To improve the rib tips I suggest that they brine the meat before cooking. Use better seasoning on the meat and cook to the until the entire piece of meat is edible. A better tasting sauce would be helpful. read more

I made the decision to travel to the westside to try this spot. What a terrible decision driving up Chicago Ave. Things got worse when I entered the restaurant and customers were talking loud and using profanity while talking to a male staffer. I waited patiently and made my way to the window where the guy at the window just looked at me like I was bothering him. Reluctantly, I ordered a few items turkey tips and links. After spending $45, I received my order which was disappointing both in quantity and quality. On top of poor quality food there was no thank you from the male cashier. This was my first time trying their food and I should have took a picture of the very small tray they gave me and they don't tell you they cut up the links. Myself and a friend had a bbq craving and this could be a go to spot. But,this joint is again. Hit or miss. No consistency with food. Consistent with no extra sauce. Came to Bro N Laws to try some of their bbq. Like most bbq joints, this place is take out only and they accept credit cards. The only thing that was bad was their customer service. The guy that took our order had an attitude and wasn't welcoming at all. Never once smiled. Can't be doing that, especially during these times. The food however was a different story. My wife ordered their tips and wings combo, and I ordered my usual tips and links. My wife's wings were very tasty. Cooked just right and were a decent size. The ribs had plenty of meat and had a nice smoky flavor. The sauce complemented these perfectly smoked ribs. I ordered a small and there was plenty of food to go around. I got worried at first when I didn't see the links. I was about to call them and say hey what the hell?! But I found them! Unlike other joints that serve they shop, they served them in slices here. These were good but would have preferred them whole. Overall they have some food tasting bbq here. Places like this aren't usually only found on the south side so it's good to have some good tasting rib tips on the west side. Just gotta check that attitude bro. read more

This was one of the first places I tried when I moved to Chicago. I was living in Logan Square at the time and this place was nearby. It was the place with no frills and little social media presence, but we gave it a try anyway and I'm so glad we did. I ordered the catfish, chicken wings, and rib tips with sauce on the side. All their barbeque is smoked low and slow and worth the wait! The tips were definitely the star of the show! I'd say if you want to try this place, go during the day and during off-peak hours. Understand that they drop your food when you ordered it (at least the fried stuff) so be prepared to wait. I promise it's worth it. Just make sure to ask them how long it'll be and watch the clock, when they start calling out orders, it can get hectic, and if you don't hear your order called/or mishear that's not fun for anyone. Each rib meal was in a paper tray and wrapped in a smaller paper bag. We've ordered ribs from numerous places and the food is usually in a styrofoam or aluminum container. The ribs and tips were pretty good and had a nice, smokey flavor. Unfortunately, the fries were inedible since they were under the meat. They were complete mush and drowning in sauce. They would have fared better tossed in their own paper bag. At least the mac & cheese was in a separate container! It was a bit on the greasy side, though. They cut the hot links in pieces, I am use to having an entire link, not one that is cut into pieces, I was a little surprised, by that, but, It was still very tasty. There are levels to this. There is of course the wonderful gourmet BBQ that has finally infitrated and taken over the market (Smoque, Q-BBQ, etc.), but these places tend to be rather pricey. There is also the bargain basement, bottom of the barrel BBQ that you can find almost anywhere: affordable but of poor quality, Then you have places like Bro-N-Laws BBQ, which in my opinion fall right in the middle, the sweet spot, if you will. Location: This location is a classic Chicago staple, the bulletproof glass spot. There is no seating to be had, simply a long, narrow, brick-lined waiting area, separated from the kitchen by a span of bulletproof glass equipped with turnstiles and slots where transactions can be made. Though this may give some people pause, the staff has always been polite and professional, and the patrons much the same. Food: -Chicken Wings: I have long advocated for Fried Chicken with BBQ sauce on it to become one of the major food groups, and Bro n Laws further highlights my point. Chicken is nicely breaded and fried fresh while you wait. If you don't call your order in, be ready to pace that waiting area for 15 minutes or so. That said, the chicken is delicious, and became one of my favorite lunch items while I was working in the area. -Rib Tips: Fatty, inconsistent, but mostly tender and delicious. These have not been smoked for 6 hours at 225 degrees, but they are still good. Some pieces will be perfect, and some will remind you of chewing on a shoe. That said, they are nice, but undersauced in my opinion. -Fries: True to the form of a bulletproof glass BBQ spot, the fries are buried under what ever entree you ordered and soaked in BBQ sauce and grease. Thus, they will not be crispy, but they are soaked in BBQ sauce, which is awesome. Concentrate on finishing these, because they will not reheat. Price: A little more expensive than what I want to pay, but what isn't. A Chicken wing/rib tip combo meal will run you about $15, but can easily be 2 lunches unless you are very hungry or are one of the Chicago Bears. All except once I had food leftover. Summary: A great hole in the wall restaurant in an area of the city that needs more of them. Great value and flavor to be had here. Food is a little inconsistent at times, and the lack of sauce offends me, but not enough to keep me away. A hidden gem that I will return to. read more

The barbecue sauce and mild sauce are both good. The meat was seasoned well. The service was attentive and faster than expected. The good: Large portion sizes-can get two or three meals out of a small combo easily. Definitely felt that I got my monies worth. I also loved that they are open late. The meh: it took about thirty minutes to get my order-there was only one other customer waiting. But, I justified the long wait in the hope that quality takes time. The bad: My turkey link was burned (extremely hard to chew). My turkey ribs were also very dry. Even though the sauce and seasoning were good, nothing could overcome the extreme dryness overall. Overall, I can't really recommend this place based on my first experience.
