Recently came in for a 13 person bday dinner. Abby, our waitress handled the table with ease. The decor was modern with touches of wood. Ambiance was business casual to upscale. Food came out quickly. While here I had the following. Crab dip-not my fave. The flavor reminded me of hamburger helper. There was hardly any crab but, there was tuna. Brussel sprouts-deelish. I love the cook and seasoning of them. Crispy but tender. NY strip steak- juicy, adequately seasoned and cooked to perfection. I ordered medium and that's what I got. The steak itself was a nice serving. The asparagus was deelish as well. The dish could use a few more stalks. To wash it down I had a glass of the montepulciano. A dry red with a sweet bouquet. Not overly sweet though. You should check them out if you're in the area.

Since it was my first time visiting Harrisonburg, I had a small group celebrating a bachelor. The exterior of the building was historic but parking was limited in front of the building and luckily they had additional parking diagonally from it. As you walked in, the interior was gorgeous designed, wine shelves, a two level dining area and offers exterior seating (if weather permits). There were 6 items ordered: 1) Crispy Brussel Sprout 2) Shrimp and Grits 3) Steak Burger 4) 16oz Ribeye 5) Grilled Filet Mignon 6) 12oz Ribeye. The appetizers ordered were delivered as tapa style and were delicious. All steaks ordered were perfectly prepared, well seasoned and tender. The steak burger was tender, juicy and served with sauté onions, swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato and house steak sauce. The combination of this burger and how well the burger was prepared, I should have ordered another one. It was served with a dill pickle, a ramekin of ketchup and duck fat fries. The restaurant was clean, all staff were friendly and had immaculate service. Reggie was very attentive, friendly and made sure our glasses were filled without us asking. Our server was Ventura, he was very attentive, friendly, humorous and knowledgeable. The entire staff made me feel like I was apart of their family. If I ever in Harrisonburg again, I will definitely make another visit and try other items on their menu.

Best in Harrisonburg! Have been going here for years and it's always SO wonderful. The focaccia is out of this world. The filets are excellent. The crème fraiche mash 10/10! Steph--the GM, is WONDERFUL and I look forward to seeing her when we visit. The atmosphere and the staff really go above and beyond every visit and I've never left disappointed.

First things first, congratulations to my sister for getting married! She brought her wedding party here for her rehearsal dinner. The ambiance was great. This place used to be a train station and now it's a local and historic restaurant, pretty cool. The inside was pretty classy and I loved the old timey feel. The food was great too. I got a top sirloin with duck fat french fries and horseradish sauce and Jamaican wings. All of it was great except my steak came medium rare when I asked for medium. Their complimentary bread and honey butter was AMAZING. For dessert I had the "espresso" chocolate cake which tasted like someone forgot the espresso and like a normal boxed chocolate cake, not a fan. The crème brûlée I tried from someone else was definitely the better decision. My Old Fashioned with their own twist was really good (star of my drinks) along with my craft beer and espresso martini (for desert of course). I don't have an opinion on the pricing though (as it was all paid for me), which may potentially lower this score. The service was good too, as good as it could've been for a party of 20+. The bartender was great and the servers were ok, but once again this was a party of 20+. All in all I give Local Chop & Grill House a 9/10. (Pricing not included in final score)

WOW! This is the best restaurant in Harrisonburg and the surrounding areas. The service is top notch, with a prime setting and excellent vibes topped with great waitresses. We splurged and tried a lot and it was still rather reasonable for the quality food we reached. The focaccia was cooked to perfection and add their whipped butter, wow! The Filet Mignon was top notch. The Mac n Cheese is a must, the flavor is shocking and makes you want more.

Everything we ate was fresh and delicious! The service was outstanding. Ambiance is classic steakhouse warmth.

Great, upscale restaurant in a slightly awkward location in Harrisonburg. Perfect place to take loved ones out for a special occasion - in our case, a birthday. Menu changes seasonally and most ingredients are sourced locally, which our server was happy to boast about. The server was very knowledgeable and went above and beyond what is expected of them. Everyone in my party was very satisfied with what they ordered - from pasta, to seafood, to salad, to steak - all of it was excellent. My entree was the grilled 8oz sirloin with fries. They have six sauces for you to pick from, and each the server has recommendations for what sauce pairs well with each entree. The server recommended the arugula chimichurri and I was not disappointed. If you do come here, I'd recommend making a reservation. It does seem like it could fill up quickly. I don't plan on coming here very often, but I will definitely be planning a graduation dinner for my loved ones here eventually!

Was in Harrisonburg for a work trip. Made a quick reservation online. There wasn't much in the way of parking, but found easy parking on the street. Service was amazing. The old fashioned was delicious. My steak was slightly dry and overcooked, but still very flavorful. Mashed potatoes were amazing and loved the horseradish sauce. My dining partner really enjoyed the duck fat fries and the bread with his meal. Another plus it's open on Mondays when other places around town are not. Would definitely return.

TL;DR - In no way shape or form would I ever return to this place. One of the most disappointing dining experiences in years, and we eat out a lot. I cannot understand how this is so highly rated. We came here on a Friday evening. Having never been here before, we made reservations for the "sunroom". Problem #1 - the building is old, and could be beautiful with some TLC, but the sunroom has stained brown carpet squares, dirty windows, a random tv on the wall with cables hanging off it. Problem #2 - we were seated next to a very large, VERY LOUD, VERY VERY DRUNK family who was yelling at/over each other. We couldn't even hear the waiter over their cacophony. I asked if we could be seated at a quieter table was told we had reserved the sunroom so we needed to stay there. Problem #3 - the food. 2 of us ordered Wagyu burgers. Both were overcooked and tough, and server on grocery store buns. One burger was extremely salty, the other wasn't salted at all. Service was good, but not enough to make up for the above.

AWESOME mac and cheese and seasonal slider!

Here we are AGAIN!!! Just the best! From the minute we were seated in the Lounge, Logan was there to assist! He knew the menu perfectly and we ordered YUMMY food. The wings were tender and the sauce...the "money sauce" was excellent. My slider was great! Hubby ordered the strip steak, locally sourced, that was done to perfection. OH ...the mac and cheese was a great addition.

Ask the Community - Local Chop & Grill House

    Is it kids friendly?

I'd say this place is more for couples only, like a romantic date night. They will not turn away kids but every time we have went here I have seen NO kids.

Can you accommodate a group of 20-25 for a rehearsal dinner?

Yes we can, please go to our website www.localchops.com or call the restaurant at (540)801-0505

It contains a generous portion of sliced chicken breast on a pillowy soft sub roll laced with Boom-Boom sauce, a mild to very moderately spicy concoction. The parking is plentiful. There are several outdoor tables as well as a couple of indoor ones. All around the Market are the most stunning rolling corn fields, pastures, impossibly green pastures, and majestic mountain vistas. The next afternoon, I popped in for some takeaway brisket, pulled pork, and freshly made cole slaw. Amazing!! The tomato based BBQ pork sauce is perfectly spicy and sweet. The brisket BBQ sauce has a dark rich smoky flavor. The cole slaw is beyond perfection. Crunchy, fresh, and not over-saturated in dressing. A superb take-home and heat up meal. I put the pork and the brisket in a cast iron skillet with a pan as a lid and heated it in the oven for 30 minutes at 325 degrees (always check your internal meat temperatures, of course). The chocolate cupcakes with chocolate icing are also delicious. The cake is light and fluffy and the icing is just the perfect sweetness. It is a true pleasure to go to the Sunrise Market & Deli.

It is located in a strip mall with ample parking not far at all from the interstate. I was promptly seated by a nice older woman who communicated with me by pointing. Don't get me wrong. I liked that as it brought authenticity to the establisment and very much unlike the time i went into a Chinese restaurant and they were blaring Sinatra music! Within a minute an Asian woman presented me with a menu and shortly afterwards took my order. I chose a cup of wonton soup and green curry with tofu as I was in a vegetarian mood. The wonton was hot and delicious with ample chives. Next came my red curry with tofu and steamed white rice, medium spicy, which was delicious as well! ( At other Asian restaurants in the past, I've made the sad mistake of ordering the "you asked for it" hot, and after about few seconds, lost my capacity to taste!) Being in proximity to James Madison University, there was a tablefull of collegiate who departed upon my arrival. They have a full bar in which I did not partake. ( Did i mention that I arrived at about 4:15PM on a Saturday in early April?) There were two, clean (important to me!) unisex rest rooms. My total was $22 to which i added a 25% tip. In summary, 5 star in my book. If near Harrisonburg or on I-81, check it out!
