My son and I spend several months out of the year at my parents lake house in Northern Michigan…read more Summer is very busy with dogs, kids, and adults running in and out of the house all day long. With the lake and boat dock just 100 yards out the front door, it can be very challenging with little ones who aren't quite swimmers yet, but want so badly to be out with the bigger kids playing. You just can't predict when they will try and sneak out and play while you aren't paying attention. For this reason, this will be our third year taking lessons with Vicki. I wanted our son to be able to SAVE HIMSELF if god forbid something happened, he got out, and fell off the dock, or whatever. I know firsthand that being a good swimmer has nothing to do with saving yourself, especially when you are panicking. In addition to all of the water rules my parents have had in place for the last 40 years, which everyone, kids and adults included, are required to follow, these lessons are just one more tool in our safety kit. My mother is always super impressed with his water skills at such a young age. Vicki is great, and makes sure the parent knows what is happening. However, it is uncomfortable for some kids, and can be uncomfortable to watch at times. The kids are getting their face and head wet, they are learning to flip over and float on their backs, learning to be calm and breathe while floating on their back. Lessons are work, it is not a bunch of splashing around and fun. They are learning a new skill, which can be frustrating and uncomfortable. From my experience, many of the kids really blossom and start to love lessons towards the end, and some, like my son, tolerate it but don't love it. Which is fine, it isn't about him loving it, it's about him instinctually knowing what to do if he falls in the lake while we aren't around. I'm hoping since he is three this year, he will enjoy lessons more, but even if he doesn't, oh well. For my family, these lessons are the equivalent of wearing helmets and pads while playing sports, or sitting in your car seat in the car. Safety comes first, then the fun. We can't recommend Vicki enough, she has squeezed us in for extra lessons when needed, and worked with us by testing him not only in his clothes when he falls in the water, but also helping us select and test life jackets, so we were able to select the one which allowed our son to utilize his self rescue skills. Since we are on a lake, making sure we had selected the most appropriate life jacket was critical. Sign your kids up, you won't be sorry!

At no time was my husband or I notified of an incident occurring at the facility or during art class. Rob McDonald and Whitney Seaton both employees of the Rec facility assumed I was aware of the situation solely based on speculation that my aunt who was caring for my daughter while I was away on business had been able to get a hold of me. The first time I heard from any party was when Rob McDonald called my cell phone to tell me the outcome or determination for my daughter's enrollment in the class. Rob called and stated my daughter could no longer attend art class at their facility. Rob and Whitney did not call us as parents to inform us of the incident or to tell us that you all would need to speak to all parties involved like my daughter or the other party BEFORE coming to a decision. They spoke to the other party ONLY and decided based on that one party. Due to the other party involved being Caucasian and us being minorities this does make the situation feel race related. It does cause my husband and I to feel like there are grounds for a civil suit for discrimination. Not only did you all reprimand my daughter, but you all allowed a white entitled father to also reprimand her. You all failed my daughter and did not keep her safe. Pflugerville Parks and Recreation Dept as a whole needs new procedures and policies in place to protect other children of color from discrimination like what my daughter was subjected to. You all are at fault for how this situation was handled. Young Rembrandts and the Pflugerville Parks and Recreation facility decided based on a "she said" scenario without communicating with all parties involved and doing an actual investigation. Our daughter was traumatized and terrified by the father that approached her. Rob and Whitney continue to word things like you aren't privy to what occurred at the facility entrance and framing things as if he approached my aunt and daughter. Please do not minimize or attempt to downplay what that father did. He walked up to my 8-year-old black daughter, and he said, "Did we have a problem today?" My then terrified 8-year-old responded to him and began to explain herself. This is a situation that no child should ever find themselves in. I will not stand for any injustices. I do not recommend this facility if you are a minority.

It's definitely an aging facility that doesn't boast the latest in exercise equipment, but we have those places around. Here's what I love: $2/hour child care, and it's GOOD -- people who seem to love kids are taking care of them. $1 walking track -- you can't beat that for a walking alternative when it's too hot, cold or rainy. Finally, great programming -- the swim lessons at Gilleland Creek, gymnastics for kids -- again, taught by kind, loving and knowledgable instructors. I really feel like this is a special gem that gives me the warm "pfuzzies" about Pflugerville! :)

Scheduling is a breeze and they come to you, which is ideal for us. Our instructor, Mya, has been kind and patient with our son, and he has made so much progress in only 9 lessons. At first I loved it, we got a Groupon and loved how welcoming the front desk was. I finally felt like I was seen where at another gym I just felt like they could care less if we were there or not which I didn't care for. Platinum made us feel valued and seen. Well, I noticed pretty quickly the constant turnover of coaches, every week my daughters preschool class had a new coach which was discouraging as every week I had to tell my 3yo to not let them hold her hand. My daughter has been walking on a beam for a year without help yet every week with a new coach they would treat her like a baby again. My 5 year old started moving up into the pre team track and it was exciting! I was looking forward to better form, somewhat stricter coaching etc to see her skills really blossom but... honestly it wasn't much different. My daughter would do a terrible cartwheel and they were high giving her and baby taking "great job, wow". Palm to face, this is the pre team track and that flies??? Well they wanted to love her up again, she has been 5 for barely 2 months and wanted her to be on the actual pre team. Practice twice a week which isn't bad but wait for it.... For THREE HOURS on both days, 3:30-6:30. She just turned 5 teal and her skills aren't great, she has potential but she's no Shannon Miller and she's not even close to competing so why am I going to pay $225 a month to burn her out when she's in preschool. To me, here what I see, they are suffering. They need the money, they are pushing these kids up in ranks to fill the spots but these kids are not superstars, not yet at least. They need better coaching, more consistent staff, and higher standards. Final straw was when the owners husband (who is also an owner) and was working at the gym was arrested and being investigated for sex crimes. There was not a peep from them, nothing. To me this is something that should have been addressed, even a simple email stating what was going on and what steps they were taking. Example: As some of you may know, X was recently placed in custody for a crime. We want to assure you X will not be working at the gym during, at minimum, the investigation. We do think the girls were nice, very sweet! But as far as a competitive gymnastics program, keep looking y'all... this isn't the place.

An "I'm sorry" was not in his vocabulary. I'm very disappointed bc as a business owner he should have said "We're sorry that happened to you, now let's see what we can do to fix the problem." That is customer service 101. The facility is nice and brand new. Should have someone walk thru the girls bathroom midday, everyday, to see if paper towel, soap, and toilet paper needs refilling. The private lessons (1x1) are reasonably priced. I just wish it was better communication when they charge my card on file. I receive an email receipt when they charge my card, and it would be helpful if they had a line or a little space where they could add the reason for the charge.

Thought it might be a good option for us, so wanted to check it out. After checking in, they said the coach would be out soon and showed us where to line up. When the time came, the kids lined up and were called in, but the ninja coach never came to introduce herself, which was disappointing. After a group stretching session, they split off into their own programs. At the ninja station, there just was not much going on. I was bored just watching them repeat the same few things over and over again. The instructor was bored too as she was yawning nonstop. At one point she was literally just sitting there while the kids kind of did free play on their own. I'm not sure if they do different things each class or if it's the same but this looks like it would get boring after 3-4 sessions. Once it was over, the coach did still did not come meet nor was there any follow up on whether we want to sign up or share thoughts. For me, this program was missing a few key things I expect - safety, inclusion, and real opportunities for growth, confidence, and community. The instructor barely paid attention, the activities felt unstructured, and there was no sense of connection or purpose. So basically it's just a really expensive option to have someone unenthusiastically watch your kid for one hour. The gymnastics side looked more active and organized, so maybe that is their main focus and the ninja program is just an add-on. Either way, I was really disappointed with the Lil ninja program. Also, the facility itself felt kind of dingy. The vending machine was broken and the space did not seem super clean or well kept. Would not recommend Lil ninja based on what I saw.

We have been…read moreworking with her for a few months now and my 2.5 year old daughter has improved on her swimming so much. She shouts "ready" when she wants to jump in, can jump into the water and swim to the nearest wall, can float and turn, hold her breath and probably some other things I'm currently forgetting but all in just a few months of lessons! My daughter adores her and once she's in the pool (toddlers can be iffy) she has a blast. She comes to our house for lessons currently and we are so excited that she can continue teaching my daughter in an indoor swimming pool over the winter. Highly recommend!
