Such an adorable inn in the Manchester area. I ended up booking this place bc the hotel my friends were staying in was like $800 a night versus the $200 something here. Honestly, this place was waaaay nicer too, in my opinion. My room was large, even if somewhat outdated, but God, the view of the forest from the room's large windows was unbelievable. I was mesmerized watching the falling leaves from the trees. There was a lounge area on the first floor with a coffee bar, seating, games, etc. I wish the fireplace was going, but my girlfriends and I split a bottle of wine and hung out for a few hours. Beware: BED BUGS. Our stay in this motel was by far the worst experience I've ever had in my life at any type of lodging. I stayed at Toll Road Inn for 2 nights in early October. On the morning before checkout, I noticed bites on my arm, and quickly discovered that in fact my whole body was covered in 100+ bed bug bites, including bites on my face. Prior to this, I'd noticed a bug crawling on the pillow of one of the two beds in the room on our first night. There is no doubt in my mind that there is a serious infestation, at the very least in the room that we stayed in (107). The worst part of the experience was when went over to the front desk to report the issue - we were met with INCREDIBLE hostility unlike anything I'd ever experienced. The owners yelled and berated us for about 10 minutes claiming we were making it up; when I showed them the bites, they told me I "probably has some problem". They claimed to have never had bed bugs before, therefore it was impossible to have them now, which is truly an illogical and bizarre statement. We realized it was futile to reason with the owners and decided to get out of the situation and the motel ASAP. The hostility ruined most of our morning and I've had trouble sleeping on several nights since then, due to fear and worry. I've had to wash all of my belongings multiple times in high heat. I confirmed with a dermatologist that my 100+ bites were bed bug bites. Last but not least, they advertise "Wireless Internet" on a big sign outside the motel - I presume this was some weird joke, as the internet is utterly unusable due to nonexistent speed. Absolutely do not recommend staying here if you care about your mental and physical well-being. read more

Delightful new owners... who graciously waited up for our late, delayed arrival. The rooms were fresh, beds were very comfortable and the linens were soft & fluffy. The open windows gave us the sound of the stream, an occasional distant train and all the smells the Vermont woods have to offer up. We liked the campy touches they have kept (light fixtures), which help unite the unique construction. All rooms face the ridge line and wide windows provide a generous view. Appreciate the full bathroom and a second sink with wide countertop space outside the bathroom. Complimentary bottled water and several great VT snacks were appreciated. Best night's sleep in an inn/hotel/motel for years. Yep... that good. read more

This little place is the perfect (and cheaper alternative) accommodation for skiing at Bromely or Stratton. Located in Manchester it's close to a lot of great restaurants, like The Perfect Wife (literally right next door). The room itself was big with two double beds and a nice view of the stream out back. The room also had a sink in and outside of the bathroom which was very practical, if someone is showering you can still wash up, brush teeth, etc. The included breakfast was pretty basic: breads, bagels, cereal, oatmeal, coffee that kinda set up. If you want a more hearty meal for a day of skiing Bobs Diner is right across the street. Overall our stay was really enjoyable. read more

This place is so cozy and relaxing. Entering the hotel might be a miss as it looks very private and covered by beautiful greenery. The family owned owners are so sweet and friendly. The back side of the hotel has a beautiful stream and you can bring chairs and just sit there. There is a beautiful built in pool that is covered for the fall. The indoor fire place room is currently closed during the pandemic. The room is very cozy with comfortable beds and pillows. Theres a large bathroom, there is no kitchen but with a small fridge. The internet seems to crash and not work sporadically and covid regulations and handled very well. Love this place highly recommend. read more

We stayed here for one night and really wish we had time to spend a few more. The women who owns the place, along with her husband, was very gracious. The grounds out back were beautiful. At this time of the year we could sleep with the windows open and the sounds from the nearby creek were very soothing. The king room, 201, that we had was very clean and spacious. The bathroom was updated and very nice. We are now in a far more expensive place in Essex, By that doesn't have the additional sink outside the bathroom that the Toll road has. While there, try Zoeys which is right down the road near Rt 7. The Inn also hooked us up with half price tickets for Hildene. To sum up, a wonderful place with wonderful owners. read more

Decor is a bit dated but I suspect that's common in the motel/B&B model in this area. Great location for sightseeing. Okay, first of all, let me address the people who say that the decor is "outdated". If you are the type of person who has to buy new shoes every nine months, not because they are worn out, but because they have become "outdated", then you may agree with these reviews. If you, however, are a bit more objective than that, and have less than 75 pairs of shoes, then you won't. I tried, but was unable, to find anything in a state of disrepair in my room. The rooms are HUGE! And, they overlook a beautiful babbling brook and nicely kept back yard with a killah (I'm from MA) Vermont mountain behind it! They have many pairs of Adirondack chairs strategically placed out there as well, to experience this up close, which wasn't for me, because my view from my room was good enough, and in here I have TV! Furthermore, the windows open wide; you fresh air lovers will love this feature. Please realize that this is an Inn, not a hotel, so there is not a 24 hour desk clerk. They do everything themselves, including the maid's work. This is how they keep the prices low, and the quality high. I am not a paid shill, but I may have had a couple of glasses of wine while I wrote this in my room, which is marvelous, just in case I did not mention that yet. read more

This hotel is a gem. The rooms & bathroom are SPOTLESS! If you care about cleanliness, this is the best I've ever seen. Also, the bedroom is HUGE with great privacy, and is quiet. The beds are the MOST COMFORTABLE we've slept in, and the pillows are perfect. Not too hard, tall or soft. Big closet for clothes, portable luggage rack, and an area by the door for ski bags, and jackets. There is a large full bathroom with a 6' long tub - had restorative soaks after days on the slopes - and there is an extra sink outside the bathroom which is super helpful. The spacious fridge in the room was PERFECT for breakfast stuff and take-out leftovers, and the microwave in atrium was perfect to heat stuff up. the atrium has a VERY COOL 360 degree fireplace, and 24 hour coffee/hot chocolate bar - perfect for when we got back from skiing. Ice machine in lobby easily accessible, and the little goodies the owners leave in the room upon arrival are so THOUGHTFUL & YUMMY. And the hot tub is HEAVEN! Pool looks GREAT for summer fun. The owners are SUPER friendly, helpful, professional, and accommodating. Right across from Bob's Diner, & easy drive to Bromley Mountain, Magic Mountain & other slopes. In the opposite direction, it's close to cute villages of Manchester & Arlington for fun shopping and lots of cool restaurants. Can't RAVE enough about this gem of a hotel. Many of the reviews here are from the summer/fall, so perhaps it's just a better time to stay at the Toll Road Inn. We recently stayed, middle of winter, to help put things in perspective. I feel obligated to paint a real picture so there aren't as many surprises as we had, should you choose to stay here. Pros: Centrally located between the mountains and downtown Manchester. Perfect for a ski weekend. Reasonably priced for the area...about $200/nt during a busy winter weekend. Again, this is reasonable for the area. There is a hot tub, more about that later. The innkeepers are very friendly, but can be a little overwhelming. The rooms, although dated (think Bad Times at the El Royale) as most have stated, are in decent shape and clean. Cons: Walls are thin. We spent each night listening to conversations and the tv in the room next to us. The rooms also smell like wet dogs. But they do spray lysol down the hallways in the mornings, so you get the bowling alley shoe effect thereafter. The hot tub...what do many want to do after a long day on the slopes and maybe a little apres? Hit the hot tub. Only thing is, they keep this one locked and you have to call them when you want to use it. I don't mean call and say "we plan on going down there in 10 minutes once we have our swimsuits on" because they want to know exactly when you are going down there to show you how to use it (one button "jets"), ramble off a list of rules, and make you leave your clothes and any drinks you had inside. That brings me to the real killer here...the rules. There are literally a dozen notes taped up throughout the place with rules. "Don't put firewood in the fireplace, no food or drinks in the hot tub, don't bring food or drinks to your room (seriously?), don't park your car with the exhaust facing plants, lounge area closes at 930." And although the owners are nice and friendly, they are hawking all over the place to enforce these rules. Lastly, the "continental breakfast" is frozen mini bagels, moldy clementines, and stale milk. So don't factor breakfast into the cost/benefit equation. In summary, if you are looking for a simple/(relatively)cheap/clean spot to rest at night, and if you don't mind tip toeing like you're 13 again and sneaking around your grandparents house, then Toll Road Inn probably would fit the bill. But don't plan around the stated amenities of the place. We didn't leave bitter about the experience, but certainly made note not to stay again and thought we should help set the expectation for future travelers. read more

We just adored this place! If you have never had the joy of staying at a family-owned motel before, then you're in for a treat. The rooms were tidy and neat, the beds were comfy, the backyard is a sweet retreat and the continental breakfast (free!) was such a convenience. The proprietors couldn't be any nicer and oversaw everything on the property. We also really thank this place for being one of the only places in the area willing to accommodate a one-night reservation during peak leaf time! We would love to come back and stay here again when we have more time. read more

VERY PLEASED WITH THIS INN! My family and I stayed here for a night during the autumn season and we fell in love with this beautiful cozy inn. the owner was very welcoming and walked us all the way to our room with a warm smile. as soon as we stepped foot into our room a smile crept across our faces. the room was elegantly decorated and had a cozy feel that made you want to curl up with a nice book and never leave. but another wonder awaited us. outside our room there was a stream that flowed through the maroon and lemon coloured leaves. there were a few chairs tossed near the stream, just awaiting you. also there was an outdoor pool for its summer visitors and a jacuzzi as well. the rooms were very clean and everything was just right. the breakfast was your classic continental breakfast however the decoration in this room was everything but classic. it was decorated with cute trinkets and vintage pictures creating a warm atmosphere. all in all we really enjoyed staying here and would definitely recommend it for a nice, calming getaway. read more

Cute little motor lodge type place. The room is clean and comfortable but the decor is dated. Like walking into the 70's. However the staff is friendly and the grounds beautiful. Lovely brook to sit by and the pool is nice. Felt like I was hanging out in someone's backyard than a hotel. Very close to tons of shopping and places to eat. The advertising really doesn't due this Inn justice. The place is very cozy. The decor is a bit dated but it is very clean and includes everything to make it's guests comfortable we had a room with King bed which was comfortable with 4 pillows and an extra blanket in the closet. (I am always cold in hotel rooms so the blanket made me happy. The breakfast included was basic continental with muffins bagels, toast, cereal, coffee, juice etc. and is served in a rustic great room with a beautiful fireplace. We met one of the owners who went way beyond to help and be friendly to all of the guests, while keeping everything as neat as a pin. So much nicer then you would ever find in a chain type establishment. A great place to stay! read more

Average place. For those saying the rooms where dated the rooms where in fact recently renovated. Service could of been better. Owners had 100 rules that you had to follow. Upon check in when I asked for the hotels location I was told google it how is that good service? Upon check in the person acted like I was keeping him up and was mad about the card I paid with. After check in instead of being able to walk through the hall to my second floor room I was sent out across the parking lot and through a door that led to a hallway that was dark and up the stairs to another dark hallway. The owner showed me the room and first words he said you have to be quiet it's past 10. The next morning breakfast didn't start till 730 which is not convenient for those that ski and want to be on the mountain first thing. While eating breakfast I was approached by the owner about room payment that my card had a problem. During breakfast when you are eating isn't the time to do that. After a day on the slopes the hot tub looked nice but it was locked. Before you use the hot tub you had to be set to go in in your swim gear etc before they would open. After he opened it you had to hear the 10 do nots and stuff from the guy. After you where done he expected you to cover it again. Checkout process left something to be desired as no desk person was on and I had to walk around looking for the owner. Long story short rooms where nice way to many rules and helicopter owners who hover over their paying guests monitoring every sound and move. Would I stay there again probably not. read more

Stayed two nights here and found it to be very comfortable and peaceful. Spacious room with a mini fridge. Nice hot tub and pool. The adirondack chairs stream side were the perfect place to relax and unwind. Retro feel to the whole Inn, but very clean and well maintained. Priced reasonably in an area where just about everything is too expensive. Agree with the first reviewer about the thin walls, enough to hear muffled conversation, but not a big deal. Continental breakfast would have been better with some fresh fruit. Coffee was great though! read more

Older style motel on Rt.30 between Bromley Mountain and Manchester, VT. Very clean rooms and friendly owners. The upstairs rooms were spacious and the grounds/pool were very nice. Beautiful stream in the back and mountain ridge views. My only complaints are that the room smelled a bit musty and that there isn't much at the continental breakfast. But the location and value are good (you can walk to a decent diner across the street). We would stay here again when visiting the area. read more

This was our third stay there, so we knew that the rooms were dated, the grounds are pretty, the breakfast is lame, the pool is freezing but it's a great location for us. What we didn't expect was the owners to tell us to keep our kids quiet when we checked in, when they hadn't been anything other than angels and we hadn't even left the front desk yet. It made us spend our time there stressed about every noise they made. Our room was extremely musty, we tried to air it out best we could but I still spent the night coughing and sneezing from an allergy attack. Then when we were getting ready to leave we packed up and decided to take the kids for a quick swim in the pool before a long car ride. Both owners came out a half hour before check out to rudely tell us that check out was at 11:00. We were in the car, keys at the front desk before 10:55. We have never felt so unwelcome staying somewhere before, and we are shocked that the inn owners would treat guests, let alone returning guests, so inhospitably. Their rudeness was completely unjustified, but I have read other reviews of guests feeling harassed by the owners. There are plenty of places to stay in Manchester that have better accommodations and know how to treat their guests. read more

We stayed there for only one night. The manager was pleasant and polite and helpful. She personally showed us to our room and explained where things were and how breakfast worked in the morning. It was a continental breakfast and I very rarely care about the quality of these. If I did this review would not be getting the 5 stars I have given it. The orange juice was Tang! Seriously. Tang! Good for a 4 year old. Not a 40 plus dude. I won't go into detail regarding the rest of the morning fare. It was pitiful. Regardless. Let's not let this paltry issue overshadow how fantastic this place was. It is set on a picturesque plot of land with a quaint babbling brook flowing through. Set at the foot of some majestic hills covered with multi colored trees the scene was something out of a fantasy novel. I would say they need to fix their shower. The curtain touches your body as you try to clean. Very uncomfortable feeling. My partner wonders why I gave this business 5 stars with all this negative review. In all, my experience here was perfect for my tastes and I only mention these small nuisances so people coming can be prepared for these situations in case it is something they might not want to experience. VERY disappointed with Toll Road Inn. After researching hotels in the area, my friends and I selected this hotel based upon the 4 star ratings they had received from multiple sites. We had planned for a welcoming experience while meeting up with our friends hiking the AT. Unfortunately, we experienced anything but. The manager/owner angrily came yelling at our group as we entered the room. He screamed that he did not like hikers, as they were too "stinky". His unfriendly and unjust rant made us all feel threatened and unwelcome. Our 2 hiking friends were only visiting for the afternoon and wanted brief relief from their difficult journey. This man turned their relaxation into a horrific nightmare. I am not sure if it is legal to discriminate against someone for being a "stinky hiker", however if that is your "policy", as an owner and human being, I suggest you find a more kind way of making this known prior to check-in of your tired guests. read more
