. I ordered the Wagyu hamburger, medium. It came out rare--cold in the center. I sent it back, hoping for a fix. It returned still rare, and honestly, inedible. At that point, I gave up on the meal. First things first, congratulations to my sister for getting married! She brought her wedding party here for her rehearsal dinner. The ambiance was great. This place used to be a train station and now it's a local and historic restaurant, pretty cool. The inside was pretty classy and I loved the old timey feel. The food was great too. I got a top sirloin with duck fat french fries and horseradish sauce and Jamaican wings. All of it was great except my steak came medium rare when I asked for medium. Their complimentary bread and honey butter was AMAZING. For dessert I had the "espresso" chocolate cake which tasted like someone forgot the espresso and like a normal boxed chocolate cake, not a fan. The crème brûlée I tried from someone else was definitely the better decision. My Old Fashioned with their own twist was really good (star of my drinks) along with my craft beer and espresso martini (for desert of course). I don't have an opinion on the pricing though (as it was all paid for me), which may potentially lower this score. The service was good too, as good as it could've been for a party of 20+. TL;DR - In no way shape or form would I ever return to this place. One of the most disappointing dining experiences in years, and we eat out a lot. I cannot understand how this is so highly rated. We came here on a Friday evening. Having never been here before, we made reservations for the "sunroom". Problem #1 - the building is old, and could be beautiful with some TLC, but the sunroom has stained brown carpet squares, dirty windows, a random tv on the wall with cables hanging off it. Problem #2 - we were seated next to a very large, VERY LOUD, VERY VERY DRUNK family who was yelling at/over each other. We couldn't even hear the waiter over their cacophony. I asked if we could be seated at a quieter table was told we had reserved the sunroom so we needed to stay there. Problem #3 - the food. 2 of us ordered Wagyu burgers. The Local Chop & Grill is a nice addition to the Harrisonburg area. Food is sourced from local farms, and then menu is on point, offering a wide variety of meat cuts, salads, sides, and sauces. I started with the U10 Scallop appetizer with Fennel Slaw. The scallops were perfectly cooked and were fresh. The fennel slaw was outstanding and, together, made the perfect starter plate. I went with the Duck Breast for my main with a side of the asparagus with lemon sea salt. The Duck breasr was cooked perfectly, and I had chosen the arugula chimichurri sauce to go with it, which was fresh and had just enough kick to handle the duck. The grilled asparagus was absolutely delicious. I wanted something light for dessert so I went with the Berries and Cream. The cake was more of a corn cake with lemon syrup rather that a lemon cake. It was heavy and dry and not as sweet and light as I was expecting. The berries were fresh and maceration perfectly. The cream was a marscapone creme and while delicious, could be slightly lighter whipped. Total came to $75.00 and that total included a 20% tip because the service was very good and my waiter was attentive. This is about the best grill restaurant in Harrisonburg. Parking is a little sparse, but there is an overflow lot for staff across the street. We'll worth the trip and I would definitely return. read more

The hostess led us upstairs to our table (reservations are recommended) where our water and menus were already waiting. The Bramble On came from the seasonal menu and was a refreshing summer perfection. The House Old Fashioned made feel as grown up the age I turned. LOL The thick slice of orange peel added to the experience as I could smell it as the drink approached my mouth with every sip. We decided on the calamari as an appetizer. It was beautifully presented with sweet peppers and a dipping sauce spread across the platter. They were lightly breaded and fried. Not in the slightest way greasy or heavy. For our entree we both selected the skirt steak special of the night. A steak knife was on hand, but it was hardly needed. The beef was tender, juicy, and full of flavor. The melted blue cheese butter to pour over the top was indeed over the top! It was an incredible steak. All of the sides looked amazing but the Gruyère Mac-n-cheese had to be chosen just for a try. Not disappointed. Tip: stir it and let it sit a bit before you dig in. The staff here is highly professional and the manager (owner?) was very visible throughout the time we were there. The staff was cautious in not interrupting our eating or conversation, yet very attentive. My husband had told the staff of my birthday when booking the reservation and nearly every staff member wished me a happy birthday at some point during the visit. This restaurant was perfect for the occasion I was there for (my boyfriend's birthday). He loves steak and he couldn't get over how great his ribeye was....or the bread and chive butter combination! I ordered the roasted chicken and was told it took 45 minutes to cook and it was worth every second. It was so moist and seasoned perfectly and ironically enough the chimichurri sauce it came with paired well with my boyfriend's steak. Our waiter Ethan was fantastic and gave us perfectly detailed explanations of our drink choices. If you like strong cocktails this restaurant is for sure a win win haha. We honestly believe that this is the best restaurant in Harrisonburg. The service is always incredible (tonight we sat at the bar and had Brendan and Lane), the specials are spot on for their use of local ingredients (we had the calamari, steak special, the duck breast, green beans, squash, cheese grits, the flourless chocolate cake, and the peach ice cream), and the atmosphere is perfect.
