I came here for an event, and the venue was set up beautifully. I can totally see why so many people choose to get married here. The customer service was excellent. The servers that brought out hors d'oeuvres were very friendly, professional, and attentive. The bartender was great as well. She worked efficiently and also checked that my drink was to my liking and even offered to add more simple syrup if needed it. I throughly enjoyed both of my mocktails; blush hour and another drink that isn't normally on their menu that had ginger. My favorite hors d'oeuvre was hands down the scallop. It was perfectly cooked and seasoned. We were offered a 5 course meal, thai soup was amazing. It had a kick to it thay clung to your throat but kept you wanting to coming back for more Chicken and waffles was too battered and salty for me, although I liked the pickled purple cabbage that came with it. The sorbet oalate cleansers was refreshing I had asked for my steak to come really rare and found it to be a bit overcooked. The texture seemed slightly different too. I would have enjoyed this more if there was a bit more sauce. Thr mashed potatoes were delicious and so were the Brussel sprouts and garlic carrots. Dessert was chocolate mint pot de creme. We came for a special birthday celebration, just the two of us. The food was fabulous and represented all the reasons to dine out. My wife had the Duck Breast and declared it exceptional. I should also note she has a gluten allergy and they made sure her meal was prepared accordingly. I had the t-bone pork chop. Now, forget about the thin piece of pork you grandmother fried until it was shoe leather. This was a big, thick piece of expertly brined, sous vide and then grilled pork. I want here with my partner earlier this month for his birthday. I specifically chosen this location for its courtyard aesthetic. I did reserve for a location at the courtyard ahead of time and put in a mention about celebrating my partner birthday. When we got there we got seated at the beautiful courtyard and was presented a little birthday card. Which was very sweet. The price of the food was quite affordable compared to the other fancy restaurant around. We got the salmon dish, a chef special rockfish dish, Canadian prime tartar and lastly a chocolate pudding dessert. All of the dishes tasted amazing, the cod itself was a bit under seasoning. We were seated outside near a heater so the Canadian cold was kept at bay. We started the meal with a bottle of wine which the manager brought over and poured. We decided to order off the pre fix menu and share the food between the two of us. We added the poutine and mushroom risotto. Everything we ate was amazing, but the buttermilk friend chicken was by far the best. The salad was plan but tasty. The dessert course was the weakest of the three. I love love love loveeee the outside atmosphere of this place! The courtyard is a magical place for date night with the vines on the brick walls and the romantic chandelier lighting. The servers are phenomenal and have recommendations that are beyond your expectations; I can promise you that. The food is so delicious and have so many different items for palates and flavour profiles of all kinds but truly the magic of this place comes from the courtyard vibes. The chicken liver parfait is smooth and creamy whereas the scallop crudo is refreshing with the citrusy notes. I always go for the duck breast when I see it in a menu and they cooked it a perfect medium rare for myself. It's a bit different with Caribbean flavours instead of classic French ones but delicious nonetheless. I also veer towards creme brûlée but once again the flavours are international with Vietnamese tones. It's a truly unique menu with worldly flavours and tastes. On a suggestion, my friend and I came to Brix & Mortar on my last night in Vancouver. When I saw Fried Green Tomatoes and Cheese Grits on the menu, I knew we were in for a treat! I'm from Louisiana and when I told the waiter, he said the head chef came to New Orleans regularly for the food. We ordered lobster corn dogs and the chicken liver parfait to start. Both were spot on perfect. The spicy aioli made the corn dogs sing, and the candied pickled Jalapeños on the patè kicked serious butt! Entrees of salmon and ling cod were exceptional! And my ling came topped with a sausage/tomato/olive concoction that made the dish heavenly! And it was served with cheese grits! We finished with a sorbet with raspberries and whipped coconut cream that melted my heart and satisfied my soul. We got to visit with the Chef de Cuisine, Chris after he heard I was from Louisiana. He sat with us and compared our best meals in New Orleans. I promised to take he and his wife on a gas station food trip when they come down in January. If you don't know, Louisiana corner convenience stores have food that will make you throw rocks at Michelin stars!! No joke. As a special treat, Chef personally brought us his homemade pimento cheese topped with chow-chow. I wept! It was the best chow-chow (pickled relish) I've ever tasted and I'm 71 years old! Run, don't walk, to Brix & Mortar. The ambience, live music, wine list and food were exceptional. I'm a pretty good home cook, but I'd shove my feet under Chef Chris' table any day!! They also have ample seating and patio space. The washroom is located in a strange spot but that's fine as well. In terms of food, my friend and I tried the fish on chip ($10), tofu kaarage ($10) and the albacore tuna negitiro ($10). Everything was tasty. Booking online and booking through the phone was easy but when I confirm my booking the week before they told me I might not get the court yard which was upsetting when I booked a month earlier. Pro tip: you should call to check if the upper lounge is available for your date and time if that is a priority for you. Me and my partner came here on a Wednesday eve. The restaurant had a good vibe it was relaxing and I would say about half full. We was greeted by the front of house lady who was extremely nice! We sat upstairs in the sort of rooftop terrace but there was a closed roof and heaters all around. Have a little gust of wind every now and then stopped it from getting to warm. Food was delicious. Of the few restaurants I've been to since they were allowed to reopen, this is one that has taken safety to heart while still providing a great dining atmosphere! We sat in the courtyard where all the tables were spaced out and clear line of sight to exit and entryways. We were kindly directed to the online menu from their website (as many restaurants are going "menuless" now) but also provided some options from the bar to set the tone for the meal. Cutlery and dishes were distributed in a pass-it-down fashion and was explained it was to reduce contact. She kept apologizing for not being able to refill our glasses herself, but provided filled carafes frequently. The meal itself was delicious as would be expected from a restaurant that changed my mind about pork chops a few years back. I had dined at Brix & Mortar several years ago during Dine Out Vancouver and I feel fortunate to revisit the restaurant with my parents for the Taste of Yaletown. I wasn't sure what to expect as it had been so many years since I was last there (and that time I dined on the back patio) but it was a great experience from start to finish. If I had one complaint, it would have be the steep prices for street parking in Yaletown. Booking was easy and we were given clear instructions about which entrance to use, safety protocols for COVID, etc. Tables inside were spaced apart (you could tell they were more sparse than normal), all staff wore masks, and we were given our own water jugs and glasses. Our waiter was bubbly and friendly, and was eager to answer questions. We were early so halfway through our dinner a larger party came for a birthday celebration. The employees reminded them about the rules (i.e. no swapping seats) to which the group obeyed. For the appetizer, I chose the KLIPPER'S ORGANIC SQUASH SOUP. Crème fraiche, microgreen garnish according to the menu. To me, the soup was an interesting mix of spicy/peppery and a hint of what had tasted like maple sweet. A good complement if you want to warm up on a nippy evening. Entrée was the YAKIMA VALLEY LAMB SHANK. As per the menu: aged cheddar corn grits, grilled broccolini, natural pan jus. To me, a delicious dish with a lamb shank and the meat falling off the bone and no gamey taste! I joked that my lamb shank seemed slightly smaller than my parents'. With that said, the rich cheddar and corn grits had me filled by the end, and ready for dessert. Dessert was LEMON PANNA COTTA. Roasted pineapple with fruit pearls & torn mint. The desserts arrived in cute uniform mason jars (which I would have purchased if I had spare room in my cupboards). A hint of fruit, slight sweetness and perfectly chilled. Yummy! read more

Their patio is more or less making it our default dining room for friends and colleagues these days. It is well spaced, not too tightly closed up so there's plenty of ventilation, and the heater is robust. The service has been great every visit (I think we've been there now 5 times in the 2 months since we've moved into the area), and their happy hour drinks and food is fantastic value. We went again last night and had a fantastic time. The bartender brought out wines for us to consider based on our previous orders (happy hour gets you 30% off bottles under $150). The cocktails he made were FANTASTIC. Honestly the best I've had there yet, and certainly the best I've had in quite a while. Our server was also fabulous and friendly and just made the evening so much better! Now for the food: I have to apologize, I only have two photos because I keep forgetting to take pictures! They seem to tweak their menu often, so I wouldn't expect the same items to be there when you go, but hope it will give you some idea what to expect. Carbonara: last night's version was stupendously delicious. One of the most tasty pastas I've had in quite a while. The previous carbonara in August (with peas) was less successful. Ragu: the version I had two weeks ago with spaghettini was good, but nothing memorable. But my husband's version last night (with paparadelle) was much, much better. Grilled broccolini: excellent every time - nicely seasoned and with a smokey char, and retaining that great crunch. Prawn tartar on the happy hour menu: it is a generous serving for $10. That said, I would say it's not their most successful dish - I'd say it's ok, but I probably won't have it again until maybe they re-jig it. The taro chips are nice. Their crispy pork belly: OMG, it is ridiculously good and it is a great deal for $10 at happy hour. It comes with a nice pickled daikon and pineapple, with a zippy Vietnamese-style vinaigrette. I think I've ordered it now almost every visit. Last night I ordered two, because I didn't want to share!! Their current iteration of the steak tartare that I had two weeks ago was not to my liking - it was with an Asian twist, but too much goopy sauce for my taste. However, my friend loved it and wolfed it down and raved about how delicious it was. Their latest chicken dish is quite nice. Juicy and moist, good flavour. Their scallop appie with a fried rice side is delicious and a fair amount of food. Focaccia bread with hummus: well, I've now had two different friends that ordered it, and both times my husband and I thought it was not very good. But our friends ate it heartily, so I guess it's just personal preference. Blistered shishito peppers: it was excellent last night We've had a few other dishes but I don't remember them well enough to write about them. Anyway, overall, a really fantastic experience every time. It seems to fill up (COVID safe), so definitely make a reservation. They also do takeout! read more

Swanky and classy! This was the perfect spot to enjoy a drink and a light bite at the bar while waiting to meet some of my wonderful colleagues. Happy hour is solid and they had a variety of small bites and drinks on special. I didn't want to fill up, but I just couldn't resist ordering something small because of how amazing the menu looked. I went with a piece of toast topped with pimento spread, grilled veggies, balsamic and crunch potato chips. Interesting dish, but it was honestly perfection. The zucchini and cherry tomatoes were perfectly grilled and tasted so good with the pimento spread. I washed everything down with a champs flight which came with one sweet rose and two dry bubblies. I've never seen a champagne flight on a menu before. Let me just tell you, I am here for it. The bartender was friendly and service was speedy. Prices at happy hour were very reasonable. Appetizer: i got the negitoro toast again because it is literally the best thing ever. The scallop was indeed very good too. The beef tartare was just okay though. Entrees: For the entrees, we got the ribs again because again it is as good as the negitoro toast. The tagliatelle was basic in my opinion and the lamb shank was just basic as well. Totally, get the ribs though. Dessert: we got the panna cotta and the cheesecake. Both of them are amazing. I would come back for them again. The panna cotta though it is more worth it to get. The scallops are perfectly seasoned and seared. The barbecued duck risotto with each bite with scallop is to die for. - LOCAL LINGCOD I love eating fish and living in Vancouver, plenty fresh seafood. It had potato crust (loved this) with roasted winter squash, succotash, chive aioli. - GELDERMAN FARMS PORK BELLY Lemongrass chili glaze, prawn & pineapple kimchi fried rice. Wow. This is a solid special occasion dining choice! The interior is quite lovely and inviting- it makes you feel like this is a special outing. That's true for all the different spaces there. I was on an upper level that had many plants and decor that made it look like a twinkling outdoor patio. The cocktails and wine were all top notch and I was pleased to have multiple pescatarian options. The halibut was cooked perfectly and my dining companions enjoyed the duck and the pasta. The shishito peppers were nice, but simple. I thought the pricing seemed a bit high. Yes the ambiance and food were wonderful but it still felt rather high. The bartender was very nice, attentive, and friendly. The bar was fully stocked. I really enjoyed the Popin Jay beer on the happy hour menu. The chicken liver pate off the happy hour menu was not the best I've had. I would order something else next time. However, the salmon was very good. My only gripe here is that they only had 1 bathroom available which was shared for men and women.
