You are familiar with the phrase "put lipstick on a pig?" Sometimes you end up with a beautiful pig, actually. Such is the case with the Brittany, which is an old-school 10-room motor lodge of the type that used to be operated as a Ma-and-Pa business by owners who lived above the office and did all the work themselves. Many of these hotels have disappeared, most that remain are of somewhat questionable quality. Not so the Brittany: it has been reasonably spruced up and operated on a streamlined basis, such that (seriously, to my surprise) I had a better two-day stay than I had at the last two Hampton Inns I've stayed at. As noted, this is a self-service motel (it's so lo-fi, I'm tempted to call it a lo-tel) where you get a text with your room code and number and you let yourself in. The rooms are basic but comfortable (this may be the only hotel I've ever stayed at that didn't have "hotel art" on the walls, which was honestly kind of a pleasant change of pace). There is a breakfast room of sorts -- "The Gathering Place" -- which is a converted former room that has a cold a la carte self-serve selection of things. (The hotel is refreshed mysteriously while guests are out and about; I was up at 5 AM and the coffee, according to the machine, had been made nine minutes earlier, but I never even saw an extra car in the parking lot. Stealthy!) I wish the Gathering Place had been open a bit later than it was, as I wanted to play one of the games I had spotted at breakfast, but using Elf labor probably requires they lock it up a bit earlier. Similarly, there's a nice fire pit with a mountain view and adirondack chairs out front, but it's a mystery as to how one might use the fire pit without logs and such available. (BYO Duraflame?) The setting is quite peaceful, and while I could hear stirrings from the room adjacent -- there's only so much you can do with old construction to soundproof it -- the other occupants were quite quiet. Around you is a whole lot of nothing, although it's just a few minutes south of Manchester center, so getting provisions is easy. No microwaves in the rooms, but there's a mini-fridge, stocked with some complimentary water. The TV was also the tiniest screen I've seen in a room since CRT TVs went by the wayside, but all I wanted to watch was the Red Sox game, and they had NESN, so I soldiered on. There are a few other nits I could pick, but the old-school full-sized bathtub was a pleasant surprise and a big upgrade over all the identical awful shower-only bathrooms in almost every hotel around these days, so I will gloss over those nits. One particular kudos on the amenities: there was herb tea with the self-serve coffee! THANK YOU! It's appreciated by those of us who like a nice tisane before going to sleep. So this isn't a five-star hotel like the Four Seasons, but it's a five star motel within its class - decent value for the money, well-operated, quiet. The quiet part is all I really want from a hotel stay (that and having a door that locks correctly) and the lovely surroundings and the very very low key breakfast were big plusses. read more

We have just arrived and I am pleased as punch! Charming, small motel. Easy self check in. We even got an email early in the day telling us our room was ready and we could check in at any time. It's immaculate! My parents were motel owners on Cape Cod when I was a teen. This place reminds me of the high standards my folks had. I was a chambermaid through high school and there were always "inspections". Kudos to ownership here. We come here every year for the bluegrass festival and just need one night before we camp at the festival. This will be our annual go to. And I will book 2026 before we leave. read more

The Brittany Motel changed my entire perception of motels. I was on a two-week road trip when I stayed at the Brittany, and for the rest of the trip I kept looking for cute motels to stay at because of how much I loved this one. It's cute beyond belief. The fire pit and chairs and welcoming breakfast space make it feel exceptionally cozy and welcoming. Rooms were very clean. Muffins in the morning and the coffee were dreamy. When I checked out, I left an expensive dental appliance in the room without realizing it. I emailed them almost a day later asking if by any chance the housekeeper, or anyone, found it and they said she had! Which was impressive because it was small and clear and I left it on the bedspread, so it blended in. And they held onto it for me! Then they mailed it to me in Michigan without hesitation. I highly recommend staying at the Brittany! It's not immediately in downtown Manchester, but if you're okay to drive into town (5 min at most), it's worth the stay. read more

"Great little motel in the middle of nowhere" is how I described it to people. I typically stay at places like the Marriott or Hampton Inn but decided (on a whim) to stay here while I explored the area for a few days. Self check in was easy and my room (#9) was very nice! TV and Wifi worked great. Water pressure and temperature was great -- bed was comfortable, etc. There are some Adirondack chairs right outside to relax in. There is also a little lounge that had snacks and DVDs. For breakfast there was coffee and cereal and a few other things -- more than I was really expecting, to be honest! My communication with the owners was all done by text but that was fine with me since I only stayed over one night and then left in the morning. I guess you could say it's a little spooky at night cause you feel like you are in the middle of nowhere, but it was fine and very peaceful. When I checked in I seemed to be the only guest but when I came back to the motel later, there were several cars. I would definitely recommend it! read more

This is our second time staying here and this place is really a find. We first stayed here about a year ago on our honeymoon and the hosts are very kind and accommodating. The rooms are neat and clean, walking outside gives you gorgeous views of the mountains and a cozy outdoor fire pit area. I highly recommend the Brittany motel if you're in the Manchester area. The owners/staff are so kind and thoughtful. They allowed us to do non-contact check -in and were very responsive to any questions we had. I wish I had a better picture of our room, because our room is so cute and has everything you really need. The room and bathroom were clean and have the perfect "modern" / Vermont feel to them. Also, they have a gathering area to where you can get breakfast every morning - they had eggs, fruits, freshly made cinnamon bread (it was so good), and fresh coffee. They also have a bunch of drinks in the fridge and snacks for you to buy, for only $1. There's also games and DVDs as well. Another perk of the Brittany motel is the view... outside our room we had the most beautiful view of Mt. Equinox. Lastly, my bf and I went to ski at bromley, Stratton, and magic mountain. Bromley is 18 min away, Stratton is 35min, and magic mountain is 35 min as well. You're so close to Manchester as well, a 7 min drive. I highly recommend the Brittany motel- the service is unmatched, our room was so comfy and cozy, and affordable. I will definitely be coming back!! They are great! read more

The hosts Tabitha and Joe welcome you in like family. An older style motel, but Tabitha has redecorated the place to make it feel quaint and homey. Our room was VERY clean and had a mini fridge. They also have a "Gathering Place" that serves as a common area with games and shelves full of DVDs. This is also where breakfast is, which was superb! Our morning we had freshly baked banana bread (in addition to choices of fruit, yogurt, granola, oatmeal, hard boiled eggs, coffee, etc). They are located in the town of Manchester, which has lots of good restaurants - Tabitha and Joe will have recommendations ready for you! It's about 30 minutes from Stratton, and was exactly what we needed for our limited ski budget. We'd definitely stay again!! After running out of patience and options to try and reserve a spot at Stratton's base lodge for the busy Presidents' day snowboarding weekend, a convoluted bunch of clicks later i found myself reserving my stay at the Brittany motel. Located about 3 miles south of the quaint little town of Manchester VT, the motel is on the historic route 7A, making for quite a pleasant drive up. No bells and whistles here, just clean rooms and a beautiful view to gaze at and the peace and quiet of the surroundings . The owners Jen and her spouse have been running this place for the last 10 years. They are super nice and can help you with most recommendations for things to do and places to go. They also have a small DVD collection you can borrow from in the unlikely scenario of running out of ideas for things to do. Since the motel doesn't serve breakfast , being close to so many options in Manchester has its perks. This place is a hidden gem for people looking for a budget stay without being grossed out at by shared bathrooms. It's most likely gonna start becoming my pit stop on my travels up north... read more

We needed a room for a pass through in Manchester and didn't want to spend a lot just to rest a bit. There weren't many options so we chose Brittany. It is definitely dated and offers only the basics. If you're over 50 you might find it reminiscent of the road trips you took in your youth. Very clean. Super friendly hosts. In the world of hotel ratings it really is a 3 but I would come back. Other reviewers complained about price but $130 in Manchester is very reasonable. read more

If you find yourself headed to Southwestern Vermont for a few days, I would highly recommend staying at Brittny Motel. Located on 7A, about 2 miles south of the heart of Manchester, this Motel is reasonably priced, very clean and is quite comfortable. Tabatha and Joe are very friendly, and made my wife and I feel very welcome throughout our stay. Each morning, in addition to hardboiled eggs, fresh coffee and a selection of teas or hot chocolate, Tabatha provided all guests with warm coffee cake or muffins that were absolutely delicious! The views of the mountains across the street and behind the motel are amazing. Joe and Tabatha had fantastic suggestions on where to dine, and they downright nailed the restaurants we tried. All of the activities of the Manchester area are very close by. Joe and Tabatha were a wealth of information on things to do, but they also maintain a good collection of books, maps and brochures on local attractions in the Gathering Room. If you are a dog lover, don't forget to ask Joe or Tabatha to meet Jasper, who is as lovable as he is large. We will certainly be back! Our stay was June 22nd through June 26th (2021). Amazing! I have been meaning to write a review for our stay here during our last ski trip to Stratton. All previous reviews were spot on! While we were there last season, our stay was so memorable that I remember like it was just yesterday. Tabitha and Joe were very welcoming from the minute we checked in. We had a long drive in and they had us checked in and suggested several area attractions. The location was perfectly situated to visit the surrounding towns (bakeries, general store, etc). The rooms were clean and decorated simply. Be sure to wake up early to appreciate the breathtaking sun rise views. This sweep spot also has a Gathering Place (a room with seating area, couch, dvds, mini fridge stocked with juice/water/etc) where you can enjoy a complimentary breakfast. Joe made his unbelievable boiled eggs (yes--boiled just right not too runny or overboiled) and Tabitha offered home made banana bread. Breakfast also included a great granola selection and even a fresh brewed cup of coffee. It was just enough before our ski trip. Checkout was easy - dropping off our room key to the office. I highly recommend this motel that truly felt more like a simple inn with the best hosts ever! read more

This was my first time visiting Vermont from SoCal! Yup, I am used to nice weather and high end hotels, but this is exactly what I needed! The Brittany motel has new owners Joe and Tab who are so amazing! It was the perfect getaway and so refreshing to be somewhere cozy, clean and homey. Had to stay in Manchester area but had limited options due to the summer festival/horse show. Pulled into the parking area and from the outside, it looked a bit off. The inn keeper was nice enough but the room was horrible. Moldy smell and dated furniture. Definitely needs updating and charging $150 for one night for such a bad room is not cool. I recently stayed at the Brittany motel for a weekend. I was attending a wedding in Manchester. The owners recently purchased the motel less than a year ago. Upon arriving the owner contacted me in regards to the room I was staying in. I Had nice cold water in the refrigerator the conditioner going and clean rooms. The owners are very nice, very friendly, and very helpful. The rooms are clean, comfortable and just what we needed for the weekend. In the evening they had the fire pit going for us and sat in the most comfortable chairs and we got to meet the other guest of the motel. I would highly recommend staying at the Brittany motel. Most important part is that it is clean and the people who own it Tabatha and Joe are very nice people. read more
