This practice is not only unacceptable--it feels deceptive and exploitative. From start to finish, this experience has been deeply frustrating and has undermined my ability to manage my health effectively. After being informed that she had intended to "do me a favor" - but no longer - I took the scooter back to the car and left. Seems to me that the person with the money who was patronizing her local business was the one "doing the favor." Turns out the scooter was purchased there. Go figure.
