Another wonderful time at Tableau over New Year's Eve and their special menu. The staff made it very festive, starting us off with a complimentary glass of champagne--yes please--as well as hats, tiaras and other swag. I had the pate en croute, the cured scallops and the fish. All were delicious, though I thought the fish had a lot of greens and green sauce (I might have pulled back on the amount of both). Dessert was the Bete Noire--a super rich chocolate peanut butter confection. Delicious though I was too full to finish it! They were running discounts on their champagne by the bottle which was a nice touch. It was after all NYE... The DJ they brought in at 9:00 PM played perfect upbeat dance music. I would have loved to have had her even earlier in the evening as it was a fun atmosphere. Great food, charming service and a fun way to ring in 2026. We'll return soon. read more

We got the - crispy frog legs $20 - canard $45 -bœuf bourguignon $42 -mussels & baguette $32 -beef tenderloin $49 My fave was between the canard and bœuf bourguignon! I have been coming here regularly for years, even during its pre-Tableau days. The food here is generally good to great, the service is always warm yet professional. The ambience is anywhere from quiet to lively, depending on the day and time. They have an excellent cocktail bar and a very good selection of wines. Their happy hour used to be one of the best values in the city, but sadly, the pricing is no longer what you would call a "deal" - but that just reflects the reality of today's economy, and quite frankly, I'd much rather pay more to get the high quality of food, drinks and service you get here. This last visit, I had their frog legs (this is an easy beginner dish for anyone curious but feeling leery - really, it's like the most tender, tiny chicken wings) and steak tartar. Le burger was salty as the Aral Sea and the mushroom toast was super hard to cut (I suggest they remove the crust to fix this problem). I came for a Saturday dinner with a reservation. We were seated right away. This is a french bistro with very classic dishes. We ordered: fish dip - cured/smoked white fish with onions and capers, served with saltine crackers. The fish was good, but the saltine crackers were nothing special. I would have preferred some toast instead or something other than opening a package of saline crackers from the grocery store. 2/5 for the crackers, 4/5 for the fish. 3/5 for this dish overall. The Burger - good beef but a bit too salty. Served with cheese and bacon on a bun. No veg. I prefer a classic American style burger personally. The fries were just ok - on the dry side. 3.5/5 Roast chicken - excellent piece of chicken. Perfectly cooked, moist, crispy skin. Excellent sauce and sides. For me this was a 5/5. Duck Breast - nice cook on the duck, solid dish. 4.5/5. Side of Cabbage - 2 quarters of a head, grilled with an anchovy sauce. Actually quite nice if you like cabbage. 4/5. Also tried their seasonal cocktail, apple Spritz. It was ok. Basically sparkling apple juice with vodka. 3.5/5. Service was very friendly. The restaurant was not that spacious but comfortable enough. Their prices are high. Expect to pay fine dining prices, but this place is very casual. For what they offer I would say this place is just a bit too expensive. Street metered parking available. I love the ambiance, menu, most service aspects and the vibes of this place overall. Even on a weekday lunchtime, this place is packed to the brim so I'd definitely recommend snagging a reservation no matter what time of the day/day of the week it is. I thoroughly enjoyed the rich duck breast dish but thought the foie gras could have been more creamy and had a more elegant bread placed on the plate. The presentation of the beef bourguignon was on point and a true stunner but I believe the dish is incorrectly named. I'd deem it more as a rich short rib dish with veggies on a plate of mash. The French onion soup also was visually stunning and delicious but could have used more depth and richness to it as it was a bit on the bland side and was riding on the coattails of the cheese to be the hero to make it super delicious. Overall, service was fantastic by the super friendly hostess, accommodating manager and great bartenders; there was a bit of a mishap with one of the bartenders but was easily recovered by the rest of the staff's all star service. I really enjoyed my brunch experience at this fine establishment. The staff were very kind and went above and beyond. It helps when everyone is patient and accommodating. Our server Alex went above and beyond. There were 7 of us and she was fantastic catering to us all. Let's start with the drinks. The three of us had a pitcher of mimosas, which was nice and refreshing. The coffee was great as I had a late night and needed an abundant amount. Also, tried the espresso martini, which had a perfect amount of kick and sweetness. The food was flavourful and had a beautiful presentation. I tried half of the benny bacon jam and the burger with fries. I love how the bennies come with the Pomme Anna and recommend it. The burger was also well made and the garlic aioli was a nice touch. As for dessert, I tried the banana bread pudding and it was fantastic as there was enough for us all to try it. Thank you to Tableau for making my birthday brunch epic-- especially for a group of 7! Wow, wow, wow! What a deliciously decadent meal. The entire table agreed that it was one of our top 5 meals we've ever had together! We ordered (and DEMOLISHED): the Eiffel Tower, Brussel sprouts, Niçoise salad, Cesar salad, Mussels, Le Burger, and the 18oz Cowboy Ribeye. Everything was well-executed, excellent, and flavorful. Le burger and Brussels were a bit over-salted but nevertheless, still so so good. Out of everything, that dang Eiffel Tower & the cowboy ribeye were my personal favorites! Desserts we did one of each of the Riz Au Lait (tart & creamy), Profitéroles (pretty classic, can't go wrong), Vanilla Crème Brûlée (my personal fav, it was SO good), Gâteau de Crêpes (very nice), and the special which I can't recall the name but it was coffee ice cream with something chocolatey with peanuts on top (really good). For Le Martinis, we tried: Le Vesper, Le Bloody Tini, Le Cosmo, Le Dirty, & Le Martiner - all very scrumptious and dangerous! Try the Bloody Tini paired with some oysters! The pastries were a four out of five while the breakfast itself was a three out of five not my preferred flavor profile although I did have a slice of sourdough with the breakfast that is not in the photo and it was amazing. The experience got off to a poor start. The host who greeted us came across as very transactional and impersonal, which made for an underwhelming first impression. Unfortunately, things didn't improve when we were seated. We were placed at a tiny two-person table positioned so close to the neighboring table that privacy was virtually nonexistent. I'm not talking about typical restaurant closeness or tight quarters--I mean that it was impossible to have even a quiet conversation without the guests next to us hearing every word, and vice versa. What made this especially frustrating was that more than half of the restaurant appeared to be empty at the time. It felt unnecessary to seat guests so tightly together when there was ample space available elsewhere. The lack of personal space significantly detracted from what should have been an enjoyable dining experience. After considering the situation, we decided not to stay. We paid for our drinks, chose not to order any food, and left. Given the uncomfortable seating arrangement and the overall lack of hospitality, we did not feel encouraged to continue with the dining experience. read more

Tableau is a nice, traditional French bistro with a classic menu. We went for Sunday brunch, and the menu is fairly egg-centric, as you would expect. I had the Lyonnaise salad, which was topped with two poached eggs, lardons, and the addition of crispy duck confit. It was good, although the confit was pretty chewy. My companion had the French onion soup, which was classic in all respects. Nicely done. We started with the smoked fish dip, which was fine, but a bit odd. It was a rather low-brow presentation of a scoop on a plate accompanied by a half dozen saltine crackers and, inexplicably, an order of french fries. My favorite item was Le Vesper cocktail. Their version is prepared with Citadelle gin, one of my favorites. It was perfect. read more

Tableau is a French Canadian restaurant with a brunch menu that can rival some of the greats of Montreal. The dishes are both delicious and beautifully presented, with service that feels personal and attentive, like those you can find in michelin starred fine dining. I ordered the foie gras monte cristo, and i was surprised by how different it looks; from the elevated presentation, you can tell it's not your typical brunch. The taste is very good with each ingredient adding to the stronger flavour of the foie gras. Usually this combination would seem extremely heavy, but the way it's cooked at tableau feels just right, and leaves you wanting for more. I tried my friend's dishes and they were all very good, and tasted quite pleasantly unique. The clams and mussles however, were a bit of a miss, as they didnt have that fleshly caught taste that you could find in this region. Overall, i would recommend tableau to anyone who wants to try fresh food without breaking the bank. For the cost, this restaurant is very high value. read more

Complete five stars. This was a great "hotel" restaurant. "Hotel" is in quotes bc while it serves the incredible Loden hotel(see my review for that), this cute French bistro seemed more like a cross between the neighborhood hangout and a place where the suits meet over lunch and drinks to broker deals. While small and reservations are helpful (especially during weekday lunch time) we were able to walk in for both breakfast and lunch. The place is decor with a lot of wood and numerous black and white pictures capturing sights and people of France adorn the walls. Breakfast was quiet with a few hotel guests and some locals but lunch was boisterous with nearly all tables filled, most the local business crowds based on the fancy suit attire. Breakfast: We both ordered the avocado toast plus a side of the pommes Anna (layered potato) which was ridiculously good for potatoes lol. Lunch: Started off with a nice sour beer We had the Brussels sprouts, French onion soup, and the Coq au vin which comes with a potato purée. Everything especially the Coq au vin was delicious! Service was fantastic which was especially impressive during a very busy lunchtime. Friendly. Attentive. One miscue was the Brussels Sprouts came out several after everything else but our server sincerely apologized and removed the charge from the bill so no gripe there. Highly recommended! read more

Demi baguette: the bread was fine. The roasted yeast butter has a very toasty flavor--almost burnt taste. French onion soup: super cheesy. There was more cheese than I thought and it wasn't for me. I have supported and recommended Tableau Bar Bistro, which is attached to the Loden Hotel, for years, which makes this review particularly disappointing to write. My recent visit exposed a series of avoidable failures that ultimately undermined both the dining experience and my confidence in the restaurant's leadership. To be clear, the concerns were not about a single mistake, but about a pattern of breakdowns: #1 - I emailed the restaurant in advance to explain that I would be introducing a guest to French cuisine for the first time and wanted to ensure the evening went smoothly. No one replied. #2 - I followed up with a phone call regarding the email , told them what time that we were arriving, and was told that someone would either call me back or respond by email. Neither happened. #3 - During the visit itself, we find out that it was only happy hour and no formal meal, a gentleman who later appeared to hold a managerial role interacted with us during service issues but did not identify himself as a manager. In situations requiring service recovery, clear leadership and accountability are essential. That was missing. #4 - After the visit, I contacted the restaurant privately in good faith. The General Manager's response acknowledged that they did in fact get the email and her response was polite in tone but dismissive in substance, focusing more on defending the restaurant's positioning than on meaningfully addressing the guest experience. This is particularly concerning given the price point and reputation Tableau presents. Guests paying premium prices reasonably expect professionalism, responsiveness, and thoughtful service recovery when things go wrong. My intention had been to showcase one of Vancouver's stronger French dining rooms. Instead, the experience was marked by confusion, inconsistent service, and a lack of meaningful follow-through both before and after the visit. There are many restaurants in Vancouver that deliver both quality and genuine guest care. Based on this experience, Tableau did not meet the standard it suggests it operates at. One of my friends wanted some french food while we were in town. We went to this place as a last minute change in plan and it was last regular dinner time. We were all pleasantly surprised. The waiter welcomed us with a complimentary choice of alcoholic or non alcoholic beverage. At first we were a bit confused because some of didn't want to order alcohol but it was a free chocks. The alcoholic beverage was a sweeter plum wine and the non alcoholic was a citrus twist with sparkling soda. This was so refreshing from the heat of the summer. Since it was hot. we diced to share the Eiffel Tower which included a great combination of appetizers and we added on the Foie Gras. The oysters and crab was fresh with 2 different sauces. The stand out dishes: the roasted bone marrow tender oily flavorful and easily spreadable on the fresh baguette. The steak tartare had a fresh with a bit more chew but still tender, and the geoduck parfait was zesty, light, and crisp and wish we had more of that to share. I'm not usually a liver fan but this was one of the best foie gras I have had. This was seared and had some maple syrup drizzled over it which at first you don't think it will combine well bit with the breading beneath it and the other seasonings it was a delightful combination with not being too heavy. The service was classy and did not rush even though last call came and went. I would love to go back the next time I am in town again to try other dishes. read more

We came on a Sunday morning for brunch. We had the steak tartare, smoked Salmond eggs benedict and crepe Suzette. The steak tartare was on the smaller side but the beef was very tender and flavourful. I liked the crispy chips that came with it. It went with the tartare perfectly but I ran out of tartare before I could finish the chips. The salmon Benedict was not bad. The potatoes were well made. Very crispy and went well with the aoili. The English muffin on the bottom was hard to cut through which was the only fault with this dish. The crepe Suzette was the highlight of the meal. They light it at the table so the fire show is a show stopper. The crepe itself was very buttery and soft. You can taste the alcohol flavour but it isn't butter. Theres a salty. aftertaste from the butter and it really completes the dish along with a hint of orange rind. Our server was super friendly and nice. She was very relatable and honest about everything. Would definitely go back to try the creme puffs and other items on the menu. read more

Amazing French bistro connected to an amazing hotel. Very upscale ambience for a cozy bistro. Food was excellent. We had the bone marrow with beef tartare for starters, and I had the lamb shank for my main course, which was incredibly tender. The lady friend had the seafood bouillabaisse dish. Above all else, the service was outstanding. From the hotel front desk who escorted us to the host and the waitress that took care of us, everyone set a good example for what the gold standard in clientele service should be. It comes with soft bread that tastes like french toast after drizzling maple syrup on top. It's definitely a bite I'd come back for. We had the NY Striploin Steak Frites and Duck Breast from the mains. Both were delicious, and the fries were thick and crispy. Dessert is skippable, the chocolate cake was too sweet for my liking.
