We recently discovered this N County gem! There is a special feeling about supporting a local family-owned business. The vibe is definitely different than at a corporate chain box. In the same location since 1930, Clausen is a must visit if you are looking to enhance your fruit tee game! With an ever-rotating stock of fruit trees, nut trees, and berry bushes, Clausen is staffed by friendly and knowledgeable individuals who will gladly share their expertise with you. The prices are lower than large nurseries and home improvement stores by a significant margin for a similarly sized tree. Value, selection, variety, and service leave those other places in the proverbial dust. We took home a Satsuma Mandarin, Santa Rosa Plum, Somerset Apple, Pomegranate, Strawberry Guava, Passion Fruit, and Apricot trees. Did I mention we wanted to enhance our fruit-tree game? It's been approximately three weeks since we visited Clausen Nursery and our trees are thriving and doing great. We are looking forward to watching our orchard mature and produce. For three generations, Clausen has been helping backyard wanna-be farmers like yours truly by offering great value and selection of trees. Thank you, Clausen Nursery!

There's a fruit tasting table and I remember the first time I came in and tasted some fruit I'd never even heard of before. If you're a foodie or if you enjoy rare or tropical fruit or even if you're a fan of botanical gardens, this place is amazing It's a mom and pop place (actually just a pop place cause I think the owner Steve who started it still runs it by himself). The sign said they have been here since the 80s. Anyway because it's a small nursery and open 7 days a week, it's a good idea to call if you're planning to make a long journey to visit just to make sure they haven't stepped out. It's usually fine but I see people on other reviews have come in from far away without calling and it's just a good idea to call if it's a mom and pop nursery and you have a long drive. My favorite fruit was white sapote, cherimoya, the bazillions of types of guavas they have, ice cream bean was delicious, and I never knew palms have delicious fruit (what????). I come about twice a year from San Diego and as San Diego nurseries go, this place is in a league of its own. I even just like walking around in there to relax cause it's almost like a fruit botanical garden. And some of the small stuff is very affordable Highly recommend if you have a few hours free to explore this place. It's a great nursery -- kinda like the Garden of Eden!

Unfortunately, we lived in Encinitas so the climate didn't allow the avocado to thrive but she loved getting Asian/Hawaiian plants, and fruits from this nursery. The scene that will greet you is a dirt path and two-sided parking spaces. Try them, very wooded and dense, like you are in the forest, which I loved since I am from back East and we have huge trees and green wooded areas. The staff are very knowledgeable and the value is great. If your plant doesn't grow, call them, and they guide you or replace the plant. I love this place. If I had a house, I would be here for my roses and fruit plants.

Thank God Gio found me. He is so knowledgeable, professional, kind, funny, and has lots of patience to deal with a picky and curious person like me. He takes his time to show me around. I was lucky to try many different selections of fruits, some I can compared to store bought and many I haven't heard of. The fruits you get from the nursery tasted so much different than the store bought one, more fresh and flavorful in my opinions. I ended up buying a couple trees and am looking forward to buy more in the future. This is my new favorite nursery to visit and highly recommend to anybody who wants to buy quality plants from people who know their products well. Their price is decent and candid. The experience from start to finish was refreshing and fun, and thanks to Gio, I walked out feeling happy and confident of my purchase.

Jungle Jack's!! The name alone makes you wanna go. The only difficulty was their hours, as most days they close at 2pm. Luckily we had the perfect opportunity with it being the Valentine Day weekend, I wanted to get my wife something special and we took the whole family up to Jungle Jack's. While it was a little out of the way the drive was certainly worth it, nice to see all parts of San Diego. When we arrived we found some parking and started to walk around. The nursery itself is massive - tons of space with a huge assortment of plants along with a metric ton of Plumeria. My personal favorite aspects were the theme - they didn't shy away from the Jungle aspect of the name. Ended up sitting in some pretty cool Elephant chairs where I met the adorable dog aka: Cowboy. We found everything we were looking for and the staff were not only knowledgable but super friendly. Was such a treat to go out there - our family felt very welcomed. We certainly made some big purchases that day - it felt like it was well worth the investment. Not only with the quality of the plants, but wanting to support the store. Gotta love supporting local businesses. If you are looking for some Plumeria this is certainly a nursery to check out.

Patrick came over last month and helped us plant both trees and gave us some awesome tips on upkeep. For the Meyer tree he suggested a nitrogen-rich fertilizer and a well-draining acidic soil. For the Bougainvillea, he suggested planting in the ground. We dug a hole twice as wide as the root ball, left the plant in its original plastic grow pot, and just cut off the bottom and slashed the sides.
