On the date that we went the air conditioner was broken and it was miserable being in there for even ten minutes. I felt sorry for all of the employees who had to work through that unbearable heat. Like many, I travel to the Crest every summer for a week with my family and for the rest of the year we all talk about the Britton's donuts. We all have our favorites but honestly we all agree that they are the best donuts we have known. Yes, the line is long and difficult on hot summer mornings and for reasons to unbeknownst to most of us, the shop refuses to install air-conditioning on the inside, and they only take cash, but it is still worth the effort for the deliciousness inside. i made my family get up early to wait on line at this bakery just to judge reagan's opinion of apple fritters. jk jk but still it was definitely on my mind. the reviews are accurate. you will wait. the week before labor day on a wednesday morning we arrived around 7:30am and still had about a 30 minute wait until we were out the door with our precious box. we got a few fritters, the cinnamon roll, and a few donuts. here is how we rated everything: donuts: 8.5/10 ; fresh and airy, perfect frosting and filling. delicious. fritters: 6/10 ; they were fried too hard for my liking which gave them a semi-crunchy exterior. not enough apple filling but i can definitely see why they are popular even if they are not my cup of tea. inside was chewy with nice ribbons of cinnamon. cinnamon roll: 10/10 ; i would walk through broken glass to eat this for breakfast. i think we got more of the coffee roll style cinnamon roll because it was basically like a yeast donut dough but it was perfectly cinnamoned (word?), light, and sugary from the glaze. i'm clearly still dreaming about it. its not like a chewy buttery cinnabun at all. amazinggg. overall, would i wait again? yes, but send one adult early in the morning to bring them back. leave the family behind since this place is all business. read more

We went to Brittons both days we were in WW! Go early as there can be a line. Not too hard to find on the street parking right near by. There are a lot of choices! The apple fritters were crisp fried on the outside with lots of apple chunks and sweet sugary goo! The crumb cake was a little thin for a NY style crumb cake, but moist and with good flavor (more crumbs please!) My husband loved the chocolate croissant pastry. For one, he did not complain about a lack of chocolate!! I found the coffee lacking in flavor; a little weak, even the darker roast choice. Service was friendly and the line moved fast. First visit here. At 7:15am, as you drive along Pacific, there are just a few souls out and about. But as you near Britton's Gourmet Bakery the street becomes alive. We arrived at 7:15am to a line half way down the block from Britton's. And a glorious smell wafted down the block. It took us about40 minutes to entry the bakery, where we found 5 or 6 workers energetically filling customer orders. We went right for the home run - a box full of apple fritters and a chocolate glazed donut for the road. They were delicious, sweet, gooey, and filling. This won't be the last time for us. Locals and savvy vacationers know to get here before 8 AM during the summer or you're not going to get what you want. In fact you may not get anything because when they sell out they close. It happened to me a few summers ago until I learned my lesson that some people lined up at 6:30- 7 o'clock in the morning. I take my chances at 8 o'clock but if I'm in the mood for a traditional white cream filled donut I get in line before 7 AM. They are creme doughnuts like the ones you had growing up in the 60s and 70s. Filled. Their corn fritters are to die for. Their sticky buns are very good. They are so good that I told the owner a couple of summers ago that she can't close until I die. LOL. read more

Nothing fancy here to see guys, just simple donuts and coffee like the good ol' days- do not ask for a triple vent half-calf 2 pump soy latte because they will look at your like you grew 10 heads. First time we visited years ago, I was not in love with the service nor some of the pastries. Labor Day (or maybe any weekend in the summer) was a madhouse here- Line wrapped around the block at all times. Apple Fritters? Worth it for sure. Other things BGB does well: double cream donut, coffee cake and their donuts. Things I didn't love: cinnamon roll (tasted more like a dry cinnamon cake donut), sfogliatelle, and their coffee (was super watered down). Affordable, fast, and cash only. Stopped by on a Saturday morning while on vacation based on recommendations from locals. We arrived about five minutes after they opened thinking we could beat their infamous lines. Nope! The line was already out the door and a block long. They only take cash, so be prepared. There is an ATM inside though. Only 3 allowed with masks for COVID19. I ordered a bit of everything. My favorite is their old fashioned donuts- only a buck each. You can taste the freshness honestly, light and airy goodness. They have all kind of treats from sticky buns, apple fritters, bagels, danishes, muffins, donuts, coffee cakes and coffee. No hot chocolate though. Do yourself a favor and walk there! The parking is tight and well, after eating these calorie dense blobs of dough and sugar, you may even out nutritionally. I had a serious sugar rush followed by an immediate crash requiring a nap. Tried the apple fritter at Britton's Gourmet Bakery this morning to cap off a week in Wildwood. Usually there would be photographic evidence but it was so exquisite, I ate it far too fast. Texture is exceptional, just enough apple, glazed with heavenly sugar. I don't even have a sweet tooth and I'm singing it's praises. My advice, order a few more than you think you'll need.
