Found this cute little spot scrolling on Yelp after dinner. We wanted to have a couple glasses of wine in a more cozy and quite setting and that's exactly what we got. Tucked away off a main street, this place is absolutely delightful for a nightcap. It's moody and snug and the wine selection is very good. Lots of yummy selections from across BC. My boyfriend and I had been wanting to try this place for a while. Every time we walked by it was always packed and we realized that our reservation was necessary. Well, what better time to go then for my boyfriend's birthday? We came with somewhat full tummies and so we only got the cauliflower to share which was unique but the real star of the show are there cocktails. I started out with their cocktail which is their name sake: grapes and soda. It was so drinkable and delicious. My boyfriend got their special which he loved so watch out for those. We tried another one that was really a beautiful drink which I think was the umeshu shiso soda wari and finally zombie cure. 3.5 oz and you do NOT taste the booze -- these drinks are DANGEROUS and delicious. I've been by here to check it out but it's always busy in the late evening. This time I made a reservation and went in at around 7 pm. We ordered the bread appie and some drinks. My companion ordered the daily soda cocktail which was pretty delicious. My drink was also good and very unique. I was tempted to try the fish and chips, but wasn't really too hungry after the bread and the night was young! Lol One of the reasons you may not be able to just stroll by and get in is because it is super tiny. It cannot seat a lot of people. I suggest making a reservation to ensure you get in. I believe I will be back to have more of their cocktail offerings. It's unique and pretty chill. read more

Japanese server was fun to talk to and attentive even though we were sitting all the way in the back. I like their selections of cocktails, got some sweet ones and ones that are more boozy. The service was terrible. The waitress did not know what "NF" on the menu was as she " did not work there very often". Our friends ordered the parpadelle which was the size of a small muffin and cost a whopping $33. The charcuterie board was very nice albeit small for $38. the biggest complaint was being told by a rude dark haired tattooed woman with glasses that our time for the table was coming due in 1/2 hour as the next sitting was coming. We were never informed of this when making the reservation. She came back 2 more times during the 1/2 limit to inform us yet again. Rude and arrogant. We will not be back. read more

Could Grapes & Soda be any more perfect? Perfect atmosphere, perfect bites, perfect drinks, perfect service. Exciting, creative cocktails and a beautiful list of natural wines. We had a charcuterie and cheese board and pork croquettes, clearly curated by some genius. The Ikarus cocktail was super refreshing, and the high tide martini was like the Pacific Northwest in a glass - campfire and seawater and peat. I could definitely see coming here to catch up with friends, on a date, or on my own and having an equally wonderful time. I'm can't wait to come back and eat and drink more stuff. read more

This is by far my favourite cocktail bar in Vancouver. Creative cocktails that's reasonably priced. The bartender is friendly and takes his crafts to new heights with the care that he puts into each drink. I love their olives as a perfect pairing to the carefully prepared drinks. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is due to the poor exhaust fan in the open kitchen. I have to launder my entire attire and go on a day that I'm prepared to wash my hair afterwards. read more

Satoshi is the best bartender in town. His daily cocktails are always refreshing and delicious. Any cocktail he makes you will be the best version you have had. The amount of care he puts into his craft will make a fan out of anyone. The servers are super cool too. The menu changes daily depending on what is in season locally. Very creative and always some veggie options. The charcuterie platter is a yummy option if you can't decide. Get the smoked olives too if you know what's good. Update for August 15/2018 Came here with the momz for the end of the Happy Hour. The mix plate was still a satiable option, except for the head cheese!! Does anyone actually eat that garbage? Disgusting. I'm a reasonable person and I will try almost anything once, but this was yuck! Even though I expressed my feelings of, well disgust and the server pretty much just took a hike after, eventually, another server showed up with some replacement meat. This has been my second visit and both times their happy wine has well, not been that exciting!! For a more specialized wine venue, they really need to step it up. This isn't just my opinion, but also that of my mother, who drinks equally as much wine as myself, but has a good 30 years experience on me. Service was also a bit slow, this time around. Overall, it was a decent second experience. Grapes and Sodas is a trendy and quaint cocktail bar with a relaxed attitude. One can easily melt the day away with one of many artisanal drinks hand crafted by talented mixologists. G&S also denotes itself as Vancouver's first natural and organic wine bar with a carefully though out with wine list. The wine list offers natural and organic wine selections that are unique and diverse, and the list is always changing! The ambiance at G&S is chill with soft lighting provided by funky and artistic light fixtures. The noise level is reasonable, the service is friendly and you feel like you might be lounging in your new neighborhood watering hole. The menu is on the smaller side, with snacks like olives and sour dough, cheese plates and Charcuterie or a combo. There are also about 5 entrees, that I am assuming they change up seasonally. HAPPY HOUR Menu has one white, red and a sparkling option for $9. There is a daily drink special which is on for $8 during happy and $10 after that. Happy is from 5-6:30 only. Cheese board or Charcuterie boards on special for $14. You can do a combo for $19. Oysters were also on special for $9. I tried the red which was a Pinot Noir, and although normally I don't like Pinot Noir, this one wasn't too bad. For FOOD, I ordered the cheese plate, which was quite nice with 4 difference small-farm cheeses. I can't remember what thbut it was a nice mix of cheeses. The plate was accompanied by very thin style olive oil crackers some different jams. I'm looking forward to trying some new wines here in the future. read more

I'm glad I stumbled upon this cute little gem of a place. Thankfully there are Yelp Bookmarks for next time I'm in Vancouver! I was thirsty after a long walk, and I ordered a Lock & Worth Sauvignon blanc Blanc/Semillon 2016 from Naramata Canada, which was acidic, fresh, and inviting. It was zippy yet super long in the mouth and begging you to take more sips. Even though I arrived at 6:40 they gave me the happy hour special, which should have ended at 6:30. Thank for that! I ordered spring greens (first of the season!) with pickled and poached rhubarb, mint, and crunchy buckwheat, and the wine went great with it. It was one of the most interesting and yummy dishes I've had in a long time, the kind of food for which sommeliers would start going crazy over potential wine pairings. The server was super friendly and knew her wines absolutely and inside-out, even when we ventured into orange-wine territory. The small place smelled amazing the whole time. Last night, my boyfriend was craving to go to a restaurant that had charcuterie board. Upon arrival, I noticed immediately the bar is near the door. There were seats along the side wall and 1 bathroom located at the back. We were immediately seated and I noticed there were a few other parties as well. You will see the menu had a wide selection of alcohol beverages (this is good for anyone who's a drinker!!), several snacks and seasonal snacks. Noticed how I didn't mention dinner entrees? That's because they don't have it listed on the menu. I asked our waiter who pointed at their seasonal dinner menu. It had 4 items, 2 of which we chose. We ordered the 3 weeks aged duck breasts, Icelandic lamb ribs and mixed board of cheese and charcuterie board. The charcuterie board was good and interesting. It makes a good appetizer before the main dinner. The slices of bread were interesting. It's not your typical flat bread but a really thin slice. There were small slices of different cheese, salami, prosciutto, a jam like sauce, a dijon-like mustard, pickles etc. My boyfriend really likes the soft cheese and I thought the poscicutto was yum. The Icelandic lamb ribs were very delicious. I never had lamb ribs and the one I had yesterday made me a fan. It was tender, flavorful and easy to come off the bone. On the side were chopped and seasoned tomatoes. Finally, the 3 weeks aged duck breasts. Okay this was even more flavorful and filling then the lamb dish. It had a slight chewy texture on the top, middle was tender and bottom had a little crisp to it. It had rice and sliced cherries on the side. After finishing this dish, we felt full. Overall I would highly recommend this restaurant. Their service is friendly and attentive. The atmosphere is nice. It's good for going for a date, friend gathering or even solo drinking! I noticed on their Facebook they're constantly changing their seasonal menu. So maybe by the time you've read this review there would be a new seasonal menu. A+ local hang out spot. don't know why i didn't know it was there for so long. short form. tight cool quarters. light menu. small cocktail menu between $10-13. totally fair prices in this day and age for a decent cocktail menu sometimes won't have enough dishes that appeal to you (as it's already quite small in itself) but everything i've had had been done well for what it was advertised as. i suggest it as a place for a light meal/snacks and drinks when hanging out with a friend in the area totally a great place. i'll be a regular going forward for sure read more

Not sure if we came on an off night or what, but we had terrible service when we came in for drinks. It was crowded when we arrived, so totally fine that it took a bit of time to get our drinks. Things started to clear out when we ordered our second drink, but it took FIFTEEN minutes for them to bring our wine us. We had been planning on having a 3rd drink, but based on the time it took to get everything, we decided it was time to go home. After asking for our check, the individuals behind the bar continued to polish the glasses and we waited another ten minutes for our bill. At that point we may have been able to walk out and I am not sure they would have even noticed. 3 stars for a good wine and cocktail selection. read more

Cute bar in an under-served area! Nice interior and chill/cozy vibe. I had a glass of wine that I really enjoyed (good recommendation from the server based on my description of what I like) and my friend had the cocktail of the day. The cocktail came in an adorable miniature glass bottle (bottled in-house earlier in the day), and came to the table with a tiny bottle opener. The whole setup was so cute - and the cocktail itself tasted good, too! The table we were at had a cell phone drawer - meant to encourage conversation - love it! A sister location to the Farmers Apprentice, serving organic food and wine. The prices reflect this, so comparing them to your average bar doesn't work. If you take it as a higher quality wine bar with knowledgeable staff it works very well. The bites were delicious. I had two: Organic beef tartare, beets, berries, cubeb pepper and watercress. Well balanced and a nice contrast of flavours. Chicken balantine, anson mills grits, hazlenuts, morels This was amazing, very rich, and really good. This place is very good. A small food menu combined with a cocktail list and a bartender who is so good and will make you anything if you ask politely. It is a treat to see such a small kitchen operation done right and one that is also experimenting with food that you often don't see in a Vancouver bistro. For example, if you don't like head cheese, you are a child. My girlfriend and I came here often when we lived in the west side of town, and we should probably make the journey from Commercial more often. It might be the best cocktail place in town. read more

I need to take my friends here... My wife and I have developed a great liking of cocktails. Hong Kong, Bangkok, Taipei, we have had some well-thought well developed ones, and some very ordinary ones. Grapes and Soda certainly belongs on my well respected cocktail bar list. The space is operated by the owner, who takes pride in running a well organized and well trained establishment. We sat at the bar and enjoyed the bartender working behind the neat little bar. The cocktail list is not large but most of the recipes were surprisingly well developed. Refreshing yuzu Campari bubbly and a hint of spruce and IPA, kaffir lime cachaça coconut mint and cilantro creamed with kefir, and finished with a black berry coffee frothed with egg white, that was one of the best three course cocktails we have had for a while. In addition to these delicious drinks, they also serves small plate that looked interesting. I was too intrigued by Farmer's Apprentice next door, so we have to try the food here next time. Nice selection of natural wine by the glass. I wish they had more variety of skin contact or orange wine. If I lived in the city, I would definitely come back often for the wine, charcuterie, and nice atmosphere. The staff were all very busy, but friendly and accommodating. The charcuterie board was delicious with a very nice liver mousse. The mustard was so good too and paired well with the rest of the salami etc. We wanted the lamb ribs, but the time I placed the order, they ran out, so I ended up getting the lamb shank. It was okay. Done well. I guess it didn't taste overwhelmingly great since it wasn't what I originally wanted to eat anyway. We also got the apple crumble which came deconstructed. Very yummy! The Apple itself was very nice and tart and well-balanced on the sweetness It would be 5 star if they didn't run out of their entire daily specials so quickly. After going here dozens of times and coming away eminently satisfied, I will have to say this is my favorite bar in the entire city. Why? Satoshi, the bartender, is a genius alcohol wizard. He makes a daily cocktail special that he now bottles! Cool, right? They're generally all fresh and a little fizzy, and range from flavors like homemade rhubarb soda to sweet celery and tequila concoctions. The bar is fully stocked with delicious brews, plus great wine: red, white, orange, pink, and sparkling! The happy hour is fantastic. They have really great drink and food specials every afternoon. While the menu is small - and not inexpensive - it's well-thought out and delicious. The only drawback is that it's so small! Definitely a wonderful hidden gem. First of all, I will say that the place is a little difficult to find. It's right next to Farmer's Apprentice, but the door to Grapes & Soda is on the side, a bit hidden like a liquor store. The space is small, but homey and you can definitely feel the down-to-earth vibe they are going for. As soon as you walk in, you can see the traditional bar as well as a bar up against the windows (like at a coffee shop) where people are enjoying their drinks and their company. Then when you turn right, there's a row of small tables. My friends and I definitely took advantage of their vast cocktail and wine selections. I had a couple of their cocktail of the day and tried for the very first time an orange wine. Both were delicious to note. We also tried their selection of cheeses and meats with their charcuterie board (which comes with very thin, almost cracker-like bread), a seasonal salad that's not on their website, and tuna tartare. All of these items were absolutely delicious. No complaints from me nor my friends. Service was friendly and helpful; very laid back and chill at this place. If you're looking for a friendly neighbourhood gem, this is the place to go. Went here on a weekday so it wasn't overly busy. Got a seat right away. The decor is very cute. We got there a few minutes before happy hour ended but the server/owner(?) was very laid back and let us order it past the time. We ordered a cheese board, oysters, rose, the octopus fried rice, lamb gyoza and salmon rillette. I'm not an expert on oysters but the sauce was tangy and refreshing. The cheese board was my favourite with the different assortment of cheese. There was this one particular cheese, goat blue cheese. I'm not a fan of blue cheese but the "blueness" of the cheese was not overwhelming. It paired very well with the jam on the board. Rose is the perfect middle man of a red and white wine. The wait staff was friendly and knowledgable, letting us slightly customize the cheese plate to fit our tastes. Also ordered the charcuterie board, which featured some of the best organic and local cured meats available with fresh bread and house-pickled veggies. The best part of this dining experience was the cocktails. Bartender Satoshi is an exceptional talent who made simple drinks like a Gin and Tonic surpass our expectations. He by used a concentrate from a local distiller and added it to soda, the used fresh garnish and a local gin, careful and exact in every step. He also created multiple one off cocktails to suit our tastes, ranging from citrus based all the way up to a berry smasher. I will certainly be back. read more

Grapes and Soda has decent booze, but some poorly executed foods. The wine list has some good items on offer - I tried a naturally fermented wine and it was delightful. Cocktails are well executed and worth a try on and off the beaten path. Staff is relatively friendly and the place is fun to sit. The food however, leaves much to be desired. Our plate of clams was O.K. Small but decent, it worked well along with the thick crusty slices of bread as a side. The bread plate was odd though - it comes with dollops of something that cannot possible be interpreted as compound butters, or in quantities that would possibly be sufficient for these heaping large slices. In summary, nothing special or even interesting. The other was a platter of cured salmon and crudite. These miniature platters may be aimed at dollhouse collectors, but are utterly unexciting for the rest of us. The thing that grated me about the platter the most is the bread - sliced so thinly and oven dried, there was no body to it, just outlines of yeast holes drawn by some expert baker. Interesting to look at, yes. Interesting to decorate your dollhouse with, absolutely! Eat? Not so much. The only item from the menu that held up nicely were the olives. These castelvetrano smoked beauties were worth ordering, eating and asking for more. read more

Happy hour from 5-6:30. The food menu differs slightly from the regular menu, and it's not hugely discounted. You save about $3 off the regular menu price for food. $7 wine. Nice, intimate setting. Probably seats about 25. Limited food menu, as they are a wine bar. Nice selection of biodynamic wines. I had a scallop ceviche which was really fresh and sweet. The roasted brussel sprouts with burrata was my favorite dish. Seared albacore tuna and okonomiyaki was just OK, nothing special. The braised beef brisket with chanterelles was a bit too subtle for me. The brisket could have been more tender. I liked the pickled cherries though. Dessert was hojicha ice cream sandwiches. Messy to eat, as the ice cream was half melted. Didn't really get the sake fizz accompaniment, it was kind of sour. read more

I haven't been here for a couple of years. My biggest peeve then was the lack of wine by the glass. For a "wine bar", all or most of the wines on the list should be offered by the glass. Hint: Coravin. I had a glass of the Coenobium Ruscum: a skin contact blend of four Italian white grapes. Bright orange in colour, nose and palate herbal and slightly medicinal. Matched well with the agnolotti and lamb ragu. I would have probably stayed for another glass of another wine but nothing caught my interest. Ruben Diaz' Las Dehesillas (another amber wine) is on the list, but sadly not on offer by the glass. read more

Great spot. Food is really good and the cocktails are unreal. The daily special has never been short of fantastic, not once. The only reason this is not 5 stars is for the same reason some other people mentioned, and that is the poor ventilation.
