I show up 10min early and the front desk person shows up 10min late after opening with a starbucks coffee in her hand. She began calling names to come up since there were a few of us already waiting but then it became chaotic as people started walking through the front door and going straight to the desk to check in. The staff were friendly but their english was broken. I speak Spanish as well but trying to explain some dental like terms was difficult and when explaining it in English they had trouble understanding it... The Doctor was worthless and useless. She came in and disregarded everything I said and talked to me like a child. I have been dealing with sensitive teeth for years and her recommendations were things I already tried but she didn't care what I said. If I have an emergency situation, then why do I have to wait for a doctor's clearance, my tooth is now hurting worse than before and I can't get any help from this dentist to get some relief from the pain. I thought that doctor's if any kind are supposed to care about people, well it doesn't appear that this dentist care about anyone, especially in an emergency! The office is trashy. That is a huge red flag, but I needed an appointment quickly so I wouldn't have to commute to my old dentist in a different county. I was already planning on looking for a new dentist when I have time. Now I have to asap. Even though Emily and Sarah both know that my appointment was for this morning, one of them put in their computer notes that I made the mistake and that my appointment is on 7/1. I found this out when I filed a complaint with EJ Dental's home office. The home office found that I am correct and that someone there changed the date in their computers. I don't know who is putting the false information in the computer. I have my suspicions, but don't know for sure who. It's a reality check for me, and maybe for you, that sometimes the people we trust, rely on to assist us in our effort towards good health, might not be who they seem to be. Beware of people who say not to worry, you are in good hands, while at the same time, quoting you some outlandish price for your care. Imagine this... You have just lost the most important person to you. You watched them struggle, year after year and then finally succumb to what caused them continual pain and sorrow. Imagine then too... You have an abscess on the roof of your mouth, that because you cared for the most important person to you, you were not able to get it taken care of. But, you go ahead anyway and get the first part done on that same day. You just are not strong enough, emotionally, to know where else to turn. The manager has you initial many sheets of paper, right after that first procedure. You are still drowsy from Nitrous oxide (gas). The print is small and you can't make any of it out. Crying, you ask if he can't do something about the $18,000. tag. No, he says. Before you leave, you give said dentist's office $4000. Your sister tells you later, she had the same exact thing done for $5000. She too had an infection in her bone. She too needed 2 crowns and a bridge. You wonder about all this. Is it possible that a dentist would be so calloused, so opportunistic, as to inflate his prices to such a degree, knowing you have also experienced losing the most important person to you and while you are grieving? Some kind of rescue needs to happen! Your niece steps in. She demands accountability. She demands an itemized receipt of what was done. They comply. Or at least try to. The office just keeps changing that estimate along with the dates, along with details of what was done. They make no sense and it's quite obvious, they know it. Their first estimate changes to a bit over $15,000. Yes, FIFTEEN THOUSAND DOLLARS. Still an inflated price. They say you need to come back. They want to finish the job. The insurance company is informed and they GASP when the story is related to them. They encourage you to file a grievance and get a new dentist. Your niece finds you another dentist. You go, she drills and completes the job @ $3600. Not, $11,000. more. Like I shared, I want to believe in good and honest men and women, but sometimes, you have to accept that, that's not always possible. Instead, we were hit with a bill around $2,000 with multiple charges that were never clearly explained or approved ahead of time. They billed the insurance almost $7k while not showing all the extra "services" they were adding on to our bill. They showed my wife the total but failed to mention all these extra services that drove up the bill! They tried to make her think this was normal for a cleaning and cavities. For example, they billed $88 for "oral hygiene instructions" which is something most dentists include as part of a normal visit, not as a separate charge to our insurance. All they did was told her to floss! There were also additional lab panels and testing added without any real discussion or consent beforehand. The biggest issue is not just the cost, it is the lack of transparency. At no point were we given a clear breakdown before the work was done. We only saw the full charges after the fact. This place is the new mechanic shop where they take advantage of women who might not know any better. Patients deserve to know what they are agreeing to and how much it will cost before being treated. This felt misleading and left us with zero trust in this office.
