I just wish we could give the Barnstead Inn 6 stars!!! My husband and I stayed for a weekend while we were in town for a wedding. The Inn consists of a historical home built in 1830 and 2 outbuildings- one with guest rooms the other serving as the office, serving/common area and lounge, they also have a little gift area and local recommendations for restaurants and activities posted. We were greeted warmly and all the amenities of the inn were clearly explained. The room was great - renovated and decorated beautifully. The rustic charm and thoughtful designer touches created a really relaxing and cozy space. The room was spotless with comfortable bedding, large oversized shower, and good lighting that helped to make the space perfect. The grounds have a pool (closed due to the season), several gas fire-pit conversation areas, a brick oven pizza restaurant and a pond. They serve breakfast daily and had snacks/coffee/tea/etc available all day. The lounge is well stocked with some great whiskey and they had seasonal drink specials. Our absolutely favorite part of the stay however was meeting and getting to know the inn keepers, Andrea and Pete and family. What started as a quick stop for a drink before turning in, became an evening of stories, laughs and new friends. We simply can not recommend Barnstead Inn enough.....if you choose not to stay here next time you're in Manchester it is your loss! read more

We had a wonderful stay in the Hildene suite for our 32nd wedding anniversary. We stayed three nights and so enjoyed our time. There was a fire each night in the fire pit; we were greeted by both Lucky and King during our stay; the breakfast was wonderful; and you are within blocks (walking distance) of the quaint little Manchester Village Center with cute shops. We were also only 30 minutes from both Vermont Country Stores. We would not hesitate to stay again. What an incredible place and staff! read more

I have been very fortunate to travel extensively. I must say this is the finest place I've ever stayed. It is a magical place. The structures are perfectly restored. The landscaping and stonescaping are so pleasing. The Inn is so beautifully decorated you don't want to leave. The attention to even the smallest detail is remarkable. When we first arrived for check in there was a lot of commotion and construction going on. Parking was a bit of a nightmare at first and my s/o and I looked at one another like "not a way to start our weekend away!" After we checked in and checked out the room we left for a bite to eat while they finished up. When we came back we unloaded our truck and checked out the room thoroughly. The bed was comfy but smaller than we expected (thought it was a king but ended up being a queen - our bad!). Our room also had a daybed too. The bathroom was nice with a double sink. I loved the shampoo/conditioner and soaps. All of which they sell on site. Loved the fireplace (propane) in our room for chilly days. Breakfast was incredible. They were SO accommodating for a vegan diet and that was much appreciated. Lucky will always be by your side especially when food is around. They have pot coffee, a Nespresso machine and iced coffee. Several types of milk/creamer too. Plus teas, cereals and fruits. They have a small shop with all sorts of stuff for sale - blankets, masks, lotions, food etc The cons...the room (A) we stayed in was so noisy. For $250/night I was expecting a bit more. The wine cooler/fridge was so noisy. Every 10 seconds for 10 seconds it would make this whirring noise. Drove me crazy at bedtime. The neighbors, not sure if above or behind were loud. We could hear the shower turn on, run and turn off late at night. We could even hear them sneeze. It wasn't overly clean. The pillows were cute but tons of hair on them. The floors were a bit dusty. On the last day I bent down to check under the bed - dust bunnies and beer cans (not ours as we don't drink). A bit of a turn off. Overall, it's a cute place. Breakfast was delicious. I appreciated it being a small family business. But I personally wouldn't stay again for $500 for a weekend. read more

We headed to Manchester for our first ever trip to Vermont in Fall and stayed at the Barnstead Inn. It is in a great location and in walking distance to the many shops and restaurants in the downtown area. The grounds of the inn are beautiful and well kept with gorgeous mums and other fall flowers and pumpkins that scream fall in Vermont. The bar area is extremely small; only a few tables for 2 and one table for 4. However it has delicious small bites and the bartenders were extremely friendly. The dining area/gathering room is small with only one large table to seat 6; the rest were tables of 2 and we felt we had to get there early in order to accommodate our party of 4. One morning we had to push 2 tables together ourselves from the gathering area in order to fit the 4 of us and the table was more of a side table than dining table. We were a bit crowded but on the plus side the breakfasts were always delicious. I had asked about flavored coffee creamers before we arrived and was assured they had them but were nowhere to be found at either coffee station. After we came back from a day of hiking we had Baileys by the fireplace but unfortunately it was not in working order. Apparently they were changing out the fireplace style and it hadn't arrived yet ; this should have done in the summer months so consequently a disappointment after a chilly fall hike! The king size bed in our room was very comfortable. My complaint was the extremely small bathroom with a fan that could not keep up and a sink drain that took forever to drain. There was no counter space at all so drying my hair and putting on makeup were a challenge. We had an empty mini fridge in the room...a couple of bottles of water inside would have been a nice touch and very much appreciated. Cups of water and coffee were always available at the coffee station downstairs but water in our room would have been nice. Some snacks or homemade cookies of some kind would have been enjoyable in the afternoon but fruit and donuts from breakfast were available. All in all it is a pleasant inn but I do not feel they go that extra mile or pay attention to detail to make you feel welcome or special the way some other inns have done that we have stayed in previously. However, The two dogs that live on the property, King and Lucky, are truly a treat! read more

Went to sit outside for brick oven pizzas after tubing the Battenkill all day. Our waitress was definitely struggling to keep up with orders and some orders were lost in the shuffle. The environment is top notch with plenty of pretty flowers around and a few cool dogs. The pizza was tasty but small and expensive. The waitresses were in such a frenzy it was nearly impossible to ask for things like extra napkins, drinks, dressings, etc. kind of a bummer going out somewhere and getting a 200$ bill and not being able to request a dressing for pizza crust. I was told to grade the staff on a curve because the brick oven pizza special is one night a week and the staff arent really waitstaff? I dunno all i do know is the service was below standard, the pizza was small but the prices are all way above average. There were no bathrooms around to use either!!! The menu was limited offering only 2 diff cocktails. Again this was over 200$ for this experience. There was such little value for my dollar here. Never again unless im forced by others. read more

Andrea, her family and staff could not have been nicer. We checked in on a Thursday and we're lucky enough to have the place to ourselves for a night to grab drinks and hang out in the lounge area by the fire. We booked through booking.com (would recommend booking direct for cheaper rates) and a fixed breakfast was included. They were accommodating for our dairy free needs. When more guests arrived, they spread out guests into the bar area or you could take a plate to your room. They have a list of local recommendations for dining and also have a menu available for dinner. The fire pit was going each night and they have s'mores available as well as locally sourced gifts. It's about 20 minutes from bromley and 45 minutes to okemo where we went skiing For covid, they have hand sanitizers everywhere and enforce masks for all indoor areas. We didnt encounter any guests on our way to our room. They followed Vermont guidelines and checked with us in advance to make sure we were following out of state protocols. Overall you can adjust where you eat and hang out based on your comfort level. Looking forward to coming back! read more

Megan and her sister and other family members are so engaged with making sure you enjoy yourself that it's one of the best experiences we've ever had at an inn. We just stayed in the Battenkill River Suite, which has a separate living area with a couch and fireplace. Bathroom had a Rain shower head! last night we sat outside at one of their wood burning fire pits and Adirondack chairs and it was so relaxing. This is the 2nd time we stayed here and love it so much! The Innkeepers are so nice and the blueberry pancakes for breakfast were delicious. Their dogs Lucky and King were so sweet and adorable. This will definitely be our Annual place to stay. It was modern but in a cozy Farmhouse way. read more

Remodeled and rebranded the Barnstead Inn, this is a gem in Manchester. Andrea, Peter and their family are incredible hosts at this dog- friendly spot walking distance from downtown. We just returned home from a stay, and could not be happier! We stayed in the Battenkill Suite, and it did not disappoint! It was so cozy, the bed was the most comfortable bed we've stayed in, and the shower was fantastic. The gas fireplace was so nice to have on. The breakfast at the Inn was top notch; so delicious! We had a fantastic stay at The Barnstead Inn. I kinda stumbled upon The Barnstead and glad that I did. Andrea and Pete (and King!) were great hosts with the unique ability to chat about their inn and the area and without overwhelming you. The accommodations, we stayed in The Hildene Suite, were spectacular: a very cozy king bed, an in-room soaking tub (next to the fireplace), and an awesome two person shower. This place has to be the best place to stay in Manchester. Andrea the owner helped me not only with my Booking, but answered all my questions regarding best place to fly into ( Albany NY) and suggestions for other places to stay ( Stowe, VT) on our first New England vacation. The food was absolutely fresh and delicious. A very big perk is having the tavern to get dinner or small bites and drinks from each night. After sightseeing all day, staying in, relaxing by the fire pits, meeting other travelers and enjoying the inn and food turned out to be something to look forward to each night. Not to mention, during peak season it is near impossible to get dinner reservations in town but not to worry, this is just as good! Pizza pop up night was a highlight too so don't skip that if one is offered during your stay. 2 blocks from shops and restaurants downtown. Rooms are rustic and comfortable, private and nice views. Dark shades kept the room dark. You can hear the cars on the street in the morning but it wouldn't stop me from staying here every time. read more

We were a couple Vermonters looking for a change of scenery. We just had a wonderful weekend at this beautiful inn. The room was updated, comfortable and clean. The staff was so friendly and accommodating. The s'more kits they have available really made for an amazing night after coming back from dinner. The location is very close to downtown but feels much more rural, note the pond out back. The toiletries they have in the rooms were amazing so I was happy to see they sell them in the office. And we cant forget Lucky the dog, who was absolutely adorable and will be your best friend, especially if you're eating the delicious breakfast that comes with your room! (seriously delicious, i mean, the syrup was warmed). The thoughtfulness and care that went into all the little details were noticed and so appreciated. All the staff and patrons wore masks in communal areas and there was hand sanitizer available. We will be staying again. Soon. read more

By far one of the best experiences we've had staying in VT. This will be our go to place for now on. First off, Andrea and Pete are amazing hosts. They make you feel right at home from the minute you arrive. Plus their two dogs, Lucky and Cider, are an added bonus of cuteness! You want to talk about warm and cozy? Well that's the Barnstead Inn! Our room was perfect and really was a home away from home. The bed was comfortable and not your average "hotel" bed. Breakfast was unreal! Something different and delicious everyday before heading to the mountain. Finally, the highlight of our trip was hanging out at the most chill bar drinking their signature drinks, making s'mores and some amazing family memories. Really loved everything about this place. The Main Inn House is newly refurbished- gorgeous living area with tables for breakfast (which was delicious.)...you can find coffee, tea, water, and snacks here throughout the day. There is a bar area (byob for now) to sit in and listen to music and play games. Outside there are plenty of places to sit and relax, a heated pool, and a shack with a pizza oven! (We missed the pizza as we had dinner reservations, but it looked delicious!) Our room was in the other house and was perfect for what we needed. It was adorable and very clean. We heard that that house of rooms would be refurbished in the future, but to be honest, i don't see anything wrong with the rooms now! Adorable! If I had to be picky, the pillows on our bed the first day were flatter than we're used to, but we asked if they had anything fluffier the next day and they did! (Also, a note to ourselves to bring our home pillows on road trips from now on, just in case.) the shower water pressure was amazing and the room did have a tiny mini fridge, which came in handy for beers and wine to drink outside/in the bar area. Everyone we met that worked there in any capacity was super friendly and very accommodating. The location is perfect- walkable to many shops/places to eat and if you don't mind a nice stroll (like 35 minutes) you can easily get to much more and the furthest end of the town. The property itself is stunning and immaculate, and you can tell that a lot of thought, care and love went into the renovation. Very cute inn. Would stay there again as they were super friendly and accommodating. Room was small, bed was comfortable and the TV didn't get great reception. Super close to the outlets and a reasonable ride to Stratton. I was in town with my girlfriend for the Vermont Challenge and they had offered a nice storage spot for my bikes which was very kind. Ultimately I would recommend this inn. Expensive, but the area is quite expensive on its own so the price is well in line for the area. read more

My husband and I LOVE the Barnstead Inn! We have stayed there six times in the past 5 months. Each room has quintessential Vermont charm and character (many newly renovated), very comfortable beds and linens, soft towels, Dorset Daughter bath goods (which are amazing!), and little refrigerators. The fire pits are a great place to hang out in this CoVid crazy time, with a drink from the full bar. In the morning, a delicious homemade breakfast is served - we've been treated to scrambled and poached eggs, french toast, corned beef hash (the best ever!), pancakes and cottage cakes, all with local breads, bacon and fruit. Of course you can opt for cereal (but why?) and enjoy their fresh brewed coffee ! The Innkeepers and their staff couldn't be more accommodating, friendly, hospitable, or talented at running a boutique inn. If I had 10 stars they would deserve them! read more

We just spent a long weekend at the Barnstead Inn.... it was wonderful! Beautiful outdoor space, very clean, easy one block walk into town. The common area is spacious and really cozy to hang out in. The rooms are clean and comfortable. Walking distance to Manchester. And I Love that there is a church acrossed the street.
