I needed some climbing vines for walls and my local sources in East County mostly didn't have inventory in this. I placed an order from a nursery in South Bay but they messed the order up twice! I like the DIY program at Briggs and their plants are superior in quality (excellent condition) to almost any I've seen, at wholesale prices though! I'll definitely go back there, even though it's an hour's drive from my home, one way. My suggestion is to come with botanical names of the plants you want (look them up on the web) and a vehicle that can hold them all. Stay away from this Nursery. The customer service and condescending nature of staff is abhorrent. I went to Briggs Nursery looking for drought tolerant ground cover that would spread quickly. There was a very kind gentlemen, I don't know his name but he has grey hair and works at the entry station helping customers with any questions they may have. He asked if he could help me. I told him what I was I was looking for, and he proceeded to tell me that the best choice for me would be a particular kind. He told me how much I would need to cover the area I had and how to care for it. I appreciated the help and over $400.00 later, I was out the door. We went home and had our landscaper plant our 15 flats of plants and like the gentlemen said we had our irrigation run daily. Within a few weeks 2/3 of the plants died. My landscaper goes back to Briggs to talk to them about what happened and he tells me to call back and speak with a "Jess." I call her, and the first thing she says is "you got a great deal and you got a military discount." So, I serve my country and that is why I deserve to have my plants die? She then tells me that they usually only sell to landscapers at wholesale, but homeowners benefit from the prices. She tells me that the people that there are no guarantees at their nursery even if their product dies that quickly. She also tells me with the particular plant that I bought, the few remaining plants that are alive will spread quickly and will cover the area without issue. So, I asked her, why then did the gentlemen who helped me tell me to buy 15 flats for the sq. ft. I had instead of much less. This could have saved me hundreds of dollars. She tells me that the people who work there are not required to know about the plants. So I suggested that instead of answering customers questions as if they do, they should instead tell customers that they "don't know about the plants." I said, "I don't think you know where I am coming from," and she lost it and all of the sudden took that as me saying she was dumb or something. I would never call someone dumb. Yes, I was frustrated, first i was told how much plant I needed, it cost me over $400.00, 2/3 of them die within 2 weeks, when I talk to the business about it I am told that I shouldn't worry because the plant I bought can spread like crazy so it will fill in, so I did not have to spend the $400 in the first place!! To top it off, she hangs up the phone after thinking I called her "dumb" by saying "I don't think you understand where I am coming from." and she tells the room that I was rude and called her "dumb." One of my favorite happy places!! Great variety and Very friendly people too. I enjoy that you can drive through the nursery.

Briggs may not get the best customer service award but since they've been known to save me a ton of money, I'm willing to let it slide. They're not rude but they cater to a lot of builders, developers and landscapers so folks are not necessarily roaming around making sure you're doing ok. You're on your own out there which doesn't bother me the least because I usually know exactly what I'm looking for. I used to buy from Green Thumbs nursery and Armstrong but I would spend so much money on my garden - it was hard to enjoy. Buying here at wholesale prices makes me enjoy my bargain garden and sit back and have no regrets. read more

Called in to make sure they had Night Blooming Jasmin in stock after calling several other local nurseries who did not and they told me come on in they had 40 in stock. I drove from San Diego to North County and went in the office were a staff member again checked their computer to make sure it was indeed still in stock, he said "there should be 40 of them out there" I was handed a map and told to drive to a certain area of the nursery were I would find them. After spending 40 minutes looking and nobody from the front office wondering were I went or if I found what I was looking for I called the office. They said oh we may have sold them all, you could come back to the front office and we can will call them for you to be delivered in from their growing grounds at which time I can drive back from San Diego and spend another $50 dollars in gas to buy 3 or 4 five dollar plants I needed for my project, No thanks. Make double sure this company has what you need in stock before making the move. I do not know what computer everyone was looking at but it was not accurate and cost me very valuable time money and trouble to get nothing........ read more

Good selection of plants/trees, but no helpful/friendly staff if you have questions or if you are new to gardening/plants. They missed out on a sale because no one wanted to discuss the plants we were looking for. They were unhelpful when asking about types of plants and growing conditions and even a little rude. They give you a map and you basically have to figure out the rest. They had the plants we wanted, but I found another nursery instead because I didn't want to give them my business after how I was treated. read more

I find they have plants I acquire which are as good as it gets of high quality, - that's why I give them five stars. No business is entirely perfect, and I realize some say that five stars are thrown around like Christmas candy,... but, Briggs has top quality plants (I'm not saying they all are, as with any nursery, realistically speaking) which I and my clients are fully satisfied with. Several months ago I bought five 15 gallon Giant Timber Bamboo plants (Bambusa oldhamii). Turns out that at least one of the plants was infected with mealybugs which are now spreading to the other bamboo plants I purchased at the same time. Very disappointed that Briggs sells plants with pest problems. BTW I have no other plants on my property with this type of pest so they could only have come from their stock of bamboo. The best I can say is that their prices are competitive (but not worth it at half the price if they are not pest-free). Will not shop there again. Also, like many other reviewers have noted I found most of their employees to be short tempered. I understand that things are tough, and that they are probably overworked and understaffed but hey, we are all in the same boat. Don't take it out on me. read more

The selection is great and the pricing is competitive. BUT and this is a big but, the customer service is atrocious. I understand that the nursery is primarily for commercial accounts and lacking in end-user support like species signage and care sheets for the retail buyers, but the ground help just appear utterly annoyed at just helping retail customers with simply writing tickets. If you are not answering plant questions at least do your job at writing tickets. Not to mention, don't even dare ask them any questions about any of the plants. They will look at you with contempt and give you a very generic answer or just tell you it's self service business. Completely useless. The sales guy with the beard is the worst, can't even manage to help you write a ticket when there was no one around! Go for the price and selection if you must but be ready to be thoroughly dissatisfied by the ground sales people. To be fair the ladies at the counter are much nicer since they are there to take your money. But the sales guy outside is a complete tool! read more

You're pretty much on your own at this place and need to be able to identify plants visually from a distance. This is a massive nursery and much too big to walk through so you need to identify what you are looking for while driving up and down the rows in you car. Also, not everything is labeled and if you do find a label its the latin name only and does not include not the common name. Dont expect to get much help because not many people are around that are willing to help and dont get there after 2:30 pm because they often lock the gates much earlier than the stated closing time. That being said, anything and everything you need is here. By far the biggest selection of annuals and perennials of any public nursery in the area and since its wholesale the prices are 20 to 30 percent lower than what you'll find elsewhere.The quality of the plants is excellent as well. I plan to buy all of my plants here from now on. My advice? Go around to other nurseries to window shop. Take pictures on your phone, ask questions, figure out what you need. Once you know what you are looking for, go to Briggs Tree to buy everything. The prices are Briggs are just too good to pass up. read more

I love this place. I love the wonderful selection of plants they have. The have 4 inch bedding plants all the way up to huge trees. Their plants are healthy and cared for, which is more than I can say for the big box stores. This is a nursery. That is what they do here. The big box stores have a nursery that is part of a store with many other departments. The people that work in those places don't have the kind of plant knowledge that Briggs has. In my dealings with staff, they have always been helpful, professional and courteous. OK, can we talk about the prices? They are way lower than the big box stores. I love that I can buy much more for the same price than I could at the big box stores. They also carry plants you can't find at the other stores. Yes, they have a no return policy, and the big box stores do. I can't think of a time when I purchased a plant that didn't do well because it was unhealthy. Usually it is I who is the culprit when a plant doesn't do well. This is a excellent place to shop for beautiful plants for your garden. read more

If you are looking for customer service, go anywhere else. I had problems with some of my plants immediately dying despite being professionally installed and irrigated. I called Briggs simply to let them know and to see if there was any remedy. I was met with hostility right out of the gate. While I understand that Briggs does not guarantee their plants and that sometimes plants don't survive transplantation, as a customer I expect more than and immediate accusative tone. An apology would have sufficed or even feigned concern. Instead, I was told "this is not Home Depot" (typical brush off response from places like this to excuse their bad customer service practices) and asked if I watered them (the functional equivalent of a computer tech asking if your computer is plugged in when your internet doesn't work). I will now have to pay to have ~$150 worth of dead trees removed and replaced. In the future I will be taking my business elsewhere and recommend that others consider doing the same. read more

i am a local contractor so my experiences may be different than homeowners. they have a great selection of plants and if I can't find something they will will call it for me. they have consistently good service and the negative comments seem to be coming from homeowners that don't know what they're doing or don't know what they want. they are not set up as a full service retail nursery such as Walter Andersons or green thumb. homeowners should go to full-service retail nurseries and not a wholesale open to the public. read more

They have a very large selection and stock. I have not compared the prices, but the price seemed fair for the olive tree that I bought. This is more of a wholesale nursery than a full service nursery. Being that this is my first visit, I am not sure how knowledgeable they are but they answered all of my questions. I am upgrading my yard with nothing but drought tolerant and low maintenance plants and they have a good selection of succulents from what I can tell. They have stuff that I have not seen before. I went here on the recommendation of a friend. I was looking for about 30 potted plants for my wedding. I got there at about 3:15 on a Saturday. I parked my car and a young man ran over to my window and told me that I need to leave. I hadn't even shut off my car so I turned it off and said "what?" He said they were closing and I needed to leave. I asked what time they close and he said 3:30. I looked at my phone and thought ok, well it's not quite 3:30. I looked around and the parking lot was full of cars and the nursery was full of people shopping. I guess their business is doing well enough to turn people away 10 minutes before they close, with a shop full of people mind you. I'll take my business where is appreciated. By the way the man stood at the window of my car until I left and he and a woman nearly slammed the gate on my car as I tried to leave. Understand that this is not a full service nursery. You will have to drive around the land and have an idea of what you are looking for, so bring your Sunset Western Gardening book, or what not, and be prepared to load your own truck, nothing surprising here when you consider the $ saved landscaping. :0 ...you need to take notes on what items you are loading with the accompanying price. On Saturday we purchased 12 bushes at $11.50 each, but somehow got charged $24.50 for 6 of them. Yeah, "our bad" that we had to turn around and make the trip back; but THEIR BAD for arguing about it. In the end we were credited almost $100.00 for their error. We will be back, but next time will take notes on prices of our purchases and will ask that "greeter" lady as few questions as possible ;) read more

I've been back a few times, and while it still remains a little difficult to find things here, there are a few things that make this place a winner. Well, really, it's still the prices. The prices are so much better that every other aspect becomes trivial. If you are smart about it and a semi-educated on the plants you want, you will be golden. Know what you want, and know what it looks like. Check the website for availability and pricing before you go. You might have to make a call to the office while you're there searching to make sure you're in the right spot. They do have an area near front office where many typical landscape plants can be found close to the entrance. It's the place to go for Bouganvilleas. There are miles of them here. They don't have everything, less succulents than the place across the road, and less natives like the place just south of that, but a lot of quality options big and small, and again when they do have them, the prices are so much better, you'll want like four more of what you got. Either way, you may have to dedicate more time, drive around a lot, stop and go along the dirt paths, walking some miles aimlessly, but in the end you will feel it is all worth it for the money you saved along the way. It's still not a place to go for novice advice and holding of hands through the process, or full service, but it's a huge place with great plants and if you do your homework and have a little experience looking for plants, you'll find them for so much less here that you will feel silly buying anywhere else in the end. read more

I moved to Escondido recently and my neighbor suggested Briggs as the best around. She was right. Their prices are way better than the big box DIY stores and better than 3 other nearby nurseries. We checked. It is wholesale and self serve so you have to know what you want, but they'll help you load the plants into your truck. The lady at the front who wrote up my order was fantastic and friendly. She gave me the frequent buyer discount even though it was my 1st trip. I'd give zero stars if I could. It takes a lot to push me enough to review either good or bad - we recently bought over $3k worth of trees and plants from Briggs. My wife and I are by no means plant specialists, so we asked Briggs to pick out our orchid trees (2 of them) and include them in our delivery. When they delivered, our orchid trees looked very weak and small; not at all what we saw on the lot. We took delivery and planted, thinking Briggs must be responsible enough to trust. Long short, the trees are the only plants which are dying, so we called Briggs to get some help. Horrible Horrible Horrible customer service - more like calling someone who hates you... told them our situation and was of no help whatsoever on how best to care for these trees. I revisited the nursery and checked on my species to compare against what they have... not anywhere near the same tree - so I go to the front to discuss with the "customer service" people. The ultra rude lady said "you accepted delivery" so no refunds, it's posted everywhere. I explained that they got the species wrong and we didn't know it wasn't the right trees... she didn't give one hoot. So there's $400 down the drain. Needless to say, we won't be buying from these crabby, crooked plant scammers ever again. read more

This place is an awesome landscaper style nursery . Option to park and walk around the (huge!) nursery, or stay in your car and cruise around the isles. Such a great variety of succulents and garden plants and in a variety of sizes as well. But this is not the type of place with fountains, pottery, and gardening supplies, it is strictly plants and some soil options. They also have the best sale! This past weekend was 25% off everything and we scored on some great ground cover plants to update or landscaping for spring and summer !Last time the sale occurred we scored a small dragon tree for $60! A very good (general public, too) nursery with reasonably-priced multiples of what most people are looking for in their yards. (I hate it when I need 6 of a plant, and a nursery has only 2 "stragglies" in stock...) Plenty to choose from here, and I bought 10 plants. The root development in all was excellent, ensuring a good transplant survival rate. Much stronger specimens than big-box store nursery stock. A bit of a drive to Vista, but worth it. Just do your research ahead, as this is mostly a drive-through/self-serve nursery (my favorite kind!). read more

My team called yesterday and spoke with sales people twice to double check stock. We drove thirty minutes to pick up three large trees for one of the rental properties, and we were amazed that they had more selection than expected. we toured the facility, which is a WHOLESALE NURSERY. (I love the comments from people that only shop and come in with a Nordstrom like attitude.) it is a WHOLESALE NURSERY!!!!! I am glad those people do not come back as there is more selection for us. Sales staff was busy but hey, its a Saturday and the place was busy after the rains. gotta have a special shout out to Tina and Gervacio.....entire trip was done is 90 mins. with loading three 24" boxes from across the street. Elitest reviewers should be warned that Wholesales means Wholesale....who has time to post over 650 photos....get a job! All in all, we put the trees in the ground today at 8:30 and will update the post. the advices we received was check with licensed arborists and these folks are spot on with their depth of knowledge. 6/6/2018 Time for an update on the trees we planted at the rental property....they look great and going strong...everyone is happy and they have grown about a foot....my babies are growing up!!!!! read more
